  1. I'd like to start out by sharing what I really liked about it!
  2.
  3. Touko is completely in character, as is Genocider, and I can really feel your love for her character here!
  4. Her s-stutters can be hard to place sometimes, but you get them just right, and Genocider's monologuing at the beginning is surprisingly poetic and I feel like we don't see that side of Genocider enough because she's too busy having fun!
  5. She has all of Touko's literary skills despite not having her memory, iirc, because that's something that's become a sort of...automatic function wired in the brain?
  6.
  7. Touko blushing and getting flustered at any kind of praise is always endearing, and I like that you added that in! (Along with her habit of pushing her index fingers together)
  8.
  9. There is definitely the vibe of "this character is being written by someone who loves them deeply", and despite all of the critique I'm about to give, remember that that love shines through sincerely!
  10.
  11. Now, this critcism is meant entirely with good intentions, and because I'm someone that's bad at being mean, anyway, I feel like I'm being too harsh here so please tell me if I am and I apologize in advance.
  12.
  13. So the first thing I'd like to point out is...the monologuing at the beginning should be italicized, and I'm assuming it isn't because of the fact that pastebin doesn't let us keep italics.
  14.
  15. Style-wise, there's a bit of redundancy in that you keep mentioning the officers are following procedure and protocol--that's to be expected, and shouldn't need explaining.
  16. This is a fault a lot of writers have fallen into is overly explaining and adding in details and words that aren't completely necessary and yet don't add to the...written aesthetic, for lack of a better term.
  17.
  18. "An interview for protocol reasons" should be something more like "Standardized interview" or just "interview", since it's a given that officers interrogate and question anyone they bring in.
  19.
  20. Also "appears to be", "seems to be", and phrases like that aren't needed, either.
  21. For example, the sentence, "she seems familiar with this type of setting" could be something like, "this isn't the first time Touko has found herself in a holding cell".
  22.
  23. It's kinda like...when you're coloring and you blend too many crayons together and it creates that unsightly brown in some spots that you don't even notice until after the picture is on the fridge.
  24.
  25. Grammatically wise--which, I wouldn't worry about as much right now so much as focusing on style since the Oxford comma is, y'know, subject to all kinds of controversy.
  26. But commas before names, and when you'd internally take a pause, are always important and something to keep in mind.
  27.
  28. While it isn't a major issue...is Greenview an actual town in the DR universe? I don't remember it being mentioned, but it sounds kinda out of place considering DR is Japanese in setting and locale (along with some of the officers' names).
  29.
  30. Overall, the best way to improve your style and develop one unique to yourself is to read as much as you write and to just keep writing.
  31.
  32. Please don't let anything I've said discourage you!
  33.
  34. Leveling up your skills and racking up EXP to do so takes time and it can't be achieved overnight! Touko spent years and years writing and reading to get to where she's at with being such a pro in her field, remember!
  35. And it took lots of trauma and isolation and sadness to bury herself in her work entirely which...isn't recommended for inflicting upon yourself, haha.
  36. But most importantly, it takes time, patience, and a love for the art!
  37.
  38. (If you want some cringe humor or something to make you feel better, I'll let you look at my Naruto fanfictions from 2005 when I was twelve and in love with Sasuke...talk about EXP grinding, that was over 1,000 pages on notebook paper at first )
  39.
  40. Overall, this is good considering you mentioned (iirc) that you're new to writing, and you shouldn't be discouraged at all!
  41.
  42. I would very much like to continue reading your work and providing whatever feedback and help I can!
