So I was standing on a hillside in Sirte behind a technical and these two hardened Thewar kept motioning for me and the others standing next to me to sit down. Just as I process this the guy to my left gets shot through the head with the bullet exiting just below his right ear. He stiffened up and hit the ground. His friends immediately clustered and I screamed at them to move while dumping my individual operator kit (augmented) out onto the concrete.

Big thick streamers of blood streaked with streamers of disrupted subcutaneous fat and brain (? in hindsight, I'm not so sure) were pumping out of the exit wound. His friends kept trying to close his eyes, but he'd just open them again. Finally, after repeating this eye close / eyes open thing twice he got this really sad look on his face. Then he died. It took about thirty seconds and I'd only managed to empty my tourniquet, scissors, gauze pouch... hadn't gotten to the celox.

The reason why he got the sad look is, I suspect, he was still alive when his friends tried to shut his eyes and it only dawned on him what they were doing after the second time. They had given up on him. He died while my hand was stuck in my pouch yanking out... a chest seal kit. The CELOX was in the third pouch. Draw your own judgments. It happened. I don't know if I could have saved him. My point is... don't close your buddy's eyes and watch your fucking mouth on youtube.
