  3. [2013-09-11 13:19:45] <Kkat> 3Bookwright "Now... Now we just have to find an eye scanner and put ourselves in the system." He starts looking around for one.
  4. [2013-09-11 13:19:54] <Kkat> 3Kid folds her forelegs and pouts. "Gray 'n a kinda light blue. It'll blend in."
  5. [2013-09-11 13:20:01] <Kkat> 3Pink-E swoops into where CopyCat is. "Oh, she should be alabaster with purple and pink!"
  6. [2013-09-11 13:20:09] <Kkat> 3Fortunately, there is a convenient eye-scanner in the security desk. Along with a couple warm Sparkle-Colas, a stun baton, and three different kinds of paperweights.

"I dunno, if ya'll haven't guessed, m' idea of girlin' up is t' make sure I don't got too much blood on me. Ah ain't the sort 't do any decoratin'." She blinked her eyes, trying to get the discoloration in her vision away. Damn bright light. "Ah guess." She said, preferring to see...

  22. [2013-09-11 13:30:00] * Noble_Heart frowns and looks down to Bookwright. "We are fairly certain that We have not." She steps up to the door to open it. Being the first through was her duty, after all.

  25. [2013-09-11 13:30:25] * CopyCat nods slowly. "I suppose this should wait until after seeing what's through the door. We'll make sure to return though, to Sweet-E looking fabulous!" She goes over to the eye scanner and gets *ka-FNKTH!*-ed.
  26. [2013-09-11 13:31:29] * Shatara tries catching a few spots in his talons as he recovers from his own ka-FNKTH.
  27. [2013-09-11 13:33:27] * Kid groaned. "Whatever. I haven't even worn a dress before. Dressin' up is stupid." She was aware of the hypocrisy, she'd been wanting to wear a dress at least once for a long time now, but kept it up for humor value.

  32. [2013-09-11 13:38:11] * Noble_Heart taps her chin. "We imagine you would look quite nice in a simpler color. But We were never strong on fashion." She moves to open the doors.
  33. [2013-09-11 13:38:39] * Shatara finds his mind running with the local mares in dresses as well.
  34. [2013-09-11 13:39:42] * Bookwright flushes. "Ahem. Right. Okay. I'm ready." He takes off his glasses and squints. "Dang, y'all are fuzzy-looking."
  35. [2013-09-11 13:40:07] * Kid blushes. "Uh. Ain't real convenient timing talkin' about dresses when we're about t' go in an prolly find somethin' horrible, but, um. Thanks?" She shook her head. Urgh. Serious up.

  37. [2013-09-11 13:41:18] * CopyCat tilts her head at Shatara and bites her lip. "Um, perhaps something with a little more fabric, dear. It's like we're wearing nothing at all."
  38. [2013-09-11 13:41:25] * Bookwright "Can, um. Can somepony who is not me please operate the computer to open the vault door? I can't see too good, and I don't want it to not be able to scan my eyes."
  39. [2013-09-11 13:41:28] <Kkat> 3Pink-E manages to sound like she's grinning. "You bet! I'm... wait, what?" Before the pink sprite-bot can think too long on it though, inspiration hits. "ooh! I know! Streamers!"
  40. [2013-09-11 13:42:44] * Kid looks around for any door opening devices. Or at least, anything big and lever-like.
  41. [2013-09-11 13:42:55] * Shatara squawks and blushes, hiding under his wing.
  42. [2013-09-11 13:43:52] <Kkat> 3The doors swing open, and Noble_Heart's eyes are immediately assaulted by the magical beam of a long-range retinal scanner. "Omega Clearance confirmed," announces a polite mare's voice. "Welcome. Have a nice, Stable day!"
  43. [2013-09-11 13:44:34] * Noble_Heart blinks a few moments at the eye scan. "Augh!" She winces. "We wish that there had been some efforts to make that less uncomfortable!"
  44. [2013-09-11 13:46:11] * Shatara follows in behind Noble_Heart, still blushing some, and trying his best not to look at her.
  45. [2013-09-11 13:48:29] * Get_Lost follows the group wherever they are going this time... maybe there will be plushies
  46. [2013-09-11 13:49:27] <Kkat> 3The twin gauss turret in the room bleeps slowly but does not fire. The two large crystal battle ewes remain motionless... although that is mostly because they have been long, long dead. A donut-shaped desk with several terminals sits int he middle of surprisingly homey workstations. Most are empty, but one is scattered with models, mostly of pylons.
  47. [2013-09-11 13:50:15] * Noble_Heart glances around the room, slowly entering and heading for that desk. Time to check for information.
  48. [2013-09-11 13:50:34] * Get_Lost whisltles while taking a look around "alright, it looks like we're where we wanted to be...."
  49. [2013-09-11 13:51:18] * CopyCat trots in along with Get_Lost, flashing the eye-scanner a smile. "We did it Get_Lost! We made it inside... now to look for dresses and streamers. Or dresses with streamers!"
  50. [2013-09-11 13:51:44] * Get_Lost pokes Bookwright "want the honor?"
  51. [2013-09-11 13:52:20] * Kid closes her eyes after getting scanned. Urgh. More bright spots. Wonderful. She made her way up, stumbling a little. Brightness be damned, she was going to turn this place upside down for loot.
  52. [2013-09-11 13:53:21] <Kkat> 3Pink-E waits outside. "um, I don't think Sweet-E and I can come in. We don't have eyes."
  53. [2013-09-11 13:53:24] * Get_Lost "well, as ong as we don't have to dress like streamers i guess it is okay with me..."
  54. [2013-09-11 13:53:52] <Kkat> 3Pink-E giggles electronically. "Dress like streamers? That's silly!"
  55. [2013-09-11 13:55:21] * Get_Lost stands next to pink-e "yeah, the eyes thing seems quite reasonable... tell me if you find something interesting"
  56. [2013-09-11 13:55:39] * Bookwright squints at the fuzzy blob that addressed him. "Uh? What honor? I really can't see a foot beyond my face with my glasses off, and I don't want to put them on inside this room..."
  57. [2013-09-11 13:56:26] * Get_Lost "listen, bookie.... it's you or me and i don't have eyes at all... sooooo... any better idea?"
  58. [2013-09-11 13:57:04] * CopyCat nods at Get_Lost and takes Bookwright under her wing. "Come along, this way, here's a fancy computer for you."
  59. [2013-09-11 13:57:15] * Bookwright "Ooooh. Sure, yeah. I can do that."
  60. [2013-09-11 13:57:38] * Noble_Heart sits down at one of the terminals beginning The Process.
  61. [2013-09-11 14:03:10] * CopyCat stops before reaching the terminals. "Oh, Noble Heart has already solved the problem! Although you can't see, Bookie, I can assure you that she looked good while doing it, too."
  62. [2013-09-11 14:03:15] * Get_Lost sits next to pink-e, waiting for the others to come back. yawns and starts tinkering with the struff in the robotic labs
  63. [2013-09-11 14:04:09] * Bookwright nods. "Okay, whatever you say fuzzy white thing with blue highlight."
  64. [2013-09-11 14:06:55] * Kid takes a bleary-eyed look around for anything interesting.
  65. [2013-09-11 14:07:37] * Shatara distracts himself by poking at some of the models.
  66. [2013-09-11 14:10:44] * Get_Lost goes from taking a look around to straight salvaging "yerah... and then i need a primed power source and a couple antigravity devices... astabilizer... sensors... radio bridge.... what else... a processor! ah.... let's see... this one... or this one? what's the fanciest?"
  67. [2013-09-11 14:10:53] <Kkat> 3After nearly getting locked out of the ASD terminal system, Noble_Heart manages to find the password in all the strings of jumbled data: thereisnosuchthingasamalealicorn
  68. [2013-09-11 14:11:15] * Noble_Heart twitches one eye. "We are surprised We found that at all. This is a most complicated password!"
  69. [2013-09-11 14:11:55] * Bookwright squints at the terminal. "There is no such thing as smalecorn? No, I don't think there is."
  70. [2013-09-11 14:13:30] <Kkat> 3Hacked, the terminal opens up with a plethoria of project reports and personal logs.
  71. [2013-09-11 14:14:02] * Kid lifts an ear to that and grins lightly. "M'thinks that them Stable Tec ponies might have a problem with Solaris 'r somethin'."
  72. [2013-09-11 14:21:01] <Kkat> 3Unlike many previous systems, where most of the files were corrupted, leaving finding pertinent information to a matter of luck, this system seems entirely intact with a complex system of backups. Unfortunately, the one part of the system that seems to have suffered was the directories menu.. making it a dizzying slog to find relevant data.
  73. [2013-09-11 14:21:52] * Noble_Heart frowns, "We are uncertain what We are looking for. Or how to find it..."
  74. [2013-09-11 14:23:13] * Bookwright squints. "Okay tall purple blob that sounds like Noble Heart, let me have a shot..."
  75. [2013-09-11 14:24:39] * CopyCat tries to be helpful. "Oh, did you check under the sofa cushions? There are usually things under the sofa cushions."
  76. [2013-09-11 14:27:48] <Kkat> 3Surprisingly, there is a sofa on the far side of the room with some assorted pillows. The way the pillows and cushions are arranged gives the impression that it was used primarily by ponies who needed to take a break for headaches or eyestrain in the middle of a project. There is a table with a radio on it at one end.
  77. [2013-09-11 14:28:42] * Shatara decides to be quasi-useful and check the couch cushions.
  78. [2013-09-11 14:29:16] * Kid stops, and then checks out the Radio. Oh, hey. That's... Actually pretty cool. She turns on the radio and sees if there's anything active.
  79. [2013-09-11 14:30:01] * Noble_Heart sighs quietly and scooches over beside Bookwright. "We would accept any help We can get. This is a lot of information."
  80. [2013-09-11 14:30:19] * CopyCat spots the sofa and trots over before gleefully helping Shatara remove the cushions. But instead of checking under them, she builds a fort.
  81. [2013-09-11 14:30:34] * Bookwright goes up to the terminal. "Right, right, let's see if I can't find what I need..."
  82. [2013-09-11 14:31:19] * Get_Lost hums a silly song while salvaging the desks "if you're past the drift and haven't got an oar..."
  83. [2013-09-11 14:32:59] * Shatara blinks at CopyCat, before shrugging ad hunkering down with.
  84. [2013-09-11 14:41:37] <Kkat> 3In the process of the sofa cushion inspection, Shatara finds a copy of Applied Gemstones and an issue of The Even Newer Scientist with feature article on "non-lethal weapons technologies of the near future".
  85. [2013-09-11 14:42:41] * Shatara finds reading material while assisting CopyCat in fort construction!

  87. [2013-09-11 14:47:17] * CopyCat finds the catbird scooching very close to join her in the fort. "Don't put your feathers there, that tickles!"
  88. [2013-09-11 14:47:48] * Kid blinks. Huh. It's pretty. She was prepared to leave it at that, but... Then something disturbing sprung to mind. "Sweet-E? I got a question for you out there." She leans in and narrows her eyes to get a better look. "You know of any radio stations that are still goin' that do fancy music?"
  89. [2013-09-11 14:48:44] <Kkat> 3Bookwright is able to pull up what seems like one of the last personal journals to relate to the pylons.
  90. [2013-09-11 14:49:24] <Kkat> 3Sweet-E considers. "Fancy music? You mean, like with tambourines?"
  91. [2013-09-11 14:51:57] * Bookwright "Huh... a journal about the pylons? Interesting." He opens the file and views it.
  92. [2013-09-11 14:52:54] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side slightly, curious what Bookwright had found.
  93. [2013-09-11 14:53:01] * Kid narrows her eyes. "Ah meant some with th' stringy classic-y sound to it. So, uh. Maybe?"
  94. [2013-09-11 14:56:31] * Kid considers this. The contemplative, chiming tones of the song in question helped. "It's pretty. And I dunno what a tambourine is, but it sounds more like th' big instrument that has all those white teeth-lookin' levers that makes sound come out when y' press on 'em."
  95. [2013-09-11 14:57:44] * Shatara blushes, pulling his wings close to himself as he listens to the calming music.
  96. [2013-09-11 14:58:31] <Kkat> 3> The Skyguard as cancelled additional funding of the parameter fence project, and chosen to award the contract to a M.A.S. affiliate after the latest test of our prototype "non-lethal energy barrier" spectacularly failed to meet the "non-lethal" requirement.
  97. [2013-09-11 14:59:21] * Noble_Heart eartwitches towards Kid. "We believe the name was Piano."
  98. [2013-09-11 15:01:03] * CopyCat shuffles mischievously, tickling Shatara back. "Whose name was 'Piano'?"
  99. [2013-09-11 15:01:24] * Kid shrugs. "I dunno. I ain't never been told about instruments." She summed up. "What's th' news on over there? Y' find somethin' cool 'r shiny?"
  100. [2013-09-11 15:01:48] * Bookwright "Interesting. Apparently the barrier out there isn't supposed to be harmful."
  101. [2013-09-11 15:02:47] <Kkat> 3> Probably just as well, as recent tests have also revealed a potential vulnerability of the pylons to certain extreme-frequency sound waves. While the potentially damaging sound waves do not occur in nature, it might be possible for the enemy to manufacture means of disabling the fences.
  102. [2013-09-11 15:03:15] * Kid shrugs. "I unno. Sounds like a fancy name, though." She continues looking around, waiting on an answer from Sweet-E while looking for something a tad more sellable than music.
  103. [2013-09-11 15:03:21] * Shatara squirms about at the tickles and blushes deeper, batting his wing back at hers.
  104. [2013-09-11 15:03:37] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side and frowns. "Well, perhaps we have uncovered a way to remove the fences at least. Though it seems we may require proper equipment. Or at least proper records..."

[2013-09-11 15:04:17] <Kkat> 3> As much as my team really put their hearts into trying to make this work, even if we could make the system non-lethal, the cost in bits and pony effort to patch this vulnerability would have thrown this project so deeply into the red that it's probably better that we cut our losses.
  106. [2013-09-11 15:04:52] * CopyCat calls out to Kid. "We made a fort. Wanna see?"
  107. [2013-09-11 15:04:57] * Bookwright "Oooh. According to this, certain frequencies of sound can damage or disable the pylons. If we we were to figure out some way to generate these very-high-pitch sounds and apply them correctly, I think we could disable part or all of the barrier!"
  108. [2013-09-11 15:05:58] * Kid whoops! "Alright! One part down, we got only one more t' go!"
  109. [2013-09-11 15:07:05] <Kkat> 3Sweet-E thinks. "Well, the music you are playing right now has piano. And lots of fancy instruments. But that's not a real radio station, it's just in this building." After a moment, she suggests, "We could probably find a way to broadcast it though."
  110. [2013-09-11 15:07:31] * Kid keeps looking around, sighing softly at Copycat. "Not right now, I gotta make sure there ain't nothin' worth grabbin'." She pauses. "That'd be purty cool, actuall-" Wait.
  111. [2013-09-11 15:07:54] * Kid continues. "Hey, Sweet-E. Ya'll said that we can broadcast stuff from here?"
  112. [2013-09-11 15:08:32] * Noble_Heart contemplates. "We might be able to use Our magic to do such a thing, perhaps. But it is hard to say. Without knowing what sound We would need to produce..."
  113. [2013-09-11 15:11:51] <Kkat> 3Get_Lost has, meanwhile, been gathering up robotic parts, scraps and components from the communal area and isolated work labs. With a rather impressive bit of luck, she finds a Class III modular spritebot spell matrix.
  114. [2013-09-11 15:12:45] * Bookwright "Only problem is, what are the frequencies? And how are we gonna apply them?"
  115. [2013-09-11 15:13:59] * CopyCat pipes up. "If they were doing tests to try and solve the sound problem then maybe they already built something that could make the sound. You know, to do their testing with. Or maybe there are plans for something like that around here. I'll bet Get Lost could build one for us."
  116. [2013-09-11 15:14:24] * Noble_Heart looks down to Bookwright. "We are quite capable of creating illusions and amplifying sounds. Though without knowing what sounds to make, or amplify, such a feat would be troubling and exhausting..."
  117. [2013-09-11 15:15:06] * Bookwright "Ye-es.... Hmm." He starts paging through files, searching for the test results described in the journal.
  118. [2013-09-11 15:15:23] * Get_Lost yays and stuffs the thingie away
  119. [2013-09-11 15:18:21] * Kid considers this. She also tries to find any thing in any of the workstations. "Um. Maybe we could, like, she could make th' sound and we could find big ol' speakers t' shoot that sound at th' wall."
  120. [2013-09-11 15:26:37] * Bookwright taps his forehead. "Of course! When I was reading those security logs earlier, there was a note about Solaris weaponizing jukeboxes into... sonic weaponry. Bass cannons, I suppose."
  121. [2013-09-11 15:27:05] <Kkat> 3Unfortunately, while Bookwright is able to find a fair amount of information about the parameter fence project, he is unable to find any further information about the suggested vulnerability.
  122. [2013-09-11 15:27:43] <Kkat> 3(On the other hoof, it looks like there was a least one attempt to design a non-lethal mouth-held weapon, ostensibly for Stable security ponies, using the same technology. Also abandoned when the weapon prototype spectacularly failed at being non-lethal.)
  123. [2013-09-11 15:29:44] * Bookwright "And here... Cool. They tried to develop a portable sonic weapon... Looks like it was supposed to be for Stable security ponies, a sort of less-than-lethal sidearm. It appears to have been abandoned when it failed to be very lethal. I'd like to get my hooves on that!"
  124. [2013-09-11 15:30:31] <Kkat> 3(Fortunately, the report's hoofnote makes it clear that no living beings were harmed in the testing. The project never got far enough to test on living creatures after what it did to Miss Innocence's plushie collection.)
  125. [2013-09-11 15:30:36] * Noble_Heart frowns. "Is there any record on where it might be stored? If not We suggest checking this laboratory, then moving on. We still wish to visit the library."
  126. [2013-09-11 15:31:39] * Bookwright thinks back. "Er. I mean, failed in that it turned /out/ to be very lethal. It's not less than lethal at all, though live tests were never carried out. I suppose destroying a plushie collection is enough."
  127. [2013-09-11 15:36:08] * Bookwright "I wonder..." Maybe the location of the prototype is listed in another file?
  128. [2013-09-11 15:40:58] * Bookwright "Wait... not sonic. Derp. This is a weapon based on the force-field technology. "
  129. [2013-09-11 15:47:09] * CopyCat stands up suddenly, causing a cushion collapse on Shatara. "Which means we our visit to the Solaris factory now has a firmer purpose."
  130. [2013-09-11 15:47:22] * Noble_Heart taps her chin. "If there is no record. We will have to seek other possibilities. There is still much of these ruins which We have not visited yet."
  131. [2013-09-11 15:53:26] * Shatara acks and falls over under the cushion, dragging himself out and preening a wing.
  132. [2013-09-11 15:56:17] * Kid nods, then stands up to Noble. "Where've we not checked out here exactly before headin' up to the Library?"
  133. [2013-09-11 15:58:25] * Noble_Heart frowns. "Within this building? We believe We have checked most of the building. Save the tunnels which lead to the Ministry of Peace."
  134. [2013-09-11 15:58:31] * Bookwright "Yes, small green blob. What else?"
  135. [2013-09-11 15:59:59] * Kid considers this. "Pink-E?"
  136. [2013-09-11 16:00:44] * Kid "Tell me honestly, which is safer, walkin' to the library from here, or walkin' through th' tunnels to th' library?"
  137. [2013-09-11 16:02:12] <Kkat> 3Pink-E bleeps. "Well, there aren't any tunnels to the library, so..."
  138. [2013-09-11 16:04:10] <Kkat> 3Pink-E announces, "...the safest thing would be to fly!"
  139. [2013-09-11 16:05:23] * Shatara wiggles wings involuntarily.
  140. [2013-09-11 16:07:42] * Kid did not seem at all amused by that. "Sorry." She began with a caustic tone. "I meant, is goin' through th' tunnels to th' ministry of peace buildin' and then going to th' library safer than just walkin' up and goin' to your super special secret entrance?"
  141. [2013-09-11 16:08:23] * Kid hoofs off the MFC's to Bookie. Looked to be the type that would need such a thing.
  142. [2013-09-11 16:08:53] * Bookwright "Uh? Oh, thanks. These'll come in handy."
  143. [2013-09-11 16:09:08] <Kkat> 3Pink-E ponders. "Nope. The library is that way. And the Ministry of Peace is that totally different way."
  144. [2013-09-11 16:10:18] * Kid sighs and nods, turning to the rest of the party with a tired expression. "Alright, where are we headed next? Th' Peace buildin', th' library, or th' Solaris buildin'?"

  155. [2013-09-11 16:24:00] <Kkat> 3Sweet-E answers Bookwright. "Go back out of the Advanced Securities office and through my home. Then into the office of the Overmare's secretary. Go across the room and out the other door."
  156. [2013-09-11 16:25:02] * Kid nods. "Alright. Let's check out an' see if we got a carriage or not." She began to head that way.

  158. [2013-09-11 16:25:35] * Bookwright nods. "Okay. Um... Somepony give me a lead out of this vault? I don't wanna put my glasses on until I get outside of it."
  159. [2013-09-11 16:27:24] <Kkat> 3Sweet-E offers, "I can guide you. Just come to my beeps. And avoid the tables." <beep> ... <beep> ... "ooh, turn left a bit. No, a bit more... okay." <beep>
  160. [2013-09-11 16:27:52] * Bookwright trods forwards carefully and promptly bangs a shin. "OW!"

  162. [2013-09-11 16:28:22] <Kkat> 3Sweet-E makes a whimpering whistle. "Sorry! Sorry!"
  163. [2013-09-11 16:28:28] * Bookwright makes it out of the vault after banging all four shins, and then his head."

  166. [2013-09-11 16:34:31] <Kkat> 3The trek back to the secretaries' office is a short one. The opposite door is locked, but from the inside. Opening it is a simple matter.

  168. [2013-09-11 16:34:41] * Bookwright puts on his glasses. "'S'okay. Really. I'm fine. Used to it."
  169. [2013-09-11 16:37:18] * CopyCat stops in the RD-E lab again to try and set up a new paint scheme for Sweet-E. She already had the colours and pattern picked out, it was just a case of getting one of the maintainence booths to accept the design. After trying her best, she follows the others towards the unopened door.
  170. [2013-09-11 16:39:20] <Kkat> 3On the other side of the door is a quite spacious personal garage, dominated by the stretched, pegasus-pulled luxury carriage. The carriage is in largely good condition, save where it has been crushed nearly flat by the collapsed section of the ceiling.
  171. [2013-09-11 16:39:33] * CopyCat grins at Sweet-E. "I've tried to set up one of those booth-things for the RD-E bots to give you a super sweet colour scheme. I'm not sure if it'll work, but you can give it a try when you have time!"
  172. [2013-09-11 16:39:35] <Kkat> 3Beyond is an armored garage door. Unfortunately, most of the mechanical system designed to lift it is smashed across the carriage and floor.
  173. [2013-09-11 16:42:17] * CopyCat waves her ID badge at the crushed carriage.
  174. [2013-09-11 16:42:40] <Kkat> 3With a keen mechanical eye, Shatara discerns that while the luxury carriage is beyond hope, he can scavenge from it all the parts he needs to fully restore the firewagon.
  175. [2013-09-11 16:44:41] * Shatara rolls his eyes at copycat, stepping forward to examine what's left of the carriage. "Yup, that's flat all right..." He hovers around the wreckage, examining this and that, pushing what's left of the hood aside. "Looks like the parts are salvagable, though."
  176. [2013-09-11 16:45:12] * Bookwright walks up and examines the armored garage door. Maybe there's a mechanical release...?
