  1. === FRN Speedrun Notes ===
  2.
  3. These are notes for commentators or maybe even for people who want to get into FRN speedrunning.
  4. You should also watch Young's video about the speedrun strats in addition, so you see them in action.
  5. Young's Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJYdjmTL01A
  6.
  7. Basic information about the Game:
  8. - Name: FAST Racing NEO
  9. - Developers: Shin'en Multimedia
  10. - Release Date: 2015
  11. - Platforms: Wii U
  12. - Genre: Racing
  13.
  14. Basic Mechanics:
  15. The game itself has a total of 16 tracks which are playable in 3 different modes: Championship (CS), Time Attack (TA) and Hero Mode (HM). It also features multible vehicles which have different pros and cons.
  16. During the game, your vehicle has one of two phases: orange or blue. When you have the same color as a boost-pad (pads on the floor) or jump-pads, they will give you boost/let you jump. Otherwise it'll slow you down/doesn't let you jump.
  17.
  18. Speedrun strats:
  19. == RLG - Reverse Lap Glitch
  20. The RLG is a very interesting and a quite hard break in the game. Basically, the game has a bad checkpoint system which we abuse to trigger a lap, even tho we didn't even cross the finish line. To do this trick, you have to trigger all needed checkpoints further in the map and then go back reverse using the side-dashing technique (explained later). If you go far enough back, you will eventually get to the finish-checkpoint and trigger it.
  21.
  22. Note: You can drive backwards, because the game doesn't properly check if you go backwards since it will only check if you're facing forwards, ignoring your momentum/direction you're actually travelling.
  23.
  24. RLG's are ONLY possible in Version 1.0! V1.1 patched it :(
  25.
  26. == Side Dashing / Strave Dashes
  27. Quite simple technique which allows you to either build up speed very fast or helps to keep it (usually in turns, jumps, etc.). To do it, you simply have to mash the leaning buttons (LZ / RZ, depending in which direction you want to steer) in turns. When you want to accelerate/keep speed during jumps and other stuff, you want to turn your vehicle sideways (Still faceing forwards, otherwise it'll respawn you) and try to keep an specific angle, so you literally drive sideways.
  28.
  29. == Boost saving
  30. There's a neat little trick which allows you to save up boost very easily. When the map offers boost-pads, you try to boost right before it with the OPPOSITE color/phase. This would usually result into slowing you down a bit, but actually, it'll stop decreasing your boost-amount but still applies the FULL boost. This trick can also be used by crashing/bumping into a wall.
  31.
  32. Mode differences:
  33. Since Time Attack is the main category, I'll explain the differences to TA.
  34. We use TA simply because:
  35. - You get the most boost, so you can go fast longer
  36. - Easier to reset
  37. - IL-Tracking is very easy since it's simply all IL's in one.
  38. - NO AI!!!!
  39.
  40. == Championship
  41. Usual mode from other racing games where you drive against the computer in cups. Sadly, this Mode is very bad for speedrunning because of the following reasons:
  42. - Vehicle Ramming: When vehicles ram/hit each other, one of the two vehicles is getting slowed down ALLOT. Since there're nine computer with you, you ramm allot if you don't control it properly.
  43. - AI Rubber-banding: It doesn't matter how far you're ahead, the AI will always be around you. VERY bad combo with the vehicle ramming.
  44. - Less Boost: Why and what so ever, you get in CS WAY less boost as in time attack
  45.
  46. == Hero Mode
  47. Classic F-Zero Mode.
  48. - Boost <=> Health.
  49. - AI problems just like in CS
  50. - When you crash, it's over!
  51. - No time-tracking, even if it only consists of IL's O.o defuq?
  52.
  53.
  54. Misc Details:
  55. == Speed Settings
  56. This game has multible speed settings (Sub-, Super- and Hypersonic) which works like in Mario Kart (50cc, 100cc and 150cc). We obviously usually use Hypersonic since why would you go slow anyways?
