- The Nightmares
- NMM
- NMM speaks to her army.
- >Nightmare Moon sat at her desk, penning a letter.
- >Her tent was sparse, holding only what was necessary for her position.
- >A pillow to sleep on, a very dim lantern, a foldable writing desk, and a map.
- >The map depicted the border between Equestria and her enemies.
- >It was covered in small figurines with a large amount bunched near each other.
- >Her jaw opened wide as she yawned, tired from her night's activities.
- >She had spent the majority of the night gifting the enemy officers and mages with nightmares, tormenting them throughout the night.
- >Sadly, it wasn't as effective as she had hoped.
- >They had learned about her dreamwalking over the course of the war.
- >Without a pause in writing she pulled her teacup over to her in her field before warming it up with her magic.
- >It had undoubtedly become cold since she last drank from it.
- >She threw the hot liquid into her mouth, scalding her tongue and waking her up.
- >One of her personal guards stuck her head through the tent flap.
- "We are ready your highness"
- >Nightmare gestures in acknowledgement and the guard leaves.
- >A few final flourishes and she signs the letter.
- >A burst of magic and it vanished into the flames of transportation.
- >With a small smile she stood, stretching her long legs, as she thought about her next task.
- >She never planned these events.
- >She had long since learned that it was much more powerful to speak with the passion of the moment rather than trying to plan ahead.
- >Her smile faded as she thought about her next task.
- >She exited her tent at a graceful pace, almost floating along the ground.
- >She had practiced this kind of walk for centuries now, it came almost second nature.
- >But it never ceased to entertain her as other's watched in awe.
- >A glance above saw that a storm was brewing.
- >Excellent.
- >The walk to the platform wasn't long, her tent was always placed close.
- >She climbed up it without a glance towards the crowd on the other side, reserving her gaze until she stood in front of all.
- >Her highest officers and strongest mages would be waiting on the other side of the platform, ready to confirm the plans one more time before the battle commenced.
- >Nightmare Moon reached the center of the platform and turned, looking across the crowd.
- >Silence but for groaning straps and clanking armor greeted her.
- >Thousands of pony gazes greeted her.
- >Every time she did this she gave pause, eyes flickering among them, memorizing the faces, memorizing the scene.
- >At the end of the day many would be dead.
- >The closest to her were the fresh recruits, joined with the main encampment only the day before.
- >They would learn to not be so close next time.
- >The furthest away, lined up in rank were her personal forces.
- >The Night Guards.
- >They needed her the least.
- "I am Princess Luna of Equestria"
- >Her Royal Canterlot Voice boomed over the field.
- "Though our enemies have given me a new name. Nightmare"
- "My officers tell me that it is appropriate for the demoness that guards ponydom from it's foreign aggressors"
- >Nightmare began striding across the stage, locking gazes with soldier after soldier.
- >Many would follow her to their death.
- >And many would.
- "I disagree"
- "The name is appropriate for the creature that defends her family from harm"
- "It is appropriate, for the one that defends her friends, that defends her siblings, that defends her children"
- "But that again finds it's faults does it not?"
- "Am I the only one here who defends her loved ones?"
- >Her voice boomed the question, demanding an answer from the crowd.
- >Many voices rose up to say no.
- >But not enough.
- "They are wish to rape and pillage our land, to take our loved ones as slaves!"
- "Am I the only one here who defends them?"
- >More voices rouse up in a chorus of nos.
- "They believe Equestria is filled with ponies, ponies that are too weak to defend their own!"
- "They believe they will have an easy time breaking us!"
- "They believe their only threat to be one Nightmare!"
- "We will show them what it is to face a nation of Nightmares!"
- >The crowd voices rose as one in a roar as their hooves stopped on the ground.
- >The only soldiers that were exempt were the Lunar Guard, who remained in formation.
- >Nightmare's voice boomed across the crowd, echoing in it's passion.
- >Thunder boomed from the storm above.
- "They will face us with all of their strength and they will fall!"
- "They will flee with all of their speed and they will fall!"
- "We will destroy them with all of our might!"
- "They will remember why they fear the Night and her Nightmares!"
