duìzhăng is standard chinese for "captain," "team leader," "headman," more specifically that of an army unit. the innards of this mix are very much angled towards bak's own idea of himself, from the grandiose, to the regretful, to the sacrificially willing. the boy bears an empire on slight shoulders, and it shows in the intense words and the disenchanted eyes and the cracked stone.
