  1. >you've been in Equestria for a long time
  2. >time
  3. >it's a strange word, in a strange world
  4. >time doesn't go by in Equestria like it does back on Earth
  5. >magic is a hell of a drug
  6. >for you, time was fluid
  7. >effects preceded cause, things often looped or changed
  8. >it was confusing
  9. >you would have a conversation with a pony, only to realize that it never happened in this time
  10. >or that the pony had been dead for years, and you had been talking to him or her in a temporal distortion
  11. >you felt out of place
  12. >out of time
  13. >so you sat in the library, and became its statue
  14. >you were to the library as books were to shelves
  15. >sitting in your rocking chair, away from the chaos that was Equestrian life
  16. >away from ponies that didn't understand you
  17. >Twilight dealt with you well enough
  18. >she remembered you from her stories
  19. >stories you wrote tomorrow, and that she read as a child
  20. >it felt like she was the only pony you could sit in silence with, and enjoy the memory of the conversation you were going to have the next day
  21. >she always had something for you
  22. >new books
  23. >new stories
  24. >she was your eyes in the outside world
  25. >Twilight would canter towards your corner, sit on the rug at your feet, look up into your eyes, and tell you stories
  26. >tales of friendship, of adventure, of the everyday life
  27. >tales of her
  28. >you sat, listening
  29. >you never wanted it to end
  30. >you never wanted to nod off, in your chair, only to wake up to the empty library
  31. >a library with no more life
  32. >no more stories
  33. >you never wanted your heart to break, as you remember the wrinkles around her empty eyes
  34. >how her mane turned gray, how her coat grew dull
  35. >how cold she was
  36. >you didn't want to see her, a fresh young filly, saying hello
  37. >telling you how it's her first day in Ponyville
  38. >you never wanted to say how you've been here, all along
  39. >because she asked, on her first day, how long you'd been
  40. "A thousand years, Twilight,"
  41. >her bright, twinkling eyes went wide
  42. "And a thousand more,"
  43.
  44. The end began.
