MT 214.2 - Complete - Needs TLC

Translator's Note: I love MT, I've been reading AndIsuck's translations http://pastebin.com/u/andIsuck and wanted to help out. Unfortunately I'm only capable of machine assisted translations, but I try to be thorough... I've marked any questionably translated lines. I plan to complete this chapter 10/26~. If this is shitty, I'm sorry. Please help correct it. I'm "Verse" over at baka-tsuki, please let AndIsuck know I'd like to do this chapter. This translation is free to use, host anywhere, ect.

New TL note: I feel pretty happy with my translation. I'd be surprised if I spent less than 12h on this. Method was pretty much copypaste into http://imtranslator.net/translation/japanese/to-english/translation/ and then meditate on the general sentence structure/meaning -> reword. Also my friend Past Destiny helped with a few key, confusing lines. This was a lot of work, but if I have the time next weekend I'll try doing another available chapter. MT FTW

　妹の話をしよう。

　ノルンは、最近は生徒会長として頑張っている。
　最近は生徒たちの大半が「生徒会長と言えばノルン・グレイラット」と認識している。
　もっとも、アリエルが生徒会長だった時代を知らない生徒の比率が増えたのも関係しているだろう。

　ノルンは人気のある生徒会長だ。
　一般生徒の中には、ノルンを気安く「ノルンちゃん」と呼ぶ者も多い。
　ノルンは嫌がっているようだが、愛称のようなものだろう。
　アリエルは頼られる生徒会長だったが、ノルンは親しみのある生徒会長なのだ。

　ただ、親衛隊（ファンクラブ）の影響もあってか、色恋沙汰とは今のところ無縁のようだ。
　学校のマスコット的な立ち位置でもあるらしい。

　無論、彼女は生徒会だけでなく、勉強の方も頑張っている。
　先日は、剣術の訓練で剣神流中級の認可を受けたらしい。
　俺の周囲と見比べてみると少々遅いが、しかし普通はこんなものだろう。
　魔術の方も頑張っているし、その他にもいろんな授業をとっているようだ。
　詳しい内訳は分からないが、たまに顔をだす学校で「ノルン会長ってどこでも見るよな」なんて言葉を聞いた事がある。

 なかなか一番にはなれないようだが、その分、いろんな分野に手を出しているのかもしれない。

Side Story - Coming of Age Ceremony

Let's talk about my sisters.

Norn has been working hard as the Student Council President.
Recently most of the students have come to recognize her as [Student Council President, Norn Greyrat].
The number of students who recognize her is comparable to Ariel's term as Student Council President.

Norn is a popular Student Council President.
In the general student population, there are many who call her Norn-chan familiarly.
Norn seems reluctant, but it's just a nickname.
Ariel was a Student Council President to be relied upon, while Norn has a more familiar feeling.

Just, partially because of the SS (Norn Greyrat Official Fan Club), she doesn't seem to have any romantic involvements. // ?~ //

She seems to be taking other various classes as well, and is working hard studying magic.

Although she didn't excel at one thing in particular, she has become well-rounded. // ? //

　実際アルスもおっぱいに包まれると幸せそうに笑うので、アイシャがそういった行動に出るのはわからないでもない。
　でも、ちょっと心配だ。
　胸を見せる相手が、赤ん坊ぐらいしかいないのだと思うと、な。

　まあ、心配なのはそれぐらいだ。
　傭兵団に関しては、うまいことやってくれている。
　傭兵団をオルステッドコーポレーションの諜報組織として、世界規模で広めていくと宣言した俺に対し、特に方法を聞くでもなく、別の土地に支部を作るのに必要な人材、建物、交渉の手配をしてくれる。
　リニアとプルセナの手綱もうまく握ってくれている。
　アイシャは最高のブレーンと言える。

　二人とも、それぞれ頑張っている。

Aisha has been sticking to Arus-kun like glue recently.

Aisha has the best mind for this sort of business.

　さて、そんなアイシャとノルンだが、もうすぐ１５歳になる。

　もはや説明の必要もないかと思うが、この世界において５年毎の誕生日は節目とされ、盛大にお祝いをする。
　特に１５歳。
　１５歳は成人とされ、貴族などは大規模なパーティを行う事も多い。
　成人式だ。
　この世界の人族にとって、最も重要な日と言えよう。

　そして、これまた説明の必要もないかと思うが、俺は二人を祝おうと思う。
　そりゃもう盛大にだ。
　オルステッドからドカーンと金をもらって、
　でっかい建物をドーンと借りきって、
　俺の知り合いとか、偉い人とかバンバン呼んで、貢物もガンガンさせて、
　世界で一番のお姫様みたいな扱いをしてやるのだ。

　そう意気込んでロキシーに相談して見た所、

「アイシャはともかく、ノルンはもうちょっと地味な方が喜ぶと思います……やめておいた方がいいのでは？」

　と、釘を刺された。

「ひとまず、二人以外の家族には話を通して、お祝いの方法を考えましょう」

　というわけで、ノルンとアイシャを除いた全員にて会議を行うことにした。

　書記のロキシーが開催の挨拶を遮って文句を言ってきた。
　雰囲気（ムード）を大事にしてほしい。

「いやでも、明かりが漏れてると、アイシャに気づかれるかもしれないし」
「そもそも、なんで隠すのですか？」
「なぜと言われても……」

　隠すものじゃないのだろうか。
　例えば、バレンタインの準備は男子に知られてはいけないらしいですし。

「隠していると準備も大変ですし、特に理由がなければ明かしていただいた方がありがたく思います」

　と、リーリャ。
　準備する方としては、隠していない方がいいらしい。
　まあ、そりゃそうか。こそこそ準備するより、堂々と準備した方が楽だろう。

「じゃあ、二人にはオープンにしていくという方向で」

　大々的にやろう。
　その方が、プレゼントを買う時も気にしないで済むだろう。
　アイシャは商店街の皆様とは仲がいい。
　あんまりこそこそにしてると、「こないだアイシャちゃんのお兄ちゃんがきて、可愛らしいパンツを買っていったんだよ」とか言ってしまうかもしれない。
　もちろん、パンツを買うつもりはない。
　喩え話だ。
　決して、先日、シルフィに履かせようと思ってパンツを購入し、アイシャにニヤニヤ笑いながら指摘されたから、そう言ってるわけではない。

「では、それぞれ何をあげようと思っているのか、今のうちに決めておきましょう」

　というわけで、今回の集会の議題は、プレゼントの中身について、という形になった。
　と言っても、各員、予めある程度は決めていたようだ。

Though, everyone already seems to have decided in advance to some extent.

　ノルンはパウロが好きだったし、成人したのを誰よりもパウロに伝えたいだろう。
　すんげー微妙な顔をされるかもしれないが……まぁ、そのときはそのときだ。

　ただ、アイシャに関しては、ちょっと迷っている。
　彼女がほしいものがわからない。
　アイシャが好きなのは、可愛いものだ。
　その凄まじい才能からは想像もつかないほどにベタベタの少女趣味である彼女は、ヒラヒラのフリルがついた可愛い服や、キラキラの安っぽいアクセサリを好む。
　そういうのを贈ってもいい。
　でも、最近は傭兵団で顧問料をもらっている事もあって、ほしいものは大体手に入れてるみたいだ。

Roxy planned to give Norn custom-made armor, and Aisha a trowel (magic tool) for gardening.

Of course, I did too.
I decided to give Norn a figurine of Paul I started production on a few days ago.
Paul loved Norn, he wanted to see her become an adult more than anyone else.
He would have shown her a heartwarming face... Well, anyway.

However, in regards to Aisha's gift, I'm at a loss.
I don't know what she would want.
Aisha seems to like cute things.
She has girly hobbies that you wouldn't expect because of her tremendous talent, she likes cute frilly clothes and cheesy glittery accessories.
That's also good though.
But, recently she's been receiving consultation fees from the Rudo Mercenary Company, so she can afford to buy whatever she wants.

「ボクは誕生日がわかんなくなってたから何も……あ、でもアリエル様たちから色々もらったっけ、服とか靴とか……」

　シルフィは服飾関係らしい。
　普段は着飾らず、ボーイッシュな格好をしている彼女に、せめてプライベートの時には、とプレゼントしたのだろうか。

「私は特には。ミグルド族にそういった風習はなかったので」

　ロキシーはそうか。
　一応、結婚祝いに帽子を送ったので、それを挙げてくれてもよかったんだが。

「私は、ルイジェルドに戦士って認めてもらったのと……ルーデウスからは、その……アレよ！」

　口に出すのも恥ずかしいが、俺とエリスの初めてのアレだ。

　素直に「ありがとうございます」と頭を下げてきた。
　ノルンのこうして素直な態度は珍しい……と、思ったが、考えてみると、ノルンが俺に対して刺々しいのは、学校の中だけだ。
　学校では立場もあるから、仕方ないのかもしれない。

　アイシャはもっと単純に「すごい楽しみ！」とウキウキした様子を見せる。
　かと思ったが、違った。
　むしろびっくりした顔をして「そっか、あたし、もう大人なんだ」と今更気づいたかのようにつぶやいていた。
　賢い彼女の事だから、何か思う所でもあったのだろうか。
　なんだったら、会の途中で俺が大人としての訓示でもたれてみようか……。
　いや、やめとこう。
　俺は自信を持って大人と言えるほど大人じゃない。

「なにかもらったりとかしなかったのか？」
「んー、誕生日だって言ったんだけどね。獣族だからか、みんなそういう風習とかよくわかんないみたい」

　とは言え、お祝いは各所から言われたようで、上機嫌のように見えた。
　しかし、商店街の人々もアイシャに対して何も上げなかったのだろうか。
　まあ、客とはいえあくまで他人だしな……。
　大体、お祝いがモノだけとは限らないからな。
　大事なのは心意気だ。
　祝おうとする気持ちが大事なのだ。

Norn went to school as usual.

「ねぇ、お兄ちゃん。準備する所、見てていい？」

　アイシャはそのまま、食堂に陣取り、会場設営をする俺たちをボンヤリと見始めた。
　リーリャとシルフィが厨房と食堂を行ったり来たりする様子を。
　市場に言ったエリスとロキシーが食材の山を担いで帰ってくる様子を。
　俺がそれぞれの手伝いをしながら飾り付けをしている様子を。

　黙って、じーっと見ていた。

　見られるとやりにくいが、今日の主役は彼女だし、見ていいと言った手前、ちょっと夕方まで出かけててとは言いにくい。
　もっとも、本当に見ているだけだ。
　アイシャは特に口出しをするでもなく、無表情で俺たちの仕事を見ている。
　途中、ゼニスが彼女の隣に座って、アイシャの頭をなでても特に言う事なく、じっと。
　途中、レオがアイシャの膝に頭を乗せても、特に相手することはなく、じっと。
　途中、アルスが泣きだしたので離席するも、すぐに戻ってきて、じっと。
　途中、ルーシーに「アイシャおねえちゃん、お暇ならあそんで？」と言われても、「んー、ごめんね、実はちょっと忙しいんだ」と微笑んで、じっと。
　ただただ、何をするでもなく、見ていた。

　彼女が何を考えているのかわからない。
　成人についてあれこれと考えているのか。
　それとも単に「手際が悪いなー」とか思っているのか。
　俺にはわからない。

Lilia and Sylphy moving between the kitchen and dining room.
Eris and Roxy bringing back mountains of ingredients.
Me putting up decorations in between helping them.

Today is her day, so she can enjoy watching; and although it's hard to tell while we're still in the middle of the preparations, everything should be done by the evening. // Fudged/reordered. //

As if to keep herself from interfering, Aisha watched expressionlessly.
Midway through, Zenith sat down next to her, and silently patted her head. // There's repetition on this + next 3 lines that idk how to TL. //
Leo also came and laid his head on Aisha's knee. // ?! Something about opponents? No clue //
Every now and then someone would leave to tend to Arus when he cried, then return.
Lucy came and asked [Aisha-nee, want to play?], and Aisha smiled saying [I-, I'm sorry, I'm actually a little busy.]
With absolute patience, without moving, she watched. // Prev sentences started with 途中 = Midway, and ended with じっと = patiently; so I figured I'd throw in patience here and keep things concise. //

I don't know what she's thinking about.

　そうしているうちに、時刻は夕方になった。
　アイシャに見守られる中、準備は着々と進み、完了した。

　飾り付けされた食堂。
　部屋の隅には、二人に渡すプレゼントが梱包され、山と積まれている。
　テーブル上には、冷めても大丈夫な料理が並べられている。
　メインディッシュはノルンが帰ってきてから作り始める手はずだ。

　あとは、ノルンの帰りを待つだけとなった。
　予定より少し遅れているだろうか。
　あまり遅くなるようなら迎えにいこう。
　なんて思っていたが、ノルンは宣言通り、早く帰って来た。

「ただいま戻りました」

　ノルンは、両手に抱えきれないほどの荷物を持っていた。
　左手には大きな花束。
　右手には木箱が抱えられており、中には反物やら、むき出しの髪飾りやら、何に使うのかわからない不思議な形をしたオブジェクトといったものが詰め込まれている。

Meanwhile, the afternoon became evening.
While Aisha watched, the preparations had been steadily completed.

The dining room was decorated.
In the corner of the room, presents for the two had been stacked, piled like a mountain.
On the table, food was put out to cool.
The main course will be started after Norn returns.

After that, we were only waiting for Norn to return.
I wonder if she's behind schedule.

Norn was carrying so many gifts she could barely hold them in both of her arms.

　学校で、色々な人に声を掛けられ、色んなプレゼントをもらったらしい。
　学校には、それだけノルンの成人を祝おうという人が多いのだ。
　さすが親しまれる生徒会長と言うべきか。
　変なものもらってないといいが。
　髪の毛入りクッキーとか……。

　ともあれ、ノルンを家に迎え入れ、本格的に会をスタートすることになった。

"I'm sorry I'm late.
I had a lot of stuff to carry back...
I was going to leave it in my dormitory, but I couldn't fit it in my closet.

　会の流れは、数年前に行った、二人の誕生パーティの時と一緒だった。
　俺による開催の挨拶。
　１５歳になったからといって何か変わるわけではないが、世間からは大人として見られるであろう、といった訓辞をたれる。
　そんな訓辞はやるまいとは思っていたが、やってしまった。
　つい口が滑って偉そうな事を言ってしまった。

　もっとも、俺を皮切りにウチの大人連中もそれぞれ「成人した後の心構え」を語っていた。
　これからはなにかをするのに家の許可を取る必要はないけど、責任は持つ事、とシルフィ。
　学ぶ事は忘れてはいけない、とロキシー。
　何か目標を持ちなさい、とエリス。
　リーリャは、感動もひとしおなのか、パウロとゼニスの若き日や、二人が生まれた日の事を語り、半べそになってゼニスに頭を撫でられていた。

The flow of the party was the same as the dual birthday party they had a few years ago.
I had a few opening remarks.
I gave a short speech about how after their 15th birthday the world will recognize them as adults. // ?~ //

Then Lilia talked about when Paul and Zenith were young, and when Norn and Aisha were born. When Zenith patted her on the head halfway through, she was almost on the brink of tears. // ?~ I didn't break this up to TL, seemed clear enough. Might be inaccurate. //

　その後は、プレゼントの贈呈だ。
　俺たちからのプレゼントに、ノルンは花が咲いたかのような笑顔を見せた。
　特に、ロキシーが知り合いの鍛冶師に頼んで作ってもらった鎧が気に入っていた。
　ロキシーはこの日のために、現在ゼニスの部屋に飾られているパウロの鎧によく似たデザインの鎧を特注したらしい。
　ノルンの体に合わせてサイズを調整し、女性向けにアレンジを加えて。
　エリスの上げた剣帯と合わせ、パウロの愛剣を腰に差してみると、馬子にも衣装とばかりに一端の剣士に見えた。
　この二人は以前ノルンが「冒険者になりたい」と言った事を覚えていたのかもしれない。

　俺が作ったパウロの胸像は、最初ドン引きされた。
　自信作ではあるが、３０センチほどもある石像だし、その気持ちもわからなくもない。
　作ってる途中はわからなかったが、現代日本人の感覚でいうと「もらって困るもの」に分類されるかもしれない。
　が、この世界には写真などは無い。
　像を見ているうちにパウロの事を思い出してしまったのか、ノルンは目に涙を浮かべ「大事にします」と受け取ってくれた。
　そうしてプレゼントを受け取った後、ノルンは言った。

「その、ありがとうございます。これからは大人としての自覚をもって、頑張っていこうと思います。これからも、支えてください」

　感激が胸いっぱいという感じだったが、堂々と、立派に言い放った。
　その言葉でリーリャがまた、泣き崩れていた。
　ノルンは、本当に立派になった……。

After that, we presented their gifts.
Opening her gifts, Norn smiled like a blooming flower.
She especially liked the armor Roxy had custom made for her.
Roxy had the armor modeled after Paul's old armor that's on display in Zenith's room.

Just by looking at the figurine, you couldn't help but remember Paul, Norn received him with tears in her eyes.
Then after receiving the gift, Norn said.

"For this, thank you. From now on I'm an adult, I'll continue working hard. Please continue to support me in the future."

　さて、ノルンは非常に喜んでいたが、アイシャの方はどうか。
　アイシャも嬉しそうにはしていた。
　だが、俺は彼女を見て、何か違和感を覚えた。

　無論、露骨に顔をしかめたり、嫌がったりという事はない。
　何かをもらう度に「うわー、すごい！　可愛い！　ありがとう！」とお礼を言ったり「ちょうど欲しかったんだ！」と嬉しがったり。
　表面上はいつもどおりの明るいアイシャで、この会を楽しんでいるように見えた。

　だが、なんだろうか。
　やはり違和感という言葉が正しいだろう。
　俺の目に映るアイシャは、どことなく冷めているようにも見えた。
　笑顔も笑い声も作り物めいていて、演技しているようにも見えた。
　そう思うのは、昼間の彼女を見ていたからかもしれないが……。

Now, Norn was happy, but what about Aisha?

　俺はお前の成人の証として、これを贈ろうと思う」

　自己満足の範疇だという自覚はあった。
　でも、なぜかノルンより、アイシャにこれを上げたかった。
　なぜかはわからない。
　ただ、もらって一番うれしかったものと聞いて、これが真っ先に浮かんだのだ。

「……ありがとう」

　アイシャは喜ばしい顔はしていなかった。
　きょとんとした顔をしていた。
　そして、何かを考えこむかのように、ペンダントをじっと見つめるのだった。

　その後、メインディッシュやケーキを食べながら誕生会を楽しんだ。
　サプライズもあった。
　日が完全に落ちてから、学校の生徒が訪ねてきて、ノルンへとプレゼントをおいて行ったのだ。
　今日、学校でノルンが１５歳の誕生日だと知った後、慌てて買ってきたようだ。

　そんなのが、何人も来た。
　俺が出迎えると、何人かは青い顔をしていたが、そこはキラッとルーデウスマイルで事なきを得た。
　やはり、笑顔は人類共通の挨拶だね。

　……ごめん嘘ついた。
　俺の笑顔を見た瞬間、連中は逃げようとした。
　シルフィが捕まえて、プレゼントは無事にノルンの所へと届けて、事無きを得たが……。
　無礼な奴らだよ。

After opening the presents, we enjoyed dinner and the cake.
There was also a surprise.
Before the night came to a close, more students stopped by with gifts for Norn.
They seem to have bought them in a hurry after hearing about Norn's 15th birthday.

Many people came.

　そんなのが何人もきたせいか、いつしかノルンへのプレゼントは山のようになっていた。
　対する、アイシャのプレゼントは、俺達家族からもらったものだけ。

　アイシャは笑顔を作ってはいるものの、
　その笑顔が作り物めいて見えるせいか、何やら傷ついているようにも見えた。
　俺が深読みしているだけで、アイシャは気にしていないのだろうか。
　そろそろシルフィに相談した方がいいのだろうか。

　なんて迷っていた時。
　ふと、玄関先が騒がしくなった。
　大勢の人の気配と、レオのワンワンと吠える声。

　オルステッドが大勢を引き連れてくるはずがない。

　なんて思いつつ、俺は玄関に向かった。
　外に出ると、ガラの悪い連中が大挙として押し寄せていた。

　ガタイが大きく、毛深く、長い犬歯を持つ連中。
　全員が、無骨な黒いコートを身につけていた。
　威圧感を覚える連中だ。

　だが、その姿はかなり汚れていた。
　怪我をしていたり、コートがボロボロになっている奴もいる。

　その筆頭に立つのは、この町でも一番のワル二人。
　二人はボサボサになった髪を振り乱しながら、言い争いをしていた。

"I wonder what it is..."

Eris grimly picks up her sword from the corner of the room. // ? //

「獲物の匂いを追ってたはずなのに、野宿中の冒険者が焼いてる肉に引き寄せられたヤツがよくいうニャ。あれのせいで獲物を仕留めるのに時間が掛かったんだニャ」
「ぐっ、あ、あんな所で野宿なんてする方が悪いの」

　リニアとプルセナ。
　二人はいつものように険悪な空気を作っている。
　ただ、これはじゃれあいだ。
　周囲の面々も慣れているのか、後ろに手をやって直立不動を貫いていた。

「あ、ボス」
「むっ、全員、挨拶ニャ！」

　俺の姿を目にしたリニアの号令で、彼ら一同、一斉に頭を下げてきた。
　その途端、彼らの後ろにあったものが目に入った。

　木の板に乗せられた。三つの塊だ。

"It's Rinia's fault, because she made a mistake with yesterday's work we were late nano~."
"Ah, of course Pursena would say that nya~."
"Of course. Because it was Rinia's fault nano~."
"I caught the scent of the prey, but that guy was attracted to the smell of our camp nya~. It took too long to kill because of that nya~." // ? Their speech is so annoying to translate. I added the nano~ just btw. //

　イノシシに似た魔物だ。
　この辺りの森に生息しているヤツだ。
　昨日から……。

「……お前ら、今日は事務所にいなかったのか？」
「大丈夫ニャ。最低限の人員は残したニャ」
「そうなの。今日はほとんどお仕事ないように調整したの」

　てことは、アイシャが早めに帰って来たのは、事務所に誰もいなかったからか。
　祝ってもらおうと喜び勇んで行ったら、誰もいない。
　仕事もない。
　待ってれば誰かくると思ったが、午前を回っても誰もこない。

　そりゃ、アイシャもセンチな気分になるな。

"Boss! We've brought gifts nya!"
"We've been in the forest since yesterday, everyone helped out nano!"

It, it was a huge monster.
A wild boar-like monster.
One you would find living in the woods around this area.
At least until yesterday...

"... You guys, you weren't in the office today?"

　プルセナの言葉を皮切りに、団員がもう一度、一斉に頭を下げた。
　おめでとうございます、おめでとうございます、と近所迷惑のような大声がこだまする。
　まるでヤクザの集会のような光景。
　頭を下げられるのは、一人の少女。

「…………あはっ」

　アイシャは笑った。
　その光景を見て、とうとう耐え切れなかったかのように、笑った。

"Ah, adviser nya!"
"Everyone, it's the adviser!"

I turned around, and saw Aisha.
She was looking at everyone in front of the wild boar.

"What, this..."
"Adviser! Happy birthday!"

At Pursena's words, everyone bowed in unison.
Congratulations, congratulations, their loud voices will disturb the neighborhood.
This scene looks like something from a Yakuza rally.
Then, Aisha lowered her head.

Aisha laughed.
Seeing that, as if she couldn't contain it, she laughed.

「そんなに、食べきれるわけないじゃん……あは、あはははは」

　自分でそう言うと、何がツボったのか、大声で笑い出した。

　団員たちは笑われながらも、
　しかし、アイシャの嬉しさはわかったのだろう。
　誰もがほっとした顔をして、朗らかな笑みを浮かべていた。

　今日はノルンの人気ばかりを目の当たりにしてきたが、
　アイシャもちゃんと、自分のコミュニティの面々には受け入れられているのだ。

「ねぇお兄ちゃん、せっかくだし、ウチの庭を使ってさ、皆で食べてってもらっていいかな」

　そんな提案に、ふと団員の方を見ると、しっぽを振っているヤツが何人もいる。
　獣族のしきたりは知らないが、普通は獲物を譲渡するだけでなく、自分も祭りに参加して食べるのだろう。
　ハラペコなのか、よだれをたらしてるヤツや、腹を鳴らしているヤツもいる。

「ああ、もちろんだ」

　俺のそんな言葉で、アイシャは満面の笑みを浮かべた。

"There's so much, I can't eat all of that... Wow, ahahaha!"

While saying that, in the middle of speaking, she burst into laughter.

While she was laughing,
everyone could that she was genuinely happy.
Everyone had a relieved expression and smiled brightly.

Today I've been witnessing Norn's popularity,
but Aisha has been accepted into her own community as well.

"Hey Onii-san, can I bring everyone into the garden to eat?"

　その後、ノルン目当てでやってきた学生を巻き込みつつも、庭で宴会が始まった。
　獣族の持ってきたイノシシが丸焼きにされ、
　商店街でアイシャに世話になったというおっちゃんが持ってきた酒が振る舞われた。

　近所迷惑だっただろうし、厳かな成人式ともかけ離れていたせいか、ノルンもため息をついていた。
　もっとも、ノルンも嫌そうな顔はしていなかったし、水を差すような事も言わなかった。
　アイシャが、心の底から楽しんでいるように見えたからかもしれない。

　宴会はしばらく続き、傭兵団の面々の腹がくちくなった所でお開きとなった。
　人々が三々五々、お開きになる中、ポツリとアイシャが言った。

「大人って、わかんないや」

　自覚を持って生きるといったノルンに対し、アイシャの言葉は子供っぽいようにも聞こえた。
　でも、そんなもんだろう。
　アイシャはアイシャの、ノルンはノルンの大人像がある。
　人の数だけ、大人と子供がいる。
　それぞれ、自分の理想に近づいていけばいいのだ。

「そうだな、わかんないな」

　俺はそう答えておいた。
　アイシャに対しては無理に大人ぶる必要はない、そう思えた。


　こうしてアイシャとノルンは、１５歳になった。

Then a feast began in the garden, Norn guided the stray students who showed up with gifts to join in.
The wild boar was put on a fire to roast,
and a liquor merchant that Aisha knew from the shopping district supplied drinks.

Norn sighed, probably because it was far from a quiet coming-of-age ceremony, and would disturb the neighbors.
For the most part Norn didn't have an unhappy face, and didn't say anything to dampen the mood.
Aisha seemed to be enjoying it from the bottom of her heart.

The feast continued for awhile, but became a party after the mercenaries ate their fill.
People left by twos and threes, until only Aisha was left, and she said.

"What it means to be an adult... I don't know, but it doesn't seem unpleasant." // TLC + Multiple meanings. //

Compared to Norn's self-awareness, Aisha's words sounded childish.
But, it's such a thing.
Aisha to Aisha and Norn to Norn.
As for people, there are adults and there are children.
As for Norn and Aisha, I hope they each get closer to their ideal.

"Yeah, I don't know either."

I answered.
I think Aisha doesn't have to force herself to act like an adult.


Thus Norn and Aisha became 15 years old.
