- >You're Anon
- >You're out biking
- >To be more specific, you're on the outskirts of town, headed nowhere in particular
- >It's an late summer evening, and the wind's blowing pretty cold
- >You enjoy that sort of thing, though
- >Also, you've got The Offspring on your iPod
- >The sun's setting, and it's turning dark quickly
- >Even so, you're not quite ready to head home yet
- >You take a left and head into a sparsely populated area with some residences, and a factory nearby, as well as a river
- >You spot someone sitting on a concrete dock by the river
- >Wait, why'd you take note of the fact that's it concrete, of all things?
- >Nevermind
- >The second thing that catches your attention is long, pink hair
- >The third thing, following immediately after, is that it looks to be a girl
- >She looks...downbeat, judging from her posture
- >You decide it couldn't hurt to talk to her
- >You turn off your iPod and come to a stop a little ways from her, then secure your bike to a nearby lamppost, and sit down next to her
- >Okay, now what the fuck do you say?
- >You sit and stew in the silence for a while
- >You notice that her hair's hanging over her left eye
- >Also, she's wearing just denim shorts and a pink top, pretty high striped stockings and pink sneakers
- >Even as it's getting this chilly out
- >You hear something barely audible
- >You look at her and blink
- >Did she just say something?
- "Um...could you please repeat that?"
- >"...nevermind"
- >Her voice is low enough that you can just hear it
- >It's...you can't really find a word for it
- >It's just nice to listen to
- >A little while more of silence
- "My name's Anon. What's yours?"
- >"...Pinkamena."
- >You're surprised it went so easy to get her name, but hey, gift horses, man
- "It's nice to meet you, pinkamena. Though, may I ask why you're all the way out here in the chilly weather?"
- >Another silence, shorter this time
- >"Because...I like taking walks."
- "Ah, I get that. Still, this late?"
- >"I...needed to clear my head."
- "Mhm. I get that "
- >You decide to not press that right now
- "So...do you go to school in town?"
- >She nods
- "I haven't seen you around. Still, though, big city, big school. I go to Obama high."
- >"Christopher Poole high school"
- "Hey, that rhymes!"
- >You hear her give a faint giggle
- >"I never thought of that"
- >You notice that her hair seems to poof up and become curly and springy
- >You can finally make out her eyes
- >They're a beautiful blue
- >Her mouth's slightly curved in a small smile
- "So, hey, how's 'ol CP high? I've heard it's pretty chill"
- >She nods enthusiastically, almost looking like she's headbanging
- >"Mhmm! We've got super nice teachers, and there's like no meanies there and it's just really really really nice!"
- >Her bright cheer's infectious
- >You feel yourself smiling along with her
- "That's great! I take it you have quite a few friends, then? I mean, with your attit-"
- >You cut off when you notice her smile freezing in place, then slowly melting away
- >Her hair loses its newfound spring
- >Shitshitshit
- "Um...Pinkie?"
- >You figured you could try using a nickname for her
- >Ya know, to try and get a bit closer to her
- >She goes deathly quiet for a bit
- >Then pulls her knees up under her and sobs quietly into them
- "I-I'm sorry! I-I...I didn't mean to hurt you!"
- >You wait until she seems to have gotten it all out
- >"It's...you couldn't know"
- >She looks at you with one puffy, red-ish blue eye, then looks away
- >"It's...just that..."
- >You wait patiently, letting her take this at her own pace
- >"I do have friends. Sort of."
- >Her voice is low and shaky
- >"But...lately, it feels like they've been...abandoning me"
- >She chokes out the last part
- >You put together 2^2
- >"Pinkie" Was probably what her friends called her, or at least used to
- >No wonder that hit a sore spot
- >You gently put your hand on hers
- >Here's to hoping she doesn't think you're a fucking creeper
- >She pauses for a long second, then holds your hand
- >"I haven't...I haven't made a big deal of it, because they seem to have other priorities, and they seem happy with that. So..what does one oversensitive girl's feelings matter so long as her friends are happy?"
- >You bite your lip to keep from saying anything that'd insult such bad friends
- >After all, she still seems to care a great deal about them
- >But you could try to lead her on the right track?
- "Have you tried talking to them about it?
- >"No. I wouldn't want to worry and or bother them."
- >She sighs and adds, in a whisper
- >"Or face the possibility of them ignoring me even more, or coming out and just saying they don't wanna be my friends anymore!"
- >Hm. Well, you can't force her to confront them
- "Well...don't you have other friends?"
- >"Sort of. But none I know on more than a shallow level. And...I'm not sure anyone really knows the real me. Maybe not even me."
- "Well...you've opened up quite a bit to me, and that's gone pretty well, I feel."
- >She gives you a tiny smile
- >"I guess. Of course, it's always pretty easy to open up to complete strangers you may never see again. If they don't care, that's understandable, and maybe even a plus."
- >You nod
- "Yeah. Although now I feel bad that I don't have any big secrets or problems to confess. Ya know, in the interest of equivalent exchange."
- >She smiles a bit and shakes her head
- >"It's fine."
- >You notice she's shivering
- >Right, no wonder, you've been sitting her for at least an hour
- >You zip down your hoodie, take it off and drape it over her shoulders
- >You feel your cheek flush, and you think you catch a blush on her as well
- "You..looked cold"
- >Your voice is a bit shaky. Insecure
- >She nods a bit jerkily
- >"Th-thanks.."
- >She puts it on properly and zips it up
- >And now you notice how bitterly cold it's out
- >Bah. You are man
- "It's getting late. I should probably get home, unless I wanna fall asleep in class tomorrow. Well, not that I wouldn't anyway, but you know what I mean"
- >Oh god, you're babbling
- >"Mhm."
- "Though, I really enjoyed talking to you. Maybe we could meet up tomorrow, after school?"
- >"I'd..I'd like that. Besides, you'll want this back."
- >She tugs on an oversized hoodie sleeve to make her point
- "Heh, yeah. So you better show up"
- >You keep your tone light and joking
- "How's the Puddi ice cream bar sound?"
- >She gives a tiny giggle
- >"It sounds delicious is what it sounds like"
- >You laugh, then get up on your feet
- "It'll be alright"
- >And with that, you head back to your bike and unlock it
- >You bike back home without looking back
- >Gotta look cool, right?
