  1. http://imgur.com/y41ldPe - I ran across this picture on /mlp/ and Nimh said he wanted a good writefag to write something for him. I dunno about the good part... but here is what I wrote for him. Sorry I couldn't post it in time before the thread 404'ed.
  2. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  3. >It was a partially cloudy day in Equestria.
  4. >The sun shined brightly in your eyes as you did your morning trot.
  5. >Gotta keep it up.
  6. >Gotta keep the pace.
  7. >A nice long trot was just your little way of staying in shape and killing time every day.
  8. >Sometimes, you even went out in the rain.
  9. >The feel of the water on your skin was so invigorating and made you feel happy to be alive.
  10. >As you look to the sky, you see that one of the clouds overhead seems to be turning darker.
  11. >Stopping, you raise your head to the sky.
  12. >You prepare yourself for the feeling of the cool crisp liquid to land on your hot and sweaty exterior.
  13. >The drip comes, but it's warm.
  14. >Bringing your hoof to the drip, it's red and sticky.
  15. >That's when you hear it.
  16. >Not the sound of thunder.
  17. >If it were thunder, you would head home out of impluse.
  18. >You heard the screams.
  19. >The darkness above you were shadows of ponies falling from the sky.
  20. >Nearly as if every pegasus forgot how to fly at once.
  21. >"Help me!"
  22. >"I don't wanna die!"
  23. >"Mommy! Where are you!?!"
  24. >You stand frozen to the spot as the bodies fly to the ground.
  25. >One reaches it's final destination with a sickening crunch.
  26. >Another follows after it, letting out a painful shriek.
  27. >Jumping to the side, you narrowly avoid one from falling on top of you.
  28. >Your eyes connect and all you see is pain.
  29. >Run.
  30. >Another crunch.
  31. >Run!
  32. >"Hold tight to me son. Daddy loves you."
  33. >RUN!
  34. >At full speed you run away from the bloodshed.
  35. >You look back, but you never should have looked back.
  36. >Just like how you never should have stopped to look up.
  37. >The grass was covered in red-stained technicolor corpses.
  38. >Some of which still moved, but most remained motionless.
  39. >Sometimes you still wake up at night, hearing the screaming of all the ponies that fell from the sky.
  40. >You still remember the screams of the fallen angels.
  41.
  42. >You wake up in the middle of the night.
  43. >The screams again.
  44. >How could this just happen out of the blue?
  45. >You watched the newspapers for days, but there wasn't any information on thousands of pegasi just falling to their demise.
  46. >There had to be some explanation.
  47. >Something that was being covered up.
  48. >You look to your alarm clock.
  49. >3 AM.
  50. >At least you got more sleep tonight than the last few days.
  51. >Getting out of bed, you begin to devise your plan.
  52. >There has to be someone, somewhere up in Cloudsdale that knows what happened.
  53. >Every one of those pegasi had names and families.
  54. >There has to be somepony who will talk.
  55. >Somepony that will set your troubled mind at ease.
  56. >Renting a balloon to Cloudsdale wouldn't be cheap, but you will use your savings to do it.
  57. >It's a small price to pay to sleep again and to ease your troubled mind.
  58. >You get out a saddle bag for your trip.
  59. "Better get packed."
  60.
  61. >Once the sun is up you are already on your way to the hot-air balloon stand.
  62. "One to Cloudsdale please. Round trip."
  63. >"That's awful expensive sir... are y-"
  64. >You toss a bag of bits onto the counter.
  65. >"Thank you for flying with us today. Right this way."
  66.
  67. >Being up in the sky is a new relaxing feeling to you as an earth pony.
  68. >Cloudsdale floats off in the distance, just out of reach.
  69. >They made arrangements for you to be able to walk on the clouds while you stay in Cloudsdale, as well as showed you to where a decent hotel is using a map.
  70. >Examining the map, you mark a few places that you may want to check out.
  71. >The police station and the Cloudsdale hospital were definite targets, but you had trouble thinking of other places to check out.
  72. >It was just so hard to think... when you feel so... tired.
  73.
  74. >Your eyes shoot open and feel the wind rush past your mane.
  75. >Thrashing violently against the planet's natural pull, you try desperately to free yourself from it's clutches.
  76. >The ground approaches nearer and nearer.
  77.
  78. >You wake up.
  79. >"Welcome to Cloudsdale!"
  80.
  81. -------------------------------------
  82.
  83. >"Here you go sir."
  84. >The pilot of the balloon hands you a small bottle of pills.
  85. >"If you take one of these every morning, you should be able to walk on the clouds. Be careful. They are addictive if you take too many."
  86. "Thanks. I'll be careful."
  87. >Taking one pill out from the bottle, you take one before you step onto the clouds.
  88. >As you press down, you feel the cloud slowly give away under you.
  89. >You panic and put all of your weight onto that hoof.
  90. >The clouds hold firm, and welcome your hoof like a soft mattress.
  91. "Huh. Alright."
  92. >Pulling out your map, you trace your path to the hospital.
  93. >If all of the pegasi were in the hospital, it would set your troubled mind at ease.
  94. >You are hardily noticed by the other happy, busy pegasi that are going about their business as usual.
  95. >As if nothing had ever happened.
  96. >As if thousands of them just hadn't simultaneously fell from the sky less than a week ago.
  97. >Then again, they didn't see their faces.
  98. >They didn't hear their screams.
  99. >You nearly walk by the Cloudsdale Hospital from being deep in thought.
  100. >Stepping through the double doors, you are immediately welcomed by a nurse pony.
  101. >"Good Morning! Can I help you find a room?"
  102. >The aquamarine pegasus wears the wide smile of someone who loves their job.
  103. "No thanks... I think I know where I'm going."
  104. >Her enthusiasm unfaltering, she nods to you.
  105. >"Okay! Well if you need any help, don't be shy."
  106. >You head over to the critical recovery section.
  107. >On that day, it seems like most of the ponies died.
  108. >If they didn't die, they had to be in critical condition.
  109. >You push through another set of doors and peek into the rooms.
  110. >Cancer.
  111. >Surgery recovery.
  112. >Another surgery.
  113. >Weird.
  114. >Anypony from that day would need to be in a full body cast at least.
  115. >"Excuse me sir, can I help you find somepony?"
  116. >A doctor steps out of a room with a small clipboard.
  117. "Uh... yeah. I had a friend come in from a few days ago. He was in the big accident."
  118. >The doctor looks at you curiously.
  119. >"Big... accident?"
  120. "Yeah. I think it mighta been him and a bunch of friends. I don't know. I heard it was really serious though."
  121. >He makes his way around his desk.
  122. >"I'm afraid we must not of had any patients from a serious accident. The hospital has been slow the last few days."
  123. >That's no help at all.
  124. >No entries to the only hospital in Cloudsdale.
  125. >"What was his name? We do carry records on almost every pegasus in Equestria here. Maybe I can find out where he was placed?"
  126. >Oh no!
  127. >You can't possibly make up a name.
  128. "No... that's fine. I'm sure everything will be alright. I was just worried. Thats all! Thanks anyway."
  129. >Slowly you make your way out of the hospital as the doctor picks up his desk phone.
  130. >He eyes you closely all the way out of the building.
  131. >"Hello? Yes. I think I have someone who knows."
  132.
  133. >Well that was fruitless.
  134. >Next stop is the police station.
  135. >They would have to know if a major accident occurred.
  136. >Any sign of it existing was all you needed at this point.
  137. >To prove to yourself that you weren't going crazy.
  138. >You check your map again.
  139. >The police station should only be a few blocks away.
  140. >As you walk through Cloudsdale you can't help but marvel at the architecture.
  141. >How pegasi managed to put buildings on clouds simply blows your mind.
  142. >As you round a turn, you can't help but feel like you are being watched.
  143. >Behind you, you see a pegasus in a hoodie with the hood up, following you.
  144. >Another one watches you from accross the street.
  145. >Oh shit.
  146. >This can't be good.
  147. >You quicken your pace to a trot and so does your follower.
  148. >The stallion from across the street begins to follow you as well.
  149. >You can't be serious.
  150. >The ground under your feet feels like it's shaking.
  151. >Or maybe it's just you.
  152. >That's it!
  153. >You break into a full speed gallop towards the police station.
  154. >"Hey!"
  155. >The stallions chase after you with all their might.
  156. >Ducking through the alley, you try to improvise a shortcut to the police station.
  157. >One follows you while one tries to head you off.
  158. >Their mistake is underestimating the speed of an earth pony on hoof.
  159. >Putting every bit of energy you have into your hooves, you sprint out of the alley.
  160. >The police station is right there in front of you.
  161. >"Stop!"
  162. >You keep running, terrified for your life.
  163. >Just a few feet from the doors now.
  164. >Jump up the stairs two at a time.
  165. >Rip open the front door.
  166. >"We just want to hel-"
  167. >You slam the door behind you.
  168. "Officer! There are these men chasing me."
  169. >One of the pegasus in uniform by the window watches closely.
  170. >"It's true sarge. I see em outside."
  171. >Quickly you try to catch your breath.
  172. >You need to get back running again.
  173. >Another uniformed cop approaches you.
  174. >"Alright son, come with me."
  175. >He leads you into a white room with solid walls, but the ground is made of clouds.
  176. >"Just stay here for a little while. Now then. Any idea why they were chasing you?"
  177. >Still gasping for breath, you try to compose yourself.
  178. "No... No idea."
  179. >The officer rubs his beard for a moment.
  180. >"Well that's strange. We will give them a talk and let you go when they leave. Where you staying traveler?"
  181. "I'm not sure. Probably some hotel."
  182. >"Alrighty."
  183. >He slowly makes his way out the door.
  184. "Oh! Sir?"
  185. >The policepony turns to you one more time.
  186. "Did... uh. Did any pegasus go missing in the last few days? I had a bunch of my friends go missing. I came to town to try and find them."
  187. >"Hmmm. When was the last time you saw them?"
  188. "Uh... somewhere outside Ponyville."
  189. >His eyes go wide and he pulls out his gun on you.
  190. "Woah! Woah! I'm unarmed."
  191. >"Nopony can know. It's the princess's orders son."
  192. "The princess!?!"
  193. >"Give me your pills."
  194. "How long are you going to keep me here?"
  195. >He cocks his gun.
  196. "OKAY! OKAY!"
  197. >You toss your bag over to him. and he throws it out of the room.
  198. >"I'm sorry."
  199. >He closes the door and you hear a click from behind it.
  200. >No.
  201. >He didn't.
  202. >You gallop to the door and try to rip it open.
  203. >It's locked.
  204. >You push on it as hard as you can.
  205. >It won't budge.
  206. >Anger fills your veins.
  207. >You weren't crazy.
  208. >You were onto something.
  209. >In a fit of rage you buck at the door.
  210. >Still, it won't relent.
  211. >You collapse to the cloud floor in a sobbing mess.
  212. >This is it.
  213. >This is how your life ends.
  214. >Waiting for the effects of the drug to wear off so you can fall from the sky to your doom.
  215. >Maybe it would be all be over sooner if you went to sleep.
  216. >You were so tired.
  217. >Maybe now... knowing that you weren't crazy, you could rest.
  218. >Closing your eyes, you see the faces of the young children that were falling to their demise.
  219. >Their parents holding them tightly, telling them that it will all be over soon.
  220. >That's all you have to tell yourself.
  221. >It will all be over soon.
  222. >It's all just a dream.
  223. >A falling dream.
