  1. Regarding the current moderation and staff behaviour inside of Tohjo Falls, we have some grave concerns with the conduct of both the room leadership and how that has translated in to the behaviour of the general room userbase. Our primary concern is the use of modjoin-invite as the only means for new individuals to join the room; this is a major misuse of modtools, and a bastardization of the rooms purpose. The original purpose of Tohjo Falls was to curate the facilitation of metagame crossover between DOU and VGC, and vice-versa. To increase the barrier of access to the room defeats that purpose. Adding on to that, the liberal use of the blacklist (different from the use of bans) also works to defeat that purpose, and also removes the opportunity of formerly poor users from redeeming themselves -- if the room is to work as a means to generate goodwill and crossover appeal, then this is an unacceptable use of modtools. We also have concrete evidence that there has been battle raids coming from the Tohjo Falls room, which is absolutely not going to be tolerated in the DOU community regardless of who is involved. Joining battles to spam, troll, or harass someone reveals a very low level of respect towards the community, and a general lack of maturity on behalf of those committing the act. And then to use the Tohjo Falls room to insult and degrade the victim of harassment is a disgusting use of what is meant to be a respectful community satellite.

  3. Lastly, to reiterate, creating tolerant and open communities is a vital aspect of growing communities. Being able to set aside personal feelings, whether positive or negative, and moderate in a fair, even-handed fashion is key to avoid driving people away. Toning down negative language -- a crime we are all guilty of at times -- is something that should be looked at, as coming across as crass, and rude only drives people away, regardless of intention. If there is not a reasonable degree of reform both within the rooms leadership and the behaviour of the Tohjo Falls community there stands to be a very good chance the room will be disbanded -- something both the tier leadership and the room community would, presumably, both like to avoid. We believe the room can be used as a positive mechanism to a) help draw in new members of the VGC and DOU community, and b) through cross-community dialogue, help increase the skill level of both communities. In the current state however, the room fails to serve that purpose. To assuage any fears that DOU leadership is "co-opting" the room, our plan going forward is to return leadership of the room once the room is back on track; we believe that through collaboration between the DOU leadership and Tohjo Falls, we can get the room back on track.
