  3. The Ballad of Kayla and Toby
  4.
  5. Kayla leapt into her best friends arms. It was the first day of summer camp and it felt like an eternity since they were last together. Camp never felt so tense as this time around. Kayla had thought about Toby all year long, with an ambiguous connotation in remembrance of the time they had spent last year.
  6. She wondered if they'd ever let Toby out of prison. It was a pretty big explosion, after all. A few reporters had offered quite a bit for the rights to their story. But unbeknownst to Kayla, it was her best friend to whom the bigger story belonged to.
  7. Kayla did not know that Toby was a secret member of the Earth Liberation Front, and that that explosion was no accident.
  8. Sadly, all the test rabbits were killed, so they couldn't be freed. But fuck it, they'd made a statement.
  9. When they finally let go of their embrace, Kayla and Toby walked hand-in-hand toward the lake that held most of their secrets. They walked past some of the other campers and some of the staff. It was a perfect day for some more devious planning.
  10. Toby led Kayla to the end of the dock, where he whispered into her ear. “No gods, no masters”, he intoned, as they pressed the button together.
  11. The dam at the end of the lake cracked, and began to crumble. The rumbling grew to a massive crescendo, and the hydroelectric plant that powered the whole city went dark. And from the darkness a sound reached their excited ears and burrowed deep into their minds.
  12. It was the sound of frustrated capitalists, their Keurig machines gone silent, and their Teslas going uncharged.
