FEMALE YELLOW RANGER SIDES - AVA
EXT. PARKING LOT - DAY
Silas stands outside looking maliciously toward an ambulance.
AT THE AMBULANCE, AVA (Ranger) stands at the back of the vehicle.
A WOMAN PARAMEDIC starts to come out the van’s open rear doors.

AVA
No!

AVA pushes the Paramedic back inside and moves in behind her. Inside the Ambulance a YOUNG BOY 		PATIENT lies on a gurney. AVA looks to her and it’s clear she won’t let her pass.

AVA
You’re staying here.

PARAMEDIC
What are you doing? People’s lives come before the stones.

AVA
That’s not it! You’re a paramedic,
right? You can’t go out there.
(looking to the kid)
You have to do your job and make
sure he makes it safely to the
hospital.

A darkness comes over AVA.

AVA
I... couldn’t do anything. Last
year my little sister collapsed...
I raced her to the doctor but on
the way she took a turn for the
worse. I lost her.

PARAMEDIC
I’m sorry.

AVA
I didn’t know what I was doing. If
someone like you had been there she
might have made it.
(re: the sick boy)
Please. Stay with him.

PARAMEDIC
But Silas won’t let us pass.

AVA
I’ll handle him.

PARAMEDIC
But how?

AVA
I’ll act as a decoy.
(suddenly inspired)
That’s it! I’ll go out there dressed as you!
That’ll give the ambulance time to go.

PARAMEDIC
That’s too risky. What if he
notices right away?

AVA
Then I’ll fight him. I’m not
afraid.

AVA puts her hand on the sick boy’s hand.

AVA
I have to do this. I won’t let what
happened to my sister happen to
this kid.
