  1. Another year and another Riddler puzzle. How have you Batboobs been doing? This puzzle really seemed to hurt quite a few of you, so for that I do not apologize, I'm the GOD DAMN RIDDLER! Now let's begin.
  2.
  3. Original Hint
  4. ===============================================================================
  5. Good evening Batboobs! I have a new puzzle for you (one of a few more to come). I hope you find this riddle troubling. Here's the first box https://mega.nz/#!c9YWQI5A!bo2y8BDEDMakBN8eNuZse0H9uuHRQaryf4wFu7UirkQ. While you ponder it here's something to keep you in wonder https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riddler

  19. Sol
  20. This is an old fashioned substitution cipher. To solve it you must simply replace the numbers with letters, how simple! Of course I don't give the word bank that easy, or do I? You'll notice in the hint there is a wikipedia article about a truly handsome man. Head over there and you'll notice the following
  21. 1 Character overview
  22. 1.1 Personality disorders
  23. 2 Fictional character biography
  24. 2.1 "Hush"
  25. 2.2 Aftermath
  26. 2.3 Riddler reformed
  27. 2.4 Return to villainy

  42. That looks pretty fimilar doesn't it? So we can see that the leading number corresponds to the section, but what about the second? Some folks though it referred to the section, but in this case it was much easier, it is the letter position in the index title. Once you have that translated you get the hint above and the answer of course is the question (all lowercase).
  43.
  44. Hint #1
  45. Open the box and you get Hint 1
  46. ===============================================================================
  47. You know what Maui loves to do at Christmas? (all lowercase)
  48.
  49. Sol
  50. Side note about this, my grammar is correct you can all go to hell!
  51. The answer of course is "rock around the christmas tree"
  52.
  53. Hint #2
  54. Open the box and you get Hint 2, mobydick.txt
  55. ===============================================================================
  56. So you got another, well what's one more to a genius! Here's a read to CAPITALIZE on your time.
  57.
  58. Sol
  59. The hint tells you to capitalize, check out the mobydick.txt and you'll notice that it's all lowercase, or is it? Search for capital letters in the file and you'll find
  60. YOUTOOKMYLEGSANDKIDNAPPEDMEYOUKEEPMEALIVEFORALLTOSEEADORNEDANDFESTIVEWHATAMI which translates to You took my legs and kidnapped me. You keep me alive for all to see. Adorned and festive? What am I? The answer of course being "christmas tree"
  61.
  62. Hint #3
  63. Open the box and you get Hint 3
  64. ===============================================================================
  65. Ahh I so love the holidays. I'm thinking of a special number it can only be found if you know how to subtract the start from the finish. Though to find these numbers you'll probably have to have an encyclopedic or maybe even wikipedic knowledge of what these things have in common.
  66. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pong
  67. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Dickens
  68. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_cuisine
  69. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion_Television
  70.
  71. Sol
  72. These articles seem so unrelated don't they? This puzzle really hurt some folks, when I came up with it I was so excited, and it looks as though I was right. The thing you were looking for is a wikipedia article they all have in common, that would be https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_and_holiday_season. The original hint tells you to look for a start/finish and you'll see in the page they share that there is a start and stop, namely the start/finish of the Holiday season which is of course Dec 25 to January 6, so 25-6 = 19.
  73.
  74. Hint #4
  75. Open the box and you get Hint 4
  76. ===============================================================================
  77. I tell you the winter is cold as the Dickens! If I was a much more crotchedy man I might even die in the same YEAR!
  78.
  79. Sol
  80. This hint is fairly straight forward, Dickens is a clue as is crotchedy old man, anyone that has went through 6th grade English should immediately know that's Ebeenezer Scrooge, so when did he die? The answer being of course 1844
  81.
  82. Hint #5
  83. Open the box and you get Hint 5
  84. ===============================================================================
  85. I must admit you are pretty close. Your TRANSPOSITION is at an end, but only if you can CIPHER this out.
  86. RDDPHMY UKCOTSJ OCYNSIS CEOWCTO YAMEORA. I'll even be kind and tell you that the key is something I've been called by all the mister and misses out there.
  87.
  88. Sol
  89. This is a bit more technical, clearly you are supposed to search for a transposition cipher https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transposition_cipher. Reading about those and you'll find columnar transposition. So what now? You need a key to decrypt the cipher, but what could it be? There are 5 columns in the hint which means it should be a 5 letter word. So what could it be? Something that I've been called by all the Mr's/Mrs' out there? What could that be well perhaps it's Mr. Nigma, but we only need five so the key word is Nigma

  92. Y O U C R
  93. A C K E D
  94. M Y C O D
  95. E N O W P
  96. O S T C H
  97. R I S T M
  98. A S J O Y
  99.
  100. Knowing that you can see how I encoded my hint by looking above, the uncrypted message reads YOU CRACKED MY MY CODE NOW POST CHRISTMAS JOY. Voila you are done.
