  12. when on the home page, the "similar to Dance Gavin Dance" (which is what sparked that tweet) shows bands like Eyes Set To Kill, Ice Nine Kills, Akissforjersey, etc. none of whom I believe relate to Dance Gavin Dance. These don't show up on the band's page as related artists, but I'd say it's not great when it shows up featured on the home page. Stolas and Sianvar are both bands on Will Swan's Blue Swan Records; Will Swan is the guitarist for Dance Gavin Dance and a big reason for their sound, and he also plays and writes for Sianvar, so that's an obvious relation.

  14. The bands listed from Rise Records are fine; they're not all great recommendations, but Rise has a fairly homogeneous catalogue for the most part. I'd say Circa Survive and Saosin match well enough, while bands like Memphis May Fire and Before Their Eyes are weaker matches. Dance Gavin Dance's distinct contrasting guitar lines coupled with often call and answer vocals between the clean singer (of whom they have had three: Tilian Pearson (Tides of Man), Johnny Craig (Emarosa, Slaves), and Kurt Travis (A Lot Like Birds)) and the screamer (Jon Mess, save for the Happiness album where Will Swan did the screams) and math/progressive rock and metal influence in time signatures, keys, and modulations really lend toward the unique sound they've built for themselves within the post-hardcore genre.

  16. They're incredibly unique, so I'm not totally surprised when I don't agree with related artists, but it's easy to see when the algorithm that The Echo Nest or Rovi uses comes up short in the respect, simply grabbing a remotely related hardcore or metalcore band to fill some spots on the list.

  19. sorry for the long winded explanation, but they're my favorite band so it means a lot to me.
