  1. Something different. Who knows where this will go.
  2.
  3. ---
  4.
  5. >14th January.
  6. >Greetings, fair diary.
  7. >My name is Princess Luna - Nightwarden and co-ruler of Equestria. You are to be used as a log for my thoughts and feelings should I ever feel the need to read them back to myself.
  8. >Farewell.
  9. > -Princess Luna.
  10.
  11.
  12.
  13. >18th January.
  14. >Greetings once again, diary.
  15. >Celestia has encouraged me to continue making notes after I told her that I had started a log. It was she that suggested I do so to start with. I did not understand why I should do such a thing in the first place, but she said that it is "nice to keep track of one's thoughts". I also told her that it had been 4 days since I had last updated you. She seemed upset at that.
  16. >Nevertheless, here I am once more. As I sit here by candlelight I am unsure of what to write amongst your pages. Should I merely write how I feel?
  17. >Content.
  18. >I feel content.
  19. >Life is going well. My schedules are met. My appetite filled and my subjects loyal. What more could I ask for?
  20. >I am beginning to doubt that this was such a good idea. Should my enemies get hold of this diary, they might use it to undermine me.
  21. >My mind is set. This shall be the last entry I make to you. It was a noble endeavour, but not one I shall continue.
  22. >Farewell, diary.
  23. > -Princess Luna.
  24.
  25.
  26.
  27. >19th January.
  28. >Greetings, diary.
  29. >Much to my embarrassment, I return. Celestia was irritated by how swiftly I surrendered my efforts to submit my feelings to your pages. She then reminded me that Equestria has had no political or national enemies for over 765 years. The last conflict in recorded history transpired over the rights to paint a dwelling a certain colour. 98 ponies gave their lives so that the colour red was victorious. A fascinating, if not futile squabble.
  30. >Once more I am confronted with the issue on what to write. Looking at the above passage, it seems that I can write a great deal about the day's events.
  31. >I will have more than enough time to tell you, since I never needed to sleep as much as my sister.
  32. >Weariness plagues me not.
  33. >Today I ate an assortment of fruits, I ran 100 laps around the castle, flew a total of 10 miles, and lifted half the garrison with my magic.
  34. >I feel that proper exercise is all I can do to manage my time and keep in perfect form.
  35. >A princess must always be ready for conflict, no matter how long peace time may be lasting.
  36. >I suspect the griffins will mobilise in the coming months. I gave the griffin ambassador a stern look today, and I fear it may topple the house of cards that is our relations with the Empire.
  37. >Celestia shall be informed tomorrow of my concerns.
  38. >For now, I shall return to my exercises for the upcoming war.
  39. >Farewell, diary.
  40. > -Princess Luna.
  41.
  42.
  43.
  44. >20th January.
  45. >Greetings, diary.
  46. >Celestia openly mocked my concerns regarding the coming bloodshed, and told me that relations with the griffins are "better than ever". She then invited the ambassador to the gardens, and spent the rest of the afternoon talking to him about poetry and eating confectionery.
  47. >I was not amused.
  48. >Sister's diet also troubles me.
  49. >She has been consuming far more sweets than I would deem acceptable, and as a result has gained a shocking amount of weight at her rear end.
  50. >I shall make a note to confront her on that matter as well.
  51. >I must confess, I am starting to enjoy you, diary. It is a tranquil thing to transcribe one's daily activities and concerns. It adds a level of clarity to them that is not gained through merely thinking about them.
  52. >Diary entries shall continue from this point on.
  53. >I shall retire to my bed now and indulge in some rest.
  54. >3 hours should be sufficient.
  55. >Farewell, diary.
  56. > -Princess Luna.
  57.
  58.
  59.
  60. >21st January.
  61. >Greetings, diary!
  62. >Today was a marvellous day indeed! For the first time since I can remember, Celestia and I frolicked!
  63. >I approached her as I normally would, and in front of the entire court, declared that all the cakes she had consumed were making her fatter.
  64. >How the nobles did snicker!
  65. >Celestia, on the other hoof was not as impressed, and chased me out of the room personally. Thereafter she pursued me throughout the castle, the grounds, and even took flight after me when I jumped off the mountainside.
  66. >Much merriment was had, and Celestia was looking surely out of breath. No doubt because of her diet and exercise plan, which I was shocked to find out didn't exist.
  67. >I shall remember to do this more often. Making Celestia angry is a fitting way to make her lose weight, as well as provide myself with ample entertainment.
  68. >Farewell, diary.
  69. > -Princess Luna.
  70.
  71.
  72.
  73. >24th January.
  74. >Greetings, diary.
  75. >My sincerest apologies for not writing. It has been 3 days since my last entry, and I have been occupied with events most troubling.
  76. >A disturbance in the city has kept me on my hooves.
  77. >I have received reports of strange activity in the lower levels of Canterlot.
  78. >Upon entering the dreams of my subjects, I have seen blurred images of a frightening creature.
  79. >Whether magical in nature or not, I am unsure. But the populace is becoming anxious. Tales of mischief and even attacks are reaching my ears.
  80. >The public has entrusted me personally to protect them from the creature.
  81. >Not only is this flattering, but it makes me feel rather happy.
  82. >Current mood: Happy.
  83. >Though I must question myself, should it really take the appearance of a potentially dangerous monster to make me happy?
  84. >Perhaps I am merely bored, and require a bit of excitement.
  85. >I admit that I have been itching for another rush since Celestia chased me around the courtyard.
  86. >My next update may be delayed, but I shall write as soon as I am able.
  87. >Farewell, diary.
  88. > -Princess Luna.
  89.
  90.
  91.
  92. >30th January.
  93. >Greetings, diary.
  94. >The past week has been a maelstrom of activity.
  95. >This creature, whatever it is, has managed to evade both the solar guard and the lunar guard. Celestia and I have urged our ponies to be calm, but it is difficult when it evades our every attempt at capture.
  96. >Celestia patrols the city by day, and I monitor the night. I have had my personal guard donate their services to the nightly searches. I have no need for protection. I am ready for whatever this creature can do.
  97. >I have been watching it through dreams.
  98. >It is always blurred, but it's actions have become somewhat predictable.
  99. >The creature has taken to ransacking scrap-bins behind local restaurants, and flees to unknown locations when seen.
  100. >I have yet to see it's face, but it has a very distinctive form.
  101. >If I may confess, the creature intrigues me.
  102. >It's form reminds me very much of the Diamond Dog, or the Minotaur. It stands on two legs, taller than a Diamond Dog, leaner than a Minotaur, but far more dexterous.
  103. >After perusing the information we have in the archives, I have found no references to such a creature existing.
  104. >As foalish as it may seem, I am quickly coming to the exciting conclusion that this creature might be an extraterrestrial.
  105. >The mere thought of a being not from our world fills me with glee.
  106. >I shall keep you updated when I am able, as always.
  107. >Farewell, diary.
  108. > -Princess Luna.
  109.
  110.
  111.
  112. >2nd February.
  113.
  114. >We caught the creature. Will write soon.
  115.
  116. > -Princess Luna.
  117.
  118.
  119.
  120. >4th February.
  121. >Greetings, diary.
  122. >The streets of Canterlot are quiet once more. The public is soothed at the news of the creature's capture. But jubilance is not in the air.
  123. >It was night when the guard and I finally cornered the creature. We had tracked every location it had used as a hideout and locked it down with a squadron of lunar guard, and thanks to our strategy, the creature eventually made a fatal mistake of returning to one of the locations.
  124. >I am finding it difficult to write about the creature itself because of what it actually is.
  125. >It is clear that it is extraterrestrial in nature. Not a single scholar or professor can claim to have seen anything like it, nor I or my sister.
  126. >It stands taller than I, and on eye-level with Celestia.
  127. >Upright. And proud. Almost defiant of us.
  128. >My previous remarks about it being somewhat predictable will have to be rescinded. One can only learn so much from dreams. Seeing it for myself and watching it's natural movements is something that, much to my chagrin, intimidates me.
  129. >I have battled dragons by myself. It was I that led the charge against the Bastion of the Grey Hound and toppled the growing Diamond Dog superpower.
  130. >I have peered into the darkest hearts of ponies and seen their dreams, and yet nothing is quite as unnerving as this creature.
  131. >Perhaps it is the implication that it brings with it.
  132. >A creature that stands as tall as my sister, is covered in muscle and is dexterous enough to manoeuvre more effectively than a pony.
  133. >It has hands, much like a minotaur, but it's fingers are longer, less bulbous and -far- more able.
  134. >It is capable out outrunning our most seasoned soldiers, and even myself. How it manages such a feat on two legs is astonishing. It is almost as though it was born to run.
  135. >Perhaps most troubling is it's diet. Having seen it root through bins in the dreams of ponies, I was expecting a herbivore, much like a pony.
  136. >The truth is much more chilling. It appears to be able to eat anything put before it.
  137. >What worries me most is the idea that there are more of them. Should an army of these creatures take up arms against Equestria, there is not much we could do to stop them on the open battlefield.
  138. >The silver lining of this daunting situation is that it appears to be unable to use magic.
  139. >I pray that it is the only one of it's kind.
  140. >Tomorrow I will begin a series of interrogations in order to find out more about it.
  141. >Current mood: Worried.
  142. >Farewell, diary.
  143. > -Princess Luna.
  144.
  145.
  146.
  147. >6th February.
  148. >Greetings, diary.
  149. >Anonymous.
  150. >That is the name he has given himself. As I sat across the interrogation table from him, I will admit that for the first time since the night of my banishment, I felt dread.
  151. >How he sneers at me.
  152. >His eyes watch my every move like a predator, I can almost hear his mind working against me.
  153. >I shall not yield, however. Nervous behaviour is unbecoming from a princess, and I feel that I got that across to him.
  154. >But he seemed to care little for my title.
  155. >It was a surreal experience. Having lived with my title for so long, it was odd to find a creature in the land that did not respect me.
  156. >Since Equestria's crusade and victory against any and all threats, respect is something that I had come to take for granted from all the races in the land.
  157. >I am dwelling on this too much.
  158. >He has compromised my thoughts. Perhaps this was his plan? To 'scare' me?
  159. >I shall not stand for this nonsense.
  160. >He shall learn to fear -me-.
  161. >Farewell, diary.
  162. > -Princess Luna.
  163.
  164.
  165.
  166. >7th February.
  167. >Greetings, diary.
  168. >Progress with Anonymous was slow. But I learnt one key factor that put my mind at ease.
  169. >He is the only one of his kind here.
  170. >To sully this positive point, I also learned that he has a slight resistance to magic.
  171. >Not much, barely even noticeable to an alicorn such as myself, but I needed to exert more magic than I was used to in order to affect him when he tried to launch himself across the table and attack me.
  172. >I do not understand what I did wrong.
  173. >Since his capture, our top zoologists and other animal experts have been working around the clock to find similarities between him with our own terrestrial fauna.
  174. >We decided that he was most similar to an ape. A primitive hair covered creature with hands. Far smaller than Anonymous, but similar all the same.
  175. >So I called him an ape.
  176. >He wasn't pleased about it.
  177. >Still, "terrestrial". It is a funny thought, to say the least.
  178. >Barely two weeks ago I was talking about Celestia and her weight, now I am dealing with otherworldly creatures.
  179. >The change of pace is exactly what I needed to keep me occupied, so I am pouring all my time into this new development whilst Celestia takes charge of royal duties and addressing the population.
  180. >I know for a fact that Anonymous is from another world. He told me himself.
  181. >He says that it's a lot like this one, but more technologically advanced.
  182. >I shudder to imagine how much so.
  183. >Tomorrow I shall attempt to gather as much information about his world as I can from him.
  184. >If they are a hostile species, and are capable of landing their ground troops inside the walls of our cities under our very noses, we do not stand a chance.
  185. >In light of this thought, I am increasing the amount of exercise I am doing.
  186. >150 laps around the castle should do it.
  187. >Farewell, diary.
  188. > -Princess Luna.
  189.
  190.
  191.
  192. >8th February.
  193. >Greetings, diary.
  194. >I had to suppress a smile when Anonymous told me that he has no idea how he arrived at our world.
  195. >Whether he is lying or not, I'm not sure. And I had to remind myself to exercise caution around the subject.
  196. >It could be a ploy to lull me into a false sense of security.
  197. >(Mental note: 200 laps.)
  198. >I find myself constantly wondering what he is thinking.
  199. >Much to our shock, our most prominent unicorns found that he is immune to mind-reading spells and charms.
  200. >Concerned by this, I hit him with a kinetic spell.
  201. >Thankfully, he was launched from his chair and landed in a heap against the wall.
  202. >At least I can hurt him.
  203. >This also led me to realise that he has a wide and extensive vocabulary for insults regarding myself and my appearance.
  204. >Most of the words I did not understand, but I shall be sure to have our linguists take notes on his unusual manner of speaking.
  205. >Language as a topic is something that makes a constant appearance in our talks.
  206. >We speak the exact same language, save a few words. And it makes me wonder how such a startling coincidence came about in the first place.
  207. >I am thankful that it is the case, however. Trying to learn new languages was never my strongest point, I left that kind of thing to Celestia.
  208. >She is fluent in over 400 languages, my sister.
  209. >I just don't know how she does it.
  210. >Farewell, diary.
  211. > -Princess Luna.
  212.
  213.
  214.
  215. >9th February.
  216. >Greetings, diary.
  217. >I am pleased to announce that I am completely at ease around our enigmatic captive.
  218. >Despite his alien appearance, meat-eating habits and his tendency to call me a "faggot", I find the creature a breath of fresh air.
  219. >Though I do not think he feels the same way.
  220. >He is wary of me. Not so much that he treats me with any kind of respect, but more that he keeps me at arm's length.
  221. >I think slamming him into a wall with a shockwave might have levelled the playing field somewhat.
  222. >Regardless of his wariness, he is becoming more civil.
  223. >He admitted that his actions were "logical" for a "man" in his position.
  224. >At this word (man), I became curious.
  225. >Reading back through my diary just now, I made a note that I didn't follow through with.
  226. >I did not ask him about his world in greater detail.
  227. >This is of vital importance, and I shall do so tomorrow. Now that he is more open about himself, I feel that I might be able to extract some more information.
  228. >Until then, I must rest.
  229. >I might just be lucky enough to get a 4 hour rest tonight.
  230. >Farewell, diary.
  231. > -Princess Luna.
  232.
  233.
  234.
  235. >10th February.
  236. >Greetings, diary.
  237. >I have been sitting here for quite some time.
  238. >The day's interview revealed startling information about Anonymous and his people.
  239. >Troubling information.
  240. >While he admits that the technology to traverse worlds does not yet exist, the technology his people does have access to makes our coveted hydro-electric dams look foalish.
  241. >Apparently, humans (that's what his people are called) can fly (through use of advanced machines that can travel faster than sound). And that they can see that which cannot be seen even with a telescope.
  242. >He claims that his people once shattered the very particles we are made of in order to wipe out vast quantities of -themselves-.
  243. >Finally, and by far his most far-fetched claim, was that his people can travel the stars.
  244. >I asked him what he meant, and he simply repeated himself.
  245. >After the interview, I immediately went outside and gazed at my beloved night.
  246. >As I looked at the ocean of black above me, I wondered if it was actually possible.
  247. >Celestia and I both move the sun, moon and stars.
  248. >Is it possible to actually go up there?
  249. >I once tried, many many years ago.
  250. >It was impossible to continue because of how cold it got.
  251. >How can his people possibly reach the stars? Won't they freeze? What is up there?
  252. >These thoughts have been troubling me much more than the legacy of war his people have wrought upon themselves.
  253. >Tonight I shall stargaze, and think on this.
  254. >For as long as I can remember I have moved them. But not once have I been among them.
  255. >I do not count my banishment. I was not conscious during it.
  256. >Farewell, diary.
  257. > -Princess Luna.
  258.
  259.
  260.
  261. >11th February.
  262. >Greetings, diary.
  263. >"We strap ourselves to a giant tube of metal and explode ourselves into orbit."
  264. >That was his explanation.
  265. >Then he laughed at my puzzlement.
  266. >I was -not- amused.
  267. >He then went into great detail about "rockets" and "Nahsah". I think I understood most of it. But he also told me something else that I am stunned by.
  268. >His people have landed on their moon.
  269. >I immediately called him a liar, an action I instantly regretted.
  270. >He grew angry at this, and started shouting at me. He had to be restrained.
  271. >I doubt he will want to talk to me for a while, so I shall give him the space he desires.
  272. >We have been making good progress so far, and I would not like to spoil it.
  273. >Celestia also tripped over a maid.
  274. >It was most entertaining.
  275. >Farewell, diary.
  276. > -Princess Luna.
  277.
  278.
  279.
  280. >14th February.
  281. >Greetings, diary.
  282. >It had been 2 days since my last talk with Anonymous, and I felt it was time to resume our conversations.
  283. >He was more than happy to, and even apologised for his outburst.
  284. >The human has certainly taken on a more diplomatic stance since our talks.
  285. >He hardly ever calls me a "faggot" now.
  286. >I dreamt of walking on the moon last night.
  287. >It was only a quick rest, merely 2 or 3 hours. But I dreamt of walking on the moon and smelling the flowers there. They were white, and I think that is why the moon is as pale as it is. That everything there is white.
  288. >Or maybe it is always winter on the moon.
  289. >I should pack a scarf should I ever choose to visit someday.
  290. >Anonymous told me more about his people's history. I was not surprised. More warfare. More violence. More bloodshed.
  291. >I wasn't -surprised- per se, but I was most interested. I asked him for every detail.
  292. >Never let it be said that I don't enjoy a good battle. And the human race has had many a battle.
  293. >They also believe in deities. I scoffed at the notion.
  294. >I was expecting him to become hostile again, but instead he grinned and said "You wouldn't last 10 seconds in Alabama."
  295. >I did not know what he meant, so I took it as a compliment and thanked him.
  296. >He laughed.
  297. >Farewell, diary.
  298. > -Princess Luna.
  299.
  300.
  301.
  302. >15th February.
  303. >Greetings, diary.
  304. >More talking. The routine has become just that. Anonymous has begun inquiring about being let back outside.
  305. >I quickly reminded him that the local population saw him as a monster.
  306. >He pondered for a second, then asked again with a much larger smile.
  307. >His sense of humour and seemingly reckless disregard for his own safety baffles me.
  308. >But I organised a walk around the gardens.
  309. >Under heavy supervision, of course.
  310. >I shall be personally escorting him.
  311. >He seemed happy enough with that answer.
  312. >I shared with him my thoughts of the moon, and what I think it is like there.
  313. >He was quick to tell me that there are no flowers on the moon.
  314. >A pity. I would have liked a vase of moon-flowers by my bed.
  315. >He was much more gentle when talking about it though.
  316. >I have noticed that his voice has a rather nice ring to it.
  317. >Perhaps it is because he is exotic, and new.
  318. >Farewell, diary.
  319. > -Princess Luna.
  320.
  321.
  322.
  323. >16th February.
  324. >Greetings, dairy!
  325. >The walk was a monumental success.
  326. >Anonymous was civil, and he even walked on the stone path so as to avoid trampling the flowers.
  327. >Impressed by his behaviour, I plucked him a rose and offered it as a gesture of friendship.
  328. >He said "dinner and a movie first."
  329. >I did not understand. Why would he turn down free food offered to him?
  330. >(The rose was delicious, in case you were wondering.)
  331. >The guards were extremely wary, and a gardener who was not told of the day's events stumbled into Anonymous.
  332. >He offered his hand, and she screamed, followed by passing out.
  333. >I was surprised to see Anonymous show concern.
  334. >Whether it was a act is unclear, but the sentiment was nice to see.
  335. >The garden seemed to calm him down somewhat, until he decided to run.
  336. >I was annoyed because I thought he would accept his captivity and try to remain civil, but before I used my magic to restrain him, I noticed his behaviour.
  337. >He was laughing. Running about and bounding around the many attempts of the guards to recapture him.
  338. >It took me a moment to realise that he was -playing-.
  339. >I did not think him capable of it.
  340. >But the human flowed like water around the stumbling guards in an almost dance-like display.
  341. >Despite the chortling, and the various shouts of the guards, I found the whole thing rather beautiful.
  342. >Can play be described as beautiful?
  343. >His smile was infectious, and despite my best efforts, I found myself enjoying the scene.
  344. >It reminded me of when Celestia chased me.
  345. >That was a good day indeed.
  346. >Farewell, diary.
  347. > -Princess Luna.
  348.
  349.
  350.
  351. >17th February.
  352. >Greetings, diary.
  353. >I find myself looking more and more forwards to the daily interviews.
  354. >Anonymous is far more interesting than any of the nobles or guards my sister and I surround ourselves with. He is witty, is not afraid to offend, and is exotic.
  355. >Can exotic be used as a word to describe something positively?
  356. >I was never any good at describing things I enjoyed.
  357. >Celestia blames my years of seclusion.
  358. >Speaking of her, she was overjoyed to hear that progress was going so well, and was even more delighted to know that I had a good romp around the gardens with Anonymous.
  359. >She then gave me a hug.
  360. >Celestia rarely hugs me.
  361. >I must have done something very right to warrant such an action.
  362. >I may be a few thousand years old, but I do enjoy a good cuddle.
  363. >Things are most certainly looking up.
  364. >I look forward to what tomorrow might bring.
  365. >Farewell, diary.
  366. > -Princess Luna.
  367.
  368.
  369.
  370. >18th February.
  371. >Greetings, diary.
  372. >Today, I finally decided on whether or not Anonymous should be let out permanently.
  373. >Given his behaviour, and his drastic shift from offensive monster to civilised human, I see no reason why he should not be let free.
  374. >Celestia shares my thoughts, and thinks that as long as I trust him, then she does as well.
  375. >He has yet to meet Celestia properly.
  376. >Introducing the two shall be the first thing I do tomorrow.
  377. >When I let him free.
  378. >I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight.
  379. >I feel more like a foal and not a princess.
  380. >How unbecoming of me.
  381. >Farewell, diary.
  382. > -Princess Luna.
  383.
  384.
  385.
  386. >19th February.
  387. >Greetings, diary.
  388. >The day has blurred by so fast that I am thankful I have you here to help me keep track of everything.
  389. >Where to begin.
  390. >Anonymous was let out, and was very thankful that his chains were finally off.
  391. >His clothes were dirty, and we offered to wash them for him, and he accepted the offer, but asked for a towel in return.
  392. >I was pleased that I remembered this part of our talks.
  393. >Humans do not enjoy being naked.
  394. >A most peculiar trait, but a conduct that he religiously follows.
  395. >He was given one of my towels. I am not sure how it found it's way to him.
  396. >But he looked quite fetching in dark blue.
  397. >As I mentioned before, I was quick to take him straight to Celestia.
  398. >She was in the middle of drinking some tea when I entered her chambers, and she was surprised to see Anonymous out so soon.
  399. >Nevertheless, the pair of them spoke at length with each other.
  400. >Sister was as gracious as always, and I could tell she liked him.
  401. >He even poured her some more tea as a gesture.
  402. >This only made her happier.
  403. >She pulled me aside afterwards and told me that she has the perfect place in mind for him.
  404. >Because of the fiasco he caused when he first arrived, the citizens of Canterlot will most surely reject him.
  405. >The plan is to send him to a place where Celestia can guarantee his safety, while being a place that is somewhat more accepting of newcomers.
  406. >I knew which place before it even left her lips.
  407. >Ponyville.
  408. >Anonymous is to be sent off to live there in his own house, where my sister's close friend Twilight Sparkle will look after him.
  409. >I hope she takes care of him.
  410. >I would hate for my Anonymous to get hurt.
  411. >Footnote: I didn't mean to write "my". Not sure how that slipped in there.
  412. >Farewell, diary.
  413. > -Princess Luna.
  414.
  415.
  416.
  417. >20th February.
  418. >Greetings, diary.
  419. >Current mood: Miserable.
  420. >Anonymous is now gone.
  421. >I would be lying if I said that I didn't miss him a great deal.
  422. >He was certainly one of the more exciting beings I kept in my company, and I shall miss our interviews.
  423. >It is hard to grasp how fast the time has gone by. It has only been a month since he arrived.
  424. >So I sit here, alone in my room, thinking about him.
  425. >How could I not? He is the most interesting thing to happen to Equestria in a thousand years, perhaps even ever.
  426. >But as I think more on the subject, I begin to question myself.
  427. >Is he the most interesting thing to happen to Equestria?
  428. >Or me?
  429. >Farewell, diary.
  430. > -Luna.
