Northwestern Memorial Hospital Says Undocumented Patients Can Be Added to Transplant List

• There was a meeting with a person of the Northwestern administration. She will pass on our letter and message to the Medical Director

• She says Northwestern’s policy has never been to ask for citizenship or financial ability. She said, "they don’t have to be citizens to be on the list”

• The list of patients who have been in this fight may apply to begin the process to be on the list at the Kovler Organ Transplant Center

• These patients will have to prove that they have lived in Chicago for over a year and that it will be possible for them to pay for their medicine for life

• Northwestern’s administration will keep track and make sure these patients receive an appointment and attention. They also commit to continue communicating with the strikers daily starting today.

• They also commit to be part of the transplant medical team and to communicate with the doctor Ensell of Rush Hospital • Patients and their families will not stop the hunger strike until all their demands are met and they will return to Northwestern to protest if they do not keep their promises.

Huelguistas de hambre de La Villita continuaran las protestas hasta que esto esté por escrito

Los huelguistas de hambre han conversado con el Hospital Northwestern y han decidido regresar la huelga de hambre a la Misión de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en La Villita.

Después de más de 24 horas de estar acampando afuera del hospital y poniéndole presión a la administración finalmente el hospital cedió a tener una conversación con ellos.

• Hubo una reunión con una persona de la administración de Northwestern. Ella le pasara nuestra carta y mensaje al Director Medico

• Northwestern dice que su póliza nunca ha sido pedir la ciudadanía o habilidad financiera. Ella dijo: “no necesitan ser ciudadanos para estar en la lista”

• La lista de los pacientes que han estado luchando podrán aplicar para empezar el proceso para estar en la lista en el Centro de Transplantes de Órganos Kovler

• Estos pacientes tendrán que comprobar que han vivido en Chicago por más de un año y que les será posible pagar el medicamento de por vida

• La administración de Northwestern le dara seguimiento para que estos pacientes sean atendidos. También se comprometen a seguir la comunicación con los huelguistas diariamente comenzando el día de hoy.

• También se comprometen a ser parte del equipo médico de transplantes y a comunicarse con el doctor Ensell del Hospital Rush
