They provide your internet, and are therefore critical in today's society. Yet they seem more than happy to screw you over at a moment's notice. From Comcast to AT&T to Verizon, ISPs have done many horrible things. All of these are easy to talk about, but I'll pick on Comcast. The list of grievances against them is long, from data caps that serve no purpose other than profits, to injection of copyright notices into webpages, to stupidly high prices, Comcast is regarded as the worst ISP around. In areas with competition they are tolerable, in areas without they are merciless, seeking to squeeze every dime out of their customers, only to strip search them for pocket change. The reason they can do all this is because they have a monopoly, in many cases explicitly allowed by a local government.
