  1. WE ASKED you to re-design the Vancouver Canucks' uniforms and you answered us - overwhelmingly and enthusiastically.
  2.
  3. And what began as a fun exercise turned into a headache for Sun hockey writer Mike Beamish and fashion writer Virginia Leeming whose job it was to wade through a mountain of more than 300 entries and pick a winner.
  4.
  5. Entrants were asked to send us a drawing, in color, on an 8 1/2 -by-11-inch sheet of paper and we'd feature the best entries in the newspaper.
  6.
  7. For the most part, the logos included variations on popular themes - skates, mountains, waves and the letter V - and a few of an editorial nature: a turkey, clowns, and one of a knobby-kneed misfit wearing prison stripes and a pink tutu.
  8.
  9. Although the Canucks have no plans to change their current togs, it's obvious a lot of people think they should.
  10.
  11. Our winner is 28-year-old Angelo Loperfido of Burnaby, a budding graphic artist who hopes to be a syndicated political cartoonist.
  12.
  13. Loperfido's entry was one of three he submitted and the one he considered "almost an afterthought". His personal favorite was a more conservative, corporate design using the Canucks' original NHL colors of blue, green and white.
  14.
  15. Said Leeming: "Our first place winner had it all. Strong color combination, well-placed color blocking for easy identification and best yet, a logo that reflected the West Coast (Haida Indian) heritage."
  16.
  17. Explained Beamish: "The concept was striking and powerful. You can just imagine the opposition feeling shabby and underdressed."
  18.
  19. Loperfido wins a pair of tickets to each of the four visits by the Stanley Cup champion Edmonton Oilers to Pacific Coliseum next season.
  20.
  21. Second prize winner Jeremie White, 18, of North Vancouver and third prize winner Dale Norrie of Vancouver each receive a pair of tickets to the next west coast visit by the Montreal Canadiens.
  22.
  23. William Knight of Burnaby, Loperfido and Randy Turner of Vancouver were judged the best in a separate category - logos. Each will receive a Canucks T-shirt, donated by the team.
  24.
  25. Uniform design winners also receive T-shirts.
  26.
  27. Our thanks to all who entered.
