  1. A guide on tanks for all skill levels
  2.
  3. Hey, It's been awhile since my last few guides/reviews and I just finished with a huge tournament so I decided I might as well discuss how to improve personal play.
  4.
  5. To begin, I'd like to refrence jaydubya's comment here (http://www.reddit.com/r/WorldofTanks/comments/31ix3k/a_ceiling/cq24adp). It's a great way to describe the learning curve of tanks in general with "chunks" of knowledge that
  6. differienates a 400 WN8 player from a 1k WN8 player. He describes a few chunks extremely accurately, and I'm going to try to help you guys learn most of the "chunks" of gameplay.
  7.
  8. Under 700:
  9. Work on mouse control and knowing weakspots
  10. Learn what tanks can and can't do
  11. Learn where to go on a map (mainly where not to go)
  12. At this point in the game, you should try to trade 1:1 with your health, make sure your shots count and that goal should be achieveable.
  13. Mouse control can be learned from other games/computer experience; I recommend playing some osu! (osu.ppy.sh) to help with that if it's a huge issue. It's a rhythm game where you click circles to the beat of a song and it helps improve
  14. mouse accuracy.
  15. Weakspots can be learned via tank inspector and also online websites (http://wotguru.com/). When I started out, whenever I encountered a tank I had issues penning, I would go straight to one of these resources and figure out how to
  16. actually deal damage to that tank. Learn the penentration values of whatever tank you're playing and remember what you can and can't pen.
  17. Figure out what a tank is capable of (alpha, pen, reload, speed). A general concept of what each tank has is good enough to get past the 700 WN8 wall. Ex: T49 has derp on fast scout, low pen;high alpha; long reload
  18. For learning the locations of where to go, Rexxie/Okeano has a guide on wotlabs (http://forum.wotlabs.net/index.php?/topic/2760-okeano-rexxies-guide-on-where-not-go-to-on-maps-updated-11215/), alternatively wotguru also has
  19. maps with a whole article dedicated to them (http://wotguru.com/map-strategy/) (Might be outdated)
  20.
  21. 700-1600:
  22. Learn the tactics of the game and when to use each tactic
  23. Understand the importance of "conserving health"
  24. Try to get in positions that allow you to deal damage without recieving any in return
  25. Basic tactics to understand: Sidescraping, Hull-down, Armor angling, Wiggling, Overmatching (both shell/armor term and number of tanks term)
  26. Again, more knowledge on tanks
  27. Sidescraping is also known as "reverse angling". It's the term used to describe a way of peeking a corner by reveling your side armor at angles that almost always guarentee an autobounce. Here's an example in MS Paint describing
  28. the different ways people go out a corner. (http://i.imgur.com/IPrc7RR.png) The left-most tank shows his complete side armor and is easily penenetrated with a chance of the red tank also hitting the tank's sprocket (the first/last
  29. wheel in the tracks) which will cause HP damage and also track the tank. The middle tank hides his side armor and also hides his sprocket, however can be penenetrated with a high enough pen gun. The third tank is showing his side
  30. at an angle which will guarentee a bounce or non-damaging track hit. Be careful not to overangle or the opposing tanks will just shoot your side armor however. Also, sidescraping takes up a lot of room and you should be considerate
  31. of your teammates while doing so.
  32. Hull-down is the concept of using terrain to hide the hull of the tank, leaving only the turret exposed. This reduces the size of your tank, and turret armor is also usually the strogest part of a tank's armor. A wikipedia article
  33. on hull-down can be found here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hull-down)
  34. Armor angling is turning a tank so the opponent has to shoot at a steeper angle of the tank. Effective armor is calculated via the formula: Armor/cos(angle) so a 100mm plate at 50 degrees is equalivant to 155mm of flat armor.
  35. A guide to armor angling can be found here (http://wotlabs.net/articles/maxl_1023s-strategy-series-armor-facing/).
