  3. Nightlight
  4.
  5. >you are Nightlight
  6. >mommy says you have very pretty blue fluff and a pretty green mane
  7. >and you’re trying your best to take sleepies
  8. >but it’s not easy
  9. >there’s a great big monster in your safe room
  10. >your safe room has become a monster room
  11. >and while you can’t quite see the monster, you know he’s there
  12. >he made a sound not long ago
  13. >it was a loud baby noise, kind of
  14. >it hurt your ears, since it sounded like a fluffy baby crying
  15. >that’s usually enough to hurt any fluffy’s ears, but this was like a really big crying fluffy baby
  16. >anyway, you’re curled up in your bed, waiting for the monster to appear
  17. >you’re supposed to be taking sleepies, so you can’t let mommy know about the monster
  18. >she’d save you, of course, but then she’d be mad
  19. >and making mommy mad would be something that a bad fluffy would do
  20. >so you stand your ground
  21. >or, rather, you curl of in your little fluffy bed, hiding under a big blanket
  22. >it’s very soft, and warm
  23. >no monster can get through that!
  24. >as long as you stay under the blanket, you’re safe
  25. >but, sadly, your curiosity gets the better of you
  26. >you poke your head out from under the blanket to see if the monster’s still there
  27. >he is!
  28. >you can see him just in front of you!
  29. >you shout, scream and cry, before running to the door of the safe room
  30. >banging on it with your little hoofsies doesn’t make it open
  31. >why won’t it open?!
  32. >if it doesn’t open, the monster will get you
  33. >so you pound and pound and pound, when suddenly the door flies open
  34. >and right in front of you is mommy!
  35. >”Nightlight? What’s with all the noise?”
  36. >through your tears, you tell her all about the monster
  37. >mommy listens to your story very carefully, and nods her head a few times
  38. >”Well then, I guess I’ll have to do something about the monster.”
  39. >mommy goes over to right where the monster was!
  40. >before you can warn her, yell, try to stop her, or anything else, she’s already next to the monster!
  41. >she reaches down, her arm just out of your view
  42. >she rummages around…
  43. >and grabs the monster!
  44. >mommy pulls the monster up off the floor, and holds it up in the air
  45. >the monster has eight very long arms, huge eyes, and even some silly fluff
  46. >wait, silly fluff?
  47. >you take another look
  48. >why, it’s just Mr. Wiggles, your favorite toy!
  49. >”Oh, Nightlight. It’s just your plush octopus. Not a monster.”
  50. >mommy puts Mr. Wiggles in your bed, and you crawl in with him, giving a tiny sniffle as your scared saddie water goes away
  51. >”Mummah? Nigh’wite sowwy.”
  52. >”That’s alright, sweetie. I understand. Do you want the Monster-Go-Away Glow?”
  53. >you nod, as fast as you can
  54. >the monster-go-away glow makes the monsters go away
  55. >mommy pulls the little buzzy thing from her pocket, and rubs it all over you
  56. >you feel a little tingly, and soon enough, you see the monster-go-away glow
  57. >you thank mommy profusely, and she gives you a little kiss on your sniffer
  58. >she leaves, and closes the door behind her
  59. >you give Mr. Wiggles huggies, and start to fall asleep, glad that no monsters can get you now
  60. >”Buh-bye, munstahs…”
  61. >and, with that, you take sleepies
  62.
  63. -----------------------------------------
  64.
  65. >you are Dr. Carolyn Monroe, a prolific scientist in your community
  66. >ever since fluffy ponies came out, they’ve been your main focus of experimentation
  67. >you’d usually pick them up from a shelter, or get them off the street, but Nightlight is the first fluffy you’ve had since birth
  68. >she’s a successful attempt at fluffies with hollow fluff
  69. >much like a polar bear, this breed of fluffies has hollow hairs, allowing for more aerodynamic traits
  70. >you’ve observed a 0.12 mile per hour increase in fluffy pony racers
  71. >not much, but enough to quantify a grant and further research
  72. >anyway, like you were saying, Nightlight has hollow fluff
  73. >she also suffers from a little phenomenon called nocturnal hallucinations
  74. >basically, at night, she sees things that aren’t there
  75. >that, or she sees things that are there, and mistakes them for monsters
  76. >since she’s just a little fluffy pony, she doesn’t quite understand that what she sees in the dark aren’t real, nor are they monsters
  77. >so, you decided to try something a little different
  78. >without going too far into detail, what you basically did was fill the spaces in her hollow fluff with a variant of neon, and capped the hairs through a process known as “pinching them shut”
  79. >seriously, it was as easy as that
  80. >furthermore, when you connected a small electrical source, such as a battery, you could make the fluff glow a bright blue hue
  81. >you had to make sure not to use anything more potent than a cell battery, as a higher voltage might end up re-opening the seals or potentially singeing Nightlight
  82. >so, she glows, not unlike a night light
  83. >where else would she have gotten the name?
  84. >the tiny amounts of neon, paired with the low voltage battery, only let the fluff glow for about five to ten minutes at the most
  85. >but if it can manage to give Nightlight a little cone of vision to take away the hallucinations and give her peace of mind before she falls asleep, then your experiment is a success
  86. >you plop down at your desk, typing up a short idea for a new test
  87. >Experiment #528: Giving a sea fluffy an anglerfish lightbulb.
