 ゼニスの実家はでかかった。
　想像通りといった感じか。
　大きな門、門の両脇にたつ獅子の像、門から入り口へと続く長い石畳の道、道の途中にある噴水、変な形に刈り揃えられた芝。
　そして、その奥に白く綺麗なお屋敷が鎮座している。

　貴族の家って言えば、こんな感じだよね。
　というイメージがあれば、まさにそんな感じだ。

　場所は居住区の、貴族街。
　中でも、特に高貴な者の家屋が立ち並ぶ場所だ。
　アスラの貴族街に雰囲気が似ている。


Chapter 218 : Latreia Residence

Zenith's parent's house was huge.
Just as I had imagined it to be.
A large gate, two lion statues standing on both sides, a long stone-paved path leading from the gate to the entrance, a fountain in the middle of the path, and a green lawn cut in a strange form.
And inside, as if enshrined a white beautiful mansion was honorably standing.

It really feels as an aristocrat's house.

　アリエルからもらったものだから、あまり自慢げに話すものでもないが、
　これと同じぐらいの屋敷を持っている。
　こっちの方が清廉とした雰囲気を持っているが、豪華さでは一緒なはず。
　だから何も恐れる事はない。
　ビビってねぇぞ。


Nevertheless, it's a huge house.
Cliff's house was a disappointment but Zenith's house was as expected.
Although, I for one also posses something as this mansion in the Asura Kingdom.
Since it was something I received from Ariel, I can't be too boastful about it.
At least I posses something as this mansion.
In a way it holds an atmosphere of integrity, but it should be identical in extravagance.
Therefore, it's nothing to be afraid of.
I don't feel nervous.

　隣で、アイシャがため息をついた。
　嫌な顔で屋敷の方を見ている。

　現在、俺達は門の前で待っている。
　家から持ってきた貴族っぽい服に身を包んだ俺と、メイド服のアイシャ。
　そして俺同様、貴族っぽい服装を着せたゼニスである。

　俺たちは入り口にいた衛兵と思しき人物に取り次ぎを頼んだ。
　手紙を見せようとしたが、衛兵はゼニスの顔を見てすぐに屋敷へと飛んでいった。
　まだ、戻ってはこない。

　でも、俺は個人的に嫌なヤツには耐性がある方だと思う。
　俺自身、生前は最低なヤツだったからな。
　それに比べれば、大抵のヤツは許容できる。
　だから大丈夫なはずだ。

　仮に我慢できないレベルの相手でも、
　ゼニスの近況を話して、一緒に嘆いて悲しむ事ぐらいは出来る。
　それ以上の事は無理かもしれないが、それだけでも十分だ。

「あ」

　なんて考えていると、屋敷の方から数名の男女が戻ってきた。
　先ほどの衛兵だけではない。
　メイド姿の人物や、執事姿の人物まで。
　総勢で１２名ほどが急ぎ足でこちらに向かってくる。

　それに合わせて、メイドも頭を下げる。

「ゼニス様。ようこそお帰りくださいました。我ら一同、心よりお待ち申し上げておりました」

　頭はゼニスへと下げられていた。
　だが、ゼニスはいつもどおり、放心した顔で、彼らを視界にいれることはない。

「では、ルーデウス様。大奥様がお待ちです。こちらへ」
「はい。よろしくお願いします」


The maids, lined up in two rows along the edge of the path before the gate.
The butlers standing in the front, lined up evenly from shoulder to shoulder facing towards us.
It's just like an "honorable greeting formation" often seen in a manga of a rich system. //

　アイシャには一言も無い。
　メイドの格好した奴はメイドとして扱うという事だろうか。
　なら、アイシャには別の格好をさせておくべきだったな。
　俺の妹っぽい格好だ。
　フリフリのドレスだ。

　などと考えつつ、長い道を抜けて、玄関から中へと入れてもらう。
　中はやはり上品な調度品であふれていた。
　無論、アスラ王城やペルギウス城とは比べ物にならないが、趣味は悪くないと思う。


The butler while not in the mood bowed down to me and then turned around on his feet to guide us.

　その後、自分も隣に座る。
　ふと見ると、アイシャが椅子の脇に立っていた。

　そのまま、三人で会話もなく待つ。
　こうしていると、フィリップの所に面接にいった時の事を思い出す。
　あの時は、サウロスがいきなり登場して、怒鳴るだけ怒鳴って帰っていった。
　懐かしいな。
　あの時のようにうまくやれればいいが……。
　サウロスの時はどうしたっけな。
　確か、先制で名乗って挨拶だ。
　どんな世界でも、先に名乗るのが礼儀のはずと思ってやったのだ。
　今回もそれでいこう。

　挨拶をする俺の横を素通りすると、ゼニスの顔が見える位置まで移動した。
　そして、一歩距離をおいた位置で立ち止まり、ゼニスの顔をまじまじと見た。
　感動の再会。
　……と、思ったが、クレアはふんと息を吐いて、冷たいとも言える声音で言った。

「確かに娘です。アンデル、お願い」

　その言葉で、髭面の男が動いた。
　俺の脇を通り過ぎ、ゼニスの手を取って立ち上がらせる。
　そして、その虚ろな顔に手を触れて……。

「ちょっとまってください、いきなりなんですか？」

　慌てて割り込む。

　クレアおばあちゃん、ゼニスを見てちょっと焦っちゃったのね。

「そういうことでしたら、母を――」
「誰に座ってよいと教わりましたか！」

　ペースが早い。なんで俺を無視するんだ？　泣くぞこら。

「俺が座っていろと言ったんです」

　強い口調で言うと、クレアはゆっくりとこちらを向いた。
　あ、しまった。俺って言っちゃったな……。
　ええい、ままよ。

　言いながら両手を広げ、自分の服を見下ろす。おかしな格好ではない……と思う。
　この服、どこで買ったんだったかな。たしか、シャリーアだったと思うけど……。
　アスラ王国で買ったヤツの方がよかったかな？
　でもあれはパーティ用だし……。

「いいえ、あなたを無視したのは…………見知らぬ男が唐突に私のことをお祖母様などと呼んだからです。ここ数年、そうした詐欺師も出ていますからね。真偽を確かめるまで、返答に値しないと判断しました」
「……なるほど」

「必要ありますか？」
「なんですって？」
「母さん……ゼニスとアイシャを連れてきて、あなたからの手紙も持ってきた。それ以上の証拠は必要ですか？」

　そう言うと、クレアは眉をぴくりと震わせた。

「グレイラット家の当主にしては、ずいぶんと安っぽいのですね。グレイラットはアスラの四大領主の一つ……ラトレイア家は名家と云えど所詮は伯爵家。しかも伯爵本人ではなく、伯爵夫人に対し先に名乗り、先に頭を下げるなど……」
「俺はアスラの四大領主の血は引いていますが、領主の本筋ではありませんし、そもそも貴族の位を持っているわけでもありません。当主とは言いましたが、シャリーアに住む一般家庭の大黒柱に過ぎません。もっとも、仮に高い身分を持っていたとしても、初めて会う己の祖母に礼を尽くすのは当然だと思いますがね」

　あまり有名ではないと思うのだが、あの執事は、龍神の紋章を知っているらしい。
　こんなものいくらでも偽造できる……とか言われると困るが。

「なるほど……わかりました」

　クレアはそう言うと、すっと顎を引いて、両手を腹の辺りで合わせた。
　そして、自然な動作で頭を下げた。

　ゼニスの妹、テレーズも神殿騎士団の所属だったし、この一家は神殿騎士団と関わりが深いのだな。

　ルーデウス・グレイラットです。
　パウロ・グレイラットとゼニス・グレイラットの息子です。
　現在は『龍神』オルステッド様の下で働かせていただいております。
　先ほどの事は気にしないでください。俺も用意と配慮が足りませんでした。
　警戒するのは当然のことかと思います」

　俺は促されるままソファに座る。

「まずは長旅、ご苦労様でした。もうあと数年はかかるかと思いましたが、迅速な対応を感謝いたします」

　クレアはそう言ってポンと手を叩くと、扉が開いた。
　扉から、カートを引いたメイドが入ってくる。
　カートの上に乗っているのは、ティーセットだ。
　お茶会か。
　いいだろう。空中城塞で鍛えた、俺のお茶スキルを見せてやる。
