  1. "Beagle, how do I set my default rookie armor/hats/etc in Long War like you do?"
  2. Fear not gentle XCOM enthusiast, it only took me three days to actually write this like I said I would. It's actually dead simple:
  3.
  4. 1. Go to the config folder in your XCOM: Enemy Within directory. For me, that'd be "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\XCom-Enemy-Unknown\XEW\XComGame\Config"
  5.
  6. 2. Open the DefaultGameCore file in notepad.
  7.
  8. 3. Ctrl+F to find, and search for "appearance". you should be taken to the line "Initial soldier appearance".
  9.
  10. 4. Follow the instructions; in case you can't for some reason, there's an explanation below.
  11.
  12. 5. Save the file, load up the game, voila!
  13.
  14. In all of these, the number represents the number of the deco/hat/colour you want to use.
  15. - Change the DEFENDER_MEDIKIT number to change Rookie default colour. I use 9 for a nice Green.
  16. - Change the COUNCIL_STAT_BONUS number to set their default armor style. I like 69 for the big warm jackets.
  17. - Change the ShowUFOsOnMission number to set their default headgear. I like 200 for the hockey-mask style bike Helmet.
  18.
  19. Below that, you can also set default colours and headgears for troops as they level up. For example, changing the "Sniper Color" or "Sniper Headgear" would autoset anyone who became a sniper to that colour/headgear. -1 means no change, I simply have 9 as my colour for all of them and -1 as my headgear for all of them, and set my colours and headgears as I wish at this point.
  20.
  21.
  22. The following numbers are a rough guide to get you started on what means what number wise. This list is probably out of date so trial and error may be the best way to figure out what means what, I don't think they ever made a specific guide to it.
