  8. (07:05:08) Cheeseness: Syd said she changed that. I'm guessing it didn't apply. I'll try to sort that out
  9. (07:05:10) yama: Permafry_42, showing TBoUT here.
  10. (07:05:12) Sven_Q45: Yes. :)

  38. (07:10:37) flesk: It's been a while since I played it, but I remember this game as being a lot more polished than The Raven.
  39. (07:11:11) GameClubFan_802895 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  40. (07:11:18) Sven_Q45: Ivo sounds good too in the englisch version. :)
  41. (07:11:20) Cheeseness: It does seem that way
  42. (07:11:24) Permafry_42: i like the color choices in this game more than the raven
  43. (07:11:49) Cheeseness: As in general visual design?
  44. (07:12:21) Permafry_42: yeah; it has a more varied pallete than raven imo
  45. (07:13:05) Permafry_42: but the voice acting seems to have been recorded in pieces, since some of the longer dialog seems to be recorded sentence by sentence, loosing some of the flow of the dialog
  46. (07:13:28) Sven_Q45: not in the original
  47. (07:13:31) Sven_Q45: . :D
  48. (07:13:38) GameClubFan_274791 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  49. (07:14:03) Fhqwhgod: Nobody ever played the original
  50. (07:14:03) Cheeseness: I haven't really gotten that impression
  51. (07:14:05) Fhqwhgod: XD
  52. (07:14:18) Cheeseness: Sven_Q45: The German voices, you mean?
  53. (07:14:23) Sven_Q45: Fhqwhgod I did.
  54. (07:14:30) Sven_Q45: Yes Cheeseness.
  55. (07:14:41) Permafry_42: gotta love the indiana reference
  56. (07:14:41) Cheeseness: Indy reference >_<
  57. (07:15:13) GameClubFan_526736 [6ca28010@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  58. (07:15:26) Sven_Q45: Every Indy reference is good. ;)
  59. (07:16:11) Cheeseness: Where did she put that???
  60. (07:16:24) Permafry_42: the cloud effect here is nice
  61. (07:16:36) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness What do you guess? ;)
  62. (07:16:41) GameClubFan_383635 [4e5673b4@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.

  69. (07:19:13) Permafry_42: you can see the age in the cg unfortunately
  70. (07:19:28) Sven_Q45: Fhqwhgod If she likes that. Then ok.
  71. (07:19:30) Cheeseness: It's not that old is it?
  72. (07:19:30) yama: When was this game made? :o
  73. (07:19:33) Sven_Q45: :D
  74. (07:19:39) Dinkytiny left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  75. (07:19:49) Cheeseness: 2009
  76. (07:19:55) Cheeseness: Apparently
  77. (07:20:06) yama: Heh... So it's five years old now. :o
  78. (07:20:08) Sven_Q45: why?
  79. (07:20:12) KeithSwanger [6b0a0b27@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  80. (07:20:21) Permafry_42: even so, i like the raven's cg more
  81. (07:20:31) Sven_Q45: cg?
  82. (07:20:32) Permafry_42: especially it's opening
  83. (07:20:41) Permafry_42: computer graphics
  84. (07:20:49) Cheeseness: Animations in this seem a lot more solid than The Raven to me
  85. (07:21:03) Fhqwhgod: well yeah. I remember playing the German demo years ago.
  86. (07:21:15) KeithSwanger: what movie was that song used in...?
  87. (07:21:19) Sven_Q45: TBOUT was their first project. And Raven is from 2013. ;)
  88. (07:21:19) Fhqwhgod: and then never buying it
  89. (07:21:48) Sven_Q45: Fhqwhgod Mistake! ;)
  90. (07:21:48) Permafry_42: in engine i agree, but in the cinematics i like the raven more. Still i know its much older than the rave
  91. (07:21:52) Permafry_42: *raven
  92. (07:22:20) Sven_Q45: Again this great background music.
  93. (07:22:20) Fhqwhgod: I#d take a rave over a raven
  94. (07:22:40) Permafry_42: yeah their music always is great
  95. (07:22:50) KeithSwanger left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  96. (07:22:51) Fhqwhgod: did they just rip off hall of the mountain king?
  97. (07:22:58) Cheeseness: That piece is In The Hall of the Mountain King if people didn't know
  98. (07:23:20) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness Thanks. Good music track!
  99. (07:23:40) Permafry_42: i like how this book is written backwards, but the professor's book was written western sty;e
  100. (07:23:44) Permafry_42: *style
  101. (07:23:54) Sven_Q45: BOUT 2 wi have a few orchestral soundtracks. :)
  102. (07:24:06) Fhqwhgod: it's a Manga. I knew it!
  103. (07:24:41) Permafry_42: unless he was reading it backwards
  104. (07:24:55) disharmonic [~disharmon@hide-FFADD6CE.dsl.dyn.forthnet.gr] entered the room.
  105. (07:25:01) Sven_Q45: Oh it´s norwegian. Didn´t know.
  106. (07:25:14) disharmonic: Hey
  107. (07:25:17) Permafry_42: i love the fireplace
  108. (07:25:26) Permafry_42: hi disharmonic!
  109. (07:25:31) Sven_Q45: hi
  110. (07:25:35) flesk: Yes, it's Grieg, Sven.
  111. (07:25:36) Cheeseness: Hey disharmonic
  112. (07:26:10) flesk: It was written for Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen.
  113. (07:26:46) Sven_Q45: I have a poster off the town from the critter cronices. :)
  114. (07:26:56) Sven_Q45: By night!
  115. (07:28:13) Permafry_42: the fake accent is a bit jaring at times
  116. (07:28:37) Cheeseness: Feels better than The Raven to me in that department :D
  117. (07:28:38) Fhqwhgod: I'd play it in German I guess. This accent ruins it
  118. (07:28:51) yama: I can see this game taking a while to finish. The pacing is quite slow. ^^:
  119. (07:29:04) Fhqwhgod left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  120. (07:29:12) Cheeseness: That's pretty common for adventure games though
  121. (07:29:29) fIesk [4fc8cf38@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  122. (07:29:32) Cheeseness: When we did Monkey 1, we were messing around for a while before we got onto actually doing stuff :D
  123. (07:29:33) Sven_Q45: Fhqwhgod Do you understand it?
  124. (07:29:51) fIesk: Fhqwhgod is German
  125. (07:30:07) Sven_Q45: Didn´t know.
  126. (07:30:21) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness What did you do in MI 1?
  127. (07:30:26) Sven_Q45: :D
  128. (07:30:38) Permafry_42: yeah i changed my mind. the animation for that robot was fantastic
  129. (07:30:46) Cheeseness: Bummed around, talked to/looked at everything
  130. (07:31:14) Permafry_42: most of my broken age playthrough was just talking to people as well
  131. (07:31:16) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness That´s a thing you must do in Edna and Harvey.
  132. (07:31:18) yama: That's how I like to play adventure games myself so it wasn't a complaint. :)
  133. (07:31:55) disharmonic: Both the German and English voice-overs seem quite good to me
  134. (07:32:19) Sven_Q45: disharmonic Yeah.
  135. (07:32:35) fIesk is now known as Fhqwhgod
  136. (07:33:20) Permafry_42: i'll admit that i kinda agree with the elf that the story has a tinge of clicheness to it so far, besides the humor
  137. (07:33:37) Cheeseness: For sure
  138. (07:33:45) yama: Permafry_42, as I understand it that's intentional.
  139. (07:33:47) Cheeseness: It feels like maybe that's the point in some respects
  140. (07:34:21) Fhqwhgod: Oh. Hobbits
  141. (07:35:32) Permafry_42: i love all the little mechanisms in the game
  142. (07:36:17) Cheeseness: :)
  143. (07:36:59) Cheeseness: The set design is pretty nice
  144. (07:37:09) yama: Mechanisms... Reminds me of games by Benoît Sokal.
  145. (07:38:00) GameClubFan_684634 [53360b28@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  146. (07:38:02) Cheeseness: heh, the chair
  147. (07:38:19) yama: Heh heh.
  148. (07:38:29) Fhqwhgod: I hate horses
  149. (07:38:33) Fhqwhgod: cows are better
  150. (07:38:58) Permafry_42: i always imagine that the majority of adventure protagonists are talking to themselves during these sections
  151. (07:39:07) Sven_Q45: i don´t get the chair joke. Cuz of the speing a horse is a horse?
  152. (07:39:34) Fhqwhgod: Permafry_42: they are all clearly insane. Insane and kleptomanic.
  153. (07:39:54) Permafry_42: still not as insane as rpg protagonists
  154. (07:39:58) Cheeseness: Not to mention sociopathic in most cases
  155. (07:40:22) Cheeseness: Gremlins reference
  156. (07:40:26) Sven_Q45: ego-shooter protagonists are trigger-happy I think. :D
  157. (07:41:29) Permafry_42: i love how the twitch plays pokemon community portray's red as when he's being controlled by twitch chat
  158. (07:42:16) Cheeseness: Star Wars reference
  159. (07:42:42) Fhqwhgod: I noticed.
  160. (07:42:50) Fhqwhgod: it's shameful.
  161. (07:43:15) Permafry_42: the ring is definetely a reference to LOTR
  162. (07:44:32) liorean: There's loads of references in BouT
  163. (07:44:38) Cheeseness: Definitely
  164. (07:45:15) liorean: YOu guys still playing?
  165. (07:45:27) Fhqwhgod: nope
  166. (07:45:44) Fhqwhgod: wait... yes
  167. (07:45:45) Permafry_42: still need to play it myself =C
  168. (07:46:06) liorean: I've been playing it during the week
  169. (07:46:16) Permafry_42: but first i have to play the wolf amoung us after procrastinating for so long
  170. (07:46:19) yama: I've been debating getting it or not but I might end up buying it after all.
  171. (07:46:20) liorean: But thought the table top gaming session would be longer
  172. (07:46:52) liorean: Love those spring cleaning explosions...
  173. (07:47:42) GameClubFan_684634 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  174. (07:49:24) Glog78 [58481f39@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  175. (07:49:36) Fhqwhgod: you kids and your dnd sessions
  176. (07:49:54) Sven_Q45: dnd?
  177. (07:50:02) liorean: How do you know the Gremlin isn't lying, Wilbur?
  178. (07:50:14) liorean: Dragons and Demons I guess
  179. (07:50:20) liorean: OR Dungeons and Dragons?
  180. (07:50:34) Sven_Q45: The second one I´d say.
  181. (07:50:41) Fhqwhgod: I agree
  182. (07:52:00) liorean: Ah, yes, there is a large Swedish pen and paper RPG (Older than your DnD I believe) that is called "Drakar och demoner", and the first one was my mind automatically translating that one.
  183. (07:52:04) Glog78 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  184. (07:52:08) Cheeseness: I really The detail in the backgrounds is really nice
  185. (07:52:19) Glog78 [~Oknown@hide-7853C1B.pools.arcor-ip.net] entered the room.
  186. (07:52:54) liorean: I love how there's lots of interaction areas for extra content, but they turn inactive when they are not relevant.
  187. (07:53:25) Sven_Q45: Yes I like that, too.
  188. (07:53:42) liorean: And how some things aren't interactive before you actually have some reason to interact with them. Prevents the find-thesolution-before-the-puzzle thing that happens in many adventure games.
  189. (07:53:44) Cheeseness: Aww, well at least he cares
  190. (07:54:18) flesk: I mostly liked it, but I sometimes missed pieces of dialog that I was unable to replay.
  191. (07:54:28) flesk: People talking to me, stuff like that.
  192. (07:55:40) GameClubFan_926230 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  193. (07:57:13) liorean: Yeah, I missed not having some form of reminder of things that have been said, but I like how things aren't cluttering the interface and most of all, not confusing you by being interactible when no longer relevant.
  194. (07:57:42) GameClubFan_526736 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  195. (07:59:17) Cheeseness: That slime's death sounded a bit like a TIE Fighter flyby
  196. (07:59:20) liorean: Is that slime thing some reference I missed? I was kind of expecting him to make a GhostBusters reference but there didn't seem to be one.
  197. (08:01:23) flesk: Did he just put the pot through his head?
  198. (08:01:28) Cheeseness: It did look like it
  199. (08:01:31) flesk: Right before the close up.
  200. (08:02:01) Fhqwhgod: shoody animations
  201. (08:02:03) liorean: Wasn't payin attention enough to see exactly what happened
  202. (08:02:04) Cheeseness: The eyebrow action is awesome
  203. (08:02:14) flesk: Haha, yeah.
  204. (08:03:24) liorean: There are plenty of interactions in this game that seem a bit off, especially character interactions with items involved.. And things like - "Where exactly did Ivo hide *that*?" moments.
  205. (08:03:26) Sven_Q45: What was that he saying? :D
  206. (08:04:03) Sven_Q45: Ivo´s hiding it in her breasts of course.
  207. (08:04:44) liorean: Yes, and the animation tells that tale, too. But hiding a large cannon ball for instance?
  208. (08:05:05) liorean: Or how Nate hides molten gold within his vest...
  209. (08:05:08) Sven_Q45: And where does adventure chars put big ladders?
  210. (08:05:09) Sven_Q45: :D
  211. (08:05:54) flesk: Simon put ladders in his hat if I remember correctly.
  212. (08:06:04) Sven_Q45: It´s a common adventure anomaly.
  213. (08:06:08) liorean: Compare to the lampshading of the inventory items hiding in Monkey Island
  214. (08:06:10) flesk: He knows some basic magic though.
  215. (08:06:13) Sven_Q45: Yes
  216. (08:06:28) liorean: Guybrush hid everything down his pants...
  217. (08:07:03) OzzieMonkey [3cf0f13c@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  218. (08:07:14) liorean: But in this game, it just seems like they simply didn't want to make item-retrieval animations for all the character-item combinations
  219. (08:07:18) Fhqwhgod: even human sized q-tips
  220. (08:07:18) Permafry_42: I thought it was like Doraemon where everything is hidden in hammerspace
  221. (08:07:28) Sven_Q45: Adventure chars seems a wee bit insane. :P
  222. (08:07:32) OzzieMonkey: I love this game, can't wait for the second one
  223. (08:07:43) flesk: Probably got quite a few burns on his thighs before you figured out the grog puzzle.
  224. (08:07:44) liorean: The Critter Chronicles?
  225. (08:08:07) flesk: The Kickstarter game.
  226. (08:08:09) OzzieMonkey: liorean: The REAL second one that recently got funded by kickstarter
  227. (08:08:17) flesk: The Critter Chronicles is a prequel.
  228. (08:08:26) Sven_Q45: Yes!
  229. (08:08:54) Sven_Q45: It was an add-on but ater made to a fu game!
  230. (08:08:54) Sven_Q45: ll
  231. (08:09:32) flesk: Hi OzzieMonkey. I remember you from the old TTG forums.
  232. (08:10:34) liorean: I love the way that rat returns to the story later
  233. (08:10:59) OzzieMonkey: flesk: Still there too, but not as frequently :p
  234. (08:12:02) silverspork [~Adium@hide-16C592EE.hsd1.pa.comcast.net] entered the room.
  235. (08:12:04) Cheeseness: I feel like King Art didn't really communicate to people well that Critter Chronicles was a spin-off. I've had so many people complain to me about it not being a true sequel >_<
  236. (08:12:48) liorean: I had no idea it wasn't one. I didn't know about this game until I started playing it.
  237. (08:12:55) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness We KA Games gone bankrupt after BOUT!
  238. (08:13:15) OzzieMonkey: The second one already looks amazing
  239. (08:13:24) Cheeseness: Sven_Q45: They did?
  240. (08:13:49) Cheeseness: liorean: Right, that's what I'm referring to
  241. (08:13:53) Fhqwhgod left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  242. (08:14:13) Sven_Q45: They used the recovery time to make TCC a whoe game not ony a spin-off.
  243. (08:14:40) liorean: Cheeseness: I meant BouT, not Critter Chronicles
  244. (08:14:46) flesk: OzzieMonkey: Yeah, most of the old community left now or at least aren't there as much.
  245. (08:14:47) Cheeseness: Sven_Q45: It's still a spin-off
  246. (08:15:04) Cheeseness: (that's no indication of scope/length, just that it's outside the main story)
  247. (08:15:26) Sven_Q45: Cheesenes But an entire game. Not ony a game that you can pay in 5 minutes. ;)
  248. (08:15:30) Permafry_42: oh yeah for those of you here who haven't seen it yet, we're right now talking in the planning thread about what game we want to do next after bout
  249. (08:15:34) Sven_Q45: If you get my drift. ;)
  250. (08:15:48) OzzieMonkey: flesk: it's almost like a mass strike :p
  251. (08:15:49) Cheeseness: Right. I wasn't saying it was short ^_^
  252. (08:16:19) liorean: Do you have a list of suggested games?
  253. (08:16:27) silverspork left the room.
  254. (08:16:29) flesk: Critter Chronicles was longer than I'd expected before I started playing it.
  255. (08:16:53) Sven_Q45: Cuz the make a "game" ;) Not onl
  256. (08:16:55) Permafry_42: so if after this stream you guys could pop by the planning thread and let us know what games you suggest we should plan to stream, we'd greatly appreciate it
  257. (08:16:58) Sven_Q45: y an addon.
  258. (08:17:06) Cheeseness: Nobody said it was an addon :D
  259. (08:17:15) liorean: That voice is really bad
  260. (08:17:17) flesk: I don't know how it was marketed, but I first heard about it when I read a review of it.
  261. (08:17:33) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness But it was planed as one.
  262. (08:17:48) Permafry_42: liorean we have some ideas, but we're right now trying to gauge what games people are most interested is seeing
  263. (08:17:51) Cheeseness: People interested in helping out with streaming would be super appreciated as well
  264. (08:17:58) Cheeseness: Sven_Q45: Oh, it was?
  265. (08:17:59) OzzieMonkey: um, where's the planning thread
  266. (08:18:02) flesk: I think it would be nice to do a story focused game that isn't an adventure game per se, but I'm not sure what I'd like to see yet.
  267. (08:18:06) Sven_Q45: yes.
  268. (08:18:18) Cheeseness: OzzieMonkey: We're using this thread http://www.doublefine.com/forums/viewthread/11511/
  269. (08:18:37) flesk: Maybe some kind of metroidvania that isn't too big.
  270. (08:18:41) Sven_Q45: We do KOTOR? :)
  271. (08:19:06) liorean: I love KotOR!
  272. (08:19:12) flesk: Or DeathSpank?
  273. (08:19:21) Cheeseness: Has to be something that can be done in under 8 hours and that is interesting enough to maintain conversation for that length of time
  274. (08:19:32) liorean: The KotOR story is very dependent on your speccing though
  275. (08:19:36) Cheeseness: DeathSpank's grindy kind of gameplay doesn't feel like it'd work with out format
  276. (08:19:45) Sven_Q45: Is hyperlove even a word? :D
  277. (08:19:50) flesk: OzzieMonkey: Yeah, the change to the new community was the last drop for a lot of people.
  278. (08:20:02) Sven_Q45: Then I hyperlove KOTOR.
  279. (08:20:45) flesk: Cheeseness: Yeah, you're right.
  280. (08:21:08) Cheeseness: I drifted away before the TTG forums were replaced. The shifts in community that accompanied the influx of newcomers associated with some of their more popular titles felt unhealthy enough for me to want to stay away
  281. (08:21:17) Sven_Q45: Don´t know about the TTG forums. But the repay games forum is "deader". :D
  282. (08:21:39) liorean: Ḧmm. Stanley Parable work for a format like this?
  283. (08:21:48) liorean: You'd have to restart it a lot though
  284. (08:22:04) Cheeseness: It could. I'd like for us to hold off for the Linux version to become available though
  285. (08:22:25) Cheeseness: (with Portal 2 now being on Linux and the SDK update not far away, that should happen soonish)
  286. (08:22:47) Permafry_42: I'd love to stream portal 2 at some point
  287. (08:22:51) Cheeseness: It's possible we're getting off topic though :D
  288. (08:22:53) liorean: Does the demo work for Linux? THat would be a great start to it, it's a worthwhile experience in itself
  289. (08:22:54) flesk: Yeah, I don't want to watch a stream of the Stanley Parable before having had a chance to play it myself either.
  290. (08:22:57) Sven_Q45: Now comes a great closeup! :D
  291. (08:23:17) Permafry_42: i'd have to practice my speedruning though since some parts have a lot of really easy ways to make mistakes
  292. (08:23:34) flesk: VVVVVV could possibly work. It's pretty short.
  293. (08:23:43) OzzieMonkey left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  294. (08:24:07) Cheeseness: I don't know if there's enough to discuss/critique for the length of the game though
  295. (08:24:18) liorean: I didn't even realise that VVVVVV had a story. I just know iut's platforming
  296. (08:24:19) Cheeseness: Anyway, this is stuff for after the session/the planning thread
  297. (08:24:34) Cheeseness: Let's focus on BoUT for now :)
  298. (08:24:51) liorean: Aye aye, Captain!
  299. (08:24:54) Sven_Q45: Or on addons. :P
  300. (08:25:24) Sven_Q45: Yessiree Cheeseness. :D
  301. (08:25:28) liorean: Those languages, were they all real fantasy languages, or just Quenya?
  302. (08:25:30) Cheeseness: o7
  303. (08:25:41) Cheeseness: "real fantasy languages"
  304. (08:26:05) Permafry_42: So is there any negative feelings on the reliance of fantasy tropes with sexist undertones in bout?
  305. (08:26:14) liorean: "Real fantasy languages" as in real constructed languages for fantasy story works
  306. (08:26:41) Cheeseness: Permafry_42: I'm finding it a bit disappointing
  307. (08:26:51) liorean: I had some disappointment by how blatantly fanservicy some Ivo parts were.
  308. (08:26:52) Cheeseness: in that regard
  309. (08:27:08) Cheeseness: Relying on fantasy tropes is fine though
  310. (08:27:22) Permafry_42: the character model looks suspiciously like lara croft imo
  311. (08:28:02) Sven_Q45: It´s not a bad thing Ivo ooks that way. :P
  312. (08:28:18) Sven_Q45: I think I´m quite now. hihi
  313. (08:28:54) liorean: The way for instance that they position the camera for when Ivo talks to Tschiep when on the temple island in chapter IV (?)
  314. (08:28:56) Permafry_42: i don't think it's "bad", but i do feel there are better ways they could have handled that particular trope
  315. (08:28:58) Cheeseness: I don't really see Lara Croft in there
  316. (08:29:09) liorean: It's basically a cleavage shot
  317. (08:29:44) liorean: I don't see too much of Lara Croft in there. No more than any other female character in any other game, I think.
  318. (08:29:59) Sven_Q45: This closeup is better, no?
  319. (08:30:03) Cheeseness: No.
  320. (08:30:03) Sven_Q45: ;)
  321. (08:30:23) Cheeseness: Is this a Discworld reference?
  322. (08:30:34) Sven_Q45: Cheeseness ;)
  323. (08:31:02) Permafry_42: idk; she kinda reminds me of this https://www.google.com/search?q=lara+croft&espv=210&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=04NAU6mKJMLx2QWn64GwBg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=GJi0tgbufsLVAM%253A%3BfHp9AnMnl9DkjM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fimg2.wikia.nocookie.net%252F__cb20120107071748%252Flaracroft%252Fimages%252Fe%252Fe4%252FLara-croft2.jpg%3Bhttp%253A
  324. (08:31:08) OzzieMonkey [3cf0f13c@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  325. (08:31:34) Permafry_42: sorry; here's a shorter link: http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120107071748/laracroft/images/e/e4/Lara-croft2.jpg
  326. (08:32:06) Sven_Q45: But Ivo is better!
  327. (08:32:30) Sven_Q45: Sorry Indy over Croft. imho. :)
  328. (08:32:57) liorean: There are similarities, yes. But except for the waist, and hair in a pony tail, I don't think they are that close.
  329. (08:33:41) liorean: I love the use of apes/monkeys in this game, too
  330. (08:33:58) Permafry_42: I'm probably just looking too deep into it
  331. (08:34:07) Cheeseness: Bad Golf community catch up is meant to happen now if anybody's also intending to attend that
  332. (08:34:48) liorean: Any build top try out recently?
  333. (08:34:56) Sven_Q45: Permafry_42 haha. It can be understanded wrong. :D
  334. (08:35:01) Permafry_42: Still, I can't help but feel that there's going to be a large audience of adventure fans that would have a hard time playing this game due to Ivo's design alone
  335. (08:36:00) Permafry_42: That's not to say there aren't worse games that take it way too far, but...
  336. (08:36:26) liorean: Yes, Ivo is blatantly sexualised and it's use is more taking away from the game than it adds to it if you ask me. I'd rather see her in a Robin Hood type than in a bikini set like this
  337. (08:36:49) liorean: s/it's/its/
  338. (08:37:24) OzzieMonkey: liorean: her character model has changed in the sequel, it's a lot better imo
  339. (08:38:42) Sven_Q45: My critter figurine is watching this stream as wel
  340. (08:38:42) Sven_Q45: l
  341. (08:38:44) Sven_Q45: .
  342. (08:38:46) Sven_Q45: :)
  343. (08:39:00) liorean: You are, Ivo!
  344. lietu Lightkey linc liorean
  345. (08:39:08) Cheeseness: I totally agree liorean
  346. (08:39:19) Sven_Q45: I´m Ivo?
  347. (08:39:52) liorean: I was answering to her saying "I hope I'm not supposed to do the gardening around here!" or something like that
  348. (08:40:37) flesk: The puzzles in these games are pretty good.
  349. (08:40:58) Sven_Q45: Better than in BA.
  350. (08:41:04) liorean: I really liked the puzzle design in this. Much more than I did in Broken Age, actually.
  351. (08:41:16) liorean: Sven: Exactly!
  352. (08:41:21) flesk: I didn't like the painting puzzle in CC though. Way too unforgiving.
  353. (08:41:51) Sven_Q45: That was one kind of a puzze I dislike!
  354. (08:41:59) Sven_Q45: d
  355. (08:42:07) OzzieMonkey: I should really finish Critter Chronicles before the sequel comes out
  356. (08:42:17) flesk: I don't mind a few minigames if they're done well.
  357. (08:42:23) liorean: Haven't played Critter Chronicles yet. Haven't even finished Chapter V of BouT yet, even. I got stuck playing FTL yesterday...
  358. (08:42:32) flesk: The Deponia games overdo them in my opinion though.
  359. (08:42:57) flesk: How many chapters are there in BoUT? I don't remember.
  360. (08:43:04) Sven_Q45: You can skip them in Deponia. What I like.
  361. (08:43:05) liorean: At least 5
  362. (08:43:08) flesk: CC has 5 I think.
  363. (08:43:23) Permafry_42: What I wonder is why they made that character design choice in the first place. To be honest, it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of world she's in, which feels more wondrous and child-like while she looks essentially like something out of a "dark reimagining" of the fantasy genre that has recently become common ever since LOTRs
  364. (08:43:31) OzzieMonkey: I really enjoyed the Deponia trilogy, though they do go a bit crazy with puzzles and I understand the complaints that the protagonist is too vein, but I don't mind him
  365. (08:43:47) flesk: Sven_Q45: True, but I won't feel like I've beaten the game if I do. ;)
  366. (08:43:57) liorean: I think the character design was just a Fantasy Elf Stereotype
  367. (08:44:05) liorean: And a hope that sex sells, maybe.
  368. (08:44:15) Cheeseness: flesk: It's 4 chapters plus a prologue IIRC
  369. (08:44:21) liorean: Or at least, that fanservice sells
  370. (08:45:13) liorean: Dark reimagining? Just modern reimagining, doesn't have to be dark ones...
  371. (08:45:29) Cheeseness: Misogynistic reimagining :b
  372. (08:45:47) flesk: Cheeseness: Ok, thanks. So, you're probably close to the end then, liorean.
  373. (08:45:49) Permafry_42: i think fanservice only works when it's so ridiculously present that it becomes a part of the way that world works, like the anime kill la kill or the game cathrine
  374. (08:46:47) Permafry_42: both have usually unacceptable amounts of fan service, but both use them to make the world it tells about what it is
  375. (08:47:33) liorean: I am in the Ivo and Critter section, just after Nate has gotten the armour, shield, helmet and sword he needs to rescue Wilbur. I guess there is a MNate and Wilbur section to come either in later parts of Chapter V or in a Chapter VI, if there is one.
  376. (08:47:39) Permafry_42: No More Heroes and Grand Theft Auto also seem to do this
  377. (08:48:26) Permafry_42: It can be subverted too; just look at the anime ouran host club and how it does the same thing only with men
  378. (08:48:54) liorean: WoW is a good example of the Fantasy Female Fanservice thing
  379. (08:49:22) Permafry_42: WoW is a weird middle ground imo
  380. (08:49:45) liorean: And pretty much all MMORPGs, to be honest, but especially the throwaway free to play ones, such as everything by Aeria games
  381. (08:49:57) Permafry_42: the misogyny present is just as much in the way the portray men as how they portray women
  382. (08:50:45) Cheeseness: I wouldn't agree with that
  383. (08:51:07) Permafry_42: Why's that cheese?
  384. (08:51:14) liorean: You mean in that they sexualise/fanservice both sexes in it, it's not a really good example of misogyny? Sure, but it's more blatant for females than for males even then.
  385. (08:51:15) Cheeseness: Because I don't think it's true
  386. (08:51:51) OzzieMonkey: There are SO MANY adventure game in-jokes in this chapter, it's great
  387. (08:51:54) Permafry_42: no; i think that its a great example of a different type of misogyny
  388. (08:52:18) Cheeseness: Was that a reference there? :b
  389. (08:52:18) liorean: Yes, -brush -wood, mighty pirate!
  390. (08:52:32) liorean: Several ones
  391. (08:52:37) OzzieMonkey: no Cheeseness, nothing to see here :p
  392. (08:53:19) Permafry_42: it shows how the world it portrays can be built to be sexist so that men are the stereotypical power fantasy and women are the stereotypical sex symbol fantasy
  393. (08:53:59) Sven_Q45: mh
  394. (08:54:42) liorean: Blizzard have a trend of doing that male strength-female sexiness thing. Just look at how Kerrigan has built-in high heels, for instance!
  395. (08:54:57) Cheeseness: You can have gendered stereotypes that aren't misogynistic, you know (also, the word specifically refers to attitudes towards women)
  396. (08:55:26) Syd: And that's it for this week
  397. (08:55:30) Permafry_42: oh i completely agree
  398. (08:55:40) Permafry_42: thanks syd!
  399. (08:55:41) Syd: Let me know when the outro ends
  400. (08:55:55) Cheeseness: Woo! Thanks heaps Syd
  401. (08:55:57) Cheeseness: That's done
  402. (08:55:57) liorean: Outro ended now
  403. (08:56:04) OzzieMonkey: Thanks for the stream Syd! Lookinh forward to the rest
