  1. [20:29] <@CounterBeard> You have been enroute on your current mission for over a month. Everyone is tense for the arrival. The Captain has not made a single stupid pun in four days. Things are grim. The man who chartered your services has been on edge since you set off. His entourage have assured you all that everything would be fine once you got there. Argent is his usual self. Cool, calm, collected. But you can see the sign in him as well.
  2. [20:30] <@CounterBeard> During your current lesson, you see him stop and catch his breath for a moment as a spasm takes him.
  3. [20:32] * Castor flinches slightly when his long time mentor seizes up and makes to approach him but instead only manages to look down awkwardly at his feet, glancing up at the aging man worriedly.
  4. [20:35] <@CounterBeard> "Come now Castor. Is that how we face anything? Look at me."
  5. [20:37] <Castor> Slowly but surely, Castor looks up from the ground and toward Argent, forcing a kind of smile on his face. "There are a lot of things I don't much want to face...sir."
  6. [20:40] <@CounterBeard> "Very rarely in this world, do we find the circumstances we desire. But often times we find ourselves in the ones that require us the most. Now that I have your attention, report what you see." His bluesteel eyes stare directly ahead as if he is seeing something far into the distance. Past Castor, past the walls, past the clouds that surround the ship.
  7. [20:43] * Castor tuns his head in an attempt to make out what Argent is seeing but frowns when he can't seem to make any sense of it. With a glum look and a wry smile on his face he reports, "I see an old man who really should have called it quits years ago. And I see a kid who's not really ready to let go of him."
  8. [20:44] * Castor looks at Argent sadly, unsure if the man's eyes were even still capable of making out his expression, "Tell me I'm wrong. Please."
  9. [20:52] <@CounterBeard> He chuckles, a bit sadly. "I wish I could lie to you. We both know the truth. I have been getting by on my other senses. Smell, hearing, touch. The last month especially has been tiring. I am afraid the muddled shapes I see now will not last another fortnight."
  10. [20:54] * Castor doesn't react to the news visibly but blinks for the longest time before asking, "So, how long do you have?"
  11. [21:01] <@CounterBeard> "Two to three months. Four in ideal conidtions. Which I belive we both know these are far from."
  12. [21:01] <Castor> "Does the Captain kn-why am I asking, of course he does."
  13. [21:02] * Castor looks away and rubs at his arm, "Have you made the uh, preparations?"
  14. [21:06] <@CounterBeard> Argent nods. "I have done as best I can in the cirumstances. I am to reside in the family tomb upon our return. My possesions are already spoken for and my last will and testament has been signed for quite some time. There is little left to do but wait."
  15. [21:06] <@CounterBeard> His spasm starts again, stronger this time.
  16. [21:08] <Castor> This time, Castor rushes to the man's side and pulls out the few medical supplies he has on his person even though he knows it's pointless.
  17. [21:11] <@CounterBeard> He waves you off as he takes a seat. "Soon. Too soon. I have not prepared you enough. I have so much. SO much I wish for you to learn. And to tell you. But there is time left. Some."
  18. [21:13] * Castor is awkwardly stuffs his supplies back into hi bag and chews his lip, "We could always start now, you know?"
  19. [21:24] <@CounterBeard> He nods. Coughs. And then nods again. "What do you remember of my past? What I have told you. What do you remember?"
  20. [21:38] <@CounterBeard> Masterly
  21. [21:38] <@CounterBeard> Castor
  22. [21:38] <@CounterBeard> Ping
  23. [21:48] <Castor> Sorry
  24. [21:49] <Castor> I feel asleep at my desk
  25. [21:49] <Castor> I've kind of had a long day
  26. [21:51] <Castor> "You...used to work for somebody important. Someone you won't tell me about, but took up most of your life to do."
  27. [22:00] <@CounterBeard> "Correct. I cannot say everything I would like. But as I am on my deathbed. Well Chair really. Deathchair just dosen't have the same ring. Anyhow. I. Was an agent of her majesty. But I was awarded no medals. I got no honors. No plaque with my name."
  28. [22:05] * Castor closes his eyes and continues for him, putting a few things together. "But before entered her special service you were a regular army man. Which is where you met the Captain, I presume."
  29. [22:06] <Castor> "The way you and him carry yourselves are very similar. Corroborated by the esteem in which he holds you, in spite of your generally low ranking position on the ship."
  30. [22:06] <Castor> "A field medic, I'm guessing. Based on the things you've taught me. Am I correct?"
  31. [22:07] <@CounterBeard> Argent grins. "Good, good. You retain well. That is important."
  32. [22:12] <@CounterBeard> "Yes. I was a field medic for some time. I assisted the captain in both respects. My offical position as well as my rather nebulous one as well. He is a good man. One I trust, for all his faults."
  33. [22:15] * Castor looks away again, "I respect the Captain for all he's done for me but I can't say I share those views, sir."
  34. [22:22] <@CounterBeard> "I understand. I hope one day you have those you are able to trust. I hope it does not take you nearly as long as it has myself."
  35. [22:24] <Castor> "Don't say that. You've done more for me than I can ever pay you back with."
  36. [22:30] <@CounterBeard> His smile is weary and slow. "I have seen and done more than my share of things I will regret until my last day. And from what, I feel is much to little, I have taught you I hope you will not repeat my mistakes. I have mentioned my will and my posessions. They are yours. TO do with as you please."
  37. [22:32] * Castor is taken aback by this news and looks confused, "But, what about your family? Wouldn't they want your belongings when you...go?"
  38. [22:45] <@CounterBeard> "Most of them will be taken care of by the state. I had certain arrangments in place for them. And what I leave you is more burden than gift Castor. It is the tools of my former trade. One that, I am sure if you desire, would be welcome into."
  39. [22:46] * Castor frowns a little but then reaches over and places a hand over Argent arm, looking quite serious for once. "Nothing you could give me would ever be a burden, sir. I know you don't have long but...I want you to know that at the very least."
  40. [22:48] <@CounterBeard> Argent places his hand over your own. "Thank you. You have no idea how much that means to me."
  41. [22:48] <@CounterBeard> Roll for me in main chat Perception please.
  42. [22:51] <@CounterBeard> You hear a whistling, faint at first, but growing in intensity.
  43. [22:58] <@CounterBeard> After a moment you feel a slight jolt in the ship, and a deafening roar, not from any beast or man, but from wood split and burst apart at high speeds. As the room splits open you can feel gravity begin to pull at you as the ship begins to plummet. You catch sight of something as it makes a return dive through the ship.
  44. [22:59] * Castor jerks up into the air and catches himself against the wall, spinning around frantically to catch sight of the danger. "Sir! Get somewhere safe! I need to check on the people up on deck."
  45. [23:00] <@CounterBeard> An aerodactyl largen than any you have seen, spikes jutting from its wings and back, almost as dark as the night tears through the Karp. On its back a man rides, some sort of weapon made from wood and obsidian in his hands he shrieks his war cry, the paint on his face and body almost blending him to the beast he rides. His head is bald of hair, but shards of the black rock in an odd mimicry of his beast adorn it.
  46. [23:01] <@CounterBeard> Man and beast cleave through again and through the gaping hole you see the karp begin to fall in several chunks. You have one action. What do?
  47. [23:02] <Castor> (I have no weapon yet?)
  48. [23:03] <@CounterBeard> Not yet.
  49. [23:04] <Castor> Can I see anybody currently on deck/needing help?
  50. [23:05] <@CounterBeard> You see one of the Tempest Sisters with a huge gash on her leg. She is close by but you would have to leave Argent.
  51. [23:06] * Castor watches the attack but forces himself to turn away and head back down below deck. The sisters could take care of themselves for the time being, Argent needed him /now./
  52. [23:07] <Castor> Before he leaves though, he bends down to pick at whatever scrap is on the floor and throws it at the rider, hoping to distract it from the crewmate however temporarily.
  53. [23:07] <Castor> Can I use Fling?
  54. [23:08] <@CounterBeard> Go for it
  55. [23:12] <@CounterBeard> You throw a bit of wooden rubble and glance it off the riders shoulder he laughs turning to you. He speaks in a language you have never heard of before. You can't make heads or tails of it. At the end he just laughs, slapping his war beast they fly out of the wreckage, and you continue to fall.
  56. [23:12] <@CounterBeard> and /mini
