  1. Tomorrow's Doom:
  2. Updated as of February 3rd, 2013
  3.
  4. An OC/Hisao tale, written as a pseudo-route. Started as a basic OC character creation as part of my interaction with the KS forums, I started writing the actual background and outline late in June 2012, and released the first chapter on July 3rd, 2012. Since then, it has grown into an extensive tale, all of which is available through my pastebin (linked below) and on the renai thread (linked below).

  59. Alternatively, this entire tale is posted on the renai (KS forums):
  60. http://ks.renai.us/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=6687
  61. Personally, I prefer the formatting options available there. My protagonist's thought bubbles are italicized for clarity on the renai, which cannot be done on pastebin, and, since it's a forum, people can leave comments on the grammar, story points, and whatever else. All of which are major reasons why I started this in the first place--for feedback on my writing. I usually respond to all comments there, and I appreciate any and all criticism, which you can't really get from pastebin.
  62.
  63. It's also available in its entirety on fanfiction.net here: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8416669/1/Tomorrow-s-Doom
  64. The version there is the most likely to see sweeping changes when I go back through to do a final edit after completing the tale. That version is formatted directly from my own files, rather than being copied and pasted like on the forums, or pastebin, but it may also be missing some tweaks that were recommended by forum comments, and some later edits that I haven't put back into my own files.
  65.
  66. There's some amount of disparity between all three postings, I've concluded, but the basic structure is the same throughout. Perhaps at some point I'll shore them all up and the differences will be resolved, but for now you'll just have to accept that not everything in all three versions is the same.

  68. Author's Notes:
  69. Premise:
  70. Using a peripheral character who was never named and never spoke, who enters the 3-3 classroom to discuss festival business with Shizune during Act 1, I invented Aiko Kurai, the Class Representative from room 3-1. Written from her perspective, the tale opens on Thursday morning--a few days prior to the Yamaku festival--and picks up from there. In terms of deviating from the original story, I managed her introduction, and set Hisao on a path toward romancing her using just one point of deviation.
  71.
  72. World-building:
  73. Such that Aiko inhabits a room that is completely left out of all descriptions in KS (apart from it being mentioned that it's mostly for deaf students), I had a lot of opportunities to expand on Yamaku's student body. Most of them barely get mentioned, and exist as peripheral characters like the majority of 3-3 students, but several of them--her closest friends especially--repeatedly intersect with the story. Among them are her best friend and dorm hall-mate, Amaya Yamamoto, the brotherly orphan and other best friend, Tadao Yoshida, her former sign-language tutor, Naoko Yamada, a recent transfer student, Yoko Guidot, and a long-time friend, Kenta Tomiya.
  74. She also interacts with some of the original characters as well; chiefly Shizune and Misha(she's associated with the Student Council being the 3-1 class rep), but also Emi (who lives on the same floor in the dorms), and a little bit of Rin (mostly via Emi). Hanako is only mentioned briefly, largely because she's a perpetual hermit and even her own classroom barely notices her, and Lilly just isn't in Aiko's purview--I have no doubt she knows of her, but doesn't really get any chance for interaction. There are also some mentions, and or appearances, of other fanon, and tertiary characters (Miki, Suzu, Taro, Rika, and others).
  75. Since Aiko is in a different classroom, and after reading up on Japanese school structure, I invented her homeroom mathematics teacher, Ryota Ito, and created a history teacher from room 3-4, Kumiko Owaku. Based on my research, I surmised that the teachers change classroom as the day goes on, rather than the students, and thus each covers a 90-minute block of the 6-hour school-day, rotating sequentially. Thus, class 3-1 starts with Ito's Calculus lessons, then English with Miyagi, followed by an hour for lunch, Science with Mutou, and finally History class with Owaku. Other classrooms follow the same sequence, but start and end differently.
  76. As Aiko's background includes swimming, I also expanded on parts of the school itself; specifically, I use the mentioned indoor pool as part of the story, giving it a full description, and some staff. Other locations are added to the town and city beyond, and I make use of fanon references in some cases. Everything gets faithfully described, even things readers should know from the VN, because my objective was to write it in such a way that anyone could follow along, and see these people and places without having ever read KS, or any of the associated fanon works.
  77.
  78. Length:
  79. The average route in the VN went on for only ~100,000 words, which is just about the length of a paper-back novel these days--in total there are ~550,000 words in the VN. Without intending to, and simply because of the weight of detail I've included in both the story itself and describing the world, as I write this description, there are over 300,000 words committed to the totality of Tomorrow's Doom (5/19/2013). On average, each chapter runs for ~10,000 words (it's a little less than that), and there are over 35 chapters completed.
  80. What does all that mean: It's a lot to read. However, I'm told it goes by quickly. Consider this a disclaimer, as I've gotten reports of neck cramps and lost sleep from people who started at the beginning and couldn't stop reading. Use caution if you choose to read it all at once: have fluids and food available, plan bathroom breaks, and ensure you won't be disturbed.
  81.
  82. Explicit content:
  83. As it does eventually reach that point, I should warn that the story contains fully-described romantic scenes. Around that, there are also plenty of adult references, innuendo, sexual themes, and other such tomfoolery laced into the subplots, and my protagonist's perpetual internal monologue, from as early as Act 2. My treatment of such things is (in my opinion) rather visceral in its description, but hinges on being part of the natural development of the story, rather than simply thrown in for entertainment value--opinions may vary.
  84.
  85. Related One-Shots:
  86. Little Swimmer:
  87. An exploration into a piece of Aiko's childhood, told through her father's eyes. Referenced in the main story several times, this short tale takes place about 10 years before the start of Tomorrow's Doom.

  90.
  91. Monday For Won:
  92. Originally released on 4/1/2013, and with all the pomp and circumstance of a regular chapter, this short was written as a false ending to the story--an April Fools joke. It's a nod to the Bob Newhart show.
