  2.
  3. RayForce (also known as Layer Section, Galactic Attack, and Gunlock) is the first game in the Ray Series of games but is the middle one chronologically, as RayCrisis was the prequel. It was created in 1994 by Taito. This is reputed to be the first game to revolutionize the "two attack layer" system, where the player can shoot in two separate layers: the same level as the player and a lower level beneath the player. Subsequently, the player had to use two different weapons in order to attack enemies on those layers.

  39. Final thought:
  40. This PC version is a faithful conversion of the arcade blockbuster, with all the fun and graphical pizzazz intact. SHMUP veterans may find this game a bit easier than average, thanks to generous bonuses and power-up ships that appear from time to time to repair your ship. All in all, though, RayForce looks good and plays great - a wonderful start to a fun series that get much tougher later on.
