  1. This is an email I received while trying to sign up for SendGrid earlier. I totally get the domain ownership confirmation and maybe some basic questions about what I will be sending, but this is basically asking me to disclose a ton of confidential info about my business.
  2.
  3. Is it just me or is this really excessive? I don't think I will be moving forward with them at this point. Definitely looking at alternatives.

  21. In order to provision your account we'll need to know what type of emails you'll be sending using our service, but the website provided during registration was not sufficient to help us determine this.
  22.
  23. If you would please elaborate on the following, we can get things moving along:
  24. 1. The nature of your business, what kind of service you provide, and who your potential customer base is.
  25. 2. The nature of your sending, frequency, list size and user base;
  26. 3. Where you obtain your lists, and how your userbase is collected;
  27. 4. What your "opt-out" process is like, if you plan on using SendGrid's one-click unsubscribe, or if you have another method;
  28. and 5. The types of messages you're sending.
  29.
  30. Please reply to this email with an explanation, and we can proceed with provisioning your account.
  31.
  32. In order to provision your account, we need you to verify ownership of your domain. We can verify you control the domain in one of the three following ways:
  33.
  34. 1: Update your email in your Account Settings page to an address that uses the same domain as your registration website, then verify the new address via the email sent to it.
  35. 2: Add/modify an html page on the domain to include the text "sendgrid".
  36. 3: Add a CNAME DNS record pointing to sendgrid.net. i.e. sendgrid.yourdomain.com
  37.
  38. If you would like to proceed using the first option please visit: http://sendgrid.com/account/reverify
  39.
  40. Please reply to this email once you've completed one of these steps, letting us know which step you've completed and the details, so that we can verify and continue provisioning your account.
  41.
  42. -- Sincerely,
  43.
  44. SendGrid Team
