  1. Location: [REDACTED]
  2. Date: [REDACTED]
  3. Agent on premise: Agent [REDACTED]
  4.
  5. The room was sterile. That was the most apt word you could think of the unnaturally white observation room watching over the vat in the containment room below you. You conservatively sipped your cup of coffee, made with the blandest and most inconspicuous coffee grounds known to man.
  6.
  7. If this was a promotion, it sure as hell didn’t feel like it. Here you were stuck watching SCP-682, one of the most notorious “items” the Foundation is responsible for. Mortality rates among her wardens were unnervingly high, and command saw fit to make you one of those unfortunate watchers of hers.
  8.
  9. You let out a small sigh before sitting down to look at the camera screen. Around you were multiple monitors of cameras in SCP-682’s acid vat, constantly watching her form degenerate and regenerate. You’ve seen visceral things before in your line of work for the Foundation, and of course you’ve seen the files and documentation about her characteristics, but watching it happen in real time only 30 meters away from you was still disturbing.
  10.
  11. Hours pass by as you continue to keep a watchful eye on the monitor. It’ll be 10 more minutes before Agent [REDACTED] comes to take the next shift. Nothing has happened in your 8 hour shift until her form begins to move inside the tank.
  12.
  13. “Wha-what is she doing?” you whisper out. You prepare to hit the alarm, just in case this was another breakout attempt, luckily on your first day. Originally floating face down in the tank, she slowly began to rotate her body to slowly face up towards the ceiling. You could see the bits of her deteriorated form, her face missing a large piece of her left cheek, both eyelids, and parts of her lips. Her torso had multiple large lacerations, fizzing at the edges where there was an equilibrium of acid breakdown and regeneration.
  14.
  15. You stared, unsure what to classify this, until she was completely supine in the acid vat. Waiting for her to make any sudden movements, she merely opened her mouth, releasing bubbles that floated to the top of the tank, popping loudly as they reached the surface. She continued to do so while you merely watched in bewilderment, until a hand touched your shoulder and made you jump with a start.
  16.
  17. “Whoa, easy Agent [REDACTED], it’s just shift change, come on,” said your shift replacement. You let out a breath of relief. “You seemed riled up, what happened?”
  18.
  19. “Oh, uh, she was um… blowing bubbles,” you stutter out, realizing how stupid that sounds.
  20.
  21. “Oh, that, yea she does that. Was that not in the files?”
  22.
  23. “No, I don’t believe so.”
  24.
  25. “Ah well don’t worry, she’s still incapable of doing anything right now with the acid and all. Let her blow her stupid bubbles.” At the end of your companion’s sentence, her bubbles grew in intensity.
  26.
  27. You nod in agreement and let him take the chair. You slowly shake it off and step out of the room, heading to the chow hall and back to your quarters, petting SCP-999 along the way.
