  1. >There’s a loud ruckus coming from the small bathroom as Minuette prepares herself.
  2. >It’s very late in the afternoon and you didn’t get much sleep after Rarity’s late night visit.
  3. >Minuette slams the cabinets open and shut again.
  4. >You didn’t want this…this wasn’t supposed to happen…
  5. >She continues her rummaging.
  6. >This was all supposed to go to a specific plan in your head: you head back to Ponyville with Minuette, Rarity stays in Manehattan, everyone’s happy.
  7. >Well…maybe it doesn’t sound like such a solid plan now…
  8. >There’s a loud crash. Jeeze, what is she doing in there? Building a barn?
  9. >Rarity was supposed to stay away and you were supposed to start your life anew. Now that she’s in your vicinity again, everything has come to a grinding halt and started to deteriorate.
  10. >You can’t take this noise much longer. You clench the pillow down over your head.
  11. >You can’t take it anymore; everything boils over as she steps out of the bathroom.
  12. >”Hey, Anon! Do you know whe-“
  13. NO! I DON’T!
  14. >Minuette recoils at your outburst. Her sapphire eyes seem to glisten slightly at your words.
  15. >You try to calm yourself a bit; a sigh and a pinch to the bridge of your nose.
  16. Just…please…be a little quieter!
  17. >The full-throttle fire in your heart quickly quenches as you see a lone tear trickle down the unicorn’s cheek.
  18. >The stress that has accumulated over the course of your entire trip was just exposed, but at what cost?
  19. >Minuette is motionless as you sit up in the bed, mouth agape…her minty breath wafts in your direction.
  20. Minuette I’m sorry…
  21. >She rubs her eyes.
  22. >”Hey, it’s fine. I’m sorry too…I’ll be quieter.”
  23. >And so the two of you stare at one another in silent, cold hotel room.
  24. >You swallow.
  25. >All that’s flying through your mind is Rarity’s words.
  26. >She’s trouble. She’s trouble. She’s trouble.
  27. >Is she? Maybe you’re just making excuses to not get close to someone again.
  28. >You search Minuette’s saddened face but find no trace of evil.
  29. >None to be found…
  30. >She starts to sniffle and your iron curtain visage crumbles.
  31. Hey, come here.
  32. >Minuette wipes her eyes and joins you under the snuggly blankets.
  33. >You caress her cheek and wipe away her tear trail.
  34. >You conform your body to Minuette’s and lay in the dark hotel room.
  35. >Her coat is warm and smooth against your shirtless body.
  36. >You try and match your breaths with her…just another thing to share.
  37. >All of this is almost too much to take in. You don’t want Rarity to be here, but there’s nothing you can do to change that. You opt to make the best of things with Minuette instead.
  38. >She stretches next to you.
  39. Hey…wanna do something?
  40. >”Like what?”
  41. >All you can think about is Rarity. You need to get her off your mind and out of your life.
  42. >Minuette seems to finish your thoughts for you.
  43. >”Wait. Are there any places to get a drink here?”
  44. >You smile.
  45. Oh yes…plenty.
  46. >You’ve been a regular at nearly every tavern in Ponyville prior to meeting Rarity, although after meeting her is when you really should have gone.
  47. >Minuette giggles and leaps off the bed to fetch her scarf.
  48. >Drowning out your feelings with alcohol sounds like a lot of fun right now.
  49. Sure…let’s do it.
  50. >Minuette smiles warmly at your acceptance.
  51. >Neither of you feel sad nor alone, the usual reasons for drinking copious amounts of alcohol. No, you and her are on a different level than that.
  52. >It’s like an unspoken love of each other’s loner company.
  53. >Minuette runs to the bathroom and returns momentarily. Her eyelids are now dazzled with glitter.
  54. >A small touch to make her prettier, although you hardly consider an odd hour of binge drinking “going out”.
  55. >You slip on your jacket and button it up to your neck.
  56. >Minuette flicks off the light and meets you at the door before looking up at your clothed figure with her sparkling eyes.
  57. >”Is this going to help us? I mean, are we going to feel better after this?”
  58. >It’s a question that’s been on your mind as well. Sure, in the moment, everything will fade away and there’ll just be you and the blue unicorn laughing and stumbling back to your room. But after that?
  59. >After that is something unknown.
  60. >You look down and frown at her.
  61. I…I don’t know.
  62. >Minuette’s scrunches her face to one side and ponders aloud.
  63. >”I think we should just live in the moment.”
  64. >Simple words; a simple suggestion. As usual though, Minuette’s soft-spoken manner comforts you.
  65. >You smile and open the door, greeted with an unusual sight.
  66. >”Woah!”
  67. >Minuette’s exclamation is one that you’re having a hard time saying yourself.
  68. Yeah…
  69. >A thick blanket of snow that seems to have come from nowhere has peacefully snuggled into the small town of Ponyville.
  70. >Smooth untouched robes of white envelop the gentle curvature of the ground.
  71. >”It’s so pretty!”
  72. >You mentally gasp and look at Minuette whose eyes are wide at the scenery before her.
  73. >She trots a few feet into the coldness and stomps around a bit in the snow.
  74. >Minuette giggles at the crunching beneath her.
  75. >She’s enjoying herself in something that she’d normally hate.
  76. >”Isn’t it, Anon? Don’t you think it’s pretty?”
  77. >A small chuckle to yourself. She’s making the best of a bad situation.
  78. >You wish to be her.
  79. It sure is.
  80. >Minuette’s warm smile beams back at you, and you can’t help but do the same.
  81. Let’s go.
  82. >The unicorn nods as you walk to the nearest bar.
  83. >As you and your companion arrive inside, she shakes her mane and hooves of the snow.
  84. >”Brr! I’m glad we’re drinking soon.”
  85. Heh…me too.
  86. >You’re cold as well, but try not to show it as much.
  87. >You and Minuette find a table together; a booth in the corner of the tavern.
  88. >A waitress mare comes to your side shortly and you and Minuette order the first round of drinks.
  89. >Then, somewhere along the line between round 2 and 6, you lose track.
  90. >You yourself are just starting to feel the major effects of the alcohol, but Minuette is a little lighter than you.
  91. >Her eyes have become a little heavier and her balance is a little off. She knows she’s getting drunk, but she tries her hardest to keep you entertained.
  92. >”So yeah, that’s my idea! Whatcha think?”
  93. >You forgot she was talking for a bit.
  94. Uhh, run it by me again.
  95. >Minuette snorts and cracks up after failing to look upset at you for not paying attention.
  96. >”I dunno…all I’m saying is, have you ever seen Princess Celestia and Princess Luna in the SAME place at the SAME time before?”
  97. Well, actual-
  98. >Minuette thrusts her hoof onto your lips to hush them, lest you crush her dream.
  99. >She then examines the small ashtray filled with your cigarette butts.
  100. >”We really smoked a lot didn’t we?”
  101. >You look around at the table. If the waitress didn’t take your glasses away it would be as cluttered as the ashtray.
  102. Yeah…and we drank a lot, too.
  103. >She looks up at you, her eyes blinking lazily like a flapping butterfly showing off her eye shadow.
  104. >Minuette’s eyes seem troubled. They’re making the slightest movements that you’re surprised you can see in your state.
  105. Hey…are you okay?
  106. >Her ears fall flat a little. Probably the one question she didn’t want you to ask her.
  107. >”Honestly?”
  108. Well of course.
  109. >The din of the tavern seems to encompass your small booth. Minuette takes a few moments before answering.
  110. >”No. I’m not okay at all.”
  111. >A little blunt, but you decide to probe further.
  112. And why’s that?
  113. >Minuette lights the last cigarette in the pack.
  114. >After releasing a trail of smoke she talks to you.
  115. >”You know how after every one of these, you tell yourself it’s the last one? Maybe not aloud, but inside?”
  116. >You do. Even though it has nothing to do with Rarity, you do wish you could stop.
  117. Yes.
  118. >”Well, that’s how I seem to live my life; always telling myself I’m going to do things but never follow through with them. I keep telling myself to find a job I like, find a place to live that I like…”
  119. >She trails off.
  120. >”…find a man I like…”
  121. >She says the last thing with a little embarrassment.
  122. >Her small speech touches you. You want to do all of those things, too.
  123. >You extend your arm and take her hoof into your hand.
  124. Nobody is perfect at life. The biggest thing about living is making mistakes and dealing with them to better yourself. I mean, now I know to never get with a white unicorn that has a clothing fetish.
  125. >Your stupid joke makes Minuette hide her smile.
  126. >”How did that happen anyways?”
  127. >You scratch the back of your head in nervousness.
  128. Well, uh…
  129. >You clear your throat. Minuette has developed a coy look.
  130. >”What, did you see her naked or something?”
  131. >She releases a loud, off-pitch laugh that makes you turn red.
  132. N-no…
  133. >”I’m just playing, Anon. We’re all naked.”
  134. >Minuette flicks her eyes at you in a sensual manner.
  135. >While it’s enticing, you try to sum up the story to her.
  136. She liked my clothes. I was alone and she needed ideas, so we collaborated and, well, I guess you could say that I helped make her the monster she is today.
  137. >Another throaty laugh from your friend.
  138. Yeah yeah….how about your fiancé? You know, I don’t even know his name.
  139. >That’s not all you don’t know. You also don’t know why he’s okay with you being with Minuette this long.
  140. >Minuette’s eyes seem to narrow a little.
  141. >”H-his name? Well…he’s a doctor…”
  142. Right. I knew that already though. What kind of doctor?
  143. >Her face turns a little red.
  144. >”I don’t even know exactly. He always tells me it’s way over my head.”
  145. >That sounds like a real jerk thing to say to the mare you’re going to marry.
  146. >”It’s Dr. Whooves. I just call him Doc.”
  147. >That’s one mystery solved.
  148. And…he knows…about…us?
  149. >You aren’t sure if that’s the most appropriate way to define your relationship with Minuette. Are you really an “us”?
  150. >”Yeah, he seems to. I mean, I’ve mentioned you a lot to him when we talked.”
  151. >This seems to fit.
  152. And what exactly did you say?
  153. >Minuette exaggerates her thinking.
  154. >”Hmmm…that we have lots and lots of sex and smoke and drink to destroy ourselves all night long and never sleep.”
  155. Oh…
  156. >Even if she is joking, three of those things are true.
  157. And…he’s okay with that?
  158. >Minuette scoffs.
  159. >”Pfft, he’s too busy teaching interns and saving lives to support his ego to care, even if I did say that.”
  160. >You release a small sigh of relief, even though you wish there were something you could do to make you and Minuette more “official”.
  161. >It’s no secret the two of you have very deep feelings for one another. But there’s nothing that can be done about it.
  162. >You’re replacing our mundane hopes and dreams with mundane disillusionment
  163. >Minuette’s head starts to nod off.
  164. Hey! Wake up!
  165. >She blinks multiple times.
  166. >”Sorry…I’ve uh…gotta go to the bathroom.”
  167. >The unicorn snaps up and trots to that lavatory. You hope she isn’t sick.
  168. >You’re left sitting there alone with a lone burning cigarette and a drink.
  169. >After a release of a yawn, you look around you.
  170. >Older couples, friends, young stallions, and frilly mares are all enjoying themselves in each other’s company.
  171. >Just like you do with Minuette.
  172. >It brings a small smile to your face. Maybe in time, things will improve for her and she’ll find out what she wants in life.
  173. >It feels a little late for you…
  174. >You examine the bar a little closer.
  175. >”Anon!”
  176. >In a shock you snap back to the seat across from you.
  177. >Ms. Twilight Sparkle.
  178. >”Hey! Didn’t expect to see you here.”
  179. >She sips her virgin cider as you clink the ice in your glass.
  180. Oh yeah, just trying to warm up I suppose.
  181. >”I hear that!”
  182. >She laughs as she sips her drink through her crooked straw again.
  183. >You cringe a little on the inside, even though you know she’s just being friendly.
  184. >Twilight, however, is not alone tonight.
  185. >Trailing slowly behind her is the bashful pegasus Fluttershy, the party addict Pinkie Pie, and…
  186. >Of course.
  187. >”Twilight, darling, theses troglodytic barmaids here simply cannot make a perfect Manehattan.”
  188. >Rarity. You could have guessed.
  189. >Instantly you turn on guard at the pack of mares.
  190. >Fluttershy speaks up to you.
  191. >”So, Anon, h-here alone…?”
  192. >You look toward the back of the bar. No sign of Minuette.
  193. Uhh, not exactly.
  194. >Rarity huffs at your words and sips her drink.
  195. >”Couldn’t find a date? Shame…”
  196. >A little annoying, but you don’t want Rarity to get to you.
  197. No; I just don’t find it necessary to see someone at every waking moment. I like my alone time, too.
  198. >Rarity shoots a glare at you.
  199. >Just play it cool.
  200. >Pinkie is busy setting up a beer funnel. She can really hold her liquor for a girl.
  201. >Twilight notices the tension and tries to relieve it.
  202. >”Err, well everyone has their preferences. Will you be returning to Manehattan with Rarity?”
  203. >You raise your brow. Rarity must really mean to go through with this secretly.
  204. Uhh, no. I think I’ll just stay here for now. I don’t like to travel in the cold too much.
  205. >Once again, Rarity scoffs at you.
  206. >”Just can’t handle the big time like me, I suppose.”
  207. >There’s a loud crash at the back of the room but you barely pay any notice to it. You’re too busy focusing on keeping your cool.
  208. I can handle it when I know I deserve to be there.
  209. >By now Fluttershy and shied away and gone to the bar for another glass of milk.
  210. >Pinkie is reloading the tubing again as the small crowd around her begins to cheer.
  211. >Rarity and you are locked in a fierce stare until you feel a hoof wrap around your leg.
  212. >”Heyyyy….let’s go back to the room, okay?”
  213. >It’s Minuette. She seems a little more docile. The alcohol has taken much more of an effect since you last saw her.
  214. Uhh…feeling better?
  215. >”MUCH.”
  216. >Everyone around you silently stares at the dazed unicorn for a few moments.
  217. Well, I think now would be a good time to leave. I’ll see you later, Twilight.
  218. >Rarity lets out another noise as you help the stumbling Minuette to the door. She does call out to you though.
  219. >”I always knew you were unfaithful.”
  220. >You have to stop for a moment to see if you heard her correctly.
  221. >A few moments.
  222. >But you continue towards the door.
  223. >Minuette doesn’t follow however. You look back at her.
  224. Come on; let’s just get out of her.
  225. >Minuette shakes her head.
  226. >The blue unicorn whips around and trots firmly over to Rarity.
  227. >You see a look of worry in your ex’s eyes.
  228. >Minuette stomps to her and gets inches from her face. She speaks in a low but firm tone, probably louder than she means to, but seriously nonetheless.
  229. >You can clearly hear her scolding.
  230. >”You listen to me you little brat. That thing over there…that...human…”
  231. >Minuette points back at you, but not directly at you.
  232. >”After all he’s done for you, I’d expect a little respect from you. Or are you just that much of a bitch?”
  233. >Minuette hiccups and snorts at Rarity’s horrified expression.
  234. >No one has ever spoken to her in this way before.
  235. >You’re just as surprised as Rarity; Minuette is saying everything you’ve wanted to.
  236. >”So why don’t you just back off from him before he falls into your huge gaping vag-“
  237. >Minuette takes a quick moment to hold her mouth.
  238. >Oh god…no…
  239. >Minuette stands there for a few seconds with her cheeks puffed out.
  240. >Rarity covers her face.
  241. >Minuette reels her head back and thrusts her head forward in a loud exclamation.
  242. >”BLECK!”
  243. >You wince a little, but when you open your eyes, there’s no mess…just a squealing Rarity and a cocky-looking Minuette who looks back at you and winks.
  244. >What a relief.
  245. >Your unicorn friend leans into Rarity.
  246. >”Now, leave us alone.”
  247. >There are a few cheers as Minuette joins you near the door.
  248. >Rarity is steaming from the act.
  249. >Maybe one more thing…
  250. Hey, Twilight?
  251. >The book smart pony looks up at you from her drink. Even she’s giggling at her friend’s anguish.
  252. >”Yes, Anon?”
  253. Maybe you should ask Rarity about her opinions on your style.
  254. >You look at the mortified white unicorn.
  255. What did you say it was Rarity? Something like her having the fashion sense of an attic or something like that?
  256. >Twilight looks sternly at her friend before walking away.
  257. >You and Minuette exit the bar quickly and start to make your way back to the hotel.
  258. >Faster than the speed of time, you run, you get out of here; accelerating through the town, continuing to escape.
  259. >Not only is it cold outside, but you don’t want to be around for the aftermath of that little display.
  260. >You and Minuette make your way to a bridge that rises over a small creek. The water is just starting to freeze on the edges.
  261. Want to rest?
  262. >Minuette gives a lazy nod.
  263. >The two of you lean over and stare at the water.
  264. >”Y’know, I really did have to puke back there.”
  265. Yeah, I know.
  266. >Minuette smiles.
  267. Thanks for all of that though. You didn’t have to do that.
  268. >She laughs.
  269. >”No, I was glad to. She needed to be put in her place.”
  270. >Even a total stranger could see that.
  271. >You look above you.
  272. >The moon is full tonight.
  273. >”It’s pretty isn’t it?”
  274. >You look down at Minuette’s eyes. She blinks; her eye lids sparkle in the soft moonlight.
  275. It is…
  276. >You lean in and kiss the unicorn’s warm lips for what seems like forever.
  277. >After releasing her, you walk back to the room.
  278. > One day, the end of the season will come and the snow will melt.
  279. >But what you and Minuette share will never, ever, change.
