  1. Latency/WiFi Delay Mod legality
  2.
  3. Per L4st (tourney admin):
  4. If you would like to use the wifi delay (latency) mod, you MUST disclose it to your opponent before the set begins. If your opponent says its OK for you to use, you can keep using the mod and play the set. If your opponent does not agree, you must stop using the mod. Please disable it completely to avoid controversy. If both players are using the mod, both must still disclose they are using the mod, and both players must agree to use it. If you are found to be using the mod without having disclosed so first, it will constitute an automatic game forfeiture followed by the set continuing without use of the mod.

  8. What is the controversy around WiFI/Latency mod use?
  9.
  10. Players with a modded switch console have an objective advantage over vanilla Ultimate players, which is a legitimate unfair advantage for the base Ultimate player. Latency mod users in particular have less input delay (the delay between pressing the button and the game actually outputting the respective action). Mod users have 2 frames to 4 frames of input delay vs the vanilla game value of up to 10 frames of input delay. Any single frame makes a big impact on both game feel and ability to react. This advantage is real, and will hurt competition.

  14. How do I know if my opponent is using the Wifi/Delay mod?
  15.
  16. Mod users have an advantage during online play that reduces input delay, increasing their ability to react to your moves. If you believe the mod is in use, call for a moderator on start.gg and for proof as soon as possible. If proof is found your opponent used the mod without disclosing the information first, it will constitute an automatic game forfeiture followed by the set continuing without use of the mod (if any games remain).

  20. What are the lag test procedures/connection speed requirements?
  21.
  22. To have a lag test performed, players must call for a moderator on start.gg either after the first game or within 60 seconds of the start of a game, otherwise the results of any played matches will stand. “SD”s after the 60 second period will count towards recorded results. WiFi extenders are not considered a wired connection and are not allowed. Minimum specifications for a "stable connection" are considered to be a "Ping" under 30 ms and an "Upload Speed" above 10 mb/s. A moderator will use SableDetect to view internet speeds and stability from each player. You will be asked to perform a 60 second “Button test.” SableDetect can detect packet loss, ping spikes, packets that come in late/out of order, and the estimated distance between each player. This helps determine where the instability comes from. It is up to TO discretion to determine who is the cause of the lag. A failed lag test will end with a player DQ.

  26. How do I reduce my own lag?

  32. Conserve bandwith
  33. Streaming websites like Netflix, YouTube, Twitch, etc., and gaming applications such as Steam, Epic Games store, etc. can affect your connection and cause slowdowns/lag. If you are streaming, turning off your stream can also be a potential fix to your connection.

  35. Open up ports on your router
  36. You can open up ports to facilitate your Nintendo Switch’s connection to the internet, and potentially solve any connection issues you may have. The methods to do so are highly dependent on the type of router you have, so you will need to do research on your own.
