She looks rather fidgety and neurotic. "Look, ever since I figured this spirit stuff out, and I really haven't yet, it's startin' t' make me wonder what we do, y'know?..."

But I do not believe that reapers are necessary for death. Certainly I would not believe that they must be there for a pony to be murdered."

While she may share some similarities to the spirits of nature, I do not believe she -is- one, not truly. If the reapers had a means to interact with the world the way she can, it is doubtful they would have needed help at Luna's School."
  12. [2014-06-11 13:25:51] <Mare-Do-Well> 3Light flashes across the cloud-blackened sky, the jungle rainstorm turning late day to night. Rain pours down through the canopy above, sparkling off the purple light of Noble_Heart's shield. Wind animates the foliage, and tugs at the mesh of the tents.

And she shoulda went away when death shoulda taken her soul away, it's just that th' megaspell just kept her down here. She can interact with stuff around because that's apparently what being a spirit of pony does."

"But that would in turn imply that, not being spirits of ponies, the elemental spirits and death spirits have no agency in our world without outside help. Which rather supports what I have already asserted, that a fire spirit cannot start a fire without assistance in our world. They merely facilitate, not originate."
  15. [2014-06-11 13:31:55] * Fridge is rather happy to be in a bubble. She's also happy that her shift's almost over so she can get in the warm tent. "When we talk to a fire spirit, I'd be sure as heck glad t' ask 'em t' see if they can't start one. But that kinda means that bein' a spirit of pony is a spirit of animation. Which is pretty cool, but it's kinda a little scary at th' same time."
  16. [2014-06-11 13:33:49] * Bookwright "Given what we know of spirits and interactions from the Reapers, I'd say that a fire spirit couldn't start a fire on its own, but it could imbue a living creature with conflagratory power."
  17. [2014-06-11 13:35:50] * Fridge flicks an ear up. "Yeah. So does that mean that beinYer up fer yer shift there, Bookie?"
  18. [2014-06-11 13:36:05] * CopyCat snoozes happily, sleeping inside the tent while she had the chance.
  19. [2014-06-11 13:36:27] <Fridge> "So does that mean bein' a spirit of pony is bein' a weird spirit of animation?"
  20. [2014-06-11 13:36:28] * Bookwright grimaces. "I can't help being up. I find it impossible to sleep when people are talking about interesting things."
  21. [2014-06-11 13:38:00] * Noble_Heart chuckles slightly. "My apologies. Perhaps we should be more boring?" She looked to Golden Dream. "So, how do you like the weather recently? It has seemed rather less gray in the last few decades, at least."
  22. [2014-06-11 13:39:54] <Little_Gloom> 3The jungle grows darker and darker. Soon the only light at all is the glow of Noble_Heart's shield and Golden_Dream's PipBuck. (Unless any in the tents have chosen not to put out their lights and go to sleep.)
  23. [2014-06-11 13:40:09] * Bookwright stubbornly tries to sleep
  24. [2014-06-11 13:40:53] * Golden_Dream rolls her eyes and plays along. "Why yes, Noble. You could even possibly see some sun out of th' canopy trees today."
  25. [2014-06-11 13:44:45] * Noble_Heart giggles a little bit and extends a wing around Golden Dream. "I would imagine the moon and stars would look lovely. Though the trees do block the view a bit." She looked up towards the sky. "And the clouds and rain, as well."
  26. [2014-06-11 13:46:04] <Little_Gloom> 3A hush falls over the jungle. The winds blow the frawns and foliage, but them do not rustle. Rain pours across the canopy and falls in rivers from the branches but doesn't make a sound.
  27. [2014-06-11 13:47:40] * Golden_Dream bites her lip and instinctively takes a moment to listen in on the silence. When all goes quiet, it usually means bad things are going to happen. The itch on the back of her mind said so. "... Noble, get th' others. Somethin' weird's happenin'."
  28. [2014-06-11 13:48:52] * Noble_Heart looks up and around. The sudden silence of the rain was... Concerning to say the least. She stood and moved towards the nearest tent her friends were within, letting the light of her shield shine infront of her as she did. It was time to wake the others, for certain.
  29. [2014-06-11 13:48:53] <Little_Gloom> 3Golden_Dream's own voice raises barely above a whisper.
  30. [2014-06-11 13:49:20] * CopyCat snores soundlessly.
  31. [2014-06-11 13:50:30] * Golden_Dream stays at alert and unslung her shotgun and went low against the ground to be able to react quickly.
  32. [2014-06-11 14:11:20] <Little_Gloom> 3Deep in the shadows of the forest, Golden_Dream spots a pale figure -- a tall, gaunt, stripeless zebra staring back at her.
  33. [2014-06-11 14:13:21] * Golden_Dream catches a glance of the pale figure. She didn't really know what to make of it, so all she could mention was pointing it out to Noble by turning her head towards it.
  34. [2014-06-11 14:13:48] * Bookwright sleeps peacefully.
  35. [2014-06-11 14:15:02] * Get_Hot is sleeping an making beeping noises. meanwhile, parlay is taking selfies with everypone!
  36. [2014-06-11 14:16:24] * Noble_Heart blinks in some surprise as Golden Dream turns her head, the sudden smaller pony's hooves wrenching her around a bit wasn't so normal. She looked in that direction a few moments trying to figure out what she was supposed to be looking at.
  37. [2014-06-11 14:19:03] * Golden_Dream nods, then raises her hoof. "Noble. Brighten it up a bit here. Wake everypony up." He talk-whispered.

  39. [2014-06-11 14:21:16] * Golden_Dream waves at the critter. She doesn't start fights, she prefers to be the survivor of them.
  40. [2014-06-11 14:21:34] <Little_Gloom> 3Golden_Dream sees a black tentacle, visible only against the utter paleness of the featureless zebra lifts up to hover over where its mouth should be... resembling a "shush" motion.
  41. [2014-06-11 14:22:09] <Little_Gloom> 3Noble_Heart sees only darkness and purple light reflecting off the nearest trees.
  42. [2014-06-11 14:23:13] * CopyCat noms on Get_Hot's tail in her sleep.
  43. [2014-06-11 14:23:25] * Noble_Heart blinks in confusion. "I do not see anything." She raised her horn as it glowed, a brilliant light moving into the air like a flare which hung at low altitude illuminating the entire camp nearly blindingly bright. WIth luck, that would wake most of them up, since making noise didn't seem possible at the moment.
  44. [2014-06-11 14:24:05] * Golden_Dream raises an eyebrow and simply nods back. She didn't understand, but she definitely wanted to at least /pretend/ she did.
  45. [2014-06-11 14:24:30] * Get_Hot is slowly nommed by the evil goddess. alas, poor get lost, she was a good pone
  46. [2014-06-11 14:26:18] <Little_Gloom> 3The tall, gaunt, pale zebra figure flickers and vanishes. In the same moment, the roar of the storm returns.
  47. [2014-06-11 14:26:46] <Little_Gloom> 3The darkness remains dark, albeit perhaps a little less oppressively so.
  48. [2014-06-11 14:28:06] * Bookwright groans "Stop aiming the flashlight in my eyes, I'm awake already... what is it?"
  49. [2014-06-11 14:29:56] * Golden_Dream churns her thoughts around for spare ideas.
  50. [2014-06-11 14:31:23] * Bookwright "No, seriously Noble Heart. What is it?"
  51. [2014-06-11 14:32:00] * CopyCat somehow remains asleep despite Noble's miniature sun.
  52. [2014-06-11 14:32:25] * Golden_Dream bites her lip, then silently goes up to Copycat and jumps on her a few times.
  53. [2014-06-11 14:33:45] * Noble_Heart blinks and tilts her head, looking up towards Golden Dream. "I am... Uncertain." She faces Bookwright. "The sound of the storm, and everything else, stopped for some time. And Golden Dream seems to have seen something quite jarring, though I did not see it."
  54. [2014-06-11 14:34:22] * Bookwright finally gets his glasses on and peers intently at Golden_Dream. "Well, I'm awake now. What is it?"
  55. [2014-06-11 14:34:38] * CopyCat cannot, however, remain alseep while mares are jumping on her. "Bwa! Golden_Dream, what is it? Oh, is it my turn to stand watch?"
  56. [2014-06-11 14:35:03] * CopyCat tilts her head. "And why does my mouth taste like Get_Hot?"
  57. [2014-06-11 14:35:11] * Golden_Dream quietly taps on her head and her horn. She thought of the figure.
  58. [2014-06-11 14:35:45] * Shatara rollgroans. "What's all the babbling...?"
  59. [2014-06-11 14:36:33] * CopyCat blinks at Golden_Dream. "You made a friend? You should have invited him in. It sounds like rain out there."
  60. [2014-06-11 14:37:54] * Get_Hot wakes up because of the noide. yawns and her wisor turns on "what time is it?"
  61. [2014-06-11 14:39:09] * Golden_Dream then thought of the weird part of him and then their frantic effort to silently wake them and then maybe say that it's a good idea to share with the class.
  62. [2014-06-11 14:40:06] * CopyCat blinks. "Oh, so he's the strong silent type?"
  63. [2014-06-11 14:40:41] * Noble_Heart frowns a little and yawns a moment, covering it with a hoof. "Didn't you find some book or something earlier you were worried about? Perhaps it's just getting to you a bit?" It wasn't that she didn't trust Golden Dream, she certainly did, but it seemed odd.
  64. [2014-06-11 14:41:37] * Golden_Dream jolts up. Oh, shit. The book!
  65. [2014-06-11 14:42:01] * Golden_Dream immediately starts to scramble for the book and then starts reading the notes along the margins.
  66. [2014-06-11 14:43:54] * CopyCat nods at Noble_Heart. "Yeah, Golden_Dream just saw a pale gaunt zebra with shadowy tentacles lurking in the jungle. Who also happened to absorb all sound and could vanish in the blink of an eye. I'm sure there's nothing to worry about." CopyCat smiles serenely.
  67. [2014-06-11 14:46:00] * Get_Hot yawns again "kid had a nightmare while on watch duty? how professional..."
  68. [2014-06-11 14:46:05] * Noble_Heart tilted her head to one side. "Well, the sound dampening is definitely real. But there are more mundane magics which can do that. Though it is strange, for certain." She tapped her chin. "Though even if such a thing is out there, what do we do about it? Maintaining a light spell like that for hours would be exhausting bordering on impossible."
  69. [2014-06-11 14:48:43] <Little_Gloom> 3The notes in the margins suggest the mare who wrote them certainly took the stories... or, at least, the one about Slendermane... quite seriously. If not exactly literally.
  70. [2014-06-11 14:50:34] * CopyCat yawns. "Perhaps we could sleep our way through?"
  71. [2014-06-11 14:50:55] * Bookwright simply stares at CopyCat. "Right. So Golden_Dream saw a freaky deaky thing and you're just going to go back to sleep?"
  72. [2014-06-11 14:51:40] * Golden_Dream would now confess to believing it, because, well. Seeing. Believing. That sort of thing. She started pouring over the lore, trying to figure out what it is and what it does.
  73. [2014-06-11 14:52:17] <Little_Gloom> 3The scribbles include such things as: "Manifestations conform to cultural identity?" and "Story details vary wildly. Are the finer points being forgotten, filled in by imagination?" "Seven go missing? Or twelve?"
  74. [2014-06-11 14:53:15] * CopyCat nods at Bookwright. "You wouldn't?"
  75. [2014-06-11 14:54:00] * Bookwright pouts, "But, but, but, I'm filled with the spirit of inquiry! Aren't you?"
  76. [2014-06-11 14:55:08] * Golden_Dream has this grim expression on her face. Wide eyed. Long faced. Dread pouring out of her expression. She quietly set the book down, put it back where she found it, and then contemplated in silence. For a little while, at least. "It's a /fucking zebra ghost/!"
  77. [2014-06-11 14:56:10] * Bookwright "So?"
  78. [2014-06-11 14:56:12] * Get_Hot yawns again "well, if you're right, at leat i'll lose virginity, this time..."
  79. [2014-06-11 14:56:26] * Shatara blinkwats...
  80. [2014-06-11 14:56:44] * Get_Hot then looka outside "parlay! help bookie with this ghostbuste thing please"
  81. [2014-06-11 14:56:54] * CopyCat shakes her head. "Tonight I'm filled with the spirit of sleepy..." Then she blushes at what Golden_Dream said, until she realises Golden meant something else.
  82. [2014-06-11 14:57:25] * Get_Hot the tobot bleeps merrily and starts orbiting bookie while her creator goes back to sleep with copy

  84. [2014-06-11 14:57:51] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side. "Are you certain it's a ghost? And not something else..? It might explain why I could not see it. But I haven't heard of ghosts being able to create darkness or silence. I would think that most would be more visible if they could."
  85. [2014-06-11 15:00:34] * Golden_Dream inhaled deeply. Right. Fuck. Damnit. Celestia fuck this nonsense. This didn't scare her! She wasn't scared! This was stupid! She- She'd talk it out of haunting them. Right, she'd just exorcise it like last time! She wouldn't even be alone this time. Right? "... Noble, turn th' light down and everypony be quiet. Let's see if we can get it again."
  86. [2014-06-11 15:00:58] * Bookwright lies back down and tries to go back to sleep.
  87. [2014-06-11 15:02:21] * Noble_Heart gently places a wing around Golden Dream. "I shall try to protect you as best I can."
  88. [2014-06-11 15:03:32] * CopyCat stands up and stretches. "Okay Golden_Dream, I'll help. We can be not-scared together."
  89. [2014-06-11 15:03:38] * Shatara groans and rolls over.
  90. [2014-06-11 15:05:16] * Get_Hot the robot bumps a couple of times into bookie's flank. she was supposed to hellp him investigate and he investigated by sleeping! ssilly pony!
  91. [2014-06-11 15:05:32] * Bookwright swats at it and steadfastly tries to sleep.
  92. [2014-06-11 15:06:10] * Get_Hot boops and beeeps and weeewoooweeewoos

  97. [2014-06-11 15:10:28] <Little_Gloom> 3Outside the tents, it is still dark and raining. The ground is spongy beneath the hooves. The rain is not too cold, but very wet.
  98. [2014-06-11 15:10:29] * CopyCat follows Golden_Dream and sleepily rests her chin on the filly's head. "S'okay... we can be super tough lone ranger solo ponies together, too."
  99. [2014-06-11 15:10:38] * Get_Hot parlay takes initiative! so, goes outside with Golden_Dream, lands on her hat and starts playing some cheap tenso music
  100. [2014-06-11 15:15:05] * Noble_Heart moves outside after Golden Dream. She stays close to the smaller pony, though she wasn't sure what was going on.
  101. [2014-06-11 15:17:18] <Little_Gloom> 3The two alicorns, the pony and the robot move away from the camp, into the dark embrace of the forest. A crack of brilliance overhead gives a flash-image of where the trees are, and the spaces between them.
  102. [2014-06-11 15:18:20] * Golden_Dream stood vigilantly. She wanted to meet the thing again. Right? Right. She's stared down the goddess of death. She's got this. Right? No, the goddess of death was really nice, and she still broke down. Fuck!
  103. [2014-06-11 15:20:25] * CopyCat murmurs. "You'll be fine. Just try not to fidget Pillow_Dream... I mean, Golden_Pillow~ I mean Golden_Dream."
  104. [2014-06-11 15:21:14] * Golden_Dream 's back fur is bristling up a bit. Hardly pillow-like behavior.
  105. [2014-06-11 15:23:26] * Noble_Heart chuckles a little bit at CopyCat's choices of words. "You have friends and need not face the darkness alone. Do not feel you must."
  106. [2014-06-11 15:24:50] * Get_Hot the robot beeps too, then goes back playing some horror BG music. this time from some forgotten zombie game
  107. [2014-06-11 15:25:23] * Golden_Dream remains quiet at that point. She didn't want to follow that up with an argument, and wanting to get the silence slenderzebra thing again was her excuse not to fall for it.
  108. [2014-06-11 15:25:37] <Little_Gloom> 3Minutes tick slowly by. The rain lightens to a drizzle, then becomes invigorated again. For some time there is no sign of anyone else, nor anything amiss, in the jungle.

  110. [2014-06-11 15:28:08] * Noble_Heart eartwitches, looking around at the silence. That was concerning again.
  111. [2014-06-11 15:29:25] <Little_Gloom> 3Copycat is suddenly aware of inky tentacles reaching around her from behind. They brush across her, not quite substantial and...
  112. [2014-06-11 15:37:43] * CopyCat turns all of a sudden and let's out a mental yelp. {Who's touching my behind!} But no sooner had she said this then she just stares blankly, clearly in shock.
  113. [2014-06-11 15:38:31] * Golden_Dream blinks, and then turns around quickly. Fuck! Not Copycat!
  114. [2014-06-11 15:40:35] * Get_Hot parlay beeps and merrily takes pictures!
  115. [2014-06-11 15:40:38] * Noble_Heart turns quickly to check what was going on in that direction!
  116. [2014-06-11 15:42:01] * CopyCat 's eyes are unfocused. She isn't really looking /at/ anything.
  117. [2014-06-11 15:44:01] <Little_Gloom> 3The tall, gaunt zebra with no features or stripes is looming behind CopyCat, between the group and the tents. Tendrals snake around it, coming from where its tail should be, surrounding CopyCat.
  118. [2014-06-11 15:45:00] * Noble_Heart flares her nostrils and casts a spell, brilliant purple light lancing towards the figure. Last time bright light had made it go away, let's see how it liked directed energy fire!
  119. [2014-06-11 15:45:08] <Little_Gloom> 3With multiple eyes (and cameras) on it, the zebra flickers and vanishes. Sound returns again.
  120. [2014-06-11 15:45:38] * Noble_Heart frowns as the figure vanishes moments before her spell would have hit. "Curses." This was going to be a problem, wasn't it?
  121. [2014-06-11 15:46:15] <Little_Gloom> 3Noble_Heart's spell passes through where the zebra-thing was just a blink before.
  122. [2014-06-11 15:46:44] * Get_Hot the robot plays the winning theme from FF7
  123. [2014-06-11 15:48:50] <Little_Gloom> 3In Parley's picture, the zebra-thing is blurry, faded, indistinct. But CopyCat is very clear -- if anything, sharper and more vibrantly green than in real life.
  124. [2014-06-11 15:54:53] * Golden_Dream jumps onto Noble's back and then brought her eyes on level to CopyCat's, grabbing her by the sides of her face. "CopyCat! CopyCat! Are you okay?"
  125. [2014-06-11 15:57:05] * Bookwright tosses and turns. Sleep has not come. "Get Lost, you sent Parley with them, right? Are you receiving video?"
  126. [2014-06-11 15:57:10] * Noble_Heart scowls, glancing aorund at the surrounding jungle. This was not good at all. Also not fair, which was a bit more frustrating but less life threatening.
  127. [2014-06-11 15:57:34] * CopyCat blinks, unseeing. "You can't be... You're gone. You're dead, you're dead! I'm someone else now!"
  128. [2014-06-11 15:58:12] * Get_Hot yawns and taps on her helmet "mh-mh" nods "looks like sometthing tentackeraped copy.... lucky girl..."

  130. [2014-06-11 15:58:56] * Bookwright "Eeew. That's nasty. And not at all nice. Do you think they need our help?"
  131. [2014-06-11 15:59:00] * Golden_Dream brings her eyes closer. "Copycat! Copycat, snap out of it!"
  132. [2014-06-11 15:59:07] * Shatara groans a little.
  133. [2014-06-11 15:59:33] * Get_Hot "well, almost... she's fine, but i guess we could always check ourselves..."
  134. [2014-06-11 16:00:03] * Get_Hot grabs shatara's tail and drags him with her "here, let's take a decoy"
  135. [2014-06-11 16:01:47] * Shatara ackflails about. "Watwatwat"
  136. [2014-06-11 16:03:03] * Noble_Heart blinks in confusion and frowns. "The Goddess cannot hurt you, CopyCat!" She extends a wing around the othr alicorn comforting as best she could.
  137. [2014-06-11 16:04:41] * Get_Hot turns towards Shatara "copy could be in trouble. wake up"
  138. [2014-06-11 16:05:41] * Shatara meeps and gets on his wings. "What's goin on?"
  139. [2014-06-11 16:06:05] * Bookwright gets up again, stretching. "Urgh, not gonna get good sleep tonight I guess. Come on Shatara, we've got to go stop CopyCat from being violated by ectoplasm."
  140. [2014-06-11 16:06:27] * Shatara blinkblinks. "Oh...my?"
  141. [2014-06-11 16:08:41] * CopyCat nearly jumps when Noble_Heart touches her with a wing. Something gets through to her and a spark of recognition flashes across her eyes as she looks at Golden_Dream. "G-Golden?"
  142. [2014-06-11 16:09:30] * Golden_Dream slowly nods, bi-chromatic eyes alight with worry. "Copycat, what did you see?"
  143. [2014-06-11 16:12:07] * Get_Hot "look i'm getting some feed from parlay and copy is in a bad state of confusion... she has no mind on her own, so, if we gather next to her, probably she'll regain clarity as soon as she's surrounded by friends... just come and give her a hug, please"
  144. [2014-06-11 16:12:38] * Bookwright "Alright Get Lost, show us the way they went please..."
  145. [2014-06-11 16:13:15] * CopyCat smiles with tears in her eyes. She hugs Golden_Dream's neck. "Nothing, don't worry. I just... I just saw a stranger."
  146. [2014-06-11 16:13:31] * Shatara nods. "Point the way..." he concurrs.

  202. [2014-06-11 17:12:39] * Noble_Heart gently keeps a wing around CopyCat. "One would assume it is who she used to be. Better that that one be forgotten if it hurts her so." She gives Bookwright a look which makes it clear she's not going to be happy if he pushes too hard, considering CopyCat's reaction before.
  203. [2014-06-11 17:14:10] * Bookwright is clearly unhappy about not learning someone's history, but decides to let it be.
  204. [2014-06-11 17:15:13] * Golden_Dream sighs, then sits down to be disappointed with herself. "So, I think that thing's a fear spirit."
  205. [2014-06-11 17:16:05] * Noble_Heart blinks in confusion at that. "A... Fear spirit? It did seem a bit odd. But I don't know if it's a spirit. I have never been able to see most spirits, but I most definitely saw that thing."

She just made her friend into a target. "So, I was thinkin', the opposite of fear is laughter, right? So I tried to make her laugh and..." She looked uncomfortable. "I ain't funny."

She furrows her brow and frowns. She then shakes her head slightly. "No... I think this is something else. Though I'm not certain what..."
  215. [2014-06-11 17:24:35] * Bookwright has a flash of insight. "Hey, do you think maybe this is the thing that made Ditzy Doo lose the Element of Laughter?"

  217. [2014-06-11 17:27:58] * Noble_Heart taps her chin. "That's... NOt impossible, I suppose. But I'm not certain how it would." She frowns. "Did we ever get a pointer to where the element was lost, roughly?"
  218. [2014-06-11 17:29:53] * Bookwright shakes his head. "We got a location, kind of, where they found Ditzy Doo without the element. But that was all."
