- (07:04:10 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Have you tried Dave Grossman for the TellTale stuff also ?
- (07:04:51 AM) Cheeseness: The_Mad_Pirate: Not directly yet. Everybody at Telltale has been really busy when we've played their games so far >_<
- (07:04:53 AM) Syd: I think last we tried to get Dave, he was really busy.
- (07:05:01 AM) lux: Bremen!
- (07:05:19 AM) Cheeseness: Alrighty, so we're continuing from where we left off last time
- (07:05:37 AM) Syd: and yeah, I've done Monkey Island 1 and 2 for the stream, both of them being frankenstein versions that combined the original versions with the voice acting. :P
- (07:05:48 AM) Cheeseness: This portion of the game started with a bunch of unskippable dialogue of Legrand telling Zellner that it couldn't come with them on the cruise (if anybody's forgotten or missed last session)
- (07:06:32 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: You should try approaching them with Walking Dead relating stream , I think they might be more interesed in that kind of promotion.
- (07:07:09 AM) plash: Pah, internets not liking this idea
- (07:07:11 AM) Cheeseness: We'll probably leave a while longer before getting to TWD (I have no desire to get the TWD community in its crazy state)
- (07:07:17 AM) Cheeseness: plash: Aww :(
- (07:07:25 AM) Cheeseness: I really like the lighting of these scenes
- (07:07:31 AM) plash: The music is nice
- (07:07:37 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, the music is great
- (07:08:52 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: really nice modeling work !
- (07:09:00 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: very clean topology indeed
- (07:09:30 AM) Cheeseness: It feels a bit like the shadows let things down a little
- (07:09:55 AM) Cheeseness: It's been interesting to watch the game again after completing the story
- (07:10:18 AM) Cheeseness: In the second half your perspective changes and you play from the point of view of the thief
- (07:11:23 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: hahaha It must feels like playing "The Thomas Crown affair" movie , lol !
- (07:11:44 AM) Cheeseness: ^_^
- (07:12:07 AM) Cheeseness: Marco said last time they put work into making it plausible that anybody could be the culprit
- (07:12:35 AM) plash: That makes for the best mysteries
- (07:12:37 AM) Cheeseness: So the game has a lot of misdirection going on. It's all well wrapped up in faaaairly solid characterisation though, so even in hindsight, it doesn't seem gratuitous
- (07:12:39 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: wow , didnt knew Blender used MPI for parallel distributed rendering !. That's nice to know , though !
- (07:12:42 AM) Permafry_42: for me the opening gave it away
- (07:12:54 AM) Cheeseness: Permafry_42: Oh?
- (07:13:17 AM) Permafry_42: i'll wait until its revealed to say why
- (07:13:31 AM) Cheeseness: Did you end up finishing chapter 3, Permafry_42?
- (07:13:39 AM) Permafry_42: working on it
- (07:13:46 AM) Cheeseness: You may still be surprised ^_^
- (07:13:50 AM) Permafry_42: k
- (07:13:58 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: the buttler did it !
- (07:14:17 AM) Cheeseness: I find though, that there are lots of scenes when people walk into scenes with only their feet visible and they're meant to be anonymous. Unfortunately anybody with a good eye for pants will spot who they are pretty immediately
- (07:14:55 AM) Cheeseness: The concierge's silhouette was very recognisable in the last stream as well IMO
- (07:15:06 AM) Permafry_42: agreed
- (07:15:17 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: what if they stole other character's pants ?
- (07:15:24 AM) Permafry_42: lol
- (07:15:27 AM) Cheeseness: That's always a possibility :D
- (07:16:32 AM) plash: Fiddle faddle
- (07:16:35 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: btw , Cheeseness , how long have you been toying with OG Sandboox ?
- (07:16:37 AM) Cheeseness: At first I found some of the accents a little jarring, but they've grown on me, I think
- (07:16:55 AM) plash: That's going in my idiolect.
- (07:17:23 AM) Cheeseness: The_Mad_Pirate: Overgrowth? TBH, I haven't spent a lot of time with it. I think I pre-ordered a bit over a year ago
- (07:17:45 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: done any mod yet ?
- (07:17:54 AM) Cheeseness: Nah
- (07:18:03 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: LOl :D
- (07:20:29 AM) Cheeseness: It's interesting that Zellner doesn't just buy his own ticket
- (07:20:47 AM) Cheeseness: Since he seems very much to want to continue along with the journey
- (07:21:30 AM) Cheeseness: Well, I guess that's why
- (07:24:42 AM) Cheeseness: This scene when you come back through is different
- (07:24:47 AM) flesk [flesk@hide-1E215ADA.getinternet.no] entered the room.
- (07:24:52 AM) Cheeseness: (the lights are on for starters)
- (07:24:55 AM) Cheeseness: Hey flesk
- (07:25:01 AM) flesk: Hi Cheese.
- (07:25:14 AM) flesk: I'm a bit late today.
- (07:25:18 AM) Cheeseness: It's cool ^_^
- (07:25:21 AM) Syd: Sorry if I've been quiet, I've been working on getting the Steam version of FoA running in ScummVM. I have that all fixed up now, though. :P
- (07:25:22 AM) Cheeseness: Looks like a quiet session today
- (07:25:31 AM) Cheeseness: We'll probably do FoA after Costume Quest :3
- (07:26:16 AM) flesk: Did you use that python script someone wrote, Syd?
- (07:27:34 AM) flesk: https://github.com/symm/LAAExtract
- (07:27:52 AM) Syd: I used this http://koti.kapsi.fi/~jvaltane/SteamLucasToScummVM/indy4.txt
- (07:27:53 AM) flesk: What I used to play the games in ScummVM.
- (07:28:01 AM) Syd: Had to install GnuWin to use the dd command in Windows, though
- (07:28:20 AM) Cheeseness: This scene is fun ^_^
- (07:28:22 AM) Syd: But it worked like a charm
- (07:28:59 AM) flesk: Seems like it does pretty much the same thing.
- (07:29:22 AM) Syd: Extracts atlantis.000 from the executable, yeah
- (07:29:23 AM) flesk: So you haven't played FoA at all yet?
- (07:29:35 AM) flesk: Yes.
- (07:29:47 AM) Syd: I'm going to do a playthrough for myself soon, then stream it after we do Costume Quest. I've heard very good things about it.
- (07:29:51 AM) lux left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- (07:31:25 AM) Ponder: When did you plan to do Costume Quest?
- (07:31:26 AM) Cheeseness: It's nice that they've spent a lot of time in giving characters believable motivations
- (07:31:35 AM) flesk: Yes, it's very good. There are some very different paths you can take in the game too, so that two playthroughs can be quite different.
- (07:31:48 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: A ScummVM port for SteamOS ?
- (07:31:53 AM) Cheeseness: Talking about The Raven, flesk
- (07:32:07 AM) flesk: No, FoA.
- (07:32:07 AM) Cheeseness: Ponder: Probably the 12th! We'll likely have developers joining us as well :D
- (07:32:25 AM) Ponder: Cheeseness: Neat.
- (07:32:29 AM) flesk: But yeah, the character animations in The Raven are very good for a game like this.
- (07:32:30 AM) Cheeseness: flesk: Yeah. I was clarifying in case you misunderstood what I was saying ^_^
- (07:32:39 AM) flesk: Not to mention their budget.
- (07:32:56 AM) Cheeseness: I dunno - I feel like the animations are probably the weakest aspect
- (07:33:24 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: FoA was a very enjoyable game
- (07:33:26 AM) Cheeseness: There are a few idle animations that don't reposition the character's centre, making their feet slide around on the floor as well
- (07:33:59 AM) Permafry_42: i love the models but the animations could be better imo
- (07:34:03 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: especially if you completed all three game paths
- (07:34:20 AM) flesk: Really? Compared to BoUT and the POS games I've seen I think it looks pretty good.
- (07:34:39 AM) Cheeseness: I haven't played BoUT yet
- (07:34:41 AM) Cheeseness: What's POS?
- (07:34:51 AM) flesk: Are there any other realistic looking 3D adventure games with good character animations?
- (07:34:58 AM) flesk: Phoenix Online Studios.
- (07:35:05 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Anyone played Ankh Yet ?
- (07:35:22 AM) Permafry_42: journey? lol
- (07:35:44 AM) Permafry_42: not sure if its technically an adventure game though
- (07:36:06 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I should play Tunguska one of these days also , though.
- (07:36:20 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: The Secret Files : Tunguska , I mean.
- (07:36:24 AM) flesk: Hmm. Yeah. Isn't the protagonist there masked or something though?
- (07:36:46 AM) flesk: I played the first Tunguska earlier this year for the first time.
- (07:36:59 AM) flesk: Quite enjoyed it.
- (07:37:03 AM) plash: I think they're trying to avoid some lipsyncing by hiding faces :P
- (07:37:09 AM) flesk: I mean the first Secret Files.
- (07:37:14 AM) Permafry_42: notice the wine missing?
- (07:37:14 AM) Cheeseness: Another thing I've spotted with this game is that the dialogue seems to be written as though you'll select all dialogue options in order starting from the top
- (07:37:30 AM) Cheeseness: Lip sync is a lot of work
- (07:37:39 AM) plash: I'm sure
- (07:37:42 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Blender trunk ... 500 mb and not even quite complete ... this is gonna be hell ...
- (07:38:20 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Yup , Lip Synch is hard work indeed
- (07:38:59 AM) flesk: Yeah, I can imagine. According to Oliver's latest DFA update they're using a third party framework to handle lip sync in Broken Age.
- (07:39:17 AM) Cheeseness: Oh? Interesting
- (07:39:21 AM) Cheeseness: I haven't had a chance to watch it yet
- (07:41:18 AM) Permafry_42: the artstyle reminds me of the meet the _ tf2 videos for some reason
- (07:41:21 AM) plash: Gah, Twitch is only pushing 1080p or something
- (07:41:24 AM) plash: It's all jumpy
- (07:41:53 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, it's not quite as stylised as TF2, but they've steered clear of direct realism intentionally
- (07:42:10 AM) Syd: Twitch normally lets you set a bitrate for viewing, but for some reason this embedded version doesn't give that option
- (07:42:34 AM) Permafry_42: sorry; the video source is 1080p, so unless i shrink the quality it needs to be 1080p
- (07:42:40 AM) Syd: If you watch from the twitch page instead you might be able to change it to a lower quality version of the stream
- (07:43:02 AM) plash: Already tried
- (07:43:12 AM) Fireflower [51aae78d@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
- (07:43:18 AM) Fireflower: Hey
- (07:43:31 AM) Syd: Hey Fireflower
- (07:43:33 AM) Permafry_42: hey!
- (07:43:37 AM) flesk: Hi Fireflower.
- (07:43:49 AM) Cheeseness: Hey Fireflower
- (07:43:52 AM) Cheeseness: Have you played this game?
- (07:43:58 AM) Fireflower: Nope
- (07:44:18 AM) flesk: @Cheese: I just finished watching it earlier today. It's quite interesting even though I don't understand half of it.
- (07:44:20 AM) Fireflower: looks nice
- (07:46:33 AM) Fireflower left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- (07:46:47 AM) Fireflower [51aae78d@hide-50D287EE.mibbit.com] entered the room.
- (07:46:56 AM) flesk: Anyone heard of http://www.shadowsonthevatican.com/ before?
- (07:47:04 AM) Fireflower: yes
- (07:47:18 AM) flesk: Reminds me a bit of Broken Sword.
- (07:48:14 AM) flesk: Heard anything good Fireflower? Or played the first episode?
- (07:48:15 AM) Fireflower: haven't tried it
- (07:48:21 AM) flesk: Ok.
- (07:48:26 AM) Cheeseness: I mean, the animations in this game aren't expressly horrible - they're just not quite as polished as the audio and models
- (07:48:29 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I am pretty thrilled about Dreamfall:Chapters.
- (07:48:33 AM) Fireflower: but i probly should as i sell it :)
- (07:48:35 AM) flesk: It's in one of the current Groupees bundles.
- (07:49:11 AM) Permafry_42: yeah i've been really interested in dreamfall for a while
- (07:49:16 AM) Permafry_42: which bundle?
- (07:49:47 AM) flesk: I had forgotten: www.fireflowergames.com is you?
- (07:49:59 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah, it is
- (07:50:04 AM) Fireflower: yep
- (07:50:16 AM) flesk: Seems like there's a problem with the page.
- (07:50:22 AM) Fireflower: yeah
- (07:50:26 AM) Fireflower: looking into it
- (07:50:33 AM) flesk: Permafry_42: http://groupees.com/kiss2r
- (07:50:43 AM) Permafry_42: ty
- (07:51:09 AM) flesk: I think Ampu-Tee in that bundle looks very interesting as well.
- (07:51:21 AM) flesk: And Grimind.
- (07:51:31 AM) plash: TLJ/Dreamfall is a great series
- (07:51:41 AM) Cheeseness: Should we focus on The Raven? ^_^
- (07:52:06 AM) flesk: Sorry, Cheese. ;)
- (07:52:17 AM) Fireflower: the site is back up
- (07:52:54 AM) plash: Inspector's pants are conspicuously tidy
- (07:52:59 AM) Permafry_42: might get the bundle
- (07:53:04 AM) plash: Suspicious.
- (07:53:08 AM) flesk: I've heard a few people say the last episode is almost broken because of bugs.
- (07:54:10 AM) Cheeseness: It's mostly pathfinding stuff
- (07:54:39 AM) Cheeseness: Which ends up with the player sometimes getting stuck when trying to leave a scene (you can't interrupt a scene transition)
- (07:54:44 AM) Cheeseness: It's not that bad though
- (07:55:33 AM) flesk: Oh, ok.
- (07:55:51 AM) flesk: It might hurt them a bit in reviews though.
- (07:56:05 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: woah , chatting with Oliver is allway so tougth inspiring. Guy is a real genius !
- (07:56:26 AM) Cheeseness: flesk: Yeah, it seems to have
- (07:56:35 AM) Cheeseness: On the whole, the first episode feels the most polished
- (07:56:40 AM) Cheeseness: But the rest is still good
- (07:56:48 AM) Fireflower: how's the voiceacting in this game?
- (07:56:48 AM) Cheeseness: The_Mad_Pirate: I know, right
- (07:56:49 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I own an original TLJ box , bugth it used a couple of years ago.
- (07:57:18 AM) plash: Fireflower: Seems pretty good to me
- (07:57:46 AM) Fireflower: cool
- (07:57:51 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: although the spanish translation is really funny.
- (07:57:56 AM) Fireflower: ok :)
- (07:58:15 AM) Cheeseness: It took me ages to spot the plant
- (07:58:27 AM) Permafry_42: same
- (07:58:43 AM) Permafry_42: almost for got it a second time
- (07:59:04 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I dunno why It reminds me to "Cruise of a Corpose"....
- (07:59:54 AM) Fireflower: yeah, reminds me a bit of that too actually
- (08:00:12 AM) Permafry_42: did anyone else play the game version of "and then there were none"
- (08:00:15 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Cheeseness: Tomorrow is VGL Show in Buenos AIres , I can't wait to it !
- (08:00:21 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Nope
- (08:00:50 AM) Permafry_42: i remember it being decent considering when it was made
- (08:02:20 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Yeah , I like it better than "Future Wars" tough ...
- (08:02:33 AM) flesk: I think the settings in this game look very interesting.
- (08:02:50 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I mean , "Future Wars" had a very nice concept to it , but UI was very clanky
- (08:03:13 AM) Permafry_42: so how long should i stream to this time?
- (08:03:28 AM) Fireflower: 2 more hours
- (08:03:39 AM) Permafry_42: there isn't really a good point to pause for a while
- (08:03:39 AM) Cheeseness: Permafry_42: Aim to leave 1 - 1.5 hours for next week
- (08:03:44 AM) flesk: TMP: Got an original box as well. Got it for my birthday or christmas when the game was new.
- (08:03:48 AM) Cheeseness: Play whatever you need to do get up to that
- (08:04:23 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: I love TLJ Box Art !
- (08:04:50 AM) Cheeseness: Thsoe who own The Raven, did you choose to go with the collectors edition?
- (08:04:58 AM) Permafry_42: probably should play as long as time permits since the last part took a while when i played it
- (08:05:52 AM) flesk: Did all boxes come with all language versions? Mine had Norwegian, but I don't actually remember if English or other voice options were available.
- (08:07:22 AM) flesk: I'll probably get The Raven closer to christmas. Is the collectors edition the game + ost?
- (08:07:34 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Hmmm I bet the Captain is the real culprit , he really has some suspicious facial features.
- (08:08:09 AM) Cheeseness: You get the soundtrack, a making of "book", a story "book", a template for a papercraft Raven mast and a poster
- (08:08:11 AM) Permafry_42: yup and the ost is worth it
- (08:08:14 AM) Cheeseness: (all digital)
- (08:08:25 AM) plash: How many tracks are in the soundtrack?
- (08:08:35 AM) Cheeseness: Maybe a dozen?
- (08:08:35 AM) Permafry_42: if i hadn't got the game for free, i would have bought the collectors
- (08:09:17 AM) Cheeseness: I can't recall which I got, but I think that maybe the deluxe edition is worth an extra few dollars >_<
- (08:09:43 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: hmmm ... why not a 'Pulcino Pio" plushie ?
- (08:11:02 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: yup ... maybe a boxing Pulcino Pio plushie beating up a raven !
- (08:11:51 AM) flesk: @Cheese: Sounds like a really good collectors edition. The mask is a nice touch. Most collectors edition just include the OST and little else.
- (08:12:00 AM) Cheeseness: Yeah
- (08:12:25 AM) Cheeseness: The reason I asked is because I can't recall which I got and I'm unsure about how to check for the extra content :D
- (08:13:42 AM) Ponder left the room (quit: Quit: http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client).
- (08:13:51 AM) Cheeseness: I sort of with there was a bit more stuff to interact with at this spot
- (08:13:54 AM) flesk: Good question.
- (08:14:31 AM) Syd: Usually, if you get a special edition on Steam, it shows up as DLC in the game's properties
- (08:14:40 AM) flesk: If you have it on Steam, you could possibly check the store page to see if the deluxe is marked as owned.
- (08:14:47 AM) Syd: and the special edition content will be in a folder alongside the rest of the game's data
- (08:14:54 AM) Cheeseness: It doesn't seem to show on the store page
- (08:14:54 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: IIRC "Catherine" Boxed Edition included a white Boxer Underwear with Hearts and small pillow
- (08:15:49 AM) flesk: Did anyone get a boxed version of LSL: Reloaded?
- (08:16:18 AM) flesk: That had some interesting content if I'm not mistaken.
- (08:17:30 AM) computernerd27 left the room.
- (08:18:24 AM) Cheeseness: Some of this stuff was a bit convoluted IMO
- (08:19:04 AM) Permafry_42: agreed, i walked around a lot after finding the obvious stuff
- (08:19:46 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Was it like , i.e. "Sam and Max : Hit The Read" magnifying glass on the carnival fair item ?
- (08:20:50 AM) Permafry_42: alright i'll end it after doing the delivery and all the new dialogue
- (08:21:18 AM) Permafry_42: now is a good point to end the stream
- (08:21:36 AM) Cheeseness: Alrighty
- (08:21:49 AM) Cheeseness: The_Mad_Pirate: Not so much, just a lot of wandering around and head scratching
- (08:21:52 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: okedokey
- (08:22:36 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: sounds like you miss that kind of mind numbling puzzles
- (08:23:20 AM) Fireflower: thx for streaming Permafry
- (08:23:28 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: :)
- (08:23:33 AM) Permafry_42: np
- (08:23:34 AM) Syd: Thanks for streaming again, Perma. :)
- (08:23:35 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: thanks man !
- (08:23:37 AM) Cheeseness: Thanks :D
- (08:23:47 AM) Cheeseness: I have to say, I do miss crazy puzzles :D
- (08:24:00 AM) flesk: Yeah, thanks for streaming.
- (08:24:03 AM) Permafry_42: yeah those are the ones you remember after the game
- (08:24:31 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: yeah , real "monkey wrench"s
- (08:25:00 AM) Permafry_42: oh yeah this is unrelated, but thouse who are interested be sure to back Mighty No 9 in the next few days
- (08:25:32 AM) The_Mad_Pirate: Yeah , I saw Greame Divine backed it.
- (08:25:36 AM) Permafry_42: the kickstarter will be ending soon, and its looking to be a fantastic game based on the people making it
- (08:25:57 AM) flesk: Maybe back Taxi Journey while you're at it too.
- (08:26:01 AM) Fireflower: an adventure game?
- (08:26:06 AM) Cheeseness: Alrighty, I'll get the chat log up in a bit
- (08:26:11 AM) Permafry_42: I'm getting the physical copy since I'm betting its going to be a collector's item when the game is released
- (08:26:30 AM) Cheeseness: If everybody could try to rustle up people for Costume Quest, that'd be awesome. it'd be great to get a good turnout and some insightful discussion for that
