It's clearly a Fairy Type, and you don't think it can exactly shapeshift, so what you'r seeing was likely a change in its form due to a Type Shifting. if you had to guess it might have aquired the Bug Type to shrink it down, or the Dark Type to help it conceal itself, or even possibly Flying Type to gift it wings.
