- Welcome one and all! I'm /u/TheMusicArchivist, ready to narrate to you this afternoon. Please take care
- that all limbs and appendages are within the ride as we set off, and no talking in the back.
- First off - the world as it stands. Europe is becoming dominated by Sweden and Prussia; the Xiongnu are
- expansive as ever in the steppes of central Asia (that's also a cool piece by Alexander Borodin if you're
- [interested](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W2aQf8Lb5M)); Bactria's expansion in the Persian and Indus
- regions was aided by their forward settle many moons ago; and the Mormon Deserets in Utah are possibly
- the okayest in North America, where there aren't many strong contenders yet. Australia and South America
- seem to be ticking over nicely, but we'll see more in a bit.
- 2:
- The Confederate States are being attacked by Dragonflies! The UU of the Wabanaki are pretending to be
- fireflies, making light work (haha) of Memphis just days after storming New Orleans. A strong seaboard is
- essential for late game power and projection as we've seen in previous Battle Royales - until XComs come,
- boats are the only way to successfully cross the oceans a la Buccs.
- Port-Royal, however, is under threat from the Confederates, and the Acadians could lose their grasp on
- Florida, and the uranium that everyone wants later on. At this stage though, having the south locked down
- would help the blue-and-burgundys immensely, allowing them to focus their spear army on the north and
- west. Whether they have enough troops to combat two nations at once is the biggest question they need to
- answer this part.
- 3:
- It's flips-o'clock in the Kilwan region, as Rhodesia captures Zanzibar, but there's a lot of triremes to
- take it right back. The Kilwa's capital has dropped to four-fifths or so, and truth be told, I expect it
- to fall as well. This war could really cement Rhodesia as the civ to beat this royale.
- 4:
- Especially if Rhodesia keeps up the settling. Here we see two embarked settlers, probably departed from
- Fort Victoria, heading up to the West African coast to exert even more dominance on the world. I hope
- they're guarded by more than triremes though...
- Lurking has indicated that the central American Zapotecs has reached the Classical Era. I'm not sure if
- this is late or early, but either way at this stage probably not wholly important.
- 5:
- Poor Korea. Doing so well in the CBR, they turtle very well, avoiding early war, teching up, then
- dominating at the end. However they're suffering here from Xiongnu aggression. The Xiongnu have been
- scary from the off, with large amounts of their UU parading the steppes, and now there's twenty inbound.
- I envisage Suwon falling soon, and Kaesong falling too unless Korea really play the bottleneck card
- right. Are Yakutia in the war? With their advanced bowmen (Composite no less) they could really assist
- here in Korea's downfall.
- 6:
- At the other end of the kingdom, the Japanese are quickly moving in. Busan could fall next turn, although
- Japan needs to learn that embarked ranged units are only target practise and of no use at all. Could
- Seoul fall? Not sure yet, I'm not trusting Japan quite yet. Sapporo hasn't been settled yet by the looks
- of it, so the victor will have room to expand after the war too.
- 7:
- Benin, with their decapitation emblem, are flanking the Nubians, but slaves can't fight wars good at all
- and they need to be careful not to overreach here! Kerma puts the Benin right on the border with other,
- strong civs, who will be eyeing any land to expand into with glee.
- In the same shot we also see the Vandals and the southern part of their army. They've already conquered
- south, taking a few Malian cities, and their warring may not be over with any luck.
- On the right, and I hope we can go to our reporter in the field soon, is the announcement that New
- Zealand have declared war on the Purea, who are just north. This war probably won't go far, but I hope it
- does. I like New Zealand.
- 8:
- Suwon, burning to the ground. Would have been better for the Xiongnu to keep it, but perhaps like the
- Huns they have the silly idea that burning useful stuff is good. Perhaps their large empire is already
- suffering from happiness issues, although one would think the deity bonuses counteract that.
- 9:
- After Murri enhance their religion, we get taken to the religion stats screen. What we look for in AI
- matches is a strong religion, one that helps with things the AI otherwise struggle with: faith, food,
- army strength. We see that that Oriental Orthodoxy has the defense bonus that I always pick. +20% combat
- strength near friendly cities really helps, and combined with a wonder like the Great Wall, or Ethiopia's
- UA, will definitely help any turtling civ on defense. The Kulin pantheon would be expected to reap high
- faith, desert being pretty common across the map. It's clear the unpronounceable religion of Noaidevuohta
- is bargaining on going tall - more food is something that makes the AI very strong.
- 10:
- In a domination game, earning faith for battles won within four tiles of your cities is a strong perk: on
- a dense map, most battles will be near cities. The science-based pantheons can really help on massive
- maps too.
- 11:
- Okay, there's lots of religions... the civ hoping there's city states is obviously a bit clueless.
- 12:
- I love the Religious Community pantheon: +15% production in a city with 15 followers. That's a big
- production boost if you make it happen!
- 13:
- The world religions at a glance. No idea on the number of followers, but it's clear that the Sami and the
- Chukchi are doing well.
- 14:
- Back to the action! Port-Royal is down. This will help the Confederate States, as they can now
- concentrate on just two fronts. Their defense at Memphis is going okay - the dragonfly things (a trireme
- replacement with added capturing skills) are damaging the city but also taking a lot of damage
- themselves.
- 15:
- A glorious overview of the Rus', wjp have just denounced their neighbour to the north, Prussia. The
- Rus'ian army isn't the strongest, but their cities are. If they fight their wars cannily, they could make
- serious ground against their neighbours. Turkey for one looks quite weak too, and with good terrain for
- good cities. The Perm are a little more sparse with their army but with more cities and lots of room to
- expand. Massegetae can be seen fleeing to the north.
- 16:
- New Zealand bring their army reserves to the frontline to battle with the reserves of the Pacific Fleet.
- Tahiti had a slow start, and the lack of land ampers the production available to both sides. In this kind
- of territory, you'd best be bringing naval units, and NZ have only two. Warriors don't count. My
- prediction is that Palmerston is damaged and then both sides run out of troops.
- 17:
- Korea catches a lucky break, peacing out with Japan and saving the city of Busan in the process. The
- Korean army is only archers and scattered melee units at this point though and they need to work hard on
- beefing up now. Japan needs to take Sapporo then prepare for another Korean war - trans-Ocean war is not
- fully viable yet and the Koreans must be removed before their science bonuses go crazy.
- 18:
- Korea's lucky break ends: Yakutia declare war and move their southern army cohorts down to Kaeson and
- Daegu. With the Xiongnu still at war, this will negatively impact Korea on a big scale, drastically
- limiting them.
- It looks like the Song are attmepting to take Daegu before anyone else does, but the narrow opening only
- lets one trireme in at a time, and Galleasses are still a few parts away.
- 19:
- Sleepy South America isn't too sleepy. Damaged units little the Bolivian and Tupi borders. No cities are
- damaged though. The terrain is tricky until later in the game, when forests are chopped down and units
- are quicker moving through the forests.
- There's peace between the Song and Korea, but this doesn't affect much.
- 20:
- Barak will be wishing he'd built some more troops in his barracks - the Kimberley declare war! A large
- force from Kalumburu threatens Coolaroo, and it should fall very quick. A smaller expeditionary force
- from Mowanjum and Rubibi could disrupt the central holdings of the Kulin. Uluru is up for grabs! More
- importantly perhaps, the Kulin capital Barere Barere Balug looks takeable. The Murri could find
- themselves drawn in out of curiousity and walk away with the grand prize.
- 21:
- The Parthenon grants speedier ranged unit building and a small food bonus. It's a fine wonder for the AI
- who love their ranged units, as evidenced by this slide, which is full of Rus'ian archers.
- Serbia needs to upgrade those scouts into something that can actually defend.
- 22:
- Well, the Song are at peace again, and Lurking has given us a great view of the region. In the north the
- conflict is still happening, with Yakutia moving its troops downwards. The Song empire looks good for
- now, with large cities, well spread-out and with high production tiles all around. No easy targets for
- the Song though. Taiwan look strong, althoguh projecting that forces upwards wouldn't yield much more
- than Yangzhou. We also see the very edge of the Songhai empire. They'll be suffering from the lack of
- city states but tend to be very strong contenders in the matches I play. I wonder if their squished
- starting location will impact them much. Japan's mainland holdings will be the sight of future conflict,
- probably from Taiwan but maybe the Song too.
- 23:
- Okay, New Zealand does have an army! But will they move it? They're trying to take down a Tahitian UU
- naval vessel that has no military benefit but can create fishing boats, which is kinda useful when not at
- war. Anyway, the NZ trireme force could end up with a city under their belts, which I'd enjoy.
- 24:
- The Pontiac and their impossible names seem to have taken a city from the Cree and their impossible
- names. The Cree have enough troops to take it back, but even the deity AI can't play that efficiently and
- I reckon Kawawachikamach will stay Red. The Cree have an unusual ability, that they form six different
- types of city, with each type giving a unique promotion to all troops created there. Types of city
- include the Woodland Cree, who give rough-terrain bonuses. I haven't ever got all six, sadly, but maybe
- the AI will - if only we could tell. They certainly won't with four cities though.
- 25:
- Goethe (who penned the libretto to many great works of music, like Mahler's 8th [Symphony]
- (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NSYEOLwVfU8) and Liszt's Faust [Symphony]
- (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZUQ7yZTFco)) has decided that Nepal and their densely-populated capital
- are by far the most well-read. Prussia, Tahiti, Xiongnu, and okay everyone too, are close behind.
- 26:
- A full six techs (or 35%ish) behind are people like the Philippines and the Kongo, neither of whom we've
- seen much of. They probably haven't even invented music yet.
- 27:
- The Chukchi have the Colossus, giving them too much gold and therefore not really contributing much. The
- tundra is a touch environment for anyone but the deity AI, so expect this quiet civ to keep doing its own
- thang and suddenly surprising the Chuk out of all of us. The ice floes to the east of Lorno could give a
- nifty defense against the Alaskan Russians, so this civ may be quite hard to take.
- 28:
- Vandals declare war on Mal again. Tombouctu will fall for sure, but then it's a really long front between
- the two civs and a reasonably well-matched army on each side. The Malians have no enemy up their backside
- though, so the Vandals could well be attacked at exactly the wrong moment by the Spanish.
- The front is desolate, mostly desert, and one that favours the chariot archer of Mali. If either army
- strays into the southern forests though, we could see more hand-to-hand fighting.
- 29:
- A war nobody knew was happening has finished. Oman is small, cramped, and weak. Their only hope is to
- remain insignificant and worthless until they can start sniping cities off dying empires.
- Jerusalem looks to be marching onto Herat, an Ilkhanate city.
- 30:
- Indonesia secure their southern flank through diplomacy, making friends with the Kimberley. However, more
- than diplomacy is needed. More cities are needed, as are troops. This is our first good look at the
- Philippines this part, and they look fine. A bit too island-y and not enough continental-y, and their
- troop numbers are also low. Kinda suits the region, doesn't it?
- 31:
- Kimberley taking action fast, and Coolaroo is already in the red. Soon it will be in the red. Of
- Kimberley. Koo Wee Rup (great name) is next I htink, but a more difficult target, with no sea access and
- another point of defense too.
- The declaration of friends is useless - it isn't a defensive pact and the Philippines couldn't project
- that far anyway.
- 32:
- Siam shape up for battle, and we get a look at Chola too. Again, okay. Lots of Cholan triremes, which
- helps in this part of the world, but they need spearmen to counteract the Mughals above them.
- 33:
- Memphis falls to the Wabanaki! But it will fall right back. The spearmen of the Confederate States are
- safe in the knowledge that they can carry their nation to victory.
- 34:
- Co-co-co-combo! We have another capture. This one *might* flip but the likelihood is that the Kulin
- spearman will either be killed or run back home to his mom. The Kimberley are a-coming. They also squeeze
- on Mooroolbark, but let their guard down at Mowanjum, but the Kulin won't complete taking it I don't
- think.
- 35:
- Denouncements of Sibir rack up, with neighbours and not-neighbours both saying that Sibir smell like
- their grandmas and not in a good way.
- Palmerston is low on HP but seemingly safe for now. When will the NZ reinforcements come, if ever? This
- attritional war is only bad for both nations.
- 36:
- The Kilwa fleet is dissipating and Zanzibar is secure. Surprising that Kilwa Kiswani hasn't been attacked
- yet, but I hope that'll come soon. It looks like Sopala is settled on Madagascar, and that could
- infuriate the Zulus to do something for once.
- 37:
- Sibir counterdenounce the Xiongnu but why? Kaesong hasn't fallen, and Suwon was only a small village
- wiped off the map.
- 38:
- Perm still attacking Atil.
- Maragha is looking precarious, with Turkish and Bactrian soldiers getting close, but the Ilkhanate could
- still hold on with some luck. The mountainous territory helps a huge deal.
- 39:
- A nice view of the worlds' largest city, Kathmandu, which has food literally growing on Mount Everest as
- a source of population points. Their ranged army is strong, but without Melee, useless on the offense.
- The Mughals also look strong, but with smaller-sized cities (at least compared to Nepal) but a stronger,
- more melee-based army.
- 40:
- Bora Bora under siege from the New Zealanders, although Palmerston looks lost. If NZ isn't careful,
- they'll lose one city and not gain anything in return. However, look at that arrow-head of triremes
- heading to Faaa... that could cause a lot of damage.
- 41:
- A closer view of Atil and the Permian army. Once the warrior and spearmen are killed by the defenders,
- Perm won't have anything at all in shot to take the city. I think Atil won't fall just yet.
- 42:
- Kaesong into the red thanks to the chariot archers of Xiongnu and Yakutia. It will flip soon, but I think
- Korea will flip it back quickly. It's clear to see that Xiongnu aren't bringing their A-team to war,
- instead building up for a different assault. Maybe even an assault course to test their war-readiness.
- Would be fun to try one of them on horseback.
- 43:
- ...and here it is. Could fall, might not. Korea still have a good defense in Daegu, with its wall and
- composite archers, but the armies incoming are large.
- More Xiongnu hate. The nations of this world really know what to say after a conquest.
- 44:
- The Mali army rushes at Jenne and Kumbi Saleh whilst Tombouctu falls to the Vandals. This could backfire
- on the Vandals - gain one city but lose two? Not a good deal. Sort out the defense!
- On the sidebar we see that the Philippines are relevant again, as they declare on Indonesia, who are
- probably manning the pepper spray guns on the city walls as we speak.
- 45:
- Neither side manages anything worthwhile, although it does look like Palmerston has flipped: loss of
- pop., and exactly half health. Bora Bora hasn't flipped though, although the lack of free seawater has
- led to a decline in pop. there as well. Faaa unfortunately is covered up but lots of NZ ships in that
- vicinity.
- 46:
- Here we go, a view of another battlefield. Indonesia have increased their troopage a small amount and I
- think the armies look similar in size.
- We can just about see Kunmunya be damaged by a Kulin trireme, although the city will survive with ease.
- Now, will the Kimberley peace with Kulin and protect their friends in the north? That could change the
- scene of this battleground.
- Taiwanese Hsinchu is perched perilously by the Siamese empire. I'm worried for their sake.
- 47:
- Peace again in SA. La Paz was the only casualty and it only makes the green team (Tupi) stronger than the
- red team for the time being. Will Bolivia ever into sea? Will Bolivia ever into jungle and high food
- tiles? Find out next time!
- The wider shot shows us the predicament - Peru have cornered the north of the continent and Araucania &
- Patagonia have slid up the Pacific coast in a highly-defensive mountain citadel of Caleufu.
- 48:
- Atil slides closer to death, but at least the Perm melee units have been dealt with. The nearest one is
- at least three turns away.
- 49:
- Siam and Korea are now best buddies, but I don't think Siam really wants to be in that relationship. Too
- many archers, and not enough troops to combat the Taiwanese fleet could mean that cities like Lampang
- could fall quickly.
- Nepal's cute southern outpost of Biratnagar is again well-enclosed by mountains, but I'm sure Nepal have
- their eyes on the Mughal coastal town of Shahjahanabad, which would score 32 on a Scrabble Board, and
- would definitely reach the Triple Word Score, making it a 100-ish scoring word at the end. It only has 9
- HP though, indicating no walls, and a scant army of a catapult and a few archers.
- 50:
- Korea and Serbia, two countries that have never even spared a thought for each other in real life, have
- just decided they don't like each other in the LCBR. Fair enough, 'denouncements' is the theme for today.
- The Serbian army is dense but Novi Sad-ly really backwards, with warriors instead of spearmen, and and
- archers instead of composite archers. Sardinia-Piedmont could easily take Nis, as could Prussia. At least
- Serbia stronker than Turkey though.
- Spot the Vandal settler perched on Sicily - will the Med become theirs?
- 51:
- The Dene and Alaskan Russia also dislike each other. This part of the world is quiet again now. Some
- armies, some empty zones, some big cities, some small cities. Pretty generic view to be honest.
- However, Kawawachikamach has been taken by the Cree again, with no melee troops from the Pontiac to flip
- it again. What a small ice city will do for the Cree is something to be found out in the future, but it
- shows at least the Cree are making progress if no-one else will.
- The aptly-named Bunkerville is a tough nut to crack and will be secure against the Dene and Cree. It's
- definitely in the Canadian part of NA though, somewhere few Utahians ever go...
- 52:
- Vandals 1 - 2 Mali. Check out the reaction of the Rhodesians, who are shouting 'What, what??' in Que Que.
- The Vandals must be careful now, that they regain at least one of their conquests. Tombouctu was not
- worth this war.
- It's time for Benin to be scared of Rhodesia too. They're positioning for a pincer movement I'm sure.
- 53:
- The Rus declare on Turkey, and their UA instantly takes the cities right down to a low red! That is a
- great benefit for sure, but there aren't any melee units poised to take anything, indicating a lack of
- planning. Lyubech should fall though. Quick, other nations. Declare now! Even Serbia could take Bursa.
- Notice Atil is down to the black. No melee in sight as per usual. They'll live another day.
- 54:
- Faaa down to yellow, Bora Bora too. NZ's forces are waning now though, and there won't be much more
- conquesting this part.
- But see that settler to the west of Bora Bora... is he sneaking through to further encircle the
- Tahitians? Could he not cross oceans yet? Was this war a ruse to settle more cities? We'll never know.
- The AI is only a big bit of code.
- 55:
- Here is what everyone hates: Sibir, the average nation in the north. ACtually, it looks quite strong -
- but only due to the lack of neighbours. The Xiongnu horse warriors will be eaten readily by Sibirian
- spearmen so they don't need to worry there, and there's easy cities in Eschate (Bactria!) and Perm and
- Aral in the southwest that Sibir could gun for.
- Peace in NA and in Oz too - with Kulin losing only the one city to the Kimberley.
- 56:
- Actually, looks like the Kimberley scraped another city in the peace deal, unifying their empire very
- nicely and creating a great border to focus on in the next war. Come on Murri, strike will the Kulin iron
- is cold!
- Surabaya has taken damage, but won't fall.
- 57:
- Not that iron! Murri take on Kimberley, the wrong opponents... Mowanjum could fall, but this is waste of
- effort and waste of diplomacy. The Kulin are terrified but alive. With the Murri's cities taking up the
- food-rich area of Oz, we see some big cities like Cavanbah, which will only help science and production.
- They also have a religion to spread.
- 58:
- The Vandals peace out, losing that war and hopefully with their pride equall damaged. Catane is settled
- though, so evens out a bit. Now, please deal with Spain. Valencia is in a very cheeky position and
- undefended.
- 59:
- Lyubech nearly taken, swordsman at the ready. It seems like Turkey is preparing to defend the isthmus at
- Istanbul.
- 60:
- Nothing going on down here, but we get a nice view of Patagonia and SA. No-one has the Falkland Islands
- yet, which in the CBR was home to Copiapo, the world's largest city until it was taken by Brazil and the
- Boers teched up.
- 61:
- Taiwan still taiwaning, although they too hate Sibir. Siam look to be a similar match still, but the Song
- long weak. Where are the Taiwanese triremes headed? South?
- 62:
- The Pontiac lose one war to focus on another more pressing war. The Cree's spearmen lead the charge into
- Michilimackinac, another great Scrabble-scorer. Manitoulin could be damaged but I doubt it will fall.
- Look at the Wabanaki though, who could score a few northern cities without much effort.
- 63:
- As expected, Lyubech falls, and Atil doesn't. Perm isn't even bothering to find his spearmen any work to
- do.
- I get the sense that all units in Turkey's cities were damaged by the Rus' at the same time as the cities
- themselves were damaged. Otherwise, who has the stealth bombers? Finland?
- 64:
- This amazing forward-settle from the Condeferates is rightfully highlighted, although they didn't manage
- to take the sugar on Cuba. Pontiac peaces out with Acadia, a war that didn't do anything. The Acadians
- rejoice by attempting their own forward-settle of Haiti.
- 65:
- A good view of the Sami, who could threaten the Prussians quite easily. Their religion is spreading fast
- too - food-based if I remember correctly.
- 66:
- Our first shot of the Zulu, who, for once, could walk through their northern neighbours quickly. I hope
- they reach impi before they attack though, to maximise their damage.
- Still no damage to Kilwa's capital from Rhodesia.
- 67:
- Massagetae also exist. They are weak, beaten by the Bactrians and worried by the Xiongnu.
- 68:
- The Indian subcontinent - half Cholan, half Mughal, half Bactrian. Mughals have spearmen though, so I'd
- back them for now.
- 69:
- A quick look at statelines - California sticking roughly to California, and Utah stretching from Mexico
- (Provo) to Canada (Bunkerville). Their residents live in Harmony (cue a capella singing), but they need
- to Fillmore of the land up with Salt Lake cities.
- 70:
- Florida claimed by Acadia. Memphis is back to the Confederates, who have defended very well this part, so
- well they've taken a city too! COuld Chignecto fall or have the Confederates run out of steam?
- Turns out Nepal *was* at war with the Mughals, just nothing ever happened. Let's blame the mountains.
- 71:
- South America is sleepy. Let's ponder the civs here. Let's ponder them, but let's lie down a bit first.
- Yes, that's comfortable. Okay, let's begin. The Tupi... mm, the Tupi. Yes. I like that colour. It's a bit
- different to the other green. Mm. Okay. I'm so comfortable.

- Actually the armies don't look bad, the cities are strong and populous, and the terrain will make war
- difficult.
- Next slide!
- 72:
- Sardinia-Piedmont are still pushing against the Normans, who are pushing against the Spanish. The Great
- European cluster is going strong. I wish for more war though. Prussia against Sardinia would be a great
- battle.
- 73:
- This is Iceland, who have colonised England. A small land army, sure, but few opponents too. Once their
- navy buils up, we could see the Iceland famed in the CBR for being gung-ho and active and conquering.
- 74:
- The north of Europe is even more carpeted - war will break out soon, for sure. The Swedes have the best
- navy in the world, although it snakes from the North Sea to the tip of Lapland, and half of it is cut off
- from the other half by the Prussian border. My money is on the Swedes to win Europe at the moment, thanks
- to that army, that amount of cities, and that singular opponent to the east.
- 75:
- Perm realises that moving a spearman is more difficult that making peace, so they do the latter. Atil
- survives to sleep another night.
- Sardinia-Piedmont runs out of luck though, with Spain and Prussia declaring. This will be good!
- 76:
- Xiongnu still sprawl across Asia. A new city in Hovd moves them closer to the Chinese.
- 77:
- We cut to the conflict in the Med. Spain can only reach Sardinia with their navy, which for some reason
- is already damaged.
- 78:
- Michiel de Ruyter leads the navy to Cuneo, an Italianate town near where Rome is probably buried. A land
- army awaits.
- 79:
- In the north though, Prussia move their army south. The Alps are very in the way. Chambery is well-
- shielded with troops, and the whole area is rough terrain and chokepoints. Prussia will hemmorhage troops
- badly here and no good will come of it.
- 80:
- My 80th thing I've written this evening. Thanks so much for reading and watching, and thank you to
- /u/Lurking_Chronicler for letting me do this.
- As we see, Nepal are the most populous, with 17m people! Sweden are the strongest in terms of military,
- and I think that's the Zulu pretty much clearing everything else up.
- Good night and see you next time!
