2. The Beginner's Guide for Survival
3.
4. == Getting Started ==
5. When you first spawn in, you'll be weaponless and lost. At one of many set spawn locations, Your first objective is to find a town to loot for supplies and weaponry. It is advised that you keep crouched or prone when approaching and travelling through the location to avoid attracting zombies. Search the structures inside the town for anything that can be used as a weapon. A backpack should be your next priority, as the ability to carry more supplies will enable you to survive longer. Until you have a backpack, keep your inventory clear of excess weaponry to allow the gathering of extra supplies.
6.
7. *When you have a melee weapon, a power attack deals significantly more damage than a regular attack. Power attacks use up stamina and the damage done by melee weapons may be increased with the warrior skill. You may perform a power attack by right-clicking.
8.
9. *If your spawning location is not satisfactory, you can suicide your character until you find a better one.
10.
11. == Hunger and Dehydration ==
12. You will quickly become hungry and thirsty, and looting is a the primary method of gathering food and water. Restaurants and houses with kitchens typically hold food and drinks, so looting these structures is advised. If seeds are found, save them for later if possible so you can grow your own food. You can break down mouldy vegetation that you find by placing it in the crafting menu to create seeds.
13.
14. * ALWAYS CARRY YOUR WATER CANTEEN WITH YOU! It is the optimum solution for dehydration,as you can collect water from the sea and drink it without any side effects. As foodstuff is not a very common thing, it will be the solution of your problems.
15.
16. *If you are unable to find a canteen, obtain 1 can and 1 water bottle in order to craft one. Use purification tablets on moldy water bottles to get regular ones.
17.
18. *Pizza restaurants carry a lot of fresh food. Be sure to check one if there is one in the town you are in.
19.
20. *Houses with kitchens almost always have food. Be sure to check the fridges.
21.
22. *Only eat moldy food if your hunger is above 85%, as sickness and hunger can build up over time and kill you. It's simply not worth it in the long-run. But it's not a really necessary problem if you have some antibiotics or vitamins,because its easy to beat sickness if you have a good defence.
23.
24. *Keep a mental note of the places you've been; pharmacies carry medical supplies, stores carry food and tools, and clothiers and laundromats have clothing which can be broken down into Cloth to make rags, bandages and dressings to heal with. Familiarize yourself with the crafting system, as it will help more than almost anything else early on.
25.
26. == Weapon Selection ==
27. Weapons are your friends, which can be brutal murderers or a silent option. Firearms, especially good ones are rare and mostly found in deadly areas of map (Such as the military bases,) or just a matter of luck. Some people prefer blunt weapons, but sharper weapons such as the Fire Axe mostly have 2 or 3 hit K.O.'s, which may let you down in a last stand. The Sledgehammer, Fire Axe and Katana are probably the best choices overall, because of their damage, sound and they don't need munitions. But firearms (especially the scoped ones, such as the extremely rare Timberwolf) are the barons of multiplayer, because they deal massive damage and they have a large range. The Crossbow is a good choice, as it packs a nice silent punch and it has a common spawn rate. The ammo which it uses, arrows, also have a common spawn rate. Another good point of the crossbow is that it has an already-attached 6x scope, making it a good choice for picking off zombies at a long range for players who have not yet found the more powerful sniper rifles.
28.
29. *Weapons are graded by their sound, damage and rarity.
30.
31. *Try not to collect extra magazines of ammo, saving them for weapons you want to find. They take up valuable space in your backpack for other important supplies. Try to just keep the magazines for the weapon you use.
32.
33. == Assassinations ==
34. These happen uncommonly but it always works if you are an experienced hunter (or your victim is not a very good escapee) and these happen especially for getting revenge, by destroying a group in their base or when they are in their ride. You have a limited selection of weapons for this, because it must be silent and effective.
35.
36. OFFENSE:
37. * Crossbow ( 20 or more arrows -6x scope - bayonet)
38. * Suppressed automatic weapon and Katana,in case of something goes wrong
39. * Forest military armor,and forest fatigues,enough food-drink-medical for survival
40. * Raw explosive and detonator,and some traps if necessary
41. * A ghillie suit-ish bush, because they dont detect you at night time.
42. DISTRACTION:
43. * A loud weapon for drawing some zombies
44. * Chemlight and roadflare
45. * Worklights,for fake bases
46. ESCAPE (if you are the victim):
47. * Any muffled or supressed and scoped assault rifle
48. * Any type of cover to last even longer
49. * A fake source of light. (Place in the building and run away as far as you can
50.
51. == Clearing Areas ==
52. When you first reach an unexplored town, it's a good idea to clear it of zombies before you loot. The most effective way of doing so is to crouch and sneak up on zombies and kill them one by one. This method minimizes danger.
53.
54. Tip: Only attempt to clear a town if you have a weapon. Using your fists is very difficult and you'll most likely take a lot of damage. If you have no other choice, grabbing a car and running over zombies is also very effective, just be careful to not let the car blow up while you're in it.
55.
56. == Basic Survival Tools ==
57. There are a few survival tools which are key to constructing a proper base. An axe is used to chop trees to get the materials to build barricades for your base. Use the pickaxe to mine rocks to make a camp-fire (4 stones + 4 sticks). Also, a pocketknife should be kept if found to make wooden spikes for wooden spike traps.If you have a damaged car in use, try to find a Blowtorch, which can be found on SS. Haven and Mechanic.
58.
59. Tip: Axes and pickaxes commonly spawn at farms.
60.
61. Tip: If you have a ride or multiple cars,carry a Blowtorch to repair them.
62.
63. == Skills ==
64. For actual information of the eight available skills, see Skills.
65.
66. Your skills determine how much damage you do, how much you take, how quickly you starve, what you can make, and how long you can run and power attack. In short, skills are essential to surviving. The survival skill depicts your starvation/dehydration rate, so often and early a point in it is helpful. Beyond that, anything you need at the moment is fair game. With two points in Warrior, most heavy melee weapons (axes and sledgehammers) will one-shot civilian zombies when hitting them in the head with a power attack. One point in crafting gives you everything you need to build your houses, the expensive second point grants explosive traps. Energy upgrades reduce the cost of sprinting, jumping, and power attacking. Marksman, when upgraded enough, makes pistols excellent for dealing with up close zombies, allowing you to save precious shells and rare ammo.
67.
68. Tip: When maxed out, Energy will make jumping and power attacking free. You will be able to sprint for a solid ~30 seconds as well.
69.
70. Tip: Max at least one of Warrior and Immunity, as they both affect incoming damage from zombies; Warrior reduces it, Immunity gives you more hit points (hidden beneath the percentage). Warrior at rank 3 allows a sledgehammer's power attack to one-hit kill any zombie with a headshot.
71.
72. Tip: Bows are excellent for picking off zombies (and, potentially, threatening players) from a distance thanks to their completely silent shots.
73.
74. == Building Your Own Base ==
75. Here comes the difficult part, building a base, you can build a base almost anywhere, but its very hard to make one , if you want to know how go to this link and check the tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkUclyXR6ps.
76.
77. otherwise, get some barricades to protect your home base, you can easily find them at military locations or industrial locations, put 1 or 2 barricades at the door so zombies will need to take them down to get you, also find or craft some traps, the most common to find and easier to craft are the spike traps , put them in front of the barricades to hurt them while they try to destroy you barricades, get a source of light, you can find work lights in military and factory locations but remember you will need a generator to make them work, place them in and outside of your base, but make sure that they're protected because they can be destroyed by zombies.
78.
79. Tip: It's much easier to live in a house in a town than building your own base but a player-made base may be destroyed but can be built as large as desired.
80.
81. Tip: If they aren't occupied, either of the two farms on PEI are excellent; they both have only a few zombie spawns, can spawn rare bows, each have a Water Well, and one even has a Fuel Tank. They are conveniently located between the two major towns as well, making them absolutely ideal, but incredibly dangerous to hold in multiplayer. Expect to see company, and maybe bring some friends if you plan on fortifying one on a public server.
82.
83. Tip: If you are playing Co-Op way with a couple of friends,select the farm with the fuel tanks. It's large, has fuel tanks and a water well, a farm and a big barn to live in. Barricading farms are easy, just place few fortifications on the windows and make a door.
84.
85. == Getting your personal food and water source ==
86. This is a great thing to do if you want to survive, find some seeds and plant them outside your home base so you can get an infinite food source from your very own personal crops! Also you can craft or find a canteen to store water (1 can + 1 bottled water *it wont work with big bottled water or moldy bottled water* ) you can find them most commonly at camping locations or craft it yourself , crafting it is way easier , because it very common to find cans and bottled water in civilian locations.
87.
88. Tip: Be sure that you live close to either a lake or a Water Well, since they allow you to infinitely refill your canteen.
89.
90. == Keeping Hidden ==
91. If you want to survive in a public server then you have to move from place to place and not get attacked, especially by snipers and bandits. Your ride can be taken when you are not in the game, and you can be seen easily at night time if you have white clothes. Find a ninja or a ghillie suit, they both will make you virtually invisible at night but they are very hard to find. There is a chance for a Ninja Suit to spawn in the airport's A.T.C. tower and for the Ghillie it has a chance to spawn in military locations which can be easily grabbed by a fresh spawn around a military base.
92.
93. -Ninja
94.
95. Ninja Suit, Police Armor, Alicepack ,Katana, A berry bush for not being detected so easily, and of course a silenced Timberwolf, Matamorez or basically a crossbow. 5 units of water and food each until you find new ones. Try to stack them to avoid overloaded backpack, or carry 5 MRE's, which replenish both hunger and thirst.
96.
97. -Ghillie
98.
99. Ghillie Suit, Forest Armor, Rucksack, any melee weapon, a suppressed heavy weapon or a crossbow with tactical laser. 5 units of water and food each until you find new ones. Try to stack them to avoid overloaded backpack, or carry 5 MRE's, which replenish both hunger and thirst.
100. == Things are getting tougher ==
101. If you want to survive you should go to a military location. There you can find tons of medical supplies, firearms, attachments, and even (aesthetic) armor. but be careful, as here resides another two types of zombie: the military and SWAT zombies. These are very hard to kill, having twice the health of civilian zombies, but a well placed head shot (or shotgun blast) will take them down quickly. Exploring the military base or airport will always yield good items, but make sure you come equipped and are able to drive away in case things go awry.
102.
103. Tip: Hammers and axes are recommended for melee. Even with few or no points in Warrior, you can kill them in two or three head shots.
104.
105. Tip: Its recommended to use common guns due to the abundance of ammo for them.
106.
107. Tip: If you have to use your fists, always move backwards to avoid damage, and aim to the head.
108.
109. == Get yourself a ride! ==
110. If you want to survive in the zombie apocalypse you need to find a vehicle. The first goal is to find one with enough fuel to get to a gas tank, usually 10% will suffice. Now that you have your ride, search for at least one gas can, though carrying two will get you more mileage as you explore. Refill your vehicle with gasoline constantly so you can travel to locations near your base and get some supplies for yourself. Remember not to go too far away from your home base as you can get lost out there and it will take time to return home, effectively wasting fuel.
111.
112. Tip: Always carry an extra can of fuel in case when you are out of gas or just have to escape with a random vehicle.Get to Willtshire Farm to get fuel,because its easily reachable and in middle of map.
113.
114. Tip: Carry a map if you are not very sure where are you going. Maps spawn at Airport, Military tents and Military Bases.
115.
116. Tip: Remember not to drop your empty gas cans. You can refill them in fuel tanks that can be found at military locations and a few civilian locations. Fuel tanks are static buildings, and won't be depleted or destroyed. Left clicking with an empty gas can will refill it.
117.
118. Tip: Jerry cans can be very easily found in the military base, almost always at least 1-3 spawn in the hangers.
119.
120. Tip: Using a blowtorch on your vehicle will slowly start to repair your vehicle.
121.
122. == How to deal with other players ==
123. The greatest threat in multiplayer is other players. if you see any other player, do not get close to them, as they may very well fire at you on sight. Voice chat is useful to prodding out their intentions and determining if they are a friend or foe, but always be ready at any point for betrayal. In most cases, they will either fire on you immediately or try to find where you are stashing your supplies. Dying a few times early on won't matter, but the more you have to protect, the more cautious you should be.
124.
125. *Grab green camouflage gear and a crossbow and hide in the woods. There are bushes that will match your camouflage, so hide in them and put an arrow in your opponents head without even being seen.
126.
127. *Most players are aggressive, so be careful out there!
128.
129. *Always carry a hidden firearm that nobody knows about. Having the element of surprise will be helpful if opponents try to pick on you with a melee weapon.
130.
131. == Hunting ==
132. If you want to survive and you are out of resources like food, it's time to hunt! You can find animals like deer and pigs, which most commonly spawn at the woods and mountains or rarely near towns and bases, so get yourself a weapon and go hunting to the woods! Always go crouching and prone when closer , animals are sensitive to players. If you get too close it will run away, so having a long range weapon will make them much easier to kill off. remember to cook the raw meat you get in a camp-fire so you won't get even more sickness, to cook it just go near a camp-fire. You can craft and open the crafting menu, select the fire icon and the low left corner of the crafting menu next to the icon of a hammer and a pickaxe and put your raw meat in the ingredient slot and you are done.
133.
134. *Don't waste your ammo! Be sure that your weapon has a scope.
135.
136. *Pick a good position,animals run away if your shot is not one hit k.o.
137.
138. *Get yourself a longbow or craft it and get some arrows too, as the bow is more silent than guns and does more damage than most anyway.
139.
140. *The best bows spawn far more regularly on farms, so checking them for a compound bow or a crossbow can be worthwhile.
141.
142. *If you have the time, try aiming for a head shot. This will increase the chances it will down in one shot, and so the animal will be less likely to run away.
143.
144. *You can easily hit animals with your car. This will not count as a kill towards any achievement progress.
145.
146. == Night time ==
147. The most dangerous time is at night. Zombies will spawn at night, so be careful. If you go looting other towns or bases, zombies may spawn while you are away. It is safe to go looting and clearing areas at night, as zombies won't spawn until you get a certain distance away from your base. An un-cleared town is not safe at night, you'd better do it silently or wait until daybreak. Craft a metal door so the zombies won't break in and kill you while you are crafting or doing something else. However, be cautious as zombies can slowly destroy barricades, doors, and ladders. Check your barricades every once in a while and replace weakened or destroyed fortifications.
148.
149. Tip: If you are tough enough, make a quick trip to Airport and grab yourself a pair of night vision goggles. These are very rare, so be sure to not lose them. The problem with the goggles is that you cannot select colors very well. A much simpler alternative as of update 2.1.1, would be Miner Helmets which spawn commonly on most towns, or make them by combining a Construction Helmet with a Torch.
150.
151. Tip: If you quit the game, the cleared town will be infested with zombies again, so if you want to quit the game get back to your home base and quit. It's unpleasant to open your game and find yourself in the middle of the street with zombies surrounding you!
152.
153. == Steam Achievements ==
154. This is optional if you want to feel good about yourself you might want to get Steam Achievements.
155.
156. There is plenty of steam achievements the first you might want to get and the easiest is going at the end of the bridge and also get true guts. http://unturned-bunker.wikia.com/wiki/Steam_Achievements
157.
158. == Some good places to use as a base ==
159.
160. === Farms ===
161. Farms are a great place to create a base, especially the farm with a gas tank and the water well, Wiltshire Farm. This farm allows you to have an infinite supply of gas for your vehicle and infinite water supply for your canteens. Barricading the house there with shutters and doors will protect you from the 3 - 4 zombies that spawn there. Be careful, as zombies may spawn there again once you clear them and if you're playing on a public server, this area may be regularly raided by bandits.The problem is,you cant protect your crops unless there is a crap load of building materials.
162.
163. === The Lighthouse ===
164. The Lighthouse in Summerside Peninsula is a good place to set up a base as there is only one entrance, allowing you to set up traps for unwary intruders. The top of the lighthouse is also a good place to run from zombies, as zombies cannot climb ladders, allowing you to shoot them from above. Items also spawn frequently up there, items such as ammo and notes. There is also a water source nearby (the sea) and there is plenty of trees around, allowing you to easily acquire wood. Be wary of the 3 - 4 zombies that spawn around the area. You are also reasonably exposed on the top of the lighthouse, allowing bandits to snipe you. The lighthouse is also very isolated, a long walk/run to the nearest houses, or you will have to waste fuel to get to them by car. Although it makes a nice watchtower for a group's home-made base, allowing you to see the houses in the distance.
165.
166. === The Blocked-Up House ===
167. The Blocked-Up House is located in Montague, near Taylor Beach and Kensington Campground. It's a great place to use as a base because it's IMPOSSIBLE to zombies enter it. You will need Ladders to get into it. Inside the house is a Military Box that can spawn Military-grade items, such as Zubeknakov and Uzi.
168.
169. ===Watchtowers<nowiki/>===
170. The watchtowers in the military bases are great place to build a first base, since zombies cannot climb ladders, is a secure place, as well there spawn some rare items you can found some good surprise when you come to the game, like an alice pack, or night vision goggles.
