  1. >The sound of a basketball hitting, then rolling, against pavement slowly nudges you awake
  2. >Your face is pressed against the ground
  3. >You push yourself up, groaning in mild pain, before dusting yourself off and trying to orient yourself
  4. >You head over to your basketball and pick it up, before observing your dark surroundings
  5. >You are Anon
  6. >You are twelve years old
  7. >And where the heck were you?
  8. >Last thing you remember, you were in front of your house, playing basketball with your friend Tiffany
  9. >She wanted to see you slam dunk, so you lowered the net and went for it
  10. >Even with it lowered, it was hard to reach, but as you did…
  11. >…that’s right.
  12. >Your hand passed through the net, as if you were a ghost, and you dropped
  13. >Dropped through the ground, deep, into some sort of colorful mess
  14. >It sucked you right in
  15. >That’s all you can remember about what you did last
  16. >And here you are, on the pavement, outside of what seems to be some sort of village
  17. >Gripping the basketball, you decide it best to head toward it. Perhaps the locals can tell you what’s going on
  18. >It’s night, but someone would be awake, right?
  19.
  20. >You walk into town. All the lights are off, and you’re getting a little uneasy about it
  21. >You’re in an unknown village at night, who knows what could happen to you
  22. >Nervous, you subconsciously begin dribbling your basketball
  23. >You’re pretty good at dribbling. You’re one of the stars of your local kids’ league
  24. >Some parents think you’ll really go somewhere if you keep it up
  25. >The airy thud of the basketball reverberates throughout the town
  26. >It crawls around each alley, house, and building, piercing the still night air
  27. >One by one, lights begin to turn on in the houses
  28. >…Oh no, you’ve woken everybody up
  29. >They’ll hate you, throw you out of town, leave you to die in this strange world
  30. >You begin to pick up the pace, going toward what seems to be a large tree in the middle of town
  31. >You can hide in or around that, pretend you weren’t even here
  32. >Suddenly, a light turns on inside the tree too
  33. >The tree is a house as well?!
  34. >You begin to hear murmuring, and doors opening
  35. >As well as the basketball’s airy bouncing sound
  36. >Shoot! Come on, Anon, stop dribbling the ball!
  37. >You begin to hear the sound of trotting hooves coming from near the houses
  38. >Oh man, they’ve brought mounted police, you’re really in for it now
  39. >You grip the basketball between your palms, fingers digging into it
  40. >Maybe you can bean the ball at one of them and make a run for it
  41. >You slowly turn to the sound of the officer
  42. >To find…
  43. >…
  44. >What are those?
  45. >Emerging from the houses are small, colorful p0nies
  46. >They emerge from the houses and walk toward you, but keep their distance
  47. >Their eyes are wide with wonder, curiosity, and even a little fear
  48. >”What is that thing?” you can hear one say
  49. >They can talk?
  50. >”It looks like some sort of monkey.”
  51. >”Is it lost? Poor creature.”
  52. >”Why is it wearing those clothes?”
  53. >They murmur and speak to one another, forming a small, but distant, crowd around you
  54. >You bolt your head around, trying to keep an eye on all of them
  55. >You must look like a scared animal to them
  56. >”I’ve never seen anything like it…” you hear from behind you
  57. >You turn your head to the voice
  58. >A purple p0ny with a horn sticking from her head has emerged from the tree, slowly approaching you
  59. >”I know somep0ny who might be able to help you. Do you want to come with me inside? I’ll be sure to contact her.”
  60. >She extends her hoof toward you
  61. >”She could surely take care of you.”
  62. >You don’t know what to think. What was this thing offering you?
  63. Oh, um… thank you, but I can take care of, um, myself… I mean…
  64. >The entire group of p0nies gasps
  65. >The purple one reels her hoof back in shock
  66. >”Y-you can talk!?”
  67. >You lower your basketball to your hip, ever so slightly more comfortable now
  68. >You smile nervously and laugh
  69. Yeah, I can… I’m a little more curious as to how you can…
  70. >The p0nies all begin talking rapidly amongst themselves
  71. >You have never before felt so on display, not even during a basketball game
  72. >The purple one is still in shock, but eventually regains her composure
  73. >”Please… come inside, I have so much to ask you!”
  74. >Do you really want to go inside a stranger’s house?
  75. >Well, it’s a talking purple p0ny, how bad can it be?
  76. Um, sure, I guess.
  77.
  78. >Her name is Twilight Sparkle, you discover
  79. >And she’s been asking you questions nonstop
  80. >She’s sitting on the floor, firing away, while you sit up on her couch
  81. >At the very edge
  82. >To keep your distance from that purple monster
  83. >He doesn’t look too dangerous, but… come on, he’s a dragon
  84. >You think he may be a little offended from your distance
  85. >But oh well
  86. >”So Earth? What a strange name! And it’s full of people like yourself? You ‘humans’?”
  87. Yeah, just like me. Well, some bigger. I’m still a kid, really.
  88. >She scribbles something down on paper
  89. >…with her horn’s levitating powers
  90. >She told you the very basics of magic, but you still find it a little hard to believe
  91. >”How old are you, then?” she asks, eyes brimming with curiosity
  92. I’m twelve.
  93. >”And how long do humans usually live?”
  94. Umm… it depends on a lot of stuff, but usually around 85 years, though some make it to 100, I think…
  95. >For some reason, you feel like you’re misleading her. You’re just saying what you know
  96. >”Are you the biggest you get?”
  97. Oh, no, I have a lot of growing to do.
  98. >She’s so fascinated
  99. >”This is so crazy! I’ll have to send a letter to the Princess right away!”
  100. >She claps her hooves together excitedly
  101. >You shift a little in your seat. It’s odd being the exotic creature
  102. >”Spike! Take a letter!”
  103. >The purple dragon groans and hops off the couch
  104. >”You just wait here, okay Mr. …”
  105. >She pauses
  106. >”Oh, I’m sorry, with all this excitement, I think I’ve forgotten to even ask your name!”
  107. >You can’t help but laugh a little
  108. Anonymous, but most people just call me Anon.
  109. >”Okay Anon, make yourself comfortable, Spike and I will just be in the other room for a bit.”
  110. >She trots off with her dragon companion down the stairs
  111. >You hear the faint echo of “Dear Princess Celestia…” as she descends
  112. >And with that, you’re alone in this library-tree-house place
  113. >You inhale deeply, then exhale sharply
  114. >What a strange situation you’ve ended up in
  115. >Talking p0nies, a different world, a country called Equestria
  116. >It’s all so much to take in
  117. >You wonder what Tiffany would think of this whole situation
  118. >Tiffany
  119. >You wonder if she even knows what’s happened. She’s probably terrified that you’ve disappeared. Maybe told your parents, who’ve alerted the police… it’s been hours at this point
  120. >You hate making Tiffany worry
  121. >Would you ever even see her again?
  122. >…
  123. >Of course you would. Get that thought out of your head
  124. >You start dribbling your basketball absentmindedly
  125. >It’s become a habit of yours whenever your mind wanders
  126. >Suddenly, there’s a knock on the door
  127. >Your head bolts to it
  128. >What do you do in this situation?
  129. >Do you bug Ms. Sparkle downstairs? No, that would be rude
  130. >Do you answer it yourself? No, that’s rude too, this isn’t your house
  131. >So instead, you sit there awkwardly as the guest continues to knock
  132. >”Twilight? Are you home?” you hear
  133. >You don’t answer. Man, this is awkward
  134. >The door creaks open
  135. >You see a little bit of pink and yellow peek its way inside
  136. >A teal eye peers inside, then locks with your own eyes
  137. >Oh boy, things just got real weird
  138. >This guest pushes the door open slightly more, inviting herself in, before closing it again
  139. >She stares at you with absolute bewilderment and wonder
  140. >You just sit there
  141. >Anon, come on, do something!
  142. H-hi. Um, I’m Anon… Ms. Sparkle is downstairs. Do you want to, um… wait with me?
  143. >Her eyes widen, staring, her mouth gaping open
  144. >She’s a soft yellow color with a long pink mane. You think she has… wings? That must be a pegasus, like what Ms. Sparkle was saying
  145. >She’s still not moving. Did you do something wrong?
  146. >”A-are you the creature that… um, everyp0ny’s been talking about?”
  147. >You place the basketball next to you and try to sound more inviting
  148. >You clear your throat
  149. Yeah, that’s me. Anon, the one and only human!
  150. >You give a big smile
  151. >She hides a bit behind her mane
  152. >Man, this p0ny is awkward
  153. Why not wait for Ms. Sparkle with me?
  154. >You pat your hand next to you, inviting her to the couch
  155. >She pokes her head out and gives a small smile
  156. >That’s the way. Be polite and inviting, and everyone will like you
  157. >Er… everyp0ny
  158. >She walks over slowly and takes a seat next to you
  159. >She still seems so nervous
  160. >You have a thought…
  161. >Well, you do it with dogs and cats… and these p0nies are about the same size… maybe…?
  162. >You react over and place your hand on her head, petting it down her back
  163. >She lets out a soft “eep!”, stiffening up
  164. >You dart your hand away
  165. Oh, I’m sorry.
  166. >She blushes a little. Man, that’s pretty cute.
  167. >”N-no, that’s fine… actually, um…”
  168. >She really is a shy one
  169. >”If you could, um… *mumble *, if that’s okay with you…”
  170. Pardon?
  171. >”If you could… do that some more…?”
  172. >You laugh a little. Guess you were right
  173. >You begin petting her again
  174. >She vibrates softly, then rests her head down on your lap as you continue
  175. >Looks like she’s warming up to you
  176. >In almost no time at all, you begin to hear hoofsteps rise from the stairs, reverberating throughout the house
  177. >There’s Ms. Sparkle again, returning with Spike
  178. >”So the letter’s sent! I’m sure the princess will be—Fluttershy!”
  179. >She speaks excitedly
  180. >”Just the mare I wanted to see, great timing!”
  181. >She just now takes notice to her comfortable position with you
  182. >”And already such great friends! I knew you two would get along!”
  183. >You wonder how. If it weren’t for you, this p0ny probably wouldn’t have budged from the door.
  184. >Maybe she was referring to your outgoing personality? But she hardly knows you. In fact, you’ve been nothing but shy as well since you’ve been here
  185. >”O-oh yes. I think Anon here and I will get along great…” the p0ny, Fluttershy, says, gazing up to you
  186. >Something seems almost… off.
  187. >”Anon, I invited Fluttershy here earlier to talk with us. She’s great with anim—“
  188. >She cuts herself off
  189. >”…other creatures. I think she’ll be a great friend to have here in Equestria.”
  190. >She shows a bright smile
  191. >You look down to the yellow p0ny. She’s beaming happily as you continue to pet her
  192. >She seems nice enough… you don’t even know how long you’ll be here
  193. Oh well…
  194. >You grab your basketball and shoot it at a small, basket-looking bed up the stairs
  195. >It lands directly in it. You can’t help but smirk
  196. …worth a shot.
  197.
  198. End of Part 1
