  1. Hi, I've been using ZFS since 2011 on Solaris and FreeBSD but one thing that I've never really fully grasped is how to size ZFS deployment from a memory prospective. I know the mantra is the more RAM the better and while this is fine when I'm deploying physical servers it doesn't work out as we'll when your paying per month for FreeBSD VPS's such as digital ocean.

  3. I've heard on the show that it depends on your "working set" and "1Gb RAM per 1Tb of Storage" but are there any formulas that can be used to calculate a safe but low memory provisioning for a given work load on disks smaller than 1Tb? Can you go lower than 2Gb if disk size is small? Does block size effect the calculation? Also what ZFS tuning would you recommend in memory constrained deployments?

  5. Thanks
