08:53 Night10194 As a result, we are skipping forward to the day after the battle, with the pilots awakening conspicuously lacking in hangovers.
08:55 Night10194 Time to tally up the damages, check the post-battle stress, and try to come to terms with the fact that there's still an enormous amount of corpse about 2 kilometers outside the base.
08:58 Griet Hopefully it's cold enough that it doesn't start to smell any time soon.

09:01 Night10194 A relatively friendly tech does let you know something better than pallet guns OR battle rifles is in development and might be deployed soon, especially with the big influx of funding the EVA program just recieved due to victory.
09:02 Night10194 They've apparently nearly licked railguns. And are working on ways to add additional armor to EVAs, as well.
09:03 TanyaIvanova Relax a bit over breakfast, then head out to find various physical activities with which to preoccupy herself – the jogging path the pilots usually go on, sparring with someone, Tanya's easily pleased.
09:04 Night10194 The Techs also seem really optimistic about EVA-41. They think it should be functional in mere hours.
09:04 Night10194 The hit got too close to the entry plug, rather than actually hitting anything vital, triggering an auto-eject and shutting down the EVA.
09:04 Night10194 It's mostly a matter of pasting some new armor on there.

09:06 ElsaFaustus Well, I imagine I'm in the hangar with Dostov.

09:07 NathanielDurond Wandering the hallways on my cell phone would probably involve less eavesdropping than staying in my office.
09:07 Night10194 Tuchechev is also in the hanger, overseeing some quick modifications to the EVAs, as well. Particularly implanting EVA-40 with some organs and signaling materials that should prevent it getting knocked out of action as easily as 41.
09:08 MikoNakamura When I finish my letter, I'd look for Durond to ask who takes care of mail around here.
09:09 * Dostov slips his hands into his pockets, staring at Unit 41 as the technicians work it over.

09:09 Griet Griet stays in quarters and works on school work, she hasn't had much formal schooling so studying sometimes takes longer.

09:10 Dostov "Huh? Oh." He smiles as he looks over to Elsa. "Yeah, I'm alright. That was really something you and Miko managed out there."
09:12 ElsaFaustus "Doesn't seem that fancy.  Just like bashing a foe with your shield."
09:12 Dostov "I thought it was impessive."
09:13 Night10194 Meanwhile, Griet, you get a visitor. An overweight lil' Russian girl. "Hello there! Is my brother around?" She waves in greeting.
09:13 * Griet looks up. "Oh, hello. No, I think he was looking into repairs?"
09:14 Night10194 She sighs. "Dang...I'm not allowed in the hangers. You all did really well, you know? You saved the base from that thing..."
09:16 ElsaFaustus "Just comes to me.  And Miko too, apparently."
09:17 * Griet pales a bit. "It was mostly the others. I panicked. They never told us it would be like that."
09:17 Griet "Has it always been like this for you? With all the alarms and the fighting?"
09:18 Night10194 Natasha: "No...that's new. The base has always been quiet, before now. But it's our home."
09:18 Dostov "Still, pretty cool." He smiles, then turns his attention back to 41. "You like Currywurst?"
09:19 ElsaFaustus "Currywurst?  Is that what you named your EVA?"
09:19 Dostov "Wha- no no. Sorry." He turns to face her. "His name is Pizdetz Vsemu."
09:21 ElsaFaustus "That mean something?"
09:21 * Griet shakes her head in disbelief. "It's insane, the whole thing is pretty crazy. But maybe it would seem a little less so if that's how you grew up."
09:22 Dostov "Uh...well..." He looks a bit embarrassed. "It means 'The fucking end of everything.'" He clears his throat.
09:22 Night10194 Natasha: "At least you can do something about it... Anyway, I should head home. Can you tell my brother to come see dad if you see him before me?"
09:23 ElsaFaustus "Oh.  How uplifting.  Did you choose it?"
09:24 Night10194 Miko, you find Nate pacing back and forth outside his office, talking on a cell.
09:25 Griet "Of course, I'd offer to take you to the Hangar, but i don't think i'm allowed to do that?"
09:25 * MikoNakamura waits patiently for him to finish his conversation, smiling and humming to herself.
09:25 Griet "I'll be sure to let him know you stopped by though."
09:25 Dostov "Yeah, named after a tank actually."
09:26 ElsaFaustus "I'd name mine after a tank, but I imagine most people here would object to it.  Besides, someone else already named it."
09:27 Night10194 Natasha nods. "Thanks!" She scurries off.
09:27 Dostov "What did you do before coming out here?"
09:29 ElsaFaustus "Me?  I was a student, of course.  In high school in Bade-Wurttemburg."
09:30 ElsaFaustus "Near Stuttgart."
09:31 * Dostov tries to keep up, but Bade-Wurttemburg and Stuttgart are complete mysteries to him.
09:31 * NathanielDurond stops his pacing for a moment and looks at Miko. "Do you need something? He asks, placing his hand over the mouthpeice."
09:32 MikoNakamura "Oh! I didn't mean to disturb you, sir, but I would like very much to send a letter back home."
09:33 ElsaFaustus I raise an eyebrow at the evident confusion.  "Baden-Wurttemburg is one of the states of Germany.  South Germany, north of the Alps.  Stuttgart is it's largest city.  Also a UN capital."
09:33 * MikoNakamura offers forth the piece of paper.
09:34 * NathanielDurond shrugs and speaks into the mouthpiece. "I'll call you back later" before placing the phone in his pocket. "It wasn't anything important anyway Miko, and you don't have to call me sir on your day off. Who is it too?" he asks, taking the paper and giving it a cursory examination.

09:36 ElsaFaustus "As for what I did there....  I didn't do much."
09:37 Dostov "What do you like to study? I mean...like...a favorite subject."
09:37 MikoNakamura The letter is elegantly hand-written kanji. "It is to my Grandfather. He lives behind our temple, just outside of Kuroishi."

09:39 Dostov "Maybe that's why you're so good with that AT Field...jutsu..."
09:39 NathanielDurond "I'll see what I can do about having it expedited via inter-branch communication if you'd like."

09:41 ElsaFaustus "Doubt it.  I never studied anything like these things in school."
09:41 * MikoNakamura smiles and bows quickly. "Thank you very much, Durond-chan."
09:41 Dostov "Oh, huh." He scratches the back of his head.
09:41 Griet For now, yes.
09:42 NathanielDurond "Not a problem. Are you settling in alright? And have you seen Griet? I have some news for her."
09:44 ElsaFaustus "Say...  Don't suppose you'd like a Pallet Gun?  Never fired, only dropped once."
09:44 ElsaFaustus "You can have it for the price of... whatever yours is armed with."
09:44 MikoNakamura "I like it here, just fine, I suppose, but I do miss the presence of the spirits of home," looking a little less cheerful. "But I thing I heard Griet-chan in her room when I walked by. Shall I tell her to come see you?"

09:45 Dostov "I'd be safer throwing my spear, I think." He chuckles.
09:45 NathanielDurond "Spirits?"
09:46 ElsaFaustus "Pallet Guns are heavier."
09:47 Dostov "I could teach you to use it like a spear. Get it a giant bayonet."
09:48 ElsaFaustus "Like a spear that might backfire."
09:49 * MikoNakamura brightens up. "Oh, yes! There are many kami in my homeland, and of course the spirits of our ancestors. It's sad for me, to be away from them for so long. I miss them, and the temple must be filthy by now, but...I suppose I have Great Kami here with me, and we're saving the world, including Japan, so..." She stops and takes a breath, blushing slightly.
09:49 * Griet pushes her studying away from her and eyes the fridge speculatively. Perhaps it is time to make a gesture to the others.....
09:50 Dostov "Maybe we should give it to the enemy."
09:50 ElsaFaustus "I've suggested that, but the captain disagreed."
09:50 NathanielDurond "Oh, that is remarkable. Are there no... "kami" here in Siberia?"
09:51 Dostov He grins, happy to have something like a normal conversation with Elsa.
09:52 * Griet hoping Dostov doesn't hurt her for messing with his kitchen, gets up and starts rummaging around for the basics to make an apple pie for the team. Hopefully the kitchen doesn't burn down.

09:54 MikoNakamura "Weeeellllll..." she wrinkles her nose in concentration and gives it some thought. "I suppose there are kami all over the world, but only the spirits of Japan have ever interacted with the people of our world, as I understand it. As far as prayers, while the people of Russia have been kind, and you all seem like wonderful people...well, you have no temples."
09:55 Dostov "Don't worry about the hunk of junk too much. I'll be protecting you, so you can use those fancy field moves."

09:56 NathanielDurond "Ah." So much for comparative theology. "Well, if you can think of something reasonably sized we can import from Japan to make it easier, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I'm going to go check in on Griet. I know I told you all to study when you could, but I'm surprised anyone would."
09:56 * Griet turns the oven on and blissfully begins to chop apples.
09:57 Night10194 It turned out astonishingly well. You suspect the hand of either a kind God, one of Mikos spirits, or dumb luck.
09:57 ElsaFaustus "You were pretty eager to get that last one.  It was all quite glorious to watch."
09:57 * MikoNakamura 's eyes light up. "Thank you, Durond-chan!" Hugs.
09:58 Dostov "It's my job. As long as I can at least buy you all some time it's a success of some degree. I plan to last longer next time."
09:58 * Griet moves on to the pie shell, adding ingredients somewhat haphazardly, but managing to be more or less accurate.
10:00 * NathanielDurond returns Miko's awkwardly. "Well, lets check in on Griet" Nathaniel opens the door to common area. "Mon Deiu! What is that wonderful aroma?"
10:00 ElsaFaustus "If you would entertain my humble suggestion, you might want to fully spread your field before engaging.  Or wait up for the others.  I won't expect you to have the patience to wait for me, of course.  I admit that's a bit much."
10:01 * Griet has managed to cover not only herself, but large areas of the kitchen in flour and god-knows what else, she jumps and looks a bit guilty. "Um....pie?"
10:01 Griet "I mean...pie...sir?"
10:02 Dostov "I know it seems wreckless and...yeah I should have spread my field...but the sooner I can reach it, hopefully the further away from the base we are."

10:03 TanyaIvanova I *was* wandering around, looking for a sparring partner, but if I don't find anyone, I think I'll join Dostov, Elsa, and the EVAs.
10:04 Night10194 As you scamper in, you see your 'mother' overseeing some of the EVA implantation and modification, and Elsa and Dostov chatting a bit in front of Unit 41.
10:05 NathanielDurond "The aroma is heavenly Griet, bravo." He raises an eyebrow and takes a look at her. "Although Dostov might be a bit unhappy about the mess."
10:06 * Griet puts the slightly demented looking pie in the oven, then looks around at the havoc she's wrought. Maybe he won't notice?
10:07 TanyaIvanova I am going to barge in on my comrades, with a grin and a, "It's so hard to find someone worth sparring with in this place. …What are you two up to?"
10:08 NathanielDurond "I'll help you clean it up right after a bit of news. I've spoken to my superiors about your parents."
10:09 ElsaFaustus "Hmm?  Oh, just reminiscing and trading life stories.  Well, that's what I'm doing.  I think Dostov is still kind of upset after his little ride in the flying plug."
10:09 * Dostov rests his hands on his hips, looking to Tanya as she appears. "Well...it was embarrassing as hell."
10:10 Griet "Sir, are they alright?"
10:11 ElsaFaustus "So what brings you here, Tanya?"
10:12 TanyaIvanova "It would have been more embarrassing if you'd been more injured. As it was, you were still useful. And we killed the thing, so … all's well." A grin, and a pat on the back for Dostov. Then a shrug for Elsa. "I was bored, and being around Cernobog is … soothing would be a good word."
10:12 * NathanielDurond makes a brushing motion. "You don't need to call me sir on your day off. And they're doing well. They've found jobs in a munition factory. I'll continue keeping an eye out"

10:13 * Griet relaxes slightly. "Oh, thank you. I don't suppose there was any word of my brothers?"
10:13 TanyaIvanova A nod. "He's like a very good friend."
10:15 NathanielDurond "I haven't heard anything yet. But I will let you know."

10:16 ElsaFaustus "So how long have you two been here?"

10:17 TanyaIvanova "…about as long as you have. …But I've been in this life since I can remember."
10:18 * Griet crouches down and peers into the oven, nothing appears to be on fire.

10:18 Griet stands up and looks back at the captain  "I think the pie will be in the oven for a while, but would you like to share some with us later? Provided it's edible?
10:20 NathanielDurond "Certainly. I am quite excited by the prospect. Do you know where the others are?"
10:21 Dostov "I'm gonna head back, see what the others are up to." He smiles to Elsa, all warmth and friendliness, then turns to Tanya. "We should have a serious match sometime." He gives another smile and heads out, but not before giving Tanya a gentle punch in the arm in passing.
10:21 * MikoNakamura looks very excited by the prospect of pie.
10:23 ElsaFaustus "How cute.  He wants to beat you up."
10:24 TanyaIvanova Tanya smiles at Dostov as he goes. "Sparring is a very important part of the military life, Schnitzel."

10:24 * Dostov pauses inside the door, sniffing the air.
10:24 ElsaFaustus "I'm not an expert in such matters, but isn't that supposed to be a sign he likes you.  Likes you likes you, I mean."
10:25 Night10194 Dostov: Thereis flour EVERYWHERE. The Kitchen is a mess.

10:26 * Griet freezes like a deer caught in headlights.

10:29 * Griet shrinks a bit "Um....yes? But I was going to clean it up....I wanted to make everyone pie."
10:29 Dostov He runs a finger through the layer of flour on the counter, then turns to her, looking very serious.
10:29 TanyaIvanova Tanya scoffs and almost laughs. "That's ludicrous. We're teammates. He knows that the mission is of the utmost importance."
10:30 ElsaFaustus "He's also a boy."  I grin.
10:32 TanyaIvanova "…so was Sgt. Dobrovsky. and so is Captain Durond. and that officious idiot at the firing range. There are plenty of boys on the base and I think that they all know that we are here to save the world first."
10:34 * MikoNakamura stands by the door silently, watching the tense situation play out.
10:34 Night10194 Passing Tech: "You see the battle footage?" Tech 2: "Yeah...why did it explode like a cross, anyhow...?"
10:35 * Dostov reaches out for Griet. He places a finger on her forehead and runs it down to the tip of her nose, leaving a trail of flour. *Snrk* "Hahaha!"
10:35 TanyaIvanova And now Tanya changes the subject: "…isn't Mephistopheles like a friend to you? The way I described Cernobog, I mean. When you've been inside him, don't you feel like … like you know him, and he's something special?"
10:36 * Griet squeaks and jumps back. Then tries to figure out what that was supposed to mean.
10:36 Griet "So....does this mean you aren't mad?"
10:36 Dostov "Why would I be?"
10:36 ElsaFaustus "No.  More like a partner on a class project.  We're here to do a job and do it well."

10:37 Griet "It's your kitchen?"
10:38 Griet "I promise to clean it up! I didn't realize how messy cooking was..."
10:38 Dostov Oh God he's going to crush you! No, wait, he's hugging you. "It's just a kitchen, they get messy."

10:43 * Griet hunts around for oven mitts and pulls the pie out of the oven.
10:43 * MikoNakamura smiles brightly and nods. "Of course! I'll fetch a broom!"
10:43 Griet Looking slightly rumpled from the doom-hug.
10:43 * NathanielDurond produces a broom from behind his back. "Lets get sweeping, yes?"
10:44 ElsaFaustus "I believe you are being disingenuous, komeraden."  I chuckle, walking off back to quarters.
10:44 * Griet eyes the pie curiously....."I think it looks right..."

10:45 TanyaIvanova She'll be a bit behind Elsa, because she's confused and needs a moment to mull this over. But yes.

10:46 * Griet shrugs, no fixing it now if it's bad, and starts cleaning up the counters.

10:48 TanyaIvanova Tanya gives the kitchen a long, skeptical glance. "….did someone blow up a bag of flour?"
10:49 Night10194 It smells like cinnamon, fresh bread, and apple!
10:49 * NathanielDurond hands Elsa a broom and Tanya a dustpan. "Team building experience. Or cleaning, depending on your perspective."
10:50 TanyaIvanova Tanya hold the dustpan out to Elsa. "I'll trade you."
10:50 ElsaFaustus "I like the broom.  It's a deadly weapon like my pallet gun."  I get to work, sweeping.
10:51 TanyaIvanova Tanya attentively follows her, getting down on the floor to catch the mess.
10:53 * MikoNakamura sings an upbeat song in Japanese about cleaning.

11:05 Night10194 Hovering just a short ways off the ground, the creature is about 60m in length, thin and bug-like, with thousands of insectile legs lining its underbelly like some kind of obscene, winged parody of a millipede. It's pure white, like the last one, save its enormous, red core on its underside, almost making it look pregnant with the massive crystal. The entire body is covered in some kind

11:06 Night10194 Also: Don't worry about movement for your SUPERSONIC JET FIGHTERS. Those can move wherever the hell they want.
11:07 Night10194 Anyway, deploy at ranges and positioning. The thing seems limited to a low altitude, but it's moving like lightning.
11:09 * NathanielDurond closes his eyes, visualizing the battlefield. Flat, featureless, no tactical complications worth speaking of. "Tanks in defensive line 50 meters west of base of operations. VTOLs to intercept at 250. Interceptors on ready 1."
11:10 Griet Time to do the climb into the EVA thing.
11:10 Night10194 Bridge Officer: "Aye sir!" Since it's so soon, all pilots are using their SR from last battle.
11:10 Night10194 Tank Commander: "Govorit Pokryshkin! Fire at will, sir?"
11:12 Night10194 The Vrag's action...it simply ignores the VTOLS, sprinting forward at high speed, easily faster than the VTOLS, though not by much. Small change: VTOL movement rate is now 8/16/72/96
11:12 Night10194 Choppers are actually quite fast.
11:12 Night10194 The creature advances quickly, up to 130dm of the base. Order the tanks to open up?
11:13 NathanielDurond Well, that answers how fast it is. "Fire at will commander!"
11:14 Night10194 Righteous Fury on one tank...One volley of shells begins to break through the defensive barrier of shining armor, but can't get all the way through. The barrier seems to be restoring itself, the AT field formed into solid, physical armor that's stopping all the incoming fire!
11:14 NathanielDurond "Interceptors, launch and target the Vrag's wing joints"
11:15 Night10194 Interceptor Commander: "Sir, all missiles hit the target! Fire is ineffective!" The creature continues to advance, Charging one of the tank squadrons.
11:15 Night10194 Missing! They're able to disperse in time to avoid the hit. "Damnit! Vrag in close combat, commander!"
11:16 Night10194 Round 2! What are your units doing?
11:17 NathanielDurond This thing have anything resembling eyes?
11:17 Night10194 Not that you can see. So much of the body is the Core.
11:18 ElsaFaustus Could always aim for that.
11:18 NathanielDurond "Tank squadrons, disperse, fire at core if able. VTOL, catch up as quick as you can. Interceptors, fire at the core."
11:19 Night10194 The tanks move away to prevent getting rolled up in melee, and fire as they do so. The VTOLS manage to move to firing range, but have no time to fire, having flat-outed for the target.
11:20 Night10194 The tank fire keeps shattering through portions of that armor, but can't seem to break it completely. This is a new use of the AT field...Rather than try to deflect its whole body mass, it simply surrounds itself.
11:20 Night10194 Interceptors: "Fire ineffective, sir! Guess there'll be no more medals today..."
11:21 Night10194 Creature charges another tank squadron, since they're too dispersed to Swift Attack.
