  1. <CrsBenjamin> Well, I suppose its time. Thank you everyone for coming out today.
  2. <CrsBenjamin> We're here today to pay recognition to Wyn (aka Wynthyst) and all of her passion and dedication to our wikis and communites.
  3. <CrsBenjamin> Many of us worked with Wyn, either once or more often, but all of us have been touched by her somehow.
  4. <CrsBenjamin> I wanted to invite everyone here to, as a group, mourn her passing and to celebrate the amazing difference she made for all of us
  5. <CrsBenjamin> As I've said, if you have any remarks, please /msg me and we'll make sure you have a chance.
  6. <CrsBenjamin> I would also direct everyone to http://gamepedia.com/Wynthyst where we have created a permanent memorial page in her honor
  7. <CrsBenjamin> Please feel free to leave a message there if you wish

  9. <rn> Wyn joined the official Guild Wars Wiki very soon after its inception, and was a positive force on it ever since
  10. <rn> Her dedication to her guild, and her love for the game, were evident in every post she made
  11. <rn> She was friendly and helped many users, old and new, design personal user and character pages
  12. <rn> Noting her devotion and personality, the community voted to make her a sysop, so she was able to help the wiki police users and help fight the trolls
  13. <rn> She made friends (and enemies!) but her light never stopped shining on the wiki
  14. <rn> Even when she took the job at Curse, and moved away from Guild Wars and its wikis, we kept in touch, and she often showed me projects she was working on for new wikis
  15. <rn> It was clear her drive for wiki documentation ran deep, and I was lucky to have worked with her
  16. <rn> The internet is a slightly darker place without Wynthyst. She will be missed. From everyone at Guild Wars Wiki, thanks for everything you did, Wyn <3
  17. <CrsSmokie> Thanks rn, she always spoke very highly of her time on the GW wiki. When she talked about her "friends" she meant her guildmates and wikimates over there
  18.
  19. <Kizzycocoa> I knew wyn for several years, back when Curse took on the Minecraft Wiki. She was patient with everyone, especially with us. She helped moderate between the admins, and helped me whenever I needed.
  20. <Kizzycocoa> In that time, wyn and I talked a lot. Mostly over the wiki, but later on, more and more about what was going on in each other's lives. she was caring, and she always knew just what needed to be done, for the community, and to keep the peace overall.
  21. <Kizzycocoa> I regret I didn't talk to her more than I have. To know I will never be able to talk to her about all the mundane parts of life, or ask for help, is what will get me. I keep thinking to talk to her, catching myself mid-way to checking for her name.
  22. <Kizzycocoa> Wyn was invaluable, and the world has lost a very kind-hearted, patient and hard-working woman. If anyone could be considered "irreplacable" in a literal sense, then Wyn would be that person. I will miss her greatly. I only hope her passing was peaceful, and that she's in a better place.
  23. <CrsBenjamin> Thanks Kizzycocoa, I think I speak for all of us when I say we agree on all accounts.
  24.
  25. <Itouchmasterpro> Wynthyst was a wonderful person. She performed a titanic work at Curse. She was always attentive to the community.
  26. <Itouchmasterpro> I didn't know her in real life, but I knew she was great. She always trusted me.
  27. <Itouchmasterpro> I am very sad (and we all very sad) to know that she's no longer with us. I will always remember her.
  28. <Itouchmasterpro> Rest in peace. We miss you, really.
  29. <CrsBenjamin> Thanks Itouchmasterpro
  30.
  31. <sannse> I just want to share a happy memory/thought: last time I talked to Wyn we shared cat pictures, a conversation I figure marks us as true citizens of the Internet ;)
  32. <sannse> She was a good one, respected all over the wikiverse, and her kindness and goodness shone though every time I talked to her. Goodbye Wyn, from me and from all at Wikia
  33. <CrsBenjamin> Thank you sannse, Wyn always loved her cats. (Hers are being safely looked after, in case anyone might have wondered)
  34. <sannse> that's good to hear, thank you
  35.
  36. <ILeon> Wyn was a great person. She always helped me when I had a problem.
  37. <ILeon> You could actually talk about anything with her.
  38. <ILeon> She was a really lovely person, helpful, without her something is missing
  39. <ILeon> I've never met her in real person, but I'm still going to miss her. R.I.P. wyn
  40. <CrsBenjamin> Thanks ILeon
  41.
  42. <g0urra> I haven't talked much with Wyn since she wasn't as involved with Wowpedia as other wikis, but at the times I got to talk to her she was really approachable and easy to talk to
  43. <g0urra> But I appreciate her for all the work she's done for Wowpedia and for Gamepedia in general, and it feels sudden that she went away this soon
  44. <g0urra> I'll definitely miss her, and she went away from this world too soon. RIP Wyn
  45.
  46. <Telshin> Wyn was a colleague, but more importantly, she was my friend. Her passion and dedication will always be a lesson for me to strive harder for my own goals. I remember when I first joined Curse; one of the first projects I worked on was Minecraft Wiki. Wyn was my point of contact for all wiki related stuff in Curse. To say we started off on the wrong foot, that would be an understatement. I quickly learned how much she pride she had for her communities
  47. <Telshin> through various heated discussions over MSN and Skype. Despite all the bickering between the two of us, we both respected each other and grew to be friends. On some of my long nights working at the office, Wyn would keep me company by talking about various games she was playing, her cats, or projects she was working on outside Curse. To this day, I can still hear her unique laugh whenever she would tell a great joke. Those nights will never be forgotten.
  48. <Telshin> When we started the Hydra project, Wyn was on the ground floor helping me architect the tools needed for the wiki team. Her in-depth knowledge of wiki processes was invaluable to the development of the project. She fought every step of the way to ensure we did not lose our way or commit Seppuku with certain features. The pride she had in her life shows in Hydra, and it will continue to be the foundation of our platform.
  49. <Telshin> At our company retreat coming up this year, Wyn was going to meet both Wiki Platform teams for the first time. Even though she will not be here in person, she will be with us those days in celebration. Wyn was one hell of person that I miss and will miss each day.
  50.
  51. <CrsBenjamin> From Yuri_Boiko before they left: "I didn't know Wyn, but I saw a message about he[r] on Minecraft Wiki. I would like to say: Wyn, rest in peace. I believe [s]he was a good guy"
  52.
  53. <CrsBenjamin> From KillaWaffle127: "Wyn was a very important contributor who will be missed dearly. Rip. Wynthyst );"
  54.
  55. <kd3> I will always be grateful to Wyn for keeping me and the rest of the Wowpedia team apprised of upcoming changes on the Gamepedia platform. She was always there to lend a friendly ear. She ever fought for us and the rest of the wikis for the changes we wanted and against the changes we would rather not happen. Though I never met her in person, the news of her passing hit me far harder than I ever expected it would. Wyn, thank you so much. I miss you already, and I fervently hope you're at peace.
  56.
  57. <CrsSmokie> The fact that 60 people showed up to this memorial I think is a true testament to Wyn's reach and personality. She was just a wonderful human being.
  58. <CrsSmokie> Her passion for wikis and Gamepedia was unrivaled, and it showed. She would go to the end of the Earth for the communities, often staying up all hours of the night helping and assisting. Wikis weren't just a job for her, but something she truly enjoyed.
  59. <CrsSmokie> She was an amazing friend, and of course that is what I'll miss most of all. I'll miss getting into the office in the morning to find a bunch of cat pictures she found from the night before. I'll miss her full, loud laugh during our Tuesday platform meetings. I'll miss talking to her on the weekends for hours about anything and everything.
  60. <CrsSmokie> RIP Wyn, the impact you've left on me as a friend and colleague will stay with me the rest of my life.
  61.
  62. <Tanetris> rn already mentioned how much Wyn meant to the Guild Wars wiki community, and that's absolutely true. After meeting her on GWW and the associated IRC, I wound up joining her guild, and I cannot count the hours spent either running around GW with her or just standing around our guild hall, but they were good hours.
  63. <Tanetris> One of my fondest memories is when she took a bunch of us to learn Domain of Anguish, when none of us except her had really done it before. Most of it involved us shouting "DOOOOM" and running into things facefirst, and we laughed and we alternated between doing terribly and being awesome, and we eventually beat the thing.
  64. <Tanetris> Those of us who wound up moving to GW2 carry on that "DOOOOM" spirit when we're tackling 'serious' content nonseriously, so while we'll miss her, in that sense she'll still be playing with us for a long time to come.
  65.
  66. <FamiliarGuy> I never really knew Wyn, but from what I've heard, she was a amazing person.
  67. <FamiliarGuy> From all the things I heard, she was a kind hearted, joyful woman. Keeping joy and making others happy for hours in IRC, makes me wish I got to know her more and that I joined this community sooner.
  68. <FamiliarGuy> All I wish is she stays save, where ever she is, and she will always remain in a dear spot in our hearts. Rest in peace Wyn. ;)
  69.
  70. <z3ther> Working with Wyn was an incredible experience, something I won't forget. When I first started she taught me so much about wikis, as well as just talking about what was going on in her life here and there. We had fun conversations laughing about the silly things that people were talking about or things that were going on in the games that we were playing. I'll mostly miss her laugh, and being loud and boisterous in conversations.
  71. <z3ther> Thanks wyn, for being a friend and an amazing coworker. May you rest in peace.
  72.
  73. <Alianin> I was able to work with Wyn across several wikis. We didn't always see eye to eye, but she was a great resource to have. There are so many little things (and big ones) that she did to help the communities and administrators. She was dedicated, hard working and passionate and will be missed.
  74.
  75. <CrsBenjamin> Well, thank you very much everyone for coming today. I think we all enjoyed hearing your words and memories.
  76. <CrsSmokie> Thanks everyone. RIP Wyn
  77. <CrsBenjamin> I am going to return the channel to normal in a moment, however, I ask that everyone please take a moment of silence in Wyn's honor, both here in IRC and at home in the real world.
  78. <CrsBenjamin> Thank you all, and take care.
