  1. (06:56:53 AM) Syd: I might give it another minute or two, like Cheeseness said, to give people time to join.
  2. (06:57:02 AM) Syd: But it's starting very soon
  3. (06:57:04 AM) GameClubFan_307785 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  4. (06:57:08 AM) Gins: ok
  5. (06:57:14 AM) GameClubFan_218271 [558340aa@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  6. (06:57:19 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I enjoyed all three paths. Although I found the solo path the most challenging.
  7. (06:57:26 AM) Kwi: If only for Arnold, the singing Nazi.
  8. (06:57:31 AM) salty_horse [ori@hide-6ED40E87.red.bezeqint.net] entered the room.
  9. (06:57:33 AM) Cheeseness: So Hal Barwood said he'll try to make it. Keep an eye out for him here in chat!
  10. (06:57:36 AM) [sheep]: i remember solo as almost impossible
  11. (06:57:39 AM) GameClubFan_527454 [1804abe7@hide-B64552F4.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  12. (06:57:41 AM) Gins: i don't remember which one i liked most anymore :o
  13. (06:57:47 AM) Gins: but i think i played the team path last.
  14. (06:57:48 AM) Starker [5abe1845@hide-B64552F4.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  15. (06:57:49 AM) B [58b7cfb5@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  16. (06:57:49 AM) Danaroth: I think the team path was the most satisfying to me
  17. (06:57:53 AM) GameClubFan_956321 [580c4270@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  18. (06:57:54 AM) Lanas: oh, so he is maybe coming?
  19. (06:57:54 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: That Nazi surely knew how to punch.
  20. (06:57:55 AM) GameClubFan_956321 left the room (quit: Quit: GameClubFan_956321).
  21. (06:58:07 AM) Gins: i liked the "push sofia" puzzle in the team path
  22. (06:58:08 AM) Syd: Hi all the people that just joined, we'll be starting in just a minute.
  23. (06:58:13 AM) Cheeseness: Lanas: Fingers crossed :)

  30. (06:58:43 AM) Cheeseness: Noah Falstein also tweeted about it
  31. (06:58:45 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I would preffered something more along the lines of "pick up sofia"
  32. (06:58:58 AM) Syd: Okay, let's get this rolling. Starting in just a moment!
  33. (06:59:02 AM) [sheep]: pull sofia's finger
  34. (06:59:11 AM) Kwi: The interactions with Sophia definitely makes "team" the most interesting path, IMO.

  36. (06:59:13 AM) Permafry_42: k back =D

  39. (06:59:32 AM) Danaroth: I think some freeware game made a joke about a "pick up girl" thing and got a lot of backlash because of sexist undertone =P
  40. (06:59:39 AM) yama: The stream is on!
  41. (06:59:44 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Sofia wasn't exactly the most charming woman either.

  48. (07:00:10 AM) Cheeseness: Mine :D

  69. (07:01:16 AM) salty_horse: So, did the voice actor try to impersonate Ford on purpose? :)
  70. (07:01:25 AM) Starker left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  71. (07:01:26 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Hi everyone

  85. (07:02:06 AM) Hal: In those days, getting Harrison would have cost more than the entire budget for the game. Nope, we didn't.
  86. (07:02:09 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: who did Indys Voice acting ?
  87. (07:02:11 AM) GameClubFan_682197 [560c34b5@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.

  92. (07:02:39 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hi Me Hal !
  93. (07:02:45 AM) Cheeseness: Hal: Was writing/designing for voices a challenge over catering for text dialogue?
  94. (07:02:51 AM) Bronsky: Fate of Atlantis must had to be the fourth film instead that skull thing
  95. (07:02:52 AM) GameClubFan_818629 [5084c7d4@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  96. (07:02:55 AM) Gins: i wish more modern adventure games were like this, in giving you essentially 3 different games for the price of one
  97. (07:02:56 AM) Danaroth: such fantastic memories with this game; still looks great
  98. (07:02:57 AM) Permafry_42: i love the pauses in between his falling and getting back up
  99. (07:03:01 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Hello Mr. Barwood!
  100. (07:03:11 AM) Gins: plus all the alternative puzzle solutions you can do within the 3 paths
  101. (07:03:16 AM) salty_horse: What was behind the indea of a "cold opening" credits sequence? It's rather unique
  102. (07:03:19 AM) Calain [5fd0d341@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  103. (07:03:20 AM) salty_horse: Cheeseness, pick the correct door!

  108. (07:03:40 AM) Lanas: [22:07] <Bronsky> Fate of Atlantis must had to be the fourth film instead that skull thing
  109. (07:03:46 AM) GameClubFan_258082 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  110. (07:03:48 AM) salty_horse: Cheeseness, :D
  111. (07:03:49 AM) GameClubFan_471803: only one of the last puzzles the keep turning the 3 circles till you got the correct one
  112. (07:03:49 AM) Lanas: i couldn't agree more
  113. (07:03:50 AM) Lanas: :)
  114. (07:03:58 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Gins: You did have some option path in The Dig too.
  115. (07:03:59 AM) Hal: The opening -- we wanted to make the titles interactive .. we sorta did
  116. (07:04:02 AM) Lanas: hi hal
  117. (07:04:03 AM) Permafry_42: there is no such thing as a 4th indy movie
  118. (07:04:06 AM) Gins: Lanas: i agree! i always imagined how it would be the 4th movie
  119. (07:04:06 AM) GameClubFan_373253: ron gilbert yeaaah
  120. (07:04:07 AM) Cheeseness: Was this the second iMuse title?
  121. (07:04:09 AM) Lanas: great introduction
  122. (07:04:11 AM) Permafry_42: it never happened
  123. (07:04:22 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Hal: what did you think of Crystal Skull?
  124. (07:04:24 AM) Hal: No, it never happened!
  125. (07:04:28 AM) Gins: for the movie, the team path probably would have worked best
  126. (07:04:30 AM) Voodoo_Lord: :D
  127. (07:04:31 AM) GameClubFan_631226 [50d9306b@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  128. (07:04:45 AM) Gins: (or they should have made 3 movies, one for each path)
  129. (07:05:02 AM) Hal: I like the voices overall, but in retrospect I find the Nazi's too sneering
  130. (07:05:05 AM) GameClubFan_818629: What music is that? Sound different from soundblaster.
  131. (07:05:06 AM) salty_horse: nice close-ups
  132. (07:05:06 AM) [sheep]: this is better than a movie
  133. (07:05:07 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I can't remember in wich other LucasArts game there was a character called Barwood.
  134. (07:05:13 AM) AnnoySumo [4de6b70f@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  135. (07:05:14 AM) Syd: MT-32
  136. (07:05:30 AM) Hal: Me neither
  137. (07:05:32 AM) Lanas: everybody dit. They couldn't have lost with that coice. Old fans would be delighted. And people who don't know it woul have had agreat story
  138. (07:05:34 AM) Kwi: Kerner's voice is a bit over the top, but it sort of works. :)
  139. (07:05:42 AM) salty_horse: Wasn't there a movie script based on Fate of Atlantis?
  140. (07:05:55 AM) Gins: as a native german speaker, the fake accents bother me a bit :3
  141. (07:05:56 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Well, Indy's nazis always have been over the top, so it fits
  142. (07:06:17 AM) Permafry_42: That said, if jj abrams does star wars right than there might a 7th star wars movie
  143. (07:06:21 AM) Gins: but it's excused
  144. (07:06:26 AM) Hal: No movie script, no movie, George and Steve would never make a movie from other material
  145. (07:06:45 AM) GameClubFan_658912 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  146. (07:07:13 AM) Voodoo_Lord: It seems like a bad idea to make the 4th movie with a story a lot of people already know, anyway
  147. (07:07:17 AM) GameClubFan_682197 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  148. (07:07:21 AM) GameClubFan_818629: Ah. I thought that it´s MT32. But didn´t heard it before.
  149. (07:07:34 AM) Gins: i'd expect only the minority of the indiana jones movie audience to have played this game.
  150. (07:07:38 AM) Permafry_42: @Hal how did it feel to get to make a game based on the second best movie series of all time?
  151. (07:07:39 AM) salty_horse: Hal, you had film background before working on the game (Close Encounters...?). Do you think that experience helped the game?
  152. (07:07:41 AM) Hal: Hey, here comes our first excursion into the wide world
  153. (07:07:49 AM) GameClubFan_818629: Long time since I played Indy 4 every Saturday. lol
  154. (07:07:59 AM) OzzieMonkey [3cf0f13c@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  155. (07:08:03 AM) Cheeseness: The game presents a more cerebral Indy than the movie (or give you insight into his thoughtful inner dialogue?). I really appreciate that
  156. (07:08:08 AM) Hal: Yes, making movies helped. But I also had a background in games -- that helped even more
  157. (07:08:08 AM) Gins: i love the design in this part btw, good job
  158. (07:08:18 AM) Hal: Thanks
  159. (07:08:26 AM) [sheep]: that ticket lady sounded familiar
  160. (07:08:32 AM) Gins: for each type of player, a different way to solve this small puzzle
  161. (07:08:43 AM) salty_horse: no fisty cuffs!
  162. (07:08:56 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Besides there was this "Young Indiana Jones" Series about that time , right ?
  163. (07:09:03 AM) Judith left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  164. (07:09:03 AM) Gins: more games should have taken this IndyQuotient approach to the puzzle designs
  165. (07:09:11 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Oh god that series
  166. (07:09:11 AM) SirLemonhead [5f2ca4fb@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  167. (07:09:14 AM) Prrmjau [4e48160f@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  168. (07:09:15 AM) Hal: Now we call IQ points
  169. (07:09:16 AM) Voodoo_Lord: how can you make Indy so boring
  170. (07:09:17 AM) GameClubFan_461053 [50eb89fa@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  171. (07:09:18 AM) Judith [45a51168@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  172. (07:09:19 AM) Hal: achievements"
  173. (07:09:28 AM) GameClubFan_893841 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  174. (07:09:29 AM) AnnoySumo: has the way you solve this puzzle any effect on the path recommendation? I seem to recall so
  175. (07:09:39 AM) eriktorbjorn [51ead107@hide-B64552F4.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  176. (07:09:41 AM) OzzieMonkey: Damn, this game is good. Definitely in my top 10 games. I'll be interested to see which path this goes down
  177. (07:09:45 AM) Gins: i think i recall something like this too
  178. (07:09:48 AM) Hal: Yeah, if you fight, Sophia is going to receommend the fists path
  179. (07:09:59 AM) Hectate: i need to go back and finish it, hah
  180. (07:10:04 AM) salty_horse: I didn't know that path...
  181. (07:10:05 AM) Danaroth: I love the casual clothes here; was unexpected for kiddy me to play an indy without his suit back then =P
  182. (07:10:08 AM) salty_horse: INFODUMP TIME!!!
  183. (07:10:11 AM) GameClubFan_818629: How can I change my name here?
  184. (07:10:21 AM) Hal: But we realized we coul;dn't allow a hidden key -- so it's just a recommendation
  185. (07:10:24 AM) salty_horse: gameClubFan_*, try /nick YOUR_NEW_NAME
  186. (07:10:29 AM) Cheeseness: type /nick new_nickname
  187. (07:10:34 AM) Hal: congratz on quickly getting in to the show so quick
  188. (07:10:35 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: The key disks puzzles were really fascinating
  189. (07:10:43 AM) GameClubFan_818629 is now known as Sven_Q45
  190. (07:10:54 AM) GameClubFan_218271 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  191. (07:11:05 AM) GameClubFan_389553 [25fb2e5c@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  192. (07:11:07 AM) GameClubFan_335184 [55179a86@hide-B64552F4.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  193. (07:11:15 AM) Cheeseness: @Hal: Syd has been practicing for today to make sure we can give a good, smooth experience ^_^
  194. (07:11:21 AM) salty_horse: Hal, did you originally try to pass of all of this information in a more .. interesting way.. than a lecture?
  195. (07:11:26 AM) Hal: In their day, the disk things were a nightmare for our support group -- more calls on this than any other puzzle. Nowadays adventure games are full of these little minigames
  196. (07:11:33 AM) Lanas: what is that IndyQuotient?
  197. (07:11:34 AM) Sven_Q45: Ah better now.
  198. (07:11:47 AM) RUBICN64 [Android@7DA2B63F:50D2DD52:B5035934:IP] entered the room.
  199. (07:11:53 AM) salty_horse: Lanas, points you get like in Sierra games. a hotkey lets you see it (it replaces the inventory)
  200. (07:11:55 AM) RUBICN64: hey all
  201. (07:11:58 AM) Cheeseness: Hey RUBICN64
  202. (07:12:01 AM) Prrmjau left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  203. (07:12:02 AM) Gins: one of the best things about the multiple-solutions approach in this game is that if you play this game multiple times, it's always a new experience, because instead of just doing the same things again you did the last walkthrough you try to find a new solution
  204. (07:12:11 AM) Prrmjau [4e48160f@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  205. (07:12:20 AM) Gins: even if you already found all solutions, you wouldn't know, so it still keeps you on your toes
  206. (07:12:21 AM) Solospieler [d5c4d3d8@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  207. (07:12:24 AM) Hal: No, we needed some exposition, and if it hides in a lecture, that's better than explaining it to Indy himself
  208. (07:12:31 AM) Prrmjau left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  209. (07:12:36 AM) Lanas: can't remember that
  210. (07:12:36 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: I dunno why that reminded my the Monkey Island 2 support group in joke.
  211. (07:12:40 AM) Prrmjau [4e48160f@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  212. (07:12:40 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Hal: did you read the comic adaption of Fate? If I remember, they made the atlantians aliens there
  213. (07:12:47 AM) Danaroth: I suppose that has taken a lot of development time; it seems really indepth compared to other games
  214. (07:12:49 AM) Permafry_42: isn't there supposed to be some greek sunken island that people think is atlantis?
  215. (07:13:00 AM) Gins: Voodoo_Lord: so atlantis DID get made into the 4th movie :3
  216. (07:13:09 AM) Hal: I wrote those comic books -- it was still supernatural -- but a lot like aliens
  217. (07:13:09 AM) davidfitt: Voodoo_Lord: where to find this comic adaptation?
  218. (07:13:12 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Maybe some GDC Post-mortem someday
  219. (07:13:14 AM) Voodoo_Lord: It's the 4th movie done right
  220. (07:13:20 AM) GameClubFan_389553 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  221. (07:13:25 AM) Voodoo_Lord: davidfitt: I found the TP copy on ebay

  227. (07:13:41 AM) Kwi: Aliens? I thought the theme was human hybris? :P
  228. (07:13:43 AM) davidfitt: ok!
  229. (07:13:50 AM) GameClubFan_071316 [558340aa@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  230. (07:13:52 AM) Hal: It's a little past its sell-by date for a postmortem
  231. (07:14:05 AM) Cheeseness: "INDIANA JONES?"
  232. (07:14:06 AM) Cheeseness: :D
  233. (07:14:14 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I only read the Budda Manuscript one
  234. (07:14:17 AM) GameClubFan_461053 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  235. (07:14:32 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Kwi: IIRC, they changed that in the comic
  236. (07:14:33 AM) Hal: Not Jones himself, but the game. I've done 2 others since then, and different studios made even more
  237. (07:14:33 AM) Cheeseness: RUBICN64: It's today! The stream's going at the moment if you don't have the Game Club page open
  238. (07:14:36 AM) RUBICN64: I have most of the SCUMM games on ScummVM on my tablet
  239. (07:14:42 AM) RUBICN64: oh
  240. (07:14:51 AM) Hal: Go SCUMM VM
  241. (07:15:13 AM) yama: Hal, you mentioned puzzles in other games, do you play adventure games? ^^
  242. (07:15:13 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Where did the Lost Dialogues of Plato and the Plato's tenfold error ideas came from ?
  243. (07:15:28 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Talking about things done right, Infernal Machine did the whole Communists thing way better than the 4th movie
  244. (07:15:29 AM) Hal: Looking at this, I just wish LucaArts had updated the graphics as in Monkey ISland before they collapsed
  245. (07:15:32 AM) Cheeseness: I really like the way that ScummVM has allowed these titles to continue to retain popularity enough to get new players playing an expose markets for stuff like the steam releases of these games
  246. (07:15:46 AM) Hal: Thanks -- I agree about the IM commies
  247. (07:15:47 AM) Permafry_42: yeah i recently found a collection of scummvm games on craigslist, so now i have a whole bunch of games to play using scummvm
  248. (07:16:09 AM) Danaroth: was there an indy hd planned other than a dott hd or just speculation?
  249. (07:16:13 AM) Hal: Notice that this "interactive dialog" isn't really a puzzle -- it just keeps the clicks going
  250. (07:16:14 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: John Romero and Tom Hall did a Post-Mortem on Doom on GDC 2012 ...
  251. (07:16:23 AM) salty_horse: Hasn't Indy learned anything, after encountering the Ark of the Covenant?
  252. (07:16:26 AM) Permafry_42: I'm only 18, so i haven't been able to play a lot of the lucas arts games yet
  253. (07:16:33 AM) Hal: John will do anything
  254. (07:16:38 AM) Kwi: A graphics update would've been awesome, if difficult due to the photo-realistic look.
  255. (07:16:42 AM) Syd: She changes clothes quickly
  256. (07:16:54 AM) Gins: i like the style like it is
  257. (07:17:03 AM) Gins: i don't think you could easily recapture it in HD
  258. (07:17:03 AM) Hectate: i loved guybrush threepwoods walk animation; the ORIGINAL. So quirky
  259. (07:17:10 AM) Hal: Yeah, I actually had to take into account that IJ has become something of a believer and not a dopey skeptic
  260. (07:17:14 AM) OzzieMonkey: the hardest part to redo as proven by MI2's special edition is the iMuse programming, they really messed that up
  261. (07:17:18 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Oh god this scene
  262. (07:17:21 AM) salty_horse: the interface is shakiiing!
  263. (07:17:27 AM) Voodoo_Lord: that and the "BOMBS" scene always scared me a little as a kid
  264. (07:17:28 AM) Hal: Wow, I sure wish we had a particle system for VFX
  265. (07:17:32 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: LOL !
  266. (07:17:39 AM) Gins: oh btw, i think in those closeups you can examine her chest, right?
  267. (07:17:49 AM) RUBICN64: I hear DotT was going to get a remake before it got the axe
  268. (07:17:52 AM) salty_horse: Gins, I did not err notice
  269. (07:17:53 AM) Kwi left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  270. (07:17:57 AM) Gins: maybe not

  272. (07:18:02 AM) Gins: idk maybe i'm imagining things
  273. (07:18:11 AM) Hal: No "examinations" please
  274. (07:18:11 AM) OzzieMonkey: RUBICN64: Yeah, 80% done or something
  275. (07:18:13 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Although Is actually Tom Hall the start of that talk in GDC ...
  276. (07:18:18 AM) Hectate: jazz hands
  277. (07:18:19 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: *star
  278. (07:18:56 AM) Danaroth: I still wonder why that dott hd wasn't officially greenlit by the high-ups but still got to 80% completition =P
  279. (07:19:03 AM) Hal: Off to ICeland
  280. (07:19:03 AM) Sven_Q45: No. I liked the MI special editions. But it can´t approach the old graphics of MI 1, 2 and Indy 4.
  281. (07:19:03 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Bjorn makes a cameo, yeah!
  282. (07:19:09 AM) Gins: :(
  283. (07:19:15 AM) Gins: 80% completion makes me sad

  286. (07:19:44 AM) Gins: those 20% extra would have cost them more then than they'd have made by selling it
  287. (07:19:50 AM) jdw: worst accent in the game :o
  288. (07:19:55 AM) Hal: Several LEC games got to 80% or so ... tragedy
  289. (07:19:57 AM) [sheep]: gew awaat
  290. (07:20:01 AM) Sven_Q45: 80%? Wow didn´t know that! The same thing like Sam and Max...
  291. (07:20:21 AM) Danaroth: how far was the fate of atlantis sequel? =P
  292. (07:20:22 AM) OzzieMonkey: I think Freelance Police was ready to ship before it got cancelled
  293. (07:20:24 AM) Permafry_42: glad to see so many people chatting today =D
  294. (07:20:25 AM) SirLemonhead: damn ghooosts
  295. (07:20:35 AM) Skardrup: That accent
  296. (07:20:38 AM) Hal: I want everyone to know that I personally did NOT direct the voice actors. *Sigh*
  297. (07:20:42 AM) Skardrup: where is it even from
  298. (07:20:44 AM) SirLemonhead: farce fields :( haha yeah that accent is great
  299. (07:20:47 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I liked "Freelance Police" carttons though ...
  300. (07:20:48 AM) Voodoo_Lord: haha :D
  301. (07:20:54 AM) GameClubFan_373253: why Hal its pretty good actually
  302. (07:20:54 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: *carttons
  303. (07:20:54 AM) salty_horse: Hal, have you tried the fangame Fountain of Youth? It was never finished. Was done in the same style as Fate of Atlantis: http://www.barnettcollege.com/
  304. (07:20:57 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: *cartoons
  305. (07:21:02 AM) SirSlade: Hey, the voice acting isn't *that* bad. Especially for the time
  306. (07:21:06 AM) OzzieMonkey left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  307. (07:21:14 AM) davidfitt: salty_horse: it's still being developped
  308. (07:21:14 AM) Voodoo_Lord: I actually like this, makes me giggle
  309. (07:21:14 AM) Gins: the voices are good enough for this game, i think
  310. (07:21:16 AM) Gins: most are good
  311. (07:21:23 AM) salty_horse: davidfitt, !!! :D
  312. (07:21:25 AM) SirSlade: I remember playing some older games, like Crusader: No Remorse with live action cut scenses. some of the acting was... not so stellar
  313. (07:21:26 AM) SirLemonhead: his accent is all over the place
  314. (07:21:34 AM) [sheep]: is this the voice of dr. edison?
  315. (07:21:35 AM) Guest55347 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  316. (07:21:39 AM) Hal: No -- I'm not really in favor of fan games -- do something new, and I'll jump
  317. (07:21:39 AM) SirLemonhead: sounds like a bad irish impersonation in places
  318. (07:21:41 AM) Skardrup: oh it's ok. I'd just like to know where its supposedly from
  319. (07:21:44 AM) Voodoo_Lord: davidfitt: when a fangame takes that long, it usually means it's done for
  320. (07:22:03 AM) jdw: yeah, this is just poor relative to the rest. There’s also the dialogue line ‘I don’t wanna land in the open sea’ too, repeated too much :/
  321. (07:22:03 AM) Skardrup: im just imagining his mouth move as he talks
  322. (07:22:03 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I guess Erbe's spanish voice dubbing were worse than that
  323. (07:22:13 AM) davidfitt: well, the facebook page is still being updated ant they put an ingame video one month ago
  324. (07:22:18 AM) SirLemonhead: oh this is the fan "remake" of DOTT you guys are talking about?
  325. (07:22:24 AM) Cheeseness: @Hal: Would you like to do another Indy adventure if the opportunity arose?
  326. (07:22:38 AM) AnnoySumo: There wasn't a spanish voice dubbing for FOTA
  327. (07:22:52 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Voodoo_Lord: You mean more like "The 13th Doll" ?
  328. (07:22:55 AM) Hal: I'm interested in adventure games -- they seem to be making a mild comeback -- but not an Indy -- enough already
  329. (07:23:00 AM) SirLemonhead: Oh i see now
  330. (07:23:03 AM) salty_horse: the Lost Dialogues of Plato remind me of Aristotle's lost book on comedy (mentioned in the Name of the Rose)
  331. (07:23:03 AM) Sven_Q45: @OzzieMonkey Sad day. I was on vacation and really the whole vacation I was looking forward to Sam and Max and when I came home the first e-mail I read was that Sam and Max was cancelled.
  332. (07:23:12 AM) OzzieMonkey [3cf0f13c@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  333. (07:23:16 AM) Kwi: Yeah, two Indy movies and a game is surely enough. :)
  334. (07:23:21 AM) SirLemonhead: I thought you guys were talking about a lucasarts made remake that they cancelled themselves
  335. (07:23:29 AM) jdw: only one I didnt play was desktop adventures, floppy was broken :(
  336. (07:23:34 AM) salty_horse: nice monkey island-ish music and setting
  337. (07:23:35 AM) Hal: Yeah, I later read that book and I thought, wow, parallel ideas
  338. (07:23:44 AM) Voodoo_Lord: There's no "enough Indy" for me :P

  340. (07:23:51 AM) Voodoo_Lord: except for the movies, enough of those
  341. (07:23:58 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Voodoo_Lord: At least Trilobyte is already making a third "The 7th Guest" saga game
  342. (07:24:00 AM) Hal: You can still play desktop adventures -- it's available on my website: www.finitearts.com
  343. (07:24:12 AM) Skardrup: uh oh a snake!
  344. (07:24:13 AM) elq left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  345. (07:24:14 AM) Gins: i liked the way the actor said "i hate snakes"
  346. (07:24:18 AM) SirLemonhead: oh you were. haha
  347. (07:24:18 AM) Hal: Hey, someone has been studying up -- you guys are blasting through this thing
  348. (07:24:23 AM) Voodoo_Lord: The_Mad_Pirate: It's not an iron rule, but it usually goes like that
  349. (07:24:28 AM) Gins: almost like the actor himself hates them :3
  350. (07:24:48 AM) Kwi: Poor rodent.
  351. (07:24:48 AM) Skardrup: brutAL
  352. (07:24:49 AM) Hal: Ouch
  353. (07:24:54 AM) Sven_Q45: @Voodoo_Lord Me too. The best thing would be a new Indy game! :)
  354. (07:24:55 AM) salty_horse: there's nothing like an indiana jones audio cue to know you've done something right :)
  355. (07:24:56 AM) Voodoo_Lord: I have the original floppy of DA :D
  356. (07:24:57 AM) SirSlade: Was that a capybara?
  357. (07:24:58 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Man , thanks !
  358. (07:25:02 AM) Gins: yes!
  359. (07:25:05 AM) Permafry_42: @Cheeseness you should change the twitch stream to indy foa since it still says we're streaming costume quest
  360. (07:25:11 AM) Hal: Yes, capybara
  361. (07:25:17 AM) Gins: interestingly, the very first indiana jones audio cue i ever got for solving a puzzle was in monkey island
  362. (07:25:20 AM) SirSlade: Sweet. Poor thing
  363. (07:25:25 AM) Syd: Cheeseness, think you can try to take care of that?
  364. (07:25:34 AM) Cheeseness: Oh yeah, I can sort that. Give me two secs
  365. (07:25:40 AM) Cheeseness: Something always slips through the cracks >_<

  367. (07:25:49 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Well , I did kinda liked "Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine" except , the Tibetan Level was imposible to pass.
  368. (07:25:50 AM) salty_horse: Hal, so did LucasArts send the art team on a trip around the world for reference? :)
  369. (07:25:51 AM) Gins: so when i was a kid, i thought indiana jones took the sound from monkey island..
  370. (07:25:54 AM) Skardrup left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  371. (07:26:03 AM) jdw: my bad, I was keeping him busy with a game of Worms.
  372. (07:26:04 AM) Kwi: Man, this takes me back.
  373. (07:26:12 AM) Hal: Get rid of that jerk Sternhard -- oh, heh heh, he'll get his!

  376. (07:26:43 AM) Voodoo_Lord: I just love these backgrounds
  377. (07:26:48 AM) Voodoo_Lord: really really love them
  378. (07:26:54 AM) Hal: No trips except to the Lost Myesteries of the World coffee table books
  379. (07:26:58 AM) salty_horse: Gins, ah, the joys of being introduced to things in odd orders :)
  380. (07:27:04 AM) Gins: who painted those again?
  381. (07:27:05 AM) Kwi: @Voodoo_Lord: Agreed.
  382. (07:27:18 AM) Cheeseness: jdw: I've got an IRC meeting with some of the Neverball devs happening at the moment. Feeling stretched pretty thin >_<
  383. (07:27:22 AM) salty_horse: Gins, I'm guessing Purcell is one :)
  384. (07:27:33 AM) Gins: everything purcell draws is magic
  385. (07:27:38 AM) Hal: Backgrounds -- by some of the lesser artists at LucasArts
  386. (07:28:14 AM) Judith: Hmf. There were no lesser artists at LucasArts!
  387. (07:28:15 AM) salty_horse: credits: https://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/indiana-jones-and-the-fate-of-atlantis/credits
  388. (07:28:17 AM) Hal: Steve didn't work on Fate. But he recently helped write the Pixar movie, Brave
  389. (07:28:18 AM) AnnoySumo: If those were the lesser artits, the talent at LucasArts was incredible at the time
  390. (07:28:18 AM) Danaroth: I wish I was such a lesser artist =p
  391. (07:28:31 AM) Cheeseness: There we go. Stream details updated
  392. (07:28:35 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Hal: I remember there was some cut content from this game, like a location. Why was that?
  393. (07:28:44 AM) Hal: Ron and Tim got all the best artists
  394. (07:28:52 AM) salty_horse: a carmen santiago moment ? :)

  400. (07:29:26 AM) yama: Oh yeah, I was thinking about this earlier. Were multipe games being made at the same time at LucasArts?
  401. (07:29:32 AM) Gins: yea saint petersburg is expensive...
  402. (07:29:34 AM) salty_horse: that temple doesn't feel to scale :)
  403. (07:29:48 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Hal: I see! :) What was supposed to be in there?
  404. (07:29:56 AM) jdw: for the closeups, skin tone much better than the monkey isle faces
  405. (07:30:01 AM) Hectate: "Walk this way" always good for a joke
  406. (07:30:10 AM) Hal: Yes, Monkey ISland 2, plus Holland's flight sims
  407. (07:30:39 AM) yama: Hal, ah-ha. That's what I thought but I wasn't sure. :)
  408. (07:30:40 AM) Hop: The twitch page says they're playing Costume Quest... I forgot about IRC until I realized nobody was talking on twitch... lol
  409. (07:30:43 AM) Hal: A librarian and a book clue
  410. (07:30:49 AM) [sheep]: classic team adventure game moment
  411. (07:31:01 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Wass Aaron on the FoA Team ?
  412. (07:31:05 AM) yama: Hop, the title was just changed to display Indy instead. :)
  413. (07:31:13 AM) salty_horse: Hal, given this was developed alongside Monkey Island 2, did you share advances in the SCUMM engine? For example, did one team need some kind of effect that the other team add to their game because it looked cool?
  414. (07:31:16 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Hal: Thanks for answering! :D
  415. (07:31:18 AM) Hop: excellent :-)
  416. (07:31:36 AM) Hal: Aaron who?
  417. (07:31:41 AM) AnnoySumo: I always gave him the lamp back
  418. (07:32:01 AM) Gins: btw, it's interesting to observe:
  419. (07:32:02 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Sorry I mean Mr. Wilmunder.
  420. (07:32:09 AM) Hal: Yes, the MI2 team developed the inventory icon system. They weren't going to let us use it, but I -- ahem -- insisted
  421. (07:32:13 AM) salty_horse: what was that hack doing in that temple for so long? :D
  422. (07:32:16 AM) Gins: the prof is really astonished when he sees you using the lamp
  423. (07:32:26 AM) Gins: but he didn't want to give you the lamp
  424. (07:32:37 AM) Kwi: Damn Sternhart and his convenient secret door.
  425. (07:32:40 AM) OzzieMonkey: that bead requires expert pixel hunting to pick up
  426. (07:32:41 AM) Gins: if you would be able to explain to him what you need it for, he'd give it to you judging by his reaction
  427. (07:32:42 AM) Hal: Aric was one of the SCUMM developers -- we made some revisions to the previous versions of the engine
  428. (07:32:51 AM) Gins: but that would have spoiled the puzzle :p
  429. (07:32:52 AM) davidfitt: a secret door in an old temple, always made me laugh
  430. (07:32:56 AM) salty_horse: Hal, good call. it's much more immersive! I still can't play Last Crusade due to all the text
  431. (07:33:21 AM) Hal: Usually I hate pixel hunting, but like animal puzzles, all adventure games seem to have them
  432. (07:33:22 AM) Kwi: @davidfitt: It's Indiana Jones, of course there's a secret door in the temple! :)
  433. (07:33:30 AM) jdw: who designed the skulls later on, and were they considered scary at the time? They certainly wigged me out back then.
  434. (07:33:39 AM) Hal: Quick trip to ICeland
  435. (07:33:53 AM) salty_horse: indy not being very sympathetic to a colleague's grisly death
  436. (07:33:53 AM) Gins: i wonder how he froze
  437. (07:34:01 AM) Gins: considering the door is just a few meters away
  438. (07:34:05 AM) Hal: Can;t remember which guy did the skulls
  439. (07:34:08 AM) Fireflower [51aa84ce@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  440. (07:34:11 AM) SirLemonhead: We'll never get to hear him speak again :(
  441. (07:34:15 AM) Fireflower: Hey
  442. (07:34:20 AM) Kwi: I found this scene frightening as well, when I played this as a kid. They are very coy, considering the dead guy in the room. :)
  443. (07:34:22 AM) Hectate: he might have died, and THEN froze...
  444. (07:34:24 AM) Hal: Indy unsympathetic? He's a cool customer
  445. (07:34:25 AM) salty_horse: ominous icelandic sky
  446. (07:34:25 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Goodbye Bjorn, your accent will be missed
  447. (07:34:33 AM) Permafry_42: love the vista here
  448. (07:34:39 AM) Gins: yea, this looks great
  449. (07:34:44 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Agreed
  450. (07:34:44 AM) Gins: for lesser artists, at least ;)
  451. (07:34:46 AM) salty_horse: now this is the first time you get to play as Sophia
  452. (07:34:47 AM) Hal: Warmer now, less accent, I hope
  453. (07:34:50 AM) Sven_Q45 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  454. (07:35:10 AM) Hal: Go, Sophia
  455. (07:35:17 AM) OzzieMonkey: Has anyone here read the fan-made novelization of this game?
  456. (07:35:23 AM) Solospieler: Is this game based on true events?
  457. (07:35:32 AM) Sven_Q45 [5084c7d4@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  458. (07:35:40 AM) Hal: Turly fictional events, at least
  459. (07:35:40 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Yes
  460. (07:35:41 AM) salty_horse: Indy games can have more different world-spanning settings than Indy movies. Game backgrounds all cost the same
  461. (07:36:02 AM) salty_horse: OzzieMonkey, I only read a few Young Indiana Jones books
  462. (07:36:03 AM) Gins: green screen also costs the same
  463. (07:36:03 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Yeah it feels way more "wordly"
  464. (07:36:10 AM) Hal: Yes, the MI guys, including Ron, liked the globetrotting idea
  465. (07:36:10 AM) Sven_Q45: Rats! One click and I was kicked out.
  466. (07:36:15 AM) Kwi: If backgrounds are so cheap, why are we forced to stay outside Mr. Costa's house? :P
  467. (07:36:17 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Green screens usually look too fake tho
  468. (07:36:22 AM) salty_horse: Kwi, :D
  469. (07:36:37 AM) Hal: Backgrounds are cheap, but with 100 or so, you still have to be careful
  470. (07:36:38 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Well he IS an old perv
  471. (07:36:43 AM) salty_horse: I'm selling these fine leather jackets
  472. (07:36:44 AM) Voodoo_Lord: maybe he hides unsavory things
  473. (07:36:55 AM) Sven_Q45: @Hal Globetrotting adventures are the best! :)
  474. (07:37:06 AM) Gins: the leather jackets line was never in any of the movies, was it?
  475. (07:37:07 AM) Hal: Weird old guy, anyway
  476. (07:37:08 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Did you sit togther for braimstorming ideas ?
  477. (07:37:09 AM) Permafry_42: Anyone else thing the game broken sword was based on the indy games?
  478. (07:37:13 AM) Hal: And here comes the punch line
  479. (07:37:17 AM) jdw left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  480. (07:37:22 AM) Solospieler: I'm asking because there a documentaries about a nazi base in the antarctica
  481. (07:37:27 AM) Kwi: (On the other hand, there was the famous unused area next to Sophia's office, so...)
  482. (07:37:30 AM) salty_horse: Gins, I thought I was quoting the last crusade, but I meant "I'm here to see the tapestries"
  483. (07:37:51 AM) Gins: yes.
  484. (07:37:52 AM) Hal: I've met Steve Ince, and he certainly didn't own up to any inspiration
  485. (07:37:56 AM) Gins: that's what i think he said in the movie
  486. (07:38:18 AM) Gins: "I'm selling these fine leather jackets" has become one of my most recognizable indy quotes though
  487. (07:38:20 AM) Cheeseness: Fireflower: Remind me that I want to chat with you after Game Club
  488. (07:38:23 AM) Gins: so whoever came up with that, good job
  489. (07:38:26 AM) salty_horse: Hal, and have you met Dan Brown? :)
  490. (07:38:30 AM) Fireflower: ok Cheese
  491. (07:38:45 AM) Hal: No, but I've read all his books. Some good, some ... not so
  492. (07:38:51 AM) Voodoo_Lord: I always love when you can switch to another character
  493. (07:38:52 AM) salty_horse: Gins, so it's a famous misquote. like "play it again, sam" :)
  494. (07:39:02 AM) OzzieMonkey: Hal: Did you have any involvement in the action game of FoA?
  495. (07:39:07 AM) Gins: well indy did say it, just not in the movies
  496. (07:39:14 AM) Gins: (and again, first time i heard it was in monkey island)
  497. (07:39:21 AM) yama: Was this game voiced from the start or was that a later addition?
  498. (07:39:23 AM) Kwi: The Nazis were busily researching nuclear weapons, and had a fetish for the occult and supernatural, but I believe the overlap with reality ends there.
  499. (07:39:26 AM) Hal: No to action game -- it was developed in the UK
  500. (07:39:30 AM) Hectate: How conveinient!
  501. (07:39:37 AM) Cheeseness: @Hal: How long did it take to settle on Atlantis as the MacGuffin for this story? Were there others that were considered?
  502. (07:39:38 AM) Gins: only when indy was actually wearing a leather jacket, i realized he must have said it first
  503. (07:39:40 AM) Hectate: Barnett College, if only we knew in advance
  504. (07:39:42 AM) AnnoySumo: I love how the book is located in a different place each time
  505. (07:39:57 AM) Hal: Voice was added just as we released the original 7-disc floppy version.
  506. (07:39:59 AM) AnnoySumo: I was rather confused in my second playthrough
  507. (07:40:09 AM) LinuxChef: The professor from day of the tentacle
  508. (07:40:12 AM) salty_horse: why are they SO EVIL?
  509. (07:40:15 AM) [sheep]: knick knackkk
  510. (07:40:22 AM) Voodoo_Lord: I love this scene, pure Indy villany
  511. (07:40:27 AM) OzzieMonkey: I wonder how Indy would have reacted to finding Big Whoop? :p
  512. (07:40:31 AM) Hal: No one else in the company liked the random variation stuff -- fun for me, fun for players -- tough to test
  513. (07:40:44 AM) Fireflower: oh no
  514. (07:40:47 AM) GameClubFan_257715 [8d4c79a4@hide-B64552F4.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  515. (07:40:49 AM) Hal: Oh for some decent VFX!
  516. (07:40:49 AM) salty_horse: do germans like speaking English between each other? :D
  517. (07:40:55 AM) Gins: i liked these scene
  518. (07:41:03 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Wow ... Floppy Versions ... I still have my 15 dics Win95 Floppy version somewhere ....
  519. (07:41:06 AM) Gins: the figure looks so cute when it tanks around
  520. (07:41:06 AM) Kwi: @Hal: I can sympathize. Totally worth it, though.
  521. (07:41:09 AM) Hal: Well, I've worked in Germany, and ALL game developers seem to be as fluent as I am
  522. (07:41:15 AM) salty_horse: uranium without radioactivity seems very utopian. not EEVIIL
  523. (07:41:22 AM) Voodoo_Lord: BOMBS
  524. (07:41:31 AM) Hectate: step, line, step, line
  525. (07:41:44 AM) Voodoo_Lord: love that scene
  526. (07:41:48 AM) Voodoo_Lord: truly creepy
  527. (07:41:49 AM) Hal: Those wacky nazis
  528. (07:41:52 AM) OzzieMonkey: THINK AN ICE-CREAM TRUCK! Free ice-cream for the Nazis! :p
  529. (07:42:04 AM) Fireflower: how old were you when you made this game, Hal?
  530. (07:42:08 AM) Hectate: why is college scene music like graduation day music? Shouldn't it be more like Animal House?
  531. (07:42:19 AM) Solospieler: lol
  532. (07:42:23 AM) salty_horse: some of these scenes seem to have been a direct inspiration to the game Flight of the Amazon Queen (featured earlier in the Game Club?)
  533. (07:42:25 AM) Hal: Notice how backgrounds aren't so cheap -- we're busy getting use out of the credit sequence
  534. (07:42:51 AM) Hal: I've never seen Amazon Queen -- should I look?
  535. (07:42:56 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Amazon Queen was directly inspired by Indy in general I'd say
  536. (07:42:58 AM) Starker: The opening sequence was what really sold me on the game.
  537. (07:43:02 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Yes, I love it
  538. (07:43:04 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Still , Hand Drawn Backrgrounds were superb !
  539. (07:43:07 AM) Hectate: what kind of flow/pipeline was used for the art? What was used to create the backgrounds back then?
  540. (07:43:13 AM) Voodoo_Lord: way more comedic and fantastic than Indy, though
  541. (07:43:35 AM) Voodoo_Lord: For example, you get to chit chat with the Grim Reaper itself :P
  542. (07:43:38 AM) Sven_Q45: Amazon Queen was funny.
  543. (07:43:44 AM) OzzieMonkey: I love the way the iMuse transitions flow in the opening especially, a perfect introduction to the music system in this game
  544. (07:43:44 AM) Hal: A DOS paint program. We just missed having a scanner, which cost around $5K at the time
  545. (07:43:49 AM) Gins: the billboard was funny as i recall
  546. (07:43:49 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Spudd , Spitt , Scumm ....
  547. (07:43:53 AM) Gins: lots of references
  548. (07:43:54 AM) Fireflower: how long does it take to make a background?
  549. (07:43:57 AM) Hal: This was the first serious iMuse game
  550. (07:43:58 AM) OzzieMonkey: speaking of which, is this the MT-32 being emulated here?
  551. (07:44:03 AM) salty_horse: Hal, it's good and cheesy. A good pulp adventure with a bit of magic. Available for free on the ScummVM website.
  552. (07:44:16 AM) Kwi: Amazon Queen makes Indy 4's nuclear fridge look dull and realistic. :P
  553. (07:44:19 AM) Hal: I"ll check it out
  554. (07:44:28 AM) yama: Hal, so LEC got a scanner for MI2 but not for Indy?
  555. (07:44:46 AM) Hal: That's about the size of it
  556. (07:45:00 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: It was mentioned that Steve Purcell used a Mac Paintbrush version for creating guy.brush.
  557. (07:45:04 AM) Permafry_42 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  558. (07:45:05 AM) OzzieMonkey: haha, I love how they had subtitles for the Gloop :p
  559. (07:45:07 AM) salty_horse: Is it common for universities to have so many archived, unknown treasures in them?
  560. (07:45:23 AM) Permafry_42 [46469094@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  561. (07:45:24 AM) Hal: Look at that -- Zelda-esque pushing & pulling!
  562. (07:45:43 AM) davidfitt: the music is really great right now
  563. (07:45:44 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I think iMuse really got to it's top during The Dig.
  564. (07:45:46 AM) Kwi: Wow, so this was all done on the computer? That makes the backgrounds even more impressive.
  565. (07:45:52 AM) Hal: Well, Harvard, Stanford, and Yale, certainly
  566. (07:46:00 AM) Gins: i notice that this location is a perfect example for why adventure games should go back to multiple verbs
  567. (07:46:02 AM) salty_horse: The_Mad_Pirate, that's not correct - .brush wasn't the file extension. See the Douglas Crockford's LucasArts panel for the exact details
  568. (07:46:08 AM) Gins: first you visit it with "click=do"
  569. (07:46:09 AM) Sven_Q45: I´ve the floppy version on CD. And the CD enhanced version and the FM-Towns version. But the FM-Towns version was a little bit disappointing...
  570. (07:46:11 AM) Gins: and then you come back with verbs
  571. (07:46:13 AM) Syd: Forgot to pick up some stuff downstairs
  572. (07:46:18 AM) Gins: and suddenly all the possibilities!
  573. (07:46:46 AM) Fireflower: are the locations in the game based on real locations?
  574. (07:46:56 AM) Hal: You know, verbs and all, I just love pointing and clicking -- or these days, tapping
  575. (07:47:06 AM) Solospieler: i always though the entrance hall is so atmospheric
  576. (07:47:10 AM) Fireflower: i love bitumen
  577. (07:47:10 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: salty_horse: You are right , it was Deluxe Paint.
  578. (07:47:14 AM) salty_horse: what I love about "secret history" novels/games/movies is that they tickle my research bone so much. but it's so hard to later recall what was fiction and what was true!
  579. (07:47:35 AM) Hal: Some of the locations are real -- the Azores, Thera (Santorini), but maybe not Atlantis itself, I dunno
  580. (07:48:01 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Indy picking up random used gums from desks :D
  581. (07:48:04 AM) yama: Heheh. It would be funny if they found Atlantis for real. :D
  582. (07:48:04 AM) Hal: The entrance hall is atmospheric because of the school music
  583. (07:48:04 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deluxe_Paint
  584. (07:48:11 AM) salty_horse: Voodoo_Lord, if it's not nailed down... :)
  585. (07:48:11 AM) Fireflower: you didn't visit Atlantis?
  586. (07:48:17 AM) Hectate: The interior designer here really loved blue light.
  587. (07:48:20 AM) Gins: I'm disappointed too
  588. (07:48:27 AM) Hal: Where the hell is that damn book?
  589. (07:48:50 AM) Solospieler: how long did it take to paint a background?
  590. (07:48:51 AM) yama: I find that adventure games with a lot of things to look and poke at feel more immersive to me.
  591. (07:48:53 AM) Gins: has the shelf already been unscrewed?
  592. (07:48:55 AM) SirSlade: I wonder if in 1000 years they're going to be looking for "Lost eBooks of Bill Gates"
  593. (07:48:56 AM) Fireflower: use crowbar on chest
  594. (07:48:58 AM) Kwi: Downstairs in the chest, IIRC.
  595. (07:49:03 AM) Hectate: lol
  596. (07:49:26 AM) OzzieMonkey: I think you need to push the crate
  597. (07:49:31 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Hal: Did you ever watched Young Indy, anyway? Did you like it?
  598. (07:49:32 AM) Gins: unscrew the screws of that shelf
  599. (07:49:36 AM) LinuxChef: yes push crate
  600. (07:49:37 AM) salty_horse: was that a phallic statue on the top left???
  601. (07:49:54 AM) salty_horse: it's unscrewed
  602. (07:49:57 AM) Hal: it took a couple of weeks, then some touch ups to get these things done
  603. (07:49:57 AM) Gins: great puzzle
  604. (07:49:58 AM) Gins: lol
  605. (07:50:03 AM) Voodoo_Lord: is it screwed?
  606. (07:50:04 AM) Hectate: There'll be a real place called Atlantis, instead it'll be "The Lost City of Boston."
  607. (07:50:14 AM) Gins: funny is that guybrush iirc does this automatically, just with nails
  608. (07:50:14 AM) Solospieler: Wow! Thank you!
  609. (07:50:26 AM) Sven_Q45: Interesting. I only was in Monte Carlo and Crete. But not the ruins of Knossoss. :(
  610. (07:50:28 AM) salty_horse: this kind of scene takes 2 minutes in an indy movie
  611. (07:50:35 AM) Syd: I don't think I've gotten this location before. Gonna try the furnace room
  612. (07:50:39 AM) Hal: Hey, don't you have to get down into the furnace room?
  613. (07:50:48 AM) Fireflower: i've been to Atlantis
  614. (07:50:56 AM) salty_horse: Fireflower, got the shirt?
  615. (07:51:00 AM) Fireflower: yeah
  616. (07:51:01 AM) Hal: The Lost City of Any Coast on Earth
  617. (07:51:07 AM) Fireflower: I <3 Atlantis
  618. (07:51:09 AM) Hal: Use gum
  619. (07:51:11 AM) Starker: How about The Lost City of Atlanta?
  620. (07:51:19 AM) Hal: The gum works
  621. (07:51:21 AM) SirLemonhead: that really worked? haha
  622. (07:51:21 AM) salty_horse: Starker, Futurama reference? :)
  623. (07:51:21 AM) Hal: Woohoo
  624. (07:51:27 AM) salty_horse: indy looking short
  625. (07:51:28 AM) Kwi: There is no way the gum would work in real life. :D
  626. (07:51:28 AM) LinuxChef: cat
  627. (07:51:37 AM) Starker: Aye.
  628. (07:51:40 AM) Hal: It was a little bit before Futurama's time
  629. (07:51:44 AM) Hectate: the gum would clean up dust off the floor...
  630. (07:51:45 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Starker: The place were casino chips gets losts !
  631. (07:51:45 AM) AnnoySumo: what do you want your whip for?
  632. (07:51:50 AM) Kwi: Take the cat.
  633. (07:52:10 AM) salty_horse: Hal, I meant the "lost city of atlanta" joke that Starker made :)
  634. (07:52:23 AM) Sven_Q45: Maybe there is another Atlantis. Don´t forget that there IS an island in Japan that can be translated as "Monkey Island"...
  635. (07:52:24 AM) Voodoo_Lord: It was in that mermaids episode
  636. (07:52:34 AM) Gins: hm can you whip at the book?
  637. (07:52:36 AM) salty_horse: Voodoo_Lord, called "the deep south"
  638. (07:52:50 AM) AnnoySumo: look at cats to see if they are part of the right collection
  639. (07:52:51 AM) yama: Wow. 57 people watching the stream. :D
  640. (07:52:52 AM) Kwi: Nah, the book drops when hit by coal, but we tried that, so it's somewhere else.
  641. (07:52:54 AM) Hal: There are 3 locs possible -- but I think you're there for this session -- library
  642. (07:52:54 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Monkey Island though is near Mexico. Infernal Machine teached me that!
  643. (07:52:58 AM) salty_horse: Voodoo_Lord, where Fry wishes his fiancee was the other kind of mermaid: with the fish part on top and the lady part on the bottom
  644. (07:53:03 AM) OzzieMonkey: You need to pick up each cat until you find the wax one
  645. (07:53:08 AM) Solospieler: how many backgrounds didn't make it into the final game?
  646. (07:53:13 AM) Hal: Go Fry
  647. (07:53:19 AM) salty_horse: Hal, so it's not hidden in the "last place you look"?
  648. (07:53:22 AM) Hal: Catz
  649. (07:53:31 AM) Syd: Sorry if I'm stumbling around a bit, I haven't gotten this book location before
  650. (07:53:35 AM) Fireflower: are we stuck?
  651. (07:53:37 AM) Kwi: @Syd: Pick up cat figurine.
  652. (07:53:38 AM) Syd: Feel free to guide me along. :P
  653. (07:53:45 AM) Hal: No, we throw a random number and place the book that way
  654. (07:53:48 AM) Zimpftwapfl [508d7a9e@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  655. (07:53:56 AM) Kwi: Try them all.
  656. (07:53:59 AM) GameClubFan_219950 [8e81d1d3@hide-B64552F4.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  657. (07:54:01 AM) SirLemonhead: I've only played this once. didn't realise stuff was randomised
  658. (07:54:04 AM) Hal: melt that wax
  659. (07:54:05 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I still think why the hourglass room in Loom never get into the game.
  660. (07:54:07 AM) Voodoo_Lord: catz be wax yo
  661. (07:54:09 AM) Cheeseness: Use wax cat on quarrelsome rhinoceros
  662. (07:54:10 AM) davidfitt: try all cats
  663. (07:54:14 AM) salty_horse: wasn't one of these cats alive in the intro? or was that an illusion?
  664. (07:54:21 AM) Gins: yes, one was
  665. (07:54:23 AM) AnnoySumo: that's not it lol
  666. (07:54:24 AM) GameClubFan_788616: did the crate upstairs get pushed?
  667. (07:54:25 AM) Voodoo_Lord: it was the one missing
  668. (07:54:25 AM) Hectate1 [4a83fff8@hide-6C77D8AA.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  669. (07:54:28 AM) OzzieMonkey: Yeah, you need to go back to that crate and push it
  670. (07:54:29 AM) Fireflower: use hand with furnace
  671. (07:54:29 AM) Kwi: Okay, then it's in the chest upstairs.
  672. (07:54:37 AM) salty_horse: whip it!
  673. (07:54:40 AM) Gins: i think indy wouldn't walk down by himself, so you need to get the cat
  674. (07:54:43 AM) GameClubFan_788616: the other upstairs :)
  675. (07:54:44 AM) Permafry_42: when i did pj sam, it was randomized and i used a save file to ensure i'd get the same locations for items
  676. (07:54:44 AM) Gins: to scare him down
  677. (07:54:56 AM) Kwi: Climb rope, push crate, unlock chest with key.
  678. (07:55:17 AM) Hal: Book has gotta be in the library, or the room at top of coal chute or in the totem pole room
  679. (07:55:21 AM) Syd: There we go
  680. (07:55:29 AM) Hal: Hey, Pearce collection!
  681. (07:55:29 AM) salty_horse: phallic statute at top left again
  682. (07:55:31 AM) Voodoo_Lord: hooray
  683. (07:55:36 AM) Permafry_42: nice job syd!
  684. (07:55:40 AM) Kwi: It's an arm, not a phallus. :P
  685. (07:55:46 AM) davidfitt: yaay
  686. (07:55:49 AM) Gins: lol it throws me off every time: when he says "Plato" i hear "Play-Doh!"
  687. (07:55:51 AM) Hal: Lot of info in short sentences with big type, I must say!
  688. (07:56:05 AM) Sven_Q45: @Voodoo_Lord No that is only the barber shop. :D
  689. (07:56:08 AM) Hal: It's that American d-for-p problem
  690. (07:56:16 AM) OzzieMonkey: The Lost Dialogue of Pay-Doh, because it can talk now :p
  691. (07:56:20 AM) OzzieMonkey: *Play-Doh
  692. (07:56:35 AM) salty_horse: for a kid that barely knew English, this was a challenge, so I just skipped it, if I recall correctly
  693. (07:56:47 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Sven_Q45: sorry lost track, what was I saying again? :P
  694. (07:56:50 AM) Kwi: Yeah, the only thing this game is missing is a "real" Lost Dialogue feelie.
  695. (07:56:54 AM) Gins: replacing every occurance of "plato" with "play-doh" would make this game funnier than it already is.
  696. (07:56:55 AM) Voodoo_Lord: chatroom are confusing unfortunately
  697. (07:56:56 AM) Permafry_42: oh yeah @hal who got the idea for orchalcum?
  698. (07:57:07 AM) Hal: I meant d-for-t, urk
  699. (07:57:12 AM) salty_horse: let's look at it again! :)
  700. (07:57:15 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Charlie has a strange handwriting
  701. (07:57:16 AM) Sven_Q45: @Voodoo-Lord: Monkey Island though is near Mexico. Infernal Machine teached me that!
  702. (07:57:18 AM) Kwi: Like the grail diary accompanying the Indy 3 game.
  703. (07:57:22 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Mr Play-to Lost Dialogues !
  704. (07:57:24 AM) Hal: Plato himself wrote about orichalcum
  705. (07:57:37 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Where did the idea of Lost Dialogues came from ?
  706. (07:57:40 AM) Gins: yes, i think orichalcum is a "real" thing
  707. (07:57:52 AM) salty_horse: my name is Ori :D
  708. (07:57:56 AM) OzzieMonkey: I find the grail diary impossible to read for Indy3, so I just do trial and error for choosing the grail
  709. (07:57:59 AM) MRA [5d80005a@hide-BF4D4B18.mibbit.com] entered the room.
  710. (07:58:01 AM) Kwi: Both The Lost Dialogue and Orichalcum are "real" things.
  711. (07:58:02 AM) Hal: Santorini, I tell you
  712. (07:58:04 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Sven_Q45: Ahhh :P No I was referring to a reference: you can see on a travel map that Melee is near Mexico, so
  713. (07:58:11 AM) Voodoo_Lord: MI must not be far away from there
  714. (07:58:17 AM) Starker: Hmm... wasn't Platon a nickname for fattie in Ancient Greek or something?
  715. (07:58:31 AM) Hectate1: them jazzhands again
  716. (07:58:37 AM) Hal: My suggestion -- play the team path, the most fun.
  717. (07:58:41 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Sorry , I didnt read it. My apologies.
  718. (07:58:45 AM) salty_horse: Indy sending out bad energies
  719. (07:58:50 AM) Syd: I already settled on Team path before I started streaming. :)
  720. (07:58:51 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, we're going to go with the Team path
  721. (07:58:55 AM) Sven_Q45: @Voodoo_Lord Ah, yes.
  722. (07:58:59 AM) Hal: Or, the more intense puzzles -- but fighting is a big pain
  723. (07:59:02 AM) Cheeseness: It feels like the best fit for discussion/streaming
  724. (07:59:09 AM) salty_horse: the brawns path seemed very short, last time I played it
  725. (07:59:27 AM) Gins: yes, the team path is the most cinematic one
  726. (07:59:29 AM) Fireflower: I went to Atlantis and all I got was this lousy t-shirt
  727. (07:59:37 AM) Gins: (and i mean cinematic in a good way here)
  728. (07:59:43 AM) Kwi: Yeah, fists is far shorter than the others. I think wits is slightly longer than team, but not much.
  729. (07:59:48 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: The Solo Path was kinda mind breaking though.
  730. (07:59:50 AM) Hal: I don't even have the t-shirt
  731. (07:59:51 AM) salty_horse: Indy not being a very ladies' man
  732. (07:59:53 AM) Cheeseness: @Hal: How did you feel about having multiple paths during development and on reflection do you feel it enhances or dilutes the game?
  733. (08:00:19 AM) [sheep]: woo partner
  734. (08:00:34 AM) Hal: I love the 3 paths, but they were a big problem to build -- Fate is a much more complex game than Monkey 1 or 2 or DOTT, etc.
  735. (08:01:00 AM) Voodoo_Lord: love this location in fists path
  736. (08:01:04 AM) Hectate1: music
  737. (08:01:06 AM) salty_horse: time for a Temple of Doom-style setting!
  738. (08:01:17 AM) OzzieMonkey: So, is this Team Path?
  739. (08:01:19 AM) Hectate1: lol, my Day of the Devs stream just started playing music spontaneously
  740. (08:01:24 AM) Voodoo_Lord: Also for some reason the action game started with this location, IIRC
  741. (08:01:24 AM) AnnoySumo: in which path do you have to crash the cars? wits?
  742. (08:01:24 AM) Syd: Yeah, Team path
  743. (08:01:29 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: You mean in terms of Integreation Tests or QA Testing ?
  744. (08:01:30 AM) Hal: Okay guys, -- looks like you're safely on your way. I have to bail out now. Thanks for choosing to play this wonderful old chestnut, and thanks for the kind remarks. See you on the holodeck!
  745. (08:01:40 AM) Hal: All of the above ...
  746. (08:01:46 AM) Hectate1 left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
  747. (08:01:47 AM) salty_horse: I like the random people walking around. Not common in SCUMM games
  748. (08:01:48 AM) yama: Thanks for joining us, Hal. :D
  749. (08:01:49 AM) [sheep]: thanks Hal!
  750. (08:01:49 AM) Hal: So long, now ...
  751. (08:01:51 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hal: Bye MR. Barwood !
  752. (08:01:51 AM) SirSlade: THanks for joining
  753. (08:01:52 AM) Voodoo_Lord: See you Hal!
