  1. How to upgrade Freenas (7 series) to NAS4Free
  2. ===========================
  3. There is no direct upgrade path using .iso or .img file for FreeNAS 0.7.5 series NAS Servers.
  4. Nas4Free MUST BE installed fresh with LiveCD or newly rewritten flash/SSD drive!
  5. After it is installed, embedded users can upgrade normally through the WebGUI.
  6.
  7.
  8.
  9. BEWARE! The following procedure is unofficial! If you fail to backup your data beforehand and something "bad" happens, then that is YOUR responsibility. I told you to backup first!
  10.
  11. ============
  12. -- It is 'possible' to import a (manually modified) Freenas 0.7.5 config file into a clean NAS4Free install, retaining most settings ---
  13.
  14. 1. Make a backup of your config, from the WebGUI go to 'System|Backup/Restore' and
  15. save your configuration (will be stored as an .xml file)
  16.
  17. 2. Some modifications will be necessary:
  18. 2a. Make a backup of the .xml file (so you have a copy, in case you screw it up, it
  19. happens)
  20. 2b. XML tags including "freenas" need to be changed to "nas4free". (there are 2, an open
  21. near the beginning, and a close at the end)
  22. 2c. Change the version string to <version>1.0</version>, near the beginning of file.
  23. (this may or may not be necessary, better safe than sorry)
  24.
  25. 3. Burn the livecd (iso) and install NAS4Free, or re-write the flash drive (whichever method you used before with FreeNAS)
  26.
  27. 4. Reboot. (changes made while running from LiveCD won't "stick")
  28.
  29. 5. Log into the WebGUI. (change network interfaces and settings if necessary so you can
  30. log in)
  31. ! Remember that it may be on a different IP than you had been using. (console should
  32. display IP to use)
  33. ! Default admin user is "admin" and default password is "nas4free"
  34.
  35. 6. Return to 'System|Backup/Restore' and restore the modified config file. (It should
  36. reboot automatically)
  37.
  38. 7. Log back into the WebGUI. Go to "Disks|Management"
  39. Update all the drive identifications:
  40. Remove each entry and re-add: If a drive was ad[X] then, now it should be ada[X]
  41. (X stands for a drivenumber)
  42.
  43. 8. If you use UPnP/fuppes, you will need to disable the UPnP/fuppes service, delete the
  44. fuppes.db and restart the service, because the old database format is incompatible with
  45. the current version.
