Why not just one boot loader to rule them all?

  1. Greetings Chris & Allen,
  2.
  3. There was all the big fuss made over the UEFI, which ultimately wants to
  4. ensure secure booting. And protect the boot manager. My question is, why is
  5. there more than one Boot Manager at all?
  6.
  7. It seems to me that a Boot Manager is the one thing, that EVERY operating
  8. system wants the exact same things from, i.e. to boot their OS. Is open
  9. source not ideal for this problem? You have a single Open Source Boot
  10. Manager, and then each operating system is free to modify the code so that
  11. their OS works with it.
  12.
  13. And, if there was only one Boot Manager, it would open a lot of possibilites,
  14. like moving the boot manager onto the MB's firmware.
  15.
