  1. Been looking into this EZQuake vs FTE speed comparison, and was wondering if you have time, could you help? It'll take about 10 minutes and I've broken it down into simple step by step instructions that even I could follow!
  2.
  3. Note: Before you start, close all other background programs (including skype, torrent, antivurus stuff, etc etc), and make sure you do not alt tab, or interrupt the test at any stage.
  4.
  5. 1. Obtain/locate any AGR .qwd (do you have any? if not let me know, or maybe make your own today.. otoh it might affect performance..hmm) Let's call it 'foo.qwd'.
  6.
  7. 2. Open up your ezquake
  8.
  9. 3. type 'vid_vsync' and check that it's '0', if not, type 'vid_vsync 0'
  10.
  11. 4. Make a note of your screensize (something x something), and refresh rate (something hz)
  12.
  13. 5. At the console type: 'timedemo foo.qwd' (You'll see a super fast replay of the game whizzing past and at the end you'll see some info)
  14.
  15. 6. take a screenshot of the final screen
  16.
  17. 7. Close ezquake
  18.
  19. 8. run the latest version of fte
  20. select ‘fast mode’ (Options->Graphics Presets) and in addition, at the console, type in: 'r_waterstyle 1', and 'cl_nolerp 1'
  21.
  22. 9. Go to the options->video options, and change the size and refresh so they match those you use for ezquake
  23.
  24. 10. At the console type: 'timedemo foo.qwd'
  25.
  26. 11. When the speedrun is complete, take a screenshot
  27.
  28. 12 email me back the two screenshots!!
  29.
  30.
  31. The main issue I had was matching the sizes and the refresh rate. Let me know if you have any problems or issues. This will really help measure the exact speed differences.
