Taking great photos in good light is relatively easy and something most smartphone camera do really well. Where it gets hard is low light. 80% of photos are taken in less than ideal light so it is important to really concentrate on that
We see the most challenging common photography use case is trying to take a quick snap of a kid and we have made a bunch of decisions to excel in such challenging scenarios.

Why is such situation challenging: app has to launch fast and be fast, AF needs to focus quickly and accurately, need to be very sensitive to light to catch a moving subject, and mostly such cases you have to capture as much detail as possible in most times challenging light conditions.

Powered by efficiency

A battery that works smarter, not harder

Android Marshmallow’s battery-smart features help your device retain its charge longer. For instance, when your device is at rest, Doze automatically puts it into a sleep state. So your phone can still set off your alarm in the morning even if you forgot to charge it. Phew! And your seldom used apps will go into App Standby in order to conserve battery for the apps you use regularly.

Doze: Android Marshmallow recognizes when your device is resting and automatically goes into a deep sleep state to conserve power while still allowing all your alarms, notifications and calls to ring through. We’re seeing up to 2x improvements in standby battery life on Nexus 9*.

App Standby ensures apps that haven’t been used recently have a reduced battery impact while they’re in the background. And if an app hasn’t been used for several days, its power consumption is reduced to zero. Of course, apps will come out of Standby immediately if you interact with them.

Doze detects when your device has been idle for a long time (couple hours) and then starts to exponentially back off the power usage. It's sort of like a sleep state except (1) it's automatic and (2) your calls, notifications etc all ring through. Main use case is if you forget to plug in your phone when you go to bed, it's not out of juice when you wake up in the morning and your alarm clock will still ring through on your phone

Clearer choices over the data you care about

No need to give apps an all-access all the time. Marshmallow lets you define what you want to share and when. Turn permissions off at any time, too.

Apps designed for Android Marshmallow only ask for permission the first time you try to use a feature rather than asking for permissions out of context. You can deny any permission and still continue to use the app. Advanced controls to turn permissions on or off for all your installed apps.
