ODIN: I'd like to ask the same thing. What was that you were doing? Explain yourself.

OPHELIA: D-do I have to ex-

ODIN: Explain yourself.

OPHELIA: Um... I'm rehearsing. One day, I'm going to drive the dark mastermind who dominates the world into a corner, and then at the very end, I'll take the dark powers he fires at me, and exploit it to make a comeback victory...

ODIN: I see...

OPHELIA: Y-you're scaring me... Do you not like it? Do you think it's dumb?

ODIN: No, it's just...

OPHELIA: Just what?

ODIN: ... Forget it. I'd rather not say.

OPHELIA: Dad! ...Where'd he go? ... So he's telling me I still have a way to go, in his own roundabout way...? Talk about harsh... well, he is the Chosen One, after all.

OPHELIA: I'd like to ask you the same thing... I mean, that's... my...

ODIN: To tell you the truth... I was improving on your catchphrase...

OPHELIA: Improving...?

ODIN: No... I'll tell you the truth. I wasn't improving anything. Your catchphrase was so dang cool, I couldn't resist copying it.

OPHELIA: ...Huh?

ODIN: Sorry... I'm really sorry, Ophelia... so sorry that I wanna crawl into a hole... I'm ashamed of myself...

OPHELIA: So that's what you were doing. Nothing wrong with that, is there? In fact, that means you thought I was cool, right?

ODIN: ... Yeah. The first thing that struck me was the innovation in adding your own sound effects after unleashing your attack. And pulling off a comeback victory against the evil kingpin is a real gutsy setup... and then at the end, where you go "my grand epics... come to an end!" is downright radical! I could never hope to pull that off. You've truly got those next-generation tastes that grab you by the heart!

OPHELIA: I must be dreaming... for you to praise me this much...! But, you're the one who's truly amazing here.

ODIN: Huh?

OPHELIA: I mean, I've always copied you ever since I was a kid. I wanted to be the Chosen One, just like you. But, I realized that I couldn't become the Chosen One just by copying others, so I put my own spin on it. So basically, I started off with you as the base, so it's really all you, Dad.

ODIN: ...Ahahaha. I never thought the day would come when my daughter would accept me like this.

OPHELIA: Oh, I know. Why don't we improve our speech for real!? I mean the speech we'll make when the two of us drive the dark mastermind who dominates the world into a corner.

ODIN: That's... an amazing idea! Just let me think about this for a sec... There's a lot that I'd wanna say... but first, we'll need to call ourselves the Chosen Family somewhere in there, and also...

OPHELIA: Huh? the Chosen Family... Does that mean... I'm one of the Chosen too? Oh dear... I'm so happy I could cry. ... No, don't get the wrong idea, Ophelia. You're not even ready to look at the ground Dad walks on just yet.

ODIN: Alright, I'm all ready.

ODIN: Oh, Ophelia. Those lines you came up with were so good, they sent shivers down my spine. It's truly got that mystery to it that's perfect for us, the Chosen Family.

OPHELIA: About that... Are we really the Chosen Family?

ODIN: Y-yeah... At least, that's the way I'm writing it.

OPHELIA: That's not what I mean! Dad... I've always wanted to ask you... about this mark on my arm...

ODIN: Is this the Stigmata...!? Ophelia, when did you...

OPHELIA: It showed up when I joined this army. Is it called the Stigmata...?

ODIN: No, the Stigmata's just a temporary name... i-it's actually... yeah, okay... It's actually the proof of your lineage... The Mark of the Royal Brand!

OPHELIA: Dad! Now is not the time!

ODIN: Yeah, sorry...

OPHELIA: You just said it was "the proof of my lineage", didn't you? You don't mean, you've got the same mark...?

ODIN: Yeah...

OPHELIA: Really!? L-Let me see!

ODIN: Sorry... it's gone now... or maybe I should say it got hidden... They told me I should cover it up when I came here.

OPHELIA: When you came here...?

ODIN: ...

OPHELIA: I don't get it, but this is something you gotta hide, right...? Tell me the truth! Do I have any special powers? Is this mark really the sign of the Chosen One!?

ODIN: Nope... unfortunately, this mark doesn't let you do anything special. It's just the proof of your bloodline.

OPHELIA: Bloodline...?

ODIN: Yeah... and chances are, that bloodline doesn't have any special meaning in this world. Sorry for letting you down, but neither you, nor I, have any sort of special powers or anything. That's just the truth. I've also wished, countless times, to have that kind of power...

OPHELIA: So I'm not the Chosen One after all... Even if I have the same mark Dad does, it's just a mark...

ODIN: Ophelia... let me tell you one thing. Even if you don't have any power, you are special. The blood of great heroes flows through your veins. That of a holy emperor who slayed an evil dragon in the distant future... and also, that of the two valiant heroes who died protecting me.


OPHELIA: ... The future? A holy emperor? You're not making any sense, Dad... and why do you look like you're about to cry?

ODIN: Sorry... you don't need to understand right now. But, one day, you'll surely come to have pride in that marking. A certain princess once longed to have that mark, though she never did obtain it. I'm sure she'd be happy to know it appeared on you. I'll tell you more one of these days.

OPHELIA: Promise me, Dad.

ODIN: I promise.

OPHELIA: Alright. Show me your mark sometime, okay? I'll be waiting for that day to come.

ODIN: Thanks, Ophelia... Can I tell you something? We don't have any special powers. But, we've got the role of being the closest to someone with that special power, and supporting them. So, your sweet one-liners won't go to waste, you got that? The main character can only shine their brightest with a proper sidekick!

OPHELIA: You're right! Well then, we've gotta think of some lines! Something cool, that we can say when we've beaten the evil mastermind!

ODIN: Yeah, you're right...!

And, after we say it... I'll have to ask you whether you're gonna stay here, or come with me. I know it'll be a hard choice... but, for now...

OPHELIA: Dad? What's wrong?

ODIN: Nothing at all. I was just feeling out the power in my words. Now, let's go make up some new lines, Ophelia! Ones that will blow our old ones outta the water!
