- The Complete guide to PVP: How to Survive
- Hi, if your like me you wish to be a good PVPer. Well, I'm gonna teach you how. everywhere from the server selecting to the base building to the PVPing. So sit tight, grab a snack, and read on:
- This guide is broken down into chapters:
- 1. Server Selecting
- 2. Starting out
- 3. Base Building
- 3 1/2 Managing your base
- 4. Resource gathering
- 5. Farming and crafting
- 6. Car hunting
- 7. PVP Basics
- 8. Raiding
- 9. Pro tips
- 10. Final words
- (I'm also gonna discuss these topics in PEI, Washington, and Russia)
- CHAPTER 1: SERVER SELECTING
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Before you do any of the good stuff, your gonna need to pick a server. There are thousands of servers to choose from each with its own map, rules, players, and plugins. Here are some things to keep in mind:
- The map. PEI and Washington are good starter options as they're medium sized maps so, you can get around easily but still have enough space for your base to be hidden. Russia is good for advanced PVPers because its 4X bigger then the previous maps so getting around will be a pain. also there only one military base (well two, Zavod) so everyone will most likely be over there.
- The rules. Always follow server rules, that means no hacking, cheating, exploiting or breaking any of their rules.
- The player count: when you start out try to find a server with little to no players so you can easily find what you need without dying to campers. (if you want to YOLO it be my guest) Also, the more players the server has, the more likely players fortified locations that means they added barricades to prevent access to areas of wealth.
- The plugins: Some servers have certain plugins that make the game more enjoyable. Sometimes, its best to go vanilla, but since your probably new, try to find a server with a plugin to boost health of structures. (not sure what its called though)
- once you find a server that meets your criteria, go ahead and join.
- CHAPTER 2: STARTING OUT
- -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Once you start out your gonna have nothing (unless the server has kits) and your gonna want to move: quickly. Now, if no one is on the server, go ahead rush into town. If there are players on, go stealthy. Find these items in that order:
- Food/Water
- Weapon (preferably ranged)
- Bedroll (9 cloth)
- Medicine
- Tools (gas can, blowtorch, axe etc.)
- Once you found what you need, go find a spot for your base. Again I'll say, DON'T GO OUT IN THE OPEN when other players are on you'll most likely get shot.
- CHAPTER 3: BASE BUILDING
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- If you haven't found one already get an axe or such. Which one should you get here's a list:
- Saw: can be crafted with 2 metal sheets and the cheapest axe to get and its also used for making planks as well. Although its the least effective at tree chopping.
- Camp axe: This axe can be found in agricultural places like camps and can be found early on. Its not bad at tree chopping
- Fire axe: The fire axe is a little better then the camp axe and is found at fire stations. Its good at tree chopping
- Chainsaw: The chainsaw is by far the best axe in the game. It chops down trees extremely fast and also can be used as a mele weapon. It is found in agricultural places like farms.
- Once you found an axe you also need to consider the tree type to get the best structure health and crate storage. The order from worst to best is:
- Pine, Maple, Birch
- So, obviously pine is the best, but on some maps like PEI there are no pine trees so you'll have to go with the next best thing, Maple.
- Next is design and location. For the location I sugges building away from towns and miliitary bases. I know you'll get good loot, but chances are, players will spot you and raid you. Here are some locations I suggest:
- PEI: The outer waters near the edge of the map
- Why? Because players will have a hard time spotting you if you base is far enough
- Washington: The corners of the map
- Why? Barely anyone comes over there
- Russia: Near Keyrev mine
- Why? Lots of iron nearby to metalify your base quickly
- Once you picked a location its time to start building. Your base doesn't have to be the biggest yet but just a simple 3x3 box will work for now. Then add your bedroll and campfire. And make some storage crates and later on make some lockers (4 metal sheets, 4 metal bars, blowtorch)Don't forget to make a door with 2 metal sheets and a metal scrap.
- CHAPTER 3 1/2: MANAGING YOUR BASE
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- After you made your base you need to defend it and make it hard to raid. First, replace your wood with metal as soon as you can. It may seem daunting but it will protect you better. After that surround it with barbed wire fence.
- Don't forget to add lots and lots of doorways so raiders will have to waste more charges. Claim flags are golden. They make it so that enemies can't place anything down in the radius so they can't place ladders or charges unless destroyed. Try to think like the enemy and cover up weak spots and grow one expand your base.
- All of this will take a lot of time and resources but it will be hard for raiders to get in.
- CHAPTER 4: RESOURCE GATHERING
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Another important task is to gather resources. Here's a check list on what to find:
- Lots of scrap metal
- Lots of medicine
- Seeds
- Food/Water
- Military/ranger guns and ammo
- Military grade armour (military, spec ops, ghille)
- Medical items
- These are the main things you need. Remember to stay out of the open and go stealthy. Once you got these items, go bring them to your base and store them for now.
- CHAPTER 5: FARMING AND CRAFTING
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- By now your probably hungry/thirsty. What you need is a sustainable food/water source. That's right, I'm talking about farming. To start a farm, you need two things, a planter/plot and seeds. You can find planters at farms or you can craft them with fertilizer and planks. Or you can take it one step further and make a farm plot with a lot more planters and planks just like the Ines in unturned classic. Plant your seeds and wait a bit.
- Now for the next part of this chapter: crafting
- There some useful things you'll want to craft for your base/character. Here is a list I made on the things you'll want to craft.
- Charges: sticky grenade, explosives, wire
- Muffler: 2 cans, blowtorch
- Lockers: 4 metal sheets, 4 metal bars, blowtorch
- Farm plot: 7 planters, a lot of planks (not sure how much)
- Metal plates: metal sheets
- Sandbag: 5 cloth
- Barricades: 7 planks, 4 sticks or any type
- Cots: 9 cloth, 6 scraps, a flare of your choice (optional)
- Metal structures: 3/5 metal sheets
- Scope: binoculars, tape
- Library: 6 metal, 5 rope, blowtorch
- You see some of the tings can help you a lot; cots have more health than bedrolls, sandbags, plates, and barricades can by used for defensive cover, and libraries can be used to store extra experience.
- CHAPTER 6: CAR HUNTING
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Did you happen to find a car while out and about? Or maybe even a helicopter?
- Quickly get in and lock it by pressing O. To see if you locked it open up the car menu and see if it says "unlock" then its locked. If the car has a red border around it and says "locked" then you can't access it without a stealy wheely automobily.
- If you got a vehicle at your base make sure to craft tanktraps and put them on the front, back and sides of vehicles. They are crafted with 7 metal bars and a blowtorch. Now time to pimp your vehicle.
- First block off most of the car with sandbags/plates
- Add a campfire for light and cooking
- Add a vault to the top/back of the vehicle
- Optional: add a planter, flare torches, generator with cage lights etc.
- CHAPTER 7: PVP BASICS
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- OK, this is the longest chapter yet so sit tight.
- Oh, since this is a vast topic I'm going to categorize them into sub-chapters.
- INTERACTIONS WITH OTHER PLAYERS
- My first tip is to be friendly with other players until you get good gear. Try to understand what gear do they have. Don't make it obvious. Ask simple questions like "what are you doing". If they pose a threat, just don't get under the radar. Be friendly.
- CAMOUFLAGE
- Two words, ghille suit. Well there are many creative ways to camouflage. The first way is making your character the foliage colours and blending in to grass and trees while sniping. Another way is being a zombie. There are lots of video going in depth on it but basicly if you change your colour, face, and clothes and stand or prone in an area you can putt out a weapon and ambush them. Did you ever have any random weapon skins? Well if you have the "woodland" skin than that's camouflage for your weapon as well. If you don't have it you can buy it for $0.03. Yeah seriously.
- PVP TIPS
- The part you've all been waiting for, here are some PVP strategies.
- Always try to sneak from behind if you can. If gives you the upperhand. Also having a friend will help as you can have backup in case you need just make sure you treat him/her kindly. I bet you didn' know, the Ace is one of the best pistols in the game, yes a civilion pistol is one of the best in the game. Also, consider the weapon choice. For example you wouldn't use a sniper rifle in close range combat and you wouldn't use a pistol to snipe. Remember unturned is always updating and things will be changed/added. Don't worry you feedback will also be added
- CHAPTER 8: RAIDING
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Before you raid, make sure you have these things...
- Detonator
- Lots of charges
- Sticky grenades
- Binoculars
- Plates
- Rocket launcher
- Rockets
- A good offensive gun (assault rifle or carbine)
- Space in inventory
- A friend
- First you need to look for bases
- Look around the map and see if you can find one. Seattle, Folk military base and Summerside military base are good options, but be prepared for some tough bases.
- Or look for bases hidden from view because they probably don't get raided often.
- Once you find a base, observe the outside with binoculars. See any sentries, metal walls, players, and other obstructions. First you need to breach those obstacles before you can access the inside. For sentries throw a couple of sticky grenades or get behind them and take 'em out. For the walls, you can use a rocket launcher if you want to get in fast, but you can use charges/detonators to get the job done. Go stealthily in green or black clothing at night. Once inside, stay on guard because there might be hidden sentries, traps, and players. Also destroy any bedrolls and cots you find. Rinse and repeat until you get to the treasure room(some bases might not have extra security on their chests, in that case just loot the place). Inside the "treasure room" destroy with charges take some good loot and take your leave.
- CHAPTER 9: PRO TIPS
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- 1. To spot snipers hiding in grass, go to your options and remove all foliage. The sniper will be easy to spot without the grass covering them.
- 2. Go on PVP servers with a friend. I know I said this before, but this is important.
- 3. Make base plans in singleplayer until you get the hang of it. This will prevent loss of time and resources.
- 4. Don't make basses in populated areas as more people will likely see it and will want to raid it.
- 5. You can watch popular youtubers for inspiration like (but not limited to) melikebigboom, 2Rgames, and Nylex
- 6. YOU WILL GET RAIDED. No matter how mush you defend your base, you will get raided at some point
- 7. An oven is good as it can't produce light which can hinder camoflauge although, a generator is required
- 8. You can craft ghille netting to hide you base with foilage-like barricades. Usefull is between trees or in a dense forest area
- (More tips needed)
- CHAPTER 10: FINAL WORDS
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- I've been playing unturned for almost 10 months now. You don't have to take my advice, but these are from my experiences, my encounters, and my PVP actions. And all of you reading this post thank you for all your feedback(more is always appreciated).
- This is my very first post on steam so don't judge me to harshly. And with that, Thank you...
