  1. ATAVIST (Brawler Archetype)
  2.
  3. Some primitive tribal warriors feel a call to nature that is unable to be silenced, fighting like feral and savage beasts. Such people are sometimes mistakenly believed to be lycanthropes, but others are exalted and praised as shamanistic avatars of their people's spirit-animals. From the panther warriors of the Mwangi Expanse to the berserkers of the Linnorm Kingdoms, these types can be found in any sort of place where nature runs rampant.
  4.
  5. *Skills: The atavist adds Fly, Knowledge (Nature), and Survival to her class skill list, and removes Knowledge (Engineering) and Ride. This alters the brawler's class skills.
  6. *Proficiencies: An atavist is proficient with all simple weapons, as well as all weapons from the Close and Natural fighter weapon groups. She is also proficient in light armor (but not shields). This alters the brawler's proficiencies.
  7. *Beast Affinity (Su): At 1st level, an atavist develops a natural weapon, chosen from the following list: Bite, Claws (x2), Gore, Hooves (x2), Slam, Talons (x2), Wing Slap (x2). Once selected it cannot be changed. As a swift action, the atavist can manifest her natural weapon, or end it as a free action. This physical change is a polymorph effect. An atavist’s natural weapons (including ones gained from other sources) are unaffected by the Improved Natural Attack monster feat or any similar feat that improve the damage of natural attacks. If the atavist increases or decreases in size, her natural attack damage is adjusted accordingly.
  8. Usually, the atavist's natural attacks (including ones gained from other sources) deal lethal damage, but she can choose to deal nonlethal damage instead with no penalty on her attack roll. She has the same choice to deal lethal or nonlethal damage while grappling. An atavist's natural weapons are treated as both manufactured weapons and natural weapons for the purpose of spells and effects that modify either manufactured weapons or natural weapons.
  9. Regardless of her natural weapons' normal damage (including from other sources), an atavist's natural weapons deal damage as a Brawler's unarmed strikes based on her level if they are primary attacks, and deal damage of a Brawler of her level - 4 if they are secondary attacks. If an atavist has secondary natural attacks before 5th level, the secondary natural weapons deal 1d4 damage (1d3 if the atavist is small, 1d6 if the atavist is large).
  10. This ability replaces unarmed strike and close weapon mastery.
  11. *Feral Focus (Su): At 2nd level, an atavist gains a limited ability to change her shape into hybrid animal forms. This functions as the hunter’s animal focus class feature, except that the atavist always applies the animal aspect to herself, and there is no limit to this ability's duration. She can end this ability as a free action. An atavist may activate or end her beast affinity ability simultaneously with her feral focus. When an atavist uses this ability, her body takes on cosmetic aspects of an animal, such as furry skin, longer nails, elongated teeth, and oddly colored eyes; these changes do not grant her any abilities other than what is stated in the animal focus, and end when she takes on a different aspect or ends the ability. This physical change is a polymorph effect, though the effects of the animal focus are not. An atavist may choose from the normal Hunter options, or may choose an animal from the Courtly Hunter, Scarab Stalker, or Verminous Hunter archetypes.
  12. This ability replaces the bonus feat gained at 2nd level.
  13. *Greater Feral Focus (Su): An atavist's potential is unlocked whenever she takes on an animal aspect. She chooses one ability from the following list at 5th level, a second ability at 11th level, and a third ability at 17th level, gaining the ability whenever she enters a feral focus.
  14. >>Amphibious and the [Aquatic] subtype
  15. >>Climb Speed 30 feet
  16. >>Darkvision +30 feet and Low-Light Vision
  17. >>Flexible Frame
  18. >>Grab
  19. >>Pounce
  20. >>Powerful Build
  21. >>Swim Speed 30 feet
  22. >>Winged Flight Speed 30 feet (Good)
  23. An atavist can instead choose to gain an additional set of natural weapons (such as a bite, or two claws) that can be manifested in the same action as their first set from Beast Affinity, in place of an ability at any of these levels. The natural weapon or weapons chosen must be a set that the atavist does not already possess. This ability replaces the bonus feats gained at 5th, 11th, and 17th levels.
  24. *Second Animal Focus (Su): At 8th level, the atavist gains the hunter’s second animal focus ability. This ability replaces the bonus feat gained at 8th level.
  25. *Burst of Speed (Ex): At 14th level, an atavist gains a +10 bonus to all of her movement speeds, as well as a bonus to her initiative equal to 1/4th of her class level (rounded down). This replaces the bonus feat gained at 14th level.
  26. *Pure Power (Ex): At 20th level, an atavist reaches the apex of her abilities. She gains a +2 bonus to her Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution. This replaces the bonus feat gained at 20th level.
