  1. >"Illusion, deception, fear..."
  2. >He pauses, before uttering a single, deep laugh.
  3. >"...Death."
  4. >You, Fluttershy, wince a little at the word.
  5. >"These are only a few of the powers you could hold, my little p0ny..."
  6. >You feel a force all around you, beckoning to seep inside you.
  7. >You've felt it since arriving, but only now is it truly settling with you.
  8. >"Simply open your heart to me... just a little more..."
  9. >You keep your spot on the cave floor, sitting.
  10. B-But sir--
  11. >"Ah ah, Fluttershy..."
  12. >You catch your words.
  13. ...L-Lord... my Lord... I am opening my heart... really...
  14. >You think you are, anyway...
  15. >Are you hesitating?
  16. >You can feel something with you, that's for sure...
  17. >But... is it really working?
  18. >Your Lord rumbles the cave with a thoughtful growl.
  19. >Jets of thick black nasal smoke shoot out into the twilight air.
  20. >"If I had to make a wager... I'd say your Elemental Status is... slowing down the process... a shield of sorts."
  21. >You look to the ground solemnly.
  22. >Your aura of Kindness is slowly being broken down... eaten away... replaced...
  23. >"No matter... it will take over all in due time... just open yourself to me, dear Fluttershy, and the power can be yours..."
  24. >You stand to your hooves.
  25. >You do want the power...
  26. >You want your Lord's help...
  27. >He could be yours...
  28. Do...
  29. >You begin, worried about upsetting him.
  30. D-Do you think... I could take Anonymous for myself...?
  31. >Your Lord laughs once more.
  32. >The cave softly illuminating green from his breath.
  33. >"So ambitious... looking directly to the final goal..."
  34. >You scrape the cave floor with your hoof.
  35. >"You remind me somewhat of an old... student of mine. A unicorn. My, this must have been over a millennia ago... ambitions to rule a perfect Kingdom with the power of darkness..."
  36. >There is a pause.
  37. >"...I don't believe it worked out completely in his favor. Do you see?"
  38. >You can feel the sting he sent your way.
  39. >"No, Fluttershy. Your power is weak. Your Kindness makes things even more difficult. The boy is strong willed. Even with further strength, taking him on may be hard for yourself."
  40. >...Even longer to take Anonymous...
  41. >You press your hoof into the rock angrily.
  42. >Stupid Kindness... it hasn't gotten you anywhere in life.
  43. >You're still alone, by yourself, living outside the town.
  44. >You can feel a black aura around yourself.
  45. >Your friends all think you're some cowardly pushover...
  46. >And now, this Kindness that you are supposedly so blessed by is blocking you even from getting your Anonymous...
  47. >"Ah..."
  48. >It isn't fair. Why does life have to be this way?
  49. >...No. It doesn't have to.
  50. >With your Lord's help... you'll change.
  51. >You'll prove you're no pushover.
  52. >You'll take things for yourself.
  53. >You'll take Anonymous for yourself.
  54. >He'll be YOURS.
  55. >...
  56. >You lift up your hoof from the rock.
  57. >A small crack sits in its place.
  58. >You take a breath, and place it back down, pretending it didn't happen.
  59. >Your Lord sees otherwise.
  60. >"My dear, my dear..."
  61. >You look slowly up to the black abyss where he rests.
  62. >"...I see great things in your future..."
  63. >...
  64. >"Now, you may not be able to take the human boy now, but why not... refine your newfound self?"
  65. >You stare, unaware completely of what he means.
  66. >"You have a vendetta against a certain unicorn, do you not?"
  67. >...
  68. >Rarity...
  69. >He laughs once more.
  70. >"I can feel your hatred, my dear... it's beautiful."
  71. >You squint your eyes in anger.
  72. >She wants Anonymous all for herself...
  73. >...She can't have him.
  74. >"...My little p0ny... go on. You have my blessing."
  75.
  76. >One, two, three, four...
  77. >Four skips.
  78. >"Sweet. That's a record for me," Shining Armor says with a smile.
  79. >You laugh, then look over to the grassy patch beside you.
  80. >A stone rests on a few blades.
  81. >You furl your brow, then open your hand toward it, concentrating.
  82. >You mutter under your breath.
  83. >The stone shimmers, then picks itself up a little bit.
  84. >Just ever so little...
  85. >"What are you doing, buddy?"
  86. >It drops.
  87. N-Nothing...
  88. >You say.
  89. >Then, with a smirk, you reach over, gripping the rock, feeling the velvety grass between your fingers.
  90. Just beating your record, Sir.
  91. >You side-arm flick the stone toward the lake.
  92. >One, two, three, four...
  93. >The stone sinks into the water, barely visible from the glare of the setting sun.
  94. >"...Close," Shining Armor taunts with a smile.
  95. >You return his smile, then turn to look at the beautiful setting Equestrian sun.
  96. >The warm summer air wraps and comforts you both as you sit in silence, enjoying the landscape in front of you.
  97. >"...So how are you liking it?" Shining Armor says, finally breaking the soothing quiet.
  98. >You continue to stare off.
  99. It's... different for sure.
  100. >Shining Armor laughs.
  101. >"A change of pace from that old geezer, huh?"
  102. >You smile just a little bit.
  103. Master Spellweave is a teacher. An instructor.
  104. >The glistening lake snags your attention quickly.
  105. Twilight is more like...
  106. >"...A friend?"
  107. >You turn to him.
  108. >He's smiling.
  109. >It's... contagious.
  110. ...Exactly, yes. Twilight is a friend. It's an odd experience to learn from a friend. I don't think I've ever experienced it before.
  111. >A hoof connects hard to your shoulder.
  112. Ow! What--
  113. >"Thanks, jackass," Shining Armor says sarcastically.
  114. >You rub your shoulder and laugh.
  115. I mean with magic, Sir.
  116. >"I know what you meant. I just like hittin' ya."
  117. >You both share another laugh.
  118. >Then sigh happily.
  119. >"Don't give her any trouble, alright?"
  120. >You shake your head.
  121. Never.
  122. >He smiles.
  123. >"Good. Now..."
  124. >Shining Armor rises to his hooves.
  125. >"I got evening plans with the Mrs."
  126. >He gives you a quick wink.
  127. >You groan and roll your eyes.
  128. >"Keep up the good work, Anonymous, and don't neglect that sword training."
  129. You know I won't, Sir.
  130. >You say with a smile.
  131. >"Alright, catch you later."
  132. >And with that, Shining Armor teleports off.
  133. >You, however, opt to stay seated on the soft grass for just a moment more, appreciating the beauty this town has to offer.
  134.
  135. Ventus!
  136. >You yell, pushing your hand toward the incoming tag spell.
  137. >A burst of air juts from your hand, connecting with the projectile and redirecting it away from you.
  138. >It splats against the wall, painting it a random color.
  139. >Twilight fires another one.
  140. Ventus!
  141. >You do it once more, with your other hand, directing it the other side.
  142. Ventus!
  143. Ventus!
  144. >It's hard to keep up, but you continuously counter the spells.
  145. >"Don't just deflect them!" Twilight yells in between shots, "We didn't just study one Class Two! Block them too!"
  146. Ventus!
  147. >You yell once more, deflecting the final one.
  148. >Okay, fine.
  149. >Time to switch it up.
  150. >The next tag spell comes careening at you.
  151. >You wait for it to almost hit, then you swipe your hand across your body.
  152. Contego!
  153. >A light, transparent purple wall quickly forms, taking the force of the tag spell, before it quickly disappears.
  154. >Class Two spells are mostly defensive, as it turns out.
  155. >"Good timing!" She yells. "Keep it up!"
  156. >She fires off a few more.
  157. Ventus!
  158. Contego!
  159. Contego!
  160. Ventus!
  161. Ventego!
  162. >*Splat*
  163. >You pause, then lower your arm.
  164. >You look down to your tunic.
  165. >Splashed with yellow.
  166. >Twilight giggles.
  167. >"This is why you should move past word casts, you won't tie up your tongue!"
  168. >You groan.
  169. Won't happen again, Twilight, I ensure it. Please, continue.
  170. >She giggles again, then nods.
  171. > More tag spells come your way.
  172. >You put up more shield spells, blocking them as they arrive.
  173. >It requires pretty precise timing, as the shield only lasts for about a second.
  174. >Unless you're going to go with--
  175. >"Anon, I want you to hold against this one!"
  176. >You look up surprised.
  177. >Really?
  178. >You just barely got a grasp on the basic Class Twos!
  179. >"I think you can manage! Are you ready?!"
  180. >You hesitate, then nod.
  181. Yes, Twilight!
  182. >"Okay!"
  183. >She charges up quickly, then fires a tag beam.
  184. >You focus, flex your arm, then swipe it across your body.
  185. Contego Maximus!
  186. >The purple wall reappears, a darker color, and holds firm as you focus.
  187. >The beam collides with the wall, applying a vast amount of pressure.
  188. >You flex your arm and hold, channeling your magic through it into the shield in front of you.
  189. >The beam persists.
  190. >You tighten your focus, channel your magic, and try your best.
  191. >...But the spell isn't fully in your grasp yet.
  192. >The magical wall shatters, and the beam pelts your chest, launching you back a few feet and onto the ground.
  193. >Twilight gasps, then runs to your aid.
  194. >You sit up from the ground and rub your head a bit, your chest painted green.
  195. >"Oh, Anon, I'm sorry!" she calls as she approaches your side.
  196. >You laugh as you stand up on your feet.
  197. Don't worry, Twilight, I'm fine.
  198. >She looks with concern, then flashes an awkward smile.
  199. >"You were doing so well, I thought you could handle it..."
  200. >You smile, then pat her head.
  201. Pushing limits is always a good training strategy. I'm glad we tried it.
  202. >She still looks regretful, but seems to be lightening up a little.
  203. >You look down to your tunic.
  204. Perhaps we could... clean my garments a little?
  205. >Twilight looks up with surprise, then laughs a little.
  206. >"Oh, sorry Anon..."
  207. >She charges a spell, lifting the green from your chest.
  208. >Then yellow.
  209. >Then the several other colors staining it from the many failed defensive spell casts.
  210. >Until your armored tunic is as pristine as the day it was made.
  211. >"Perfect."
  212. >You smile.
  213. >"That's enough for today, don't you think?" Twilight asks as she ascends the stairs.
  214. >You follow.
  215. If you insist.
  216. >She laughs. "Be sure to do those meditation exercises when you can to get your magic reserves back up."
  217. Of course, Twilight.
  218. >She smiles at you once more, then climbs the final stair.
  219. >You both ascend to the main area of the library.
  220. >You stretch out your back, basking in the sunlight, as Twilight steps into the kitchen.
  221. >"Oh darn..." she mutters.
  222. >You step to the kitchen and poke your head in.
  223. What is it?
  224. >She closes the cupboard.
  225. >"Oh, nothing important, I need a few things from the market. I'll send Spike when he gets back."
  226. >You laugh.
  227. Nonsense, Twilight. I'd be happy to go out and get them for you.
  228. >She looks at you a bit puzzled.
  229. >"Are you sure? Even after all that training?"
  230. >You nod.
  231. It's not a problem at all. I'd love to stretch my legs and get some sunlight.
  232. >A smile graces her face.
  233. >"Thank you, Anon."
  234. >After getting the list and receiving a small sack of bits, you depart outside into the late morning sun.
  235. >You cross the square and head in the general direction of the market.
  236. >P0nies murmur and wave, as usual.
  237. >The mares admire from a distance.
  238. >You shake your head at the thought and keep walking.
  239. >As you depart past the fountain, you see a purple maned, white unicorn heading in the other direction.
  240. Ah.
  241. >You've been meaning to see how she was doing.
  242. >She was quite intoxicated that night.
  243. >You're also just a tad... curious. If she even remembers.
  244. >You hope not.
  245. >And if she does, perhaps she could clear her conscience...
  246. >...
  247. >Implying she feels guilty.
  248. >...That thought never crossed your mind.
  249. >...Shake it off, Anonymous.
  250. >She's a lady... right?
  251. Miss Rarity!
  252. >You call, waving her down.
  253. >Her head jerks toward you.
  254. >Her pupils shrink.
  255. >She turns away and picks up her pace.
  256. >What...?
  257. Miss Rarity!
  258. >You call again, striding out a long speed walk until you reach her.
  259. Miss Rarity,
  260. >You say for the final time.
  261. >She stops and turns her head toward you.
  262. >She looks... incredibly nervous.
  263. >"Oh, h-hello Anonymous! Funny seeing you here..."
  264. >She forces a smile.
  265. >You raise an eyebrow at her.
  266. Miss Rarity... what's wrong?
  267. >She recoils a bit.
  268. >"N-Nothing's wrong! Just... very busy and all!"
  269. >What is she...?
  270. Well, I just wanted to make sure everything was alright with you after... the other night's events...
  271. >Her pupils shrink.
  272. >"Oh, oh yes! Drank a little too much! It will never happen again! I swear on it, Anonymous!"
  273. >She looks over toward the forest, then back in the direction of her shop.
  274. >"Listen Darling, I really must be getting back to my work. Ta-ta, hopefully see you soon!"
  275. >She turns around and starts galloping off.
  276. Wait, Miss!
  277. >...But she's already gone.
  278. >You stand in the center of the square, baffled.
  279. >...What happened to her...?
  280. >...
  281. ****Earlier****
  282. >You are Fluttershy
  283. >And you are on a mission.
  284. >You feel completely revitalized, renewed, reborn.
  285. >It's like when Iron Will gave you assertiveness lessons, only...
  286. >...More tantalizing.
  287. >The sun slowly sets as you finally arrive in P0nyville proper.
  288. >Your hoofsteps clop and echo through the town.
  289. >Most p0nies are inside by now.
  290. >The few that are outside don't take much notice of you.
  291. >You continue walking, until you finally reach Rarity's shop.
  292. >Carousel Boutique
  293. >You bang on the door with your hoof, anxious to have your discussion with her.
  294. >After a moment, the unicorn answers the door.
  295. >She locks eyes with you, then smiles.
  296. >But the smile only lasts for a second.
  297. >It quickly falls from her face, like she knows something is off.
  298. >Like she can... feel it.
  299. >But not pinpoint it.
  300. >...Perfect.
  301. >"Hello, Fluttershy," she greets. "What do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"
  302. I just want to talk.
  303. >You say with a grin.
  304. >A rather... unsettling grin.
  305. >Rarity looks at you for a moment, then glances outside.
  306. >She looks back to you. "A... little late, don't you think, Darling?"
  307. >You shake your head.
  308. No, this can't wait.
  309. >There's a tense pause.
  310. >...Then, Rarity smiles nervously.
  311. >"Okay, dear... come on in."
  312. >You smile and nod, then step your way into the shop.
  313. >The bell jingles as the door closes, and you plant yourself down on a nearby couch.
  314. >Rarity approaches you, preferring to stand.
  315. >"So, um... what's this about, Fluttershy?"
  316. >You don't respond.
  317. >You only stay seated at the couch, smiling eerily at her.
  318. >It is silent once more.
  319. >A bead of sweat falls from Rarity's forehead.
  320. >She can feel it.
  321. >Unsettling, subtle...
  322. Rarity...
  323. >You finally say.
  324. >Your rather abrupt voice causes her to jump a little.
  325. I want to talk about Anonymous.
  326. >Her eyes widen just a bit, and she grins awkwardly.
  327. >"S-Sure dear... what about him?"
  328. >You look at your hoof, examining it casually.
  329. ...You've mentioned that any mare would be lucky to have him...
  330. >She nods slowly.
  331. ...Do you fancy yourself in the running to win him over?
  332. >She opens her mouth a little bit, as if to speak, then closes it again.
  333. >She thinks.
  334. >"W-Well, I'm not sure... I think he's... a rather dashing gentlecolt, and perhaps... well, if he'd WANT to..."
  335. No.
  336. >You cut her off.
  337. Wrong answer. Your answer is no.
  338. >She looks at you, absolutely perplexed.
  339. >Then grows a stern look on her face.
  340. >"Fluttershy, what is this about? Why are you acting like this?"
  341. >You smile again.
  342. Like what, Rarity?
  343. >"Like... like some mob boss or something! Whomever I choose to pursue should be none of your business! Stop trying to... to intimidate me!"
  344. >With one swift motion, you throw your head back, open your mouth, and laugh heavily.
  345. >It wipes the stern look right from Rarity's face.
  346. >It's enough to make her take a few steps back.
  347. >She now carries a worried look.
  348. >"Why are you doing this...?" she says meekly.
  349. >You stop your laugh, still smiling, and get up off the couch.
  350. >You walk over to Rarity and throw a hoof over her shoulder.
  351. >She recoils just a little bit.
  352. >You look deep into her eyes.
  353. >Your own swimming with hints of eerie, ominous darkness.
  354. >Her lower lip quivers.
  355. >You're really under her skin.
  356. Rarity.
  357. >She nods slowly.
  358. Anonymous is mine. Do you understand that?
  359. >"I... what... why do you--"
  360. Rarity.
  361. >She silences herself.
  362. >You laugh at her obedience.
  363. Listen to me. He's mine.
  364. >She nods slowly, mouth agape, eyes flaring with worry and fear.
  365. I don't want you telling anyp0ny about this. At all. Stay silent, stay away from him, and things will be a-okay between us. Got it?
  366. >She nods slowly.
  367. Good.
  368. >In a flash, you wipe the look from your face.
  369. >Your eyes revert to their normal, shy, teal orbs, and you smile nervously.
  370. O-Okay then... have a good night Rarity...
  371. >You say softly and meekly, walking toward the door.
  372. >Without looking back, you open her door, step on out, and close it.
  373. >You start walking back to your cottage.
  374. >Your smile slowly returns as you do, crawling up from ear to ear.
  375. >Your eyes flare unsettlingly.
  376. >What a feeling...
  377.
