  1. Category Discussion: Golden Sun True 100%
  2.
  3. What is this category?
  4.
  5. At present there is no clear understanding of what "100%" entails in Golden Sun. In TBS the only thing tracked on the save file screen are the collected djinn - hence the All Djinn category. But there are six in game events which trigger events in TLA which plausibly should count towards whatever 100% means. Meanwhile in TLA it is impossible to collect all djinn without using a password, and without agreement on how passwords should be handled (do you transfer all 28 GS1 Djinn? Only 24 djinn?) there isn't a clear definition of 100% here either.
  6.
  7. True 100% intends to solve this problem. The requirements are as follows:
  8.
  9. Golden Sun TBS:
  10. - Activate all six TLA events.
  11. - Collect sufficient items and djinn to collect all Djinn and Summons in TLA. [Lift, Force, 6-7 Djinn of each element]
  12. - Beat the game.
  13.
  14. Golden Sun TLA:
  15. - Game file needs to use the password from the previous Golden Sun TBS run.
  16. - It is preferred that TBS+TLA are played through in a single stream. However the timer between the end of TBS and the end of Character naming in TLA is allowed to be paused.
  17. - Collect all Djinn and Summons.
  18. - GS1 events are not required to be viewed. [This will be discussed later]
  19. - Beat the game.
  20.
  21. What are the six TLA events?
  22.
  23. 1. Saving Hsu in Alpine Crossing
  24. 2. Talking to Vault's Mayor after Kalay (and releasing the Thieves)
  25. 3. Visiting Isaac's mother after Kalay
  26. 4. Defeating Navampa in Colosso
  27. 5. Rescuing Hammet from Lunpa
  28. 6. Defeat Deadbeard.
  29.
  30. These trigger the following events in TLA
  31.
  32. 1. Feizhi delivers Felix the Golden Ring in Champa after the Alex/Karst/Agatio cutscene.
  33. 2. The thieves battle Felix's party upon leaving Madra after Karst has been spoken to. They give the Golden Boots as a reward.
  34. 3. Changes some dialogue in the Epilogue cutscene prior to the credits.
  35. 4. The three Colosso gladiators battle Felix's party upon leaving Shaman Village Cave after collecting the Hover Jade. They give the Golden Shirt as a reward.
  36. 5. Master Hama gives you an Orihalcon prior to boarding the winged boat for the first time.
  37. 6. Some pirates in Alhafra's inn discuss how Isaac is now the pirate king.
  38.
  39. Why are the GS1 events not required to be viewed?
  40.
  41. I actually wrestled with this question for some time. Forcing the player to view them would validate that the events were activated in TBS which is a semi-good thing. However none of these events unlock anything permanent (i.e. Djinn or Summon). So these simply become "special one time cutscenes". There are plenty of other special one time cutscenes - for instance saying No to Kraden until Lemuria to trigger Kraden exploding at Felix - so there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason to have the GS1 events included.
  42.
  43. With all of this said, I am open to other arguments in favor of their inclusion.
  44.
  45. The following events are skippable (but may not be optimal to skip)
  46.
  47. - The Pirates in Madra can be skipped by not talking to them.
  48. - The Colosso Gladiator fight can be skipped via Teleport.
  49. - Master Hama's Orihalcon can be skipped via entering the boat from the mainland rather than through Atteka Inlet.
  50.
  51. As far as I know, none of the others can be skipped. While I haven't routed anything just yet, the current Max% strat to get Core requires viewing the Master Hama cutscene, there doesn't seem to be a compelling reason to change that strategy. However skipping the other two makes sense.
  52.
  53. Why not require the collection of all Psynergy Items?
  54.
  55. I may actually include this as a requirement seeing as this is information that is sent to TLA in a Bronze PW. Anyway there is exactly one psynergy that may be skipped in the face of all the other requirements. That psynergy is Halt - there is no need to collect Kite in GS1 and hence no need to collect Halt. All other optional psynergies are required one way or another - Force to get Shine in Contigo, Cloak to free Hammet, Tremor to get Moloch, Lift to beat TLA Kappa.
  56.
  57. Why not the psynergy items in TLA?
  58.
  59. Sure, I can see an argument for this. The Tomegathericon is at the end of a dungeon which is a kind of side quest. As such there's a decent (but not complete) argument for its inclusion. Conversely, the Mysterious Card is just chilling somewhere in the middle of Kandorean Temple. The quest arguments for the Tomegathericon don't really apply here. The Trainer's Whip is more similar to the Mysterious Card in that it is just chilling in Yampi Desert - although we would get this because it's optimal for Doom Dragon. idk. Open to thoughts here.
  60.
  61. I'll also add you could almost apply the arguments for the Mysterious Card and Trainer's Whip to the stat boosting items which I don't think we should collect.
  62.
  63. What kind of password? Is link cabled banned?
  64.
  65. I think Bronze is going to be the way to go, since the Bronze PW glitch means that your under-leveled characters don't get penalized outside of an increase encounter rate. The way the category is structured means that there is no penalty for using a Gold PW if someone chooses to do that. And sure, let's ban link cable seeing as no one can actually do that.
  66.
  67. Why not TBS+TLA any%? or all Djinn+all summons TBS+TLA?
  68.
  69. Neither of these categories seem all that interesting. The former is just a worse separately completed TBS+TLA any% while the latter has the TBS run barely different from Any% and TLA barely different from Max%. This category has a clearly different TBS (because of Deadbeard and Navampa) while TLA is still basically just Max% - i.e. a better version of the latter option.
  70.
  71. Why not fight Dullahan?
  72.
  73. idk. Is defeating him a part of a side-quest? Is the object of that sidequest to defeat Dullahan or get Iris? I'm open to including Dullahan ... this is a pretty meme-y category after all. But right now from a consistency perspective there's no compelling reason to include Dullahan.
  74.
  75. Why not include all one-time cutscenes?
  76.
  77. idk. I like my sanity. I'd prefer to keep it.
  78.
  79. No S&Q?
  80.
  81. Nope, I'm definitely saving and quitting for this beast.
