  1. >You're Anon
  2. >You're out biking
  3. >To be more specific, you're on the outskirts of town, headed nowhere in particular
  4. >It's an late summer evening, and the wind's blowing pretty cold
  5. >You enjoy that sort of thing, though
  6. >Also, you've got The Offspring on your iPod
  7. >The sun's setting, and it's turning dark quickly
  8. >Even so, you're not quite ready to head home yet
  9. >You take a left and head into a sparsely populated area with some residences, and a factory nearby, as well as a river
  10. >You spot someone sitting on a concrete dock by the river
  11. >Wait, why'd you take note of the fact that's it concrete, of all things?
  12. >Nevermind
  13. >The second thing that catches your attention is long, pink hair
  14. >The third thing, following immediately after, is that it looks to be a girl
  15. >She looks...downbeat, judging from her posture
  16. >You decide it couldn't hurt to talk to her
  17. >You turn off your iPod and come to a stop a little ways from her, then secure your bike to a nearby lamppost, and sit down next to her
  18. >Okay, now what the fuck do you say?
  19. >You sit and stew in the silence for a while
  20. >You notice that her hair's hanging over her left eye
  21. >Also, she's wearing just denim shorts and a pink top, pretty high striped stockings and pink sneakers
  22. >Even as it's getting this chilly out
  23. >You hear something barely audible
  24. >You look at her and blink
  25. >Did she just say something?
  26. "Um...could you please repeat that?"
  27. >"...nevermind"
  28. >Her voice is low enough that you can just hear it
  29. >It's...you can't really find a word for it
  30. >It's just nice to listen to
  31. >A little while more of silence
  32. "My name's Anon. What's yours?"
  33. >"...Pinkamena."
  34. >You're surprised it went so easy to get her name, but hey, gift horses, man
  35. "It's nice to meet you, pinkamena. Though, may I ask why you're all the way out here in the chilly weather?"
  36. >Another silence, shorter this time
  37. >"Because...I like taking walks."
  38. "Ah, I get that. Still, this late?"
  39. >"I...needed to clear my head."
  40. "Mhm. I get that "
  41. >You decide to not press that right now
  42. "So...do you go to school in town?"
  43. >She nods
  44. "I haven't seen you around. Still, though, big city, big school. I go to Obama high."
  45. >"Christopher Poole high school"
  46. "Hey, that rhymes!"
  47. >You hear her give a faint giggle
  48. >"I never thought of that"
  49. >You notice that her hair seems to poof up and become curly and springy
  50. >You can finally make out her eyes
  51. >They're a beautiful blue
  52. >Her mouth's slightly curved in a small smile
  53. "So, hey, how's 'ol CP high? I've heard it's pretty chill"
  54. >She nods enthusiastically, almost looking like she's headbanging
  55. >"Mhmm! We've got super nice teachers, and there's like no meanies there and it's just really really really nice!"
  56. >Her bright cheer's infectious
  57. >You feel yourself smiling along with her
  58. "That's great! I take it you have quite a few friends, then? I mean, with your attit-"
  59. >You cut off when you notice her smile freezing in place, then slowly melting away
  60. >Her hair loses its newfound spring
  61. >Shitshitshit
  62. "Um...Pinkie?"
  63. >You figured you could try using a nickname for her
  64. >Ya know, to try and get a bit closer to her
  65. >She goes deathly quiet for a bit
  66. >Then pulls her knees up under her and sobs quietly into them
  67. "I-I'm sorry! I-I...I didn't mean to hurt you!"
  68. >You wait until she seems to have gotten it all out
  69. >"It's...you couldn't know"
  70. >She looks at you with one puffy, red-ish blue eye, then looks away
  71. >"It's...just that..."
  72. >You wait patiently, letting her take this at her own pace
  73. >"I do have friends. Sort of."
  74. >Her voice is low and shaky
  75. >"But...lately, it feels like they've been...abandoning me"
  76. >She chokes out the last part
  77. >You put together 2^2
  78. >"Pinkie" Was probably what her friends called her, or at least used to
  79. >No wonder that hit a sore spot
  80. >You gently put your hand on hers
  81. >Here's to hoping she doesn't think you're a fucking creeper
  82. >She pauses for a long second, then holds your hand
  83. >"I haven't...I haven't made a big deal of it, because they seem to have other priorities, and they seem happy with that. So..what does one oversensitive girl's feelings matter so long as her friends are happy?"
  84. >You bite your lip to keep from saying anything that'd insult such bad friends
  85. >After all, she still seems to care a great deal about them
  86. >But you could try to lead her on the right track?
  87. "Have you tried talking to them about it?
  88. >"No. I wouldn't want to worry and or bother them."
  89. >She sighs and adds, in a whisper
  90. >"Or face the possibility of them ignoring me even more, or coming out and just saying they don't wanna be my friends anymore!"
  91. >Hm. Well, you can't force her to confront them
  92. "Well...don't you have other friends?"
  93. >"Sort of. But none I know on more than a shallow level. And...I'm not sure anyone really knows the real me. Maybe not even me."
  94. "Well...you've opened up quite a bit to me, and that's gone pretty well, I feel."
  95. >She gives you a tiny smile
  96. >"I guess. Of course, it's always pretty easy to open up to complete strangers you may never see again. If they don't care, that's understandable, and maybe even a plus."
  97. >You nod
  98. "Yeah. Although now I feel bad that I don't have any big secrets or problems to confess. Ya know, in the interest of equivalent exchange."
  99. >She smiles a bit and shakes her head
  100. >"It's fine."
  101. >You notice she's shivering
  102. >Right, no wonder, you've been sitting her for at least an hour
  103. >You zip down your hoodie, take it off and drape it over her shoulders
  104. >You feel your cheek flush, and you think you catch a blush on her as well
  105. "You..looked cold"
  106. >Your voice is a bit shaky. Insecure
  107. >She nods a bit jerkily
  108. >"Th-thanks.."
  109. >She puts it on properly and zips it up
  110. >And now you notice how bitterly cold it's out
  111. >Bah. You are man
  112. "It's getting late. I should probably get home, unless I wanna fall asleep in class tomorrow. Well, not that I wouldn't anyway, but you know what I mean"
  113. >Oh god, you're babbling
  114. >"Mhm."
  115. "Though, I really enjoyed talking to you. Maybe we could meet up tomorrow, after school?"
  116. >"I'd..I'd like that. Besides, you'll want this back."
  117. >She tugs on an oversized hoodie sleeve to make her point
  118. "Heh, yeah. So you better show up"
  119. >You keep your tone light and joking
  120. "How's the Puddi ice cream bar sound?"
  121. >She gives a tiny giggle
  122. >"It sounds delicious is what it sounds like"
  123. >You laugh, then get up on your feet
  124. "It'll be alright"
  125. >And with that, you head back to your bike and unlock it
  126. >You bike back home without looking back
  127. >Gotta look cool, right?
